We were seating at a table where the sun was right in our face for the first 15 minutes and there were other tables out of the sun that were available. I ordered the Mahi which was really good. We recently visited Wren Bistro, and while the experience started on a positive note, it ultimately fell short for us. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere when you walk in, and we were greeted promptly by the hostess. Our server was attentive and very friendly, which we appreciated. At first glance, the restaurant appeared clean, but looking closer revealed otherwise. We were seated at a table with chairs and a bench, and unfortunately, the bench was quite dirty. Finding a plastic cocktail stick and paper stuffed between the seat and the back, and wilted flowers on the table were a definite turnoff. I ordered the Southern Salad with shrimp. There was just too much going on in the dish and not nearly enough actual greens. I don't mind onions, but there was at least a handful of red onions on my plate--far too much for my taste. I ate it, but I was not a fan and wouldn't order it again. My husband ordered the crispy flounder and did enjoy his meal. I love Ren, it's one of the best locations for a great burger, especially on Thursday nights. Thursday nights is their special therefore, I recommend you make a reservation in advance so that you can be seated. The staff is very nice. I do say that I have some patience. The food was good. The service was TERRIBLE. We were eating early so we were the only table our waitress was serving. We had extended waits before our drink order and food order were taken. I expect that on a busy night, not when we are the only table. Someone brought our food out and ten minutes later our waitress dropped off salt and pepper and was gone. Gone until we asked another server for her and then waited, and waited. Other servers were cycling around their tables. Stopping to check on food and drinks. Y'all. I think I found the best restaurant in Beaufort. Wren is all 10's, from top to bottom. The vibe is right, hosting a cozy and upscale feeling that lets you know that you've come to the right place. The menu, which rotates monthly, is a straightforward, very well done affair that does about 20 different items extremely well, rather than offering 40 different items whose quality & consistently may vary at times. The cocktails are creative and amazing, and you can see that their professional and friendly staff put a lot of energy into their work. Kat ordered the salmon, which is February's dish of the month, which came over a shrimp risotto and it was outstanding. I had the pecan chicken (it was close between that and the meatloaf) which was both generous in portion and had great flavor. We washed it down with a few drinks, had a terrific conversation with an older couple from Montana and just had a great time. I can't wait to come back. 10/10 Wren killed it last night. read more

Nice ambiance, quaint. Food overall was just meh. Starting with the App, we had the Pimiento Cheese with bread. It is a pretty big bowl of cheese with 4 smaller pieces of bread and some pickles. Flavor was good but 4 pieces of bread isn't near enough for that much cheese. The server offered to bring more pieces which we later found out was $2. Not a huge amount of money but considering the app was $11 and not enough bread initially to even eat half the bowl of cheese seems out of line. The bread, cheese and pickles were great. For the meal, I had the Shrimp and Grits and my guest had the fried flounder. The S&G had a Smokey flavor which was really overwhelming. The food flavors had no chance of coming through, I just tasted the smokiness. The alarming thing was that the grits were cold in the middle, like fresh out of the fridge cold. I heard the fried flounder was good but the corn relish and whatever sauce was drizzled was a bit much. It seems there's a trend at restaurants to completely overwhelm the flavor of what you're eating so you only taste the seasoning. The server handled the cold grits situation well and brought out another fresh bowl of Shrimp & Grits but I just couldn't stomach the taste. Got them to go and dumped them in the nearest trash bin as the to go box was already about to fall apart. However, when I asked about a drink on their menu that is basically an Old Fashioned, I expressed that I wanted it half sweet. The server assured me there wasn't any sweet in it. It was plenty sweet, like any Old Fashioned. I'd recommend the serving staff be educated a little better. Side note, we didn't have dessert but the table next to us got the Coconut Cake. To say the portion was large is an understatement, it was enough for nearly 4 people. Looked great! The server commented the chef was new, so maybe it was an off night or they hadn't quite got it together yet. To me there are better options in Beaufort to have a nice meal.
