There appeared to be drug activity, and there were people living in their cars. It felt more like a place for people to hang out and purchase drugs than a normal parking lot. I observed this as I drove through, which was very concerning. This was a bummer, especially since the trail itself looked beautiful. I'm surprised that law enforcement hasn't been called by the neighborhood, but then again, I understand that people can sometimes become used to these conditions.

We went camping at Lake McSwain with friends, and they said the highlight of their trip every year…read moreis Splash and Dash. We did not know what to expect other than to bring water shoes! Instead of driving, we decided to paddleboard over from our campsite. It's about $50 to spend the day there. We arrived and noticed they had lakeside cabanas to rent for $180, but all the cabanas were booked so we rented two lounge chairs and a small table in the shade for $30. After you sign a waiver, you pay for a wristband, get fitted with a provided life vest, and attend a short safety briefing. Then you get in the very cold water, and swim over to the inflatable water park. Much of it is like an obstacle course. The entire park is inflatable so if you do not like walking on unstable surfaces, this is not for you. There were people there of all ages. The more agile and adventurous you are the more fun you will have. They have water slides of all sizes, jumps, monkey bars, climbing walls, and so much more. You do have to swim from attraction to attraction, but eventually get used to the cold water. It was challenging for me, but my friends had an absolute blast jumping off of the high platforms and going down the huge waterslide. They also had an area where you can relax on huge inflatable loungers. You can bring your own food and snacks, or even BBQ. They also have a café with food, and they sell beer as well. If you have ever watched the television show Wipeout, and wanted to try it, this is the place for you!

This was well worth it. FREE access, views, nature sounds, fishing. What more could you ask for. Pack your own snack or lunch even if you wanted too. You won't many benches to sit along the way, but hey, why not utilize one of the many massive tree trunks that were just cut up on the side of the trail. If you have any type of water shoes, bring those alongside your walking shoes. During our visit we did about a good 4 miles of trail visit. The road entering into the location is very narrow, and almost like a one vehicle a time passing.We would DEFINITELY see ourselves visiting here again. No IF, ANDs or BUTS about it.

Pro tip, you can drive up to near the dam and do the trail backwards if you want to be able to see the dam without hiking as long. One caveat, you have to walk single file so it's a bit hard to have any big group conversations.

The walk took 3.8 miles. Though the hike is relatively short, the steep incline towards the ridge is not for the faint-hearted. Why 4 and not 5? There was graffiti along the rails which was a distraction for visitors. These are writing on a public surface without permission, and is considered vandalism and an eyesore. Superb little picnic and frolic spot near Wawona - ideal for young families…read more Visited a couple of times when we were staying at the Redwoods (vacation rental) nearby. The walk from the parking lot is an easy half-mile through the trees, and then you have to make your way to the swinging bridge and down to the water and the rocks. Walking across the swinging bridge (which we did one at a time) was my favorite experience, followed by swimming in the water below. The early am visit was much more pleasant, later in the day it gets hot and there isn't much shade down near the water. We all had a blast, and will surely return!
