Stolen Anniversary My wife & I wanted a little get away for our anniversary & didn't want to stay at a national chain hotel so we found hemlock. We booked 2 nights for the 10th & 11th nothing major. I wrenched my back pretty bad before we were going had to cancel on the 7th. The owner told my wife no refund & that's OK I understand the cancelation policy but would not let us rebook for a later date. My wife has tried to contact the owner a couple of times & no response. Wanted to book locally but not again in Boone if this is the way they treat guests. So if you book there you better hope life doesn't show up outside of their cancelation policy. Very cute and dressed up for Fall. Staff was very accommodating to fit us in with a last minute. One room was really tiny, could've left the couch out and given more room for luggage. This is my favorite place in Blowing Rock. It started years ago when I was looking for a place to take my Mama for Christmas. Her health was sketchy so I asked each place I called if I could cancel last minute and be refunded. After many attempts and not much positive headway, I called Hemlock Inn and spoke to Donna, one of the owners. She said "come on and we will make the stay great for her". It was great, she had a wonderful time and told everyone it was the best vacation ever, even though we were only just a couple of counties away. She lived in North Wilkesboro. Mama died a year or so later and I decided to stay in Blowing Rock and not Wilkesboro. I stayed there almost 10 times while I settled her estate. Each trip was perfect. It's not the flashiest place in Blowing Rock, but it is a great example of what you get in the NC mountains. read more

Hives and old bed pillow/ blankets. The loudest and most sleepless night of my vacations. While the rooms are quaint, the bed is extremely rough. Old pillows and blankets cover the bed. During our one night get away, I broke out in hives during the night. There are only two towels per room as well. They mention make up remover cloths, which still remain a mystery to be found. There was hair on the shower walls and the toilet handle had to constantly be jiggled to stop it from running. Other guests were extremely louD AND RUDE after "quiet hours". Unfortunately, our little romantic get away turned into a night of sleeplessness. There was a screaming child next door to us. I called the desk shortly after we arrived to the room for the night. I was told by a girl at the desk that things would be taken care of. The noise continued well into the night and no one would pick up in the office. Also if you want food after 9:30pm, you wont find any place to deliver to the hotel. They also offer no morning breakfast. Even after booking a room, to my surprise it was more then what was origionally stated. Almost $150 per night. Over priced for what is offered I should have stayed in the resort down the road. I wont stay here again. Especially now that I have to pay for a hospital visit due to an allergic reaction to whatever is used to clean those rooms/beds if they are at all cleaned. Also,what do you do with the old pillows they use to decorate the bed? How many people throw them on the floor? If you read the review multiple people ask the same question. They state that they "change the linens once a year", im not exactly sure what this means. I would like a refund! Note to the owner: I didnt come in the office, I called the desk at 9:30 when I got back to the room. Your little "you had problems paying for the room" comment, it was because of your machine noted by the good folks at capital one! My room was booked online and you told me you never recieved it even though I had a conformation number. Also, I did call and asked for a refund and was rudely dismissed by the young staff you have working there. Anyone who disagrees with your out of date mom and pop hotel is instantly wrong! I have made an attempt to get a refund, but I'm sure your teenage staff told you about that. You have my phone number on record, give me a call. As of now I have an ER bill due to your negligence. The location of this inn is very convenient to the 'downtown' area of Blowing Rock - an easy stroll to most of the restaurants, bars and shops. And from my very brief time at the Inn, it appeared to be clean and well-maintained. However, my complaint is the same one that, sadly, drove me to abandon my reservation and move elsewhere: the lack of wi-fi internet. Ultimately, this is a complain about misrepresentation by the hotel. Despite the hotel's description of itself, wi-fi is *not* available in all rooms. As I had some small amount of business emails to review in the evenings, a lack of internet service simply was not an option. And honestly, it's not a large hotel. The wi-fi signal must peter-out at any distance more than 30 feet from the router. I attempted to connect to the network on three different devices; none of them were able to even see the hotel's wi-fi signal, much less log in. Cel reception is unfortunately next to impossible to receive in the mountains, so wi-fi is the only option. After a bit of experimentation, I found that if I walked 50 or so feet out into the parking lot, it was possible to attain a wi-fi signal. But even that proved inadequate, unfortunately. I ran several speed-tests and was never able to achieve a download rate of more than .20 megs. Yes, that is *point* *two*; two-tenths of one-meg. Which is about the same speed as a dial-up modem in 1993. To the hotel's credit, the very friendly and kind desk manager offered to allow me to hang out with him in the motel office during desk-hours (e.g., prior to 9PM), which is where the wi-fi signal apparently was strong enough to be usable. Unfortunately, that didn't work in relation to the timeframes of some business emails that required attention, so we checked out and went to the nearby Holiday Inn Express. And while we were credited for one of the two nights we booked, I remain unhappy. The hotel is misrepresenting one of it's basic services. And we spent less than ten minutes total in the hotel room before vacating. While I sympathize with the problems inherent in losing a room-booking at the last minute, I feel the responsibility ultimately resides with the hotel, and their description of their facilities. If a hotel wants to use a $10 wi-fi router to deliver internet speeds that would have been considered archaic 20 years ago...honestly, that's fine. Just make a note of it when you describe your inn, so customers can make an informed decision. And if a guest correctly notes that your hotel description is in fact in error, and immediately departs as a result, the courteous thing to do would be to refund not half the total, but the full amount. Doing less than that comes off as a bit petty. read more

My husband and I just spent 2 nights at the Hemlock Inn and enjoyed the experience. It's a cute little Inn in the heart of Blowing Rock. Walking distance from Main Street which is great! The room was cute and well kept. Staff very friendly. Simple and sweet! read more

