Just cancelled our Motor Club subscription. As a seller we wanted to take advantage of the promised free Make Offer car listings benefits. After creating our ads and submitting them for review, Hannah M. Perrota was assigned to our case and had questions for us regarding title, photos etc. After calling to get clarification and emailing the answers, we get told we have to change our listing category to a paid Classified ad. At this point it became clear that we were never going to get our ads listed because Hannah still had disputes with us such as the photos not being at the right angle, appearing old etc which were never disclosed to us at the time of the listing nor was there talk of new photos taken 2 months ago being a problem. The only problem was we had a membership that would enable us to make car listings for free, so Hemmings wasn't making any money upfront. Furthermore, this is not a one off experience as others have posted on here. Hemmings has been a known go-to source for car sellers and buyers as well as enthusiasts. However they have since changed and after listing parts with them now for months, we still have not see beyond a few phone calls and no sales being done through this platform. read more

Recently banned from participating on Hemmings auction site after three year's of selling over $750,000.00. I am an individual not a dealer! I must say that during those three year's the armchair warrior's and there not so polite comments take there toll. But the icing on the cake is the upper management lack of consideration to communicate with there consigners. Trying to get my point across to the mioptic point of view with the managing editor and the woman now in charge of operations at Hemmings they decided to terminate me from participating? I have used Hemmings for the past 20+yrs.. and it's a shame to say this but not any longer. Hemmings has changed it's "ole school platform".. For us old school car guys who just want to place a ole school ad, it seems as Hemmings has thrown us under the bus. I paid the $149.95 bucks and placed my old truck on hemmings... not one call, it was never advertised online at all. When I called Hemmings the gal said, "oh the traditional classified ads don't work any longer, you gotta place a Auction or Make a offer ad if you want to "really sell your car". So I asked her, So why did you take my $149.95??.. She just laughed and said next time try the make a offer ad. So I called and the Make a offer ad you gotta agree not to sell anywhere else? it's not a auction, so why would I agree to that? I have used Hemmings to purchase classic cars in the past. My best friend has purchased several from the Hemmings site and has sold one and told me how awful the experience was. Without taking his advice I tried listing my vehicle and it turned into the most ridiculous process I ever experienced. I spend 38 years in the automobile business, traveling to auto auctions across the country purchasing cars for the dealer group I worked for. Once you go through the effort to upload photos and give your description, you have no control over the rest of the arduous process! One person after another reads the rules to you. They make you lower your reserve expectations so that they have a better sell-rate, with no regard for what the vehicle might be actually worth. It's a gauntlet that is insulting and unnecessary! I had to learn the hard way, but I will not sell a vehicle using Hemmings the remainder of my life. I sent my title to a company called Key Savvy, which is the front company for Hemmings Pay and Title, and received a message that it was received on November 4, 2025.. The transportation told me they would pickup my vehicle on November 7th. Then the pickup date was rescheduled to November 10th or 11th. Rescheduled for November 13th or 14th. Finally, a different driver showed up the morning of the 14th. I signed an iPad and the vehicle was onto its new home. I went online and I was supposed to get a Bill of Lading. No Bill of Lading offered and I forgot to ask, figured that Hemmings was organized enough to have this information. Right now, I don't have anything and consider my vehicle was stolen. They were able to hack into Hemmings network and come down here and load my vehicle onto a semi truck/trailer. Hemmings can't seem to schedule, communicate or coordinate with a shipping company and they are supposed to being doing this all day, everyday. I'll be visiting the State Police to file a stolen vehicle report as the KEY SAVVY company says they don't have any information. read more

Stop! Beware of this company in terms of the Auto Auction! Do NOT Attempt to purchase a car here! Well unless you want to pay a lot of money! My experience, local places have less expensive cars, Offer Up, and Ebay are also good, plus you can see feedback on who you may be dealing with.....good experiences and bad experiences! High Fees, Horrible way of doing auctions, they keep the auction going for bids in the last minutes, save your stress level. Thus, If I bid in the last minutes additional time is added to the auction, they act like its supposed to be fair to others but they make more money! Hmmmm? You have been warned! Their publications are excellent, no question. The auction, however, I must warn you. Three cars I've bought through Hemming's; two went beautifully. The third is a nightmare. I have to take responsibility, Hemming's reminded me, and I do. That said, I started having trouble with this car before it ever reached home. I called the seller and Hemming's to tell them that NY won't even pass inspection on this Seville. New brake lines, new transmission torque converter and solenoid, and once again -yesterday's attempt - failure to pass emissions tests! I have $$$ ahead of me; Hemming's takes no responsibility whatsoever for supporting me in any way with getting the seller to be held accountable. I've been dealing with hemmings since the early 1980's but i'll never waste my money with them, plus we were going to register for the great race that wont happen either. I had a 1961 Ford Starliner stolen and asked about putting an ad in asking for help but according to Alyssa from Hemmings they dont allow that type of ads at this time then she wrote anymore. Make up your mind. Big help to the car collectors, Hemmings doesn't have your back. It might worth the drive to Vermont and have a face to face. read more

I attempted to list a 1965 Mustang on their auction site and was working with Karissa to build the listing. It took several weeks to get to a point where they provided the auction listing based on the content that we provided. We asked for two changes, one was to remove one incorrect statement in the Chassis section and to modify the title as we did not like it. They changed the one incorrect statement but REFUSED to change the title. I called in and spoke to Alan to which he spoke to the Editor. He again refused to change the title. The title that they had suggested was "Ready to be Finished 1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop Project". We did not like the reference for the car was ready to be finished or the reference to a project. The car runs well and is in great shape. I asked for a different title and they refused to change it. I cancelled the order and am disputing the charge. Responses to emails took several days and no updates were provided unless you asked them. There are too many other auto auction sites to be bothered with this frustration. read more

