Totally cliché, but I'm going to daringly say that Henderson Park has something for everyone. When I was there, I observed a kids soccer game, picnickers, hikers, dogs being walked by their owners, Girl Scouts having a meeting, fisherpeople, photoshoots, children playing, birthday parties, and people just chilling by the lake. Seriously, that's nearly everyone who wants to be outside! Regarding hiking, the trails are not marked very clearly. The map doesn't show all the turnoffs, and it gets confusing. Maybe it's this way to give you a sense of adventure? At least it's tough to get really lost since you're often within sight of houses or the road. Beautiful woods! As for restrooms, there was a porta potty in the parking lot adjacent to the playground by Lake Erin, and the map indicates that there are other restrooms in Henderson Park too. Speaking of maps, I might recommend a quick peek at one before you go since the park can be accessed from different roads (Henderson and Livsey). Didn't get to explore the other side of the park with the native plant and wildlife walk this trip but next time! read more

When the shelter in place order began, I looked for places to hike that were not too far from home. I came across Henderson Park and decided to give it a try. This is a great neighborhood park. If I lived nearby, I'd take a walk here every chance I could. In addition to the trails, there are athletic fields, a kids play area and a great wide deck where people can look out at the lake or eat a nice lunch. There is a lot of parking and the park itself is well-maintained. I was able to find a map of the park trails online, and it was helpful but trail maps aren't perfect. I tried to walk as many of the trails as I could, but I was turned around a lot. We'd also had a lot of rain prior to my visit so a lower trail path by the lake was flooded. There is a small waterfall in the park, and I think I saw it but I'm not sure. There were a lot of rock formations in the creeks/streams, and none were labeled. I went to Henderson Park with a friend who needed to use the bathroom. The main bathrooms are located on the west end of the park by the soccer fields. On the east end of the park, there are port-a-potties. There are no bathrooms near the kids park which was a surprise and why I mention where the bathrooms are located. Overall, I'm glad that I gave Henderson Park a visit. The people who live nearby are lucky to have it. read more

Henderson Park is great for families!!! The playground is conveniently located next to the parking lot (one of many), a picnic pavilion, Lake Erin, and hiking trails. After my kids played at the playground, we took the trails. We did a counterclockwise loop and it was great. Through the woods, ducks to see on the water, bridges to cross, and back to the parking lot. There is also a free library next to the playground. When driving out, we saw soccer fields and tennis courts as well. Parking is plenty. We will definitely be back. read more

Good trails with a cute lake, creek, and even some small waterfalls. Park has a playground, dog park, tennis courts, and soccer field. Parts are paved, but most aren't. Not stroller-friendly. Some houses back up to it. Not a hard hike, relatively flat. Free parking. Dog-friendly with a few dog waste dispensers - at the trail entrances, at the entrance near the soccer fields, at the playground, and at the dog park. The trails are not well marked. I visited Henderson Park just a week ago for the first time. I can't believe I hadn't been before! It's a lovely nature-focused spot not far from I-285. There are 2 entrances. I entered at the one near the community garden. There were single stall bathrooms and water fountains there, some grills and picnic tables, and one of the most aesthetically pleasing playgrounds I've seen. This playground is good-looking. It uses mostly wood and some metal in its structures, very rarely plastic. I really appreciate how the playground designers added on imagination-inspiring rock animals at the edge of the playground where the ground turns to the forest walk. It reminded me of the book _The Last Child in the Woods_ and how it says that children are often drawn to the liminal spaces at the edges of playgrounds. There is a wonderful nature walk leading to a small lake. There's a local plant species walk. There's an incredible Southern Magnolia (*perfect* for climbing) and free parking. I'm looking forward to our next day at Henderson! Bring a picnic lunch! read more