Super cute, super convenient, super friendly, and affordable! There were three of us traveling, and when we got there, they showed us around to different room sizes and options and let us pick what we wanted to do. They made reservations for us and cancelled them when we changed our mind. We walked to everything. We were there for the wine festival but be prepared that Blowing Rock itself has ZERO nightlife. I don't think anything was open past like 7pm. But the hotel was comfortable for us to drink in the room and play cards! read more

We stayed in a king suite which was decorated beautifully. There is a fully stocked kitchen but no table. The bed was comfortable. The shower surface was very slippery which could be dangerous. Overall really cute place. read more

I grew up in Blowing Rock and my husband and I vacation there often. The Hemlock Inn is super reasonably priced and fabulously located, the rooms are small but lovely and owners and all of the employees are friendly and very helpful. The only drawback is the wifi, which is spotty and often slow. Best signal and speed is usually available sitting out in the gazebo, which is not very practical for serious internet use. But, if you are ok with a holiday from your devices (cell service can be spotty in town as well), on your mountain holiday consider staying here. Landscaping and decoration at the motel are quite attractive, rooms are very nicely furnished, and you can't beat being able to walk just about every place in town and not having to worry about parking. read more

We were scheduled to arrive around 1:30am on Friday. I had spoken to the front desk attendant 2 times on Thursday to confirm that a key would be left in the late arrivals box. When we pulled into the Inn at 1:45am we were shocked to find no room key in the late arrivals box. I checked our credit card account and of course they had already charged our card with the 2 nights stay. There was no phone number posted by the late arrivals box to call in case of emergency. To our dismay we began to pull out of the parking lot and find any hotel that would take the 4 of us, my husband and 2 teenagers. As we were pulling out we noticed on the office window which was not near the late arrivals box, actually it was in another building on the property in tiny print in case of emergency call Xxx-XXXX. No area code posted just the 7 digit number. We called and the owner I'm assuming answered the phone and said he'd be right over. It took a good 15-20 min for him to arrive. At 2:10am with 2 teenagers we were ready to be in bed! We make it to our room and have the WORST night sleep!!! The beds were so hard and uncomfortable!!! They literally left me in so much pain for days afterwards. I went down stairs to ask what could be done to compensate us for the no key situation and the lady at the desk ( the wife of the man that came the night before ) seemed annoyed that I was even asking. She gave me a 15% discount. To me that really wasn't much being that it was a total of $40 dollars and the 2 nights cost a total of $326. I accepted it bc I didn't have time to explain to the lady why she should be a little more sympathetic to our situation. The only good things I can say about the stay was that the location was great and the decor was cute and the cleanliness was good. read more

While my husband and I have our "usual inn" in Blowing Rock, for Valentines day he decided to try out a new place and rented us a room at the Hemlock. As he reserved the room online, he was under the impression that the King room was going to be covered in wood, very rustic and have an electric fireplace. The check in situation was cute and old school... reservations were all written in a book, no computer system to help the housekeeping staff communicate with the gal at the front desk... they accept Cash or Credit. Room 9 was the pits if ya ask me! The room itself was fine I guess. The room seemed cleaned but I wasn't big on the fairly dated linens. The room was painted mint green and had no rustic feel, nor was there a fireplace in site. The heating unit in the room was extremely loud and every few hours it would start clicking very loudly, to the point where it woke us at 4 AM and we decided then and there to hit the road and head back home! The bed was extremely hard ( Granted I am pregnant so I may be picky but my husband agreed!!). Was the little motel in a great location? YES, but all together, I wouldn't bother straying from our favorite place again! read more

I liked this hotel. We originally were planning to stay elsewhere, but that booked up at the last minute so we found an available room here. We booked online and arrived for 3pm check-in. Our original impression wasn't great, since we were questioned if we were really staying at the hotel (we arrived during a Food & Wine festival, so I suppose a lot of people were trying to park without actually being guests). But once they realized we were actually guests with a reservation, they helped us a find a parking spot and checked us in. The hotel itself is cute, with little animals carved into the wood along the balcony. We had booked a double queen room. Our room was clean and spacious. We liked how big the bathroom was! There was no closet, but the room had lots of big windows, a mirror and dresser, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, table, TV, and the bathroom had a tub/shower, toilet, mirror, and even a little shelf to keep your toiletries, which with 4 people was VERY useful. The WiFi connection was really good and a lot faster than I have had in corporate hotels. The hotel even has a little gazebo with a fire pit available for use. The beds were really comfy, the bedding was nice and soft and there were so many blankets I loved it. And everything was in walking distance: a nice community park, some restaurants (including Mellow Mushroom) and a market with snacks and cigarettes. It's also just a short drive over to Boone and area attractions. We really enjoyed our stay! It was simple, comfortable, and just what we needed. read more

Stayed in a double room. Wasn't told it was a Murphy bed coming out of the wall. The bed was as hard as a rock. Also there were hairs on the pillow case and sheets. So I doubt the bedding had been changed obviously. Small stand up shower, no tub. Wouldn't advise staying here unless everything is booked like in our case. read more

My wife and I spent our one year anniversary at The Hemlock Inn. We stayed three nights in the standard queen room. The staff were very helpful in pointing out local restaurants and shops. The room was quaintly decorated. The bathroom was very clean and neat. The quiet atmosphere and outdoor seating and gazebo was very relaxing at night. The inn is conveniently located in downtown Blowing Rock. We were able to walk everywhere and drove only when we left town. We would definitely stay there again. read more

What a nice Inn. Rooms are comfortable and extremely well decorated. The staff was very friendly. The Inn is walking distance from the shops. I recommend the Hemlock Inn for anyone that wants to stop in Rolling Rock for a few days. read more