I tried to list a car with them. I paid a $100 to list and for auction. I called them and at first they said someone will reach out to me with in 5 business days. I waited for that, no one reached out to me. About a week after that they said they need a carfax or autocheck. I had uploaded both already, but I reuploaded BOTH (they only need one) but I uploaded both. Again they say they need a carfax. I upload again via email. The lady see's it's "AUTOCHECK" does not bother to read the second attachment. I tell her you asked for either an autocheck or a carfax and I uploaded both. She does not reply after that. It's not day 21 (three weeks in) of paying and not getting service. I just disputed the charges. read more

For nearly 40 years we have advertised with HMN. September 2020 we sent HMN and e-mail and a follow up call that we no longer needed there services. They continued to charge us for 10 months. We requested our money back and they said the most they would do is 3 months. Just off the phone with my AMEX card representative 6-24-2021 They were able to refund 4 months only. I left a detailed message at HMN about a week ago and they did nothing. You do not treat long time customers like this or in their case they do. Really to big to care. Hemmings, the old phone book of car sales is now playing catch up by offering cars at auction. They seem however to be a day late and a dollar short. Their entire process has holes in it. Personally I made a comment about a car which was information a buyer could use. Hemmings pulled my comment along with another similar comment from someone else. It would seem Hemmings is interested in the sale proceeds but not buyer satisfaction. Shame on you Hemmings. read more

Tried Hemmings Auction touted in their Magazine. They will let some sellers set a "Reserve" others they won't. They seem to be more interested in making fees themselves that in pleasing sellers. And they act like they know what your car is worth to you than you do. You may not want to sell it if you do not get your price. You pay $99.99 to list a car and don't be fooled that they will be some kind of buyer's fee; you the seller will pay that percentage of the sale also to Hemmings as it will be taken out of the price the buyer is to pay to you. If the bid is low and the Auction is over you must sell. They are like a used car dealer, they want sales. I was not satisfied with the process and they pressure they put on you. I would not sell a car through their Auction again. And I have owned and sold over 120 cars in 50 years. read more

HORRIBLE ! I spent $129 and place a classified ad with him on the recommendation of a friend, the ad includes six months online and one month published. The print publishing was delayed over a month and I was selling a very rare car, which is very popular and I got no responses except a guy who already had one and just wanted to look at mine to compare it to his. I couldn't wait any longer after of a month of no action, so for $19 I put it on eBay for a week and it's sold above what I expected. I contacted Hemmings and said look I got no viable responses, and it hasn't even published in your magazine yet is there any chance you can at least credit me partially for the $129 I spent ? They said no. I said well what about a credit towards another listing later and they said no. I said so there's nothing you can do for me as I got nothing for my $129 not even having it in the printed ad ? They said no. I will never do any business with a company and I will tell everyone I know who owns collector or other cars never to sel through them. Just awful experience. read more

I was selling my 1950 Ford Coupe on Hemmings.com auction site. The top 3 bidders did not complete the purchase of my vehicle do to, it was too much for them, wanted the car for thousands less than their bid or couldn't get the money. Hemmings.com says their buyers are legit with credit cards on file. My car still shows on Hemmings.com that it is sold when indeed it is not. I shed them to remove it from being sold and take it down off the site. Hemmings did not do that. I would like to know how many times this has happened to other people. It is false advertising saying that Hemmings.com sold vehicles that truly did not get sold. Tricking people to go to them to sell and taking their money. I asked for a refund as well, but no response to my email to refund or removing my car from the listing saying sold. I don't recommend Hemmings.com to anyone selling a vehicle. Above shows 1-5 star rating. I'm not giving any stars but,if it shows 1 star it's only because I had to choose one. read more

I took them up on their offer of a free issue. The magazine is fine, but I don't like their marketing. They regularly send out deceptive notices that look like bills. In reality, they just want me to sign up for a subscription. The worst part is they sold my name to other companies. Now I receive unwanted junk mail by the boat load. How do I know they sold my name? I added a secret code to my address. Now that code appears on all the unwanted junk mail. Thanks for nothing, Hemmings. read more

I have been a subscriber of this excellent publication since my Dad introduced me to it when I received my first vintage truck for high school graduation back in 1976 (back when the Motor News cover was basically a brown paper wrap). My 1935 Ford Fire Truck happened to be located close to me here in Chicago. It was used as the pumper truck for the Sterling, Illinois volunteer fire department. The publication has been instrumental in my search for many needed original replacement parts and professional services through their subscribers and advertisers over the years without any problems. I found and purchased my second 1935 Ford Big Truck in 1993 through another subscriber's classified ad that was used on a cattle farm up in Wisconsin that I got running and now resides on a sheep farm operation in Scotland. The articles have been very helpful in my quest to stay in my garage and out of my honey's (boss lady) way. I don't know what happened to the 1 star or no star reviewers but everyone that I have ever had the pleasure of communicating with over the years at Hemmings Motor News or one of the awesome magazines, Classis Cars or Muscle Machines (I've been a gear head since I raced my '66 Chevelle back in high school) has been extremely helpful. FYI: Unfortunately, when you have great experiences with something or someone, you don't always think about how awesome something or someone is until someone writes a scalding review about it or them. The only reason that I came across these poor reviews was I'm on the website to get the Hemmings headquarters location information for the team that I'm sponsoring in the Motorcycle Cannonball Endurance Run from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon with a scheduled pit stop at the Hemmings headquarters location on 09SEP18. I hope to finally meet some of the remaining (old timers) staff that I've enjoyed reading their articles for the last 4 decades....it's about time, ya think?
