(Lennon and McCartney) I attended a charitable organization's golf outing on Tuesday and had a very enjoyable afternoon. No, I don't play golf except for a round of mini a few times a year. The grounds are gorgeous, with flowers, landscaped scenery, and gazebos everywhere. The bartenders and servers were all courteous, professional and very helpful. Blackstone cooked a simple dinner for our 100+ guests. It was a nice "make your own sandwich" version with burger patties, hot dogs, chicken and sausages paired with platters of cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, rolls and potato salad. They have a massive outdoor patio with plenty of tables and chairs for us to drink, socialize, and eventually enjoy dinner.

The price of 68 with a cart and unlimited (really worn out and tired) range balls off grass included with greens fees. I never see public courses in CT have grass ranges. They layout wasn't bad. The front 9 was a little tight. Whoever designed the course had to be creative with the landscape. The course was very hilly which I don't mind. Some memorable par 3's. The greens required very accurate approach shots. Most misses were short as approach shots that were right left or long usually required a difficult chip up a slope or ended up in the woods. The bad: Unfortunately when I played on 5/15 (normally a great time of year for growing grass) the fairways were in rough shape with bare spots lots of spots that could have been considered ground under repair. The greens were slow and in rough shape as well. Of all my putts I would be hard pressed to remember one that rolled well. Most putts were bouncing around from the start. Not a waking course at all. In fact they wouldn't let you walk even if you wanted to. I guess this helps with pace of play given some of the longer walks in between holes and the hilly landscape. Overall: Considering the conditions of the course especially the greens, pace of play and layout I would say this course was average at best. Not terrible for the price. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to play here again. If the greens were grass covered, cut and rolled and the fairways were in better condition that might be a different story. The course does have potential.

The duo we got grouped up with was so incredibly kind and really made the experience so great. The holes ranged in length which was great to switch it up. Despite arriving before our scheduled time, the cashier took roughly 10 minutes to process our payment, taking her sweet time, and then another couple minutes to get our clubs and everything into the cart. By the time we actually reached the tee, we were late -- largely because of the course's own slow check-in process. The starter then told us we had to skip the first hole because the couple we were paired with was finishing up. We politely asked if we could simply play the first hole, and instead of trying to understand the situation, the starter gave us an attitude and a lecture about how strict they are about arriving on time. Apparently that rule only applies to customers and not to the staff taking 15+ minutes to get us checked in and into a cart. The whole operation feels like it's being run by incompetent people who are completely disconnected from their customers. What made it even more ridiculous was that the couple we were paired with had their BABY with them in a stroller on a links-style course. They were genuinely nice people, so this isn't directed at them, but it's hard to understand how the course can accommodate that while refusing to show any understanding toward customers who were delayed by traffic and then further delayed by the course itself. This is a 9-hole course that costs around $45 with a cart, and there were open tee times even on a weekend. On top of that, while we were playing, there was nobody on the hole behind us or even two holes behind us. So clearly there was room on the course and no legitimate reason why we couldn't have played the first hole. For $45 for nine holes, I expect at least basic customer service and common sense. Instead, we got an unnecessarily hostile experience over a situation that the course itself contributed to. Absolutely would not recommend. Would give a 0/5 if I could... The course itself was alright, modern golf carts were cool but the starter absolutely ruined our round and left a bad taste in our mouth for the whole round.

Given that there is no directional signage posted that shows players how to get to the range, I drove up the hill yesterday instead of down looking everywhere for the range,. I finally asked a surly cart boy where it was and he responded with derision that "it was right down the hill." When I got there the ball machine was overly difficult to navigate so I drove back to the cart boy to request assistance. He made it clear that he was put out but drove down to the machine with me. Once he got it working it was out of balls! at only 1PM on a Sunday. I asked how that could be and why wasn't it being serviced? his response "Oh well..there are only two of us. You're happy to complain to the Head Pro. Which I did in the pro shop only to be told A) you dove right by the range coming into the course. So he was blaming me for not being able to find it. B) he also shrugged at the machine being empty..and like the cart boy said Oh Well." If any of these staff worked for a Corporate Service Industry Company they would be terminated on the spot for their behavior. I reminded the Head Pro that in fact golf course are in the Service Industry and he might want curb his attitude and that of his unprofessional and rude staff.
