My first visit to Beaufort and so glad I ended up here during my visit! The atmosphere is great and comfortable, like I was visiting an old friend. I expected typical bar food but was surprised with how good the food was. Drinks were great and people there were so awesome and entertaining with their travel stories. I cannot recommend this place enough and will definitely was making a trip back to Beaufort just to visit Hemingway's. A nice place to be if you can find it. Perfect motto for this place. When you pull up and can't locate this place, park or drive around the right side of the building. It's in the back underneath. Don't let the darkness fool ya on the inside. My wife was ready to push me in the harbor and marry the cook in the back who looked like a much better looking (and less tatted up) Post Malone. A reminder of all those dive bars you went to during college. A slight smell - not unpleasant with cold beer/drinks and a friendly bartender. Ask for the story of the dollar bills - they are everywhere. It's an interesting one. We did not eat - we arrived to late. But we returned after eating elsewhere to wrap up our night. Seating is varied - outside at tables, a couch, a high top or inside. Great view of the water. Glad we found Hemingways at the back of a building on Bay Street and hope to return in the future to sample something from the menu. read more

I couldn't believe the hospitality we had today! I thought it was just a bar place, but it had amazing food! They are a little hard to find, but well worth it! I would call it a hidden gem! Chef Ian and bartenders Kanani and Tammy are amazing. You just go up to the bar and and order from the menu or the specialty board. Everyone seems to love the muffelata sandwich, quiche of the day, homemade specialty soups and more... You can sit outside with a beautiful view of the downtown waterfront. read more

We were visiting friends in town and they took us to Hemingways after boating. We had 7 of us, we laughed and had a great time. Kananni the bartender was off the charts amazing very sarcastic in a good way and can make a hell of a cocktail! In my opinion a must stop place when you are in town. I hear the food is delicious, but I'll be really honest I only go here to drink! This isn't your pretentious cocktail club. This is where you go to get your drinks heavy and hang with old friends. You can usually find the place packed with locals and F&Bers who just finished a long shift at work. Make sure to bring cash or plan to run up a tab because they don't like to run cards for under $10. With $1 Jello shots and cheap fireball you can easily get enough bang for your buck. Ask for some markers and decorate a dollar to staple to the ceiling. Make sure to find it the next time you stop in and try to remember the memories you made. read more

What a total surprise! Very divey feel- almost wanted to walk out - so glad we didn't. The she crab soup is some of the best I have had - and I have consumed my fair share of she crab soup in SC. My husband had a house salad, I had a caesar salad - both were just so so. But the soup was exceptional. read more

If you come in here and you think you're special... and act like it, you will be knocked down a peg or three. This is a great little hole in the wall that respects their patrons with the respect they deserve. Go for Sunday Bloody Mary's, late night cocktails or anytime to soak up the salty good vibes. Pleasantly surprised. SOOOOO divey! If I didn't have a dog with me I would have loved to sit at the dark bar, an alcoholics dream. The bathroom is in the kitchen, next to the crockpot and microwave, haha. I had a hotdog and it was, of course, delish, and my bf had a meatloaf sandwich and he enjoyed it. The beer came out in plastic cups, which seemed par for the course. We will totally go back if we ever go to beaufort again because the price is right and food was tasty - but definitely a dive all the way around! read more

I tried so hard to like this place, but the prices were higher than most other places which is ironic because this is a hole in the wall bar. Went there for the first time and already a fight broke out right outside. Definitely not impressed with this place and would recommend going elsewhere. read more

This place must be for locals only, as stated by previous reviews. Walked in to order some drinks and were greeted by a rude bartender. Based on Google images, we were under the impression that we could order a simple mixed drink. Tried to order a mint julep, but the bartender scoffed and said "No." Okay, no big deal. Tried to order an old fashioned, but again a scoff and just an "Okay." Decided to take our business elsewhere and forgo the rude behavior. Will not be back here, even if it was the only option left in Beaufort. read more

It's a bit hidden from bay st. But the food is worth finding! I didn't know this place was a bar, and by most accounts, a "dive" bar at that! Must admit when we got there, I almost suggested leaving, but glad we stayed. We aren't drinkers, but the patio out back is ok, and there is a seating area inside away from the bar. If your looking for ambience, this is not the place for you! But the food simple but was terrific ! Bartender was very nice and came out back 2-3 times to check in us and refill our diet cokes! Great little dive bar on the waterfront. Sat outside with friends and had a few drinks. We had to go inside to the bar to get them, but that was ok. One of our drinks was wrong and the bartender realized it after we went outside and brought the corrected one. Can't speak to the food, but it is a great place to stop for a quick drink. So I'm in Beaufort for business and while looking for a restaurant to take my customer, I find Hemingway's. It was kind of tucked away and the reviews said it had a lot of locals. So I stopped on for just a minute for a quick bowl of She Crab soup and to enjoy the outside view. The soup was great and the view even better.....it was sunny and 65 in December. However, the service was not that great. The girl behind the bar was playing a game when I got there, which is no big deal but never checked on my after my order arrived. She could even manage a little conversation when she dropped the food off. I will come but it's a shame when even southerners can't be friendly. read more

I was visiting Beaufort in November and had a great time at Hemingway's! I called a few weeks ago wanting to buy a shot glass from the bar (I don't live in the area) and luckily the owner picked up and she was so accommodating! I called on a Saturday and by Tuesday she went to the post office and did expedited shipping so I got the shot glass as a birthday gift in time for a friend by Thursday. I'm so impressed by the lengths she went to make sure I got the gift in time. I will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in town! read more

I came here one night with my husband for a night out. I loved atmosphere. Wish it was a little darker inside the little pub but the bartender with the long hair totally made it a cool and fun atmosphere. Wish I could remember that guys name. I know it's not much to look at from the outside, but we were VERY pleasantly surprised. the food was amazing; we had the wings, chicken Caesar salad, Brie plate, and lots of beers.