I'm a huge fan of Henderson Park, which we discovered during the pandemic in our constant quest for outdoor destinations. Not too far from us in somewhat quiet Tucker, Henderson Park surprised us with its somewhat extensive (for an urban park) unpaved trail system. Parking is pretty easy, unless there are tennis matches or soccer games at the time (then you'll make multiple loops like we did--though we did find that there are a few lots to park in). Henderson has other typical park amenities, such as a playground area (loved by our little guy), tennis courts, soccer fields, and picnic tables. The lake is lovely as well and sees its fair share of folks fishing when the weather is nice but the trails are what get me when I come here. The loop is over two miles long with decent signage and is rated as moderate by AllTrails.com. Not being paved with changes in elevations, you will be treated to views of woodland creatures and birds, as well as pretty lush forest and water (including a waterfall). While easy to avoid if you're aware, be sure to steer clear of poison ivy and the like, as well as potentially poisonous mushrooms. Those who know me know that I often grab a pair of flats for any kind of walking, as I generally eschew "practical" footwear due to their less attractive aesthetic. Welp, this park is not the place to do that and I've swallowed my pride to save my feet and ankles. Thankfully, my pride appears to decline in size as I age. All that to say, if you're going to push up your heart rate by walking the trails, come ready with the appropriate footgear. Just a decent pair of sneakers will do the trick though be careful if you are at the part approaching the waterfall, as there will be some rock-hopping in the little stream to get good photos proving you made it. read more

I have been coming to Henderson Park for a couple years now and it really is such a great park in an unexpected location. It can be a bit busy and difficult to find parking sometimes on the weekends due to soccer games. However, for the most part during the week, it is relatively less crowded and parking is a breeze. There are a couple trails that you can walk along and they are quite extensive (speaking as someone who has gotten distracted and lost on them a few times). It is also very enjoyable to stand by the large lake and just relax at times. There is a pretty great playground within a quick walk from the parking lot for the kids as well. I will say one thing that can be better is the cleanliness of the park, but I acknowledge that we all play a part in that too. The other day, I went walking along the trails and found quite a bit of trash in the pathway (old wrappers, water bottles, etc.) Overall, an amazing part though! read more

It's been getting too hot to walk outside, but there are occasionally some cooler and less humid days scattered throughout the summer. We ventured to Henderson Park for a light stroll after our lunch and refreshing post-lunch drinks. We found a few walking trails and noticed that they had no real direction - mile/trail markers would have really helped. However, every turn we took ended up taking us back to where we could recognize where we were, at the very least. Because it seemed like we were hiking aimlessly for the longest time, we actually didn't get too far. The park is quiet, except for the occasional gaggle of kids and parents. Overall, if we're ever in the area again and the weather isn't too deathly hot, we might try out some of the walking trails again. They're not intense, so they make for an easy afternoon walk. read more

Great park in the heart of Tucker and I love hiking at this park. Between the lake and waterfall and surrounding forest, it's a beautiful place to lose yourself on a hot summer's day. It's truly a hidden treasure and a big thanks to the city for the new dock and bridges. It's a public park with a waterfall, soccer fields, tennis courts, trails and a community garden. The three main trail systems with red, white, and blue blazes are fantastic. But be careful, as some of the trails get narrow, steep, or bumpy with rocks and roots. There are actually two waterfalls in the park. On the northside of Lake Erin is a steep, grassy hill beside a fall just below a drain pipe. Don't let that turn you off, though it's fantastic. Just listen for the running water and be careful as you approach. On the southside of the lake is the more popular waterfall, which isn't on the trail map. You can listen for hikers or try following the unmarked route just on the west side of the southernmost boardwalk. The boardwalks that are spread throughput the trail add a few nice places to stop and admire a little bit of nature. It's a mostly well maintained park with a variety of options like soccer fields, walking trails, a small lake, and some playgrounds. The facilities for restrooms are aging, but functional in an old park systems kind of way. Normally pretty good parking and access when needed. Pets friendly, but bring their own water to drink. The people in the park were friendly while walking their dog. Plenty of free parking available. Overall it's a very nice place and I definitely plan to go here again. read more

We are new to the Chamblee area and Are always looking for a place for our labs to burn some energy and swim. This park has extensive trails and a large lake. You can make the hike/walk as easy or hard as you'd like depending on which trail you follow. Another big pro is being able to let our dogs walk off leash. Everyone is always so friendly and I have never had an issue. Great park overall! read more

I talk a lot about Gwinnett Parks and how amazing they are, so it's really nice when I stumble across a park I didn't know existed that just so happens to be in Dekalb County! Henderson Park was a truly unplanned find, as I was detoured by gps down Henderson road and I turned right on in when I saw the park sign. At first glance, it looks like a sports park. Y'know, all football/soccer fields without much else, but take a walk around and you're in for a treat. First cool thing about Henderson park is there's a dedicated wheelchair access ramp to the lower levels. I gotta admit, I don't always see that, and it's a welcome addition! There are a series of trails, both paved and natural soil trails. There are several forks to these trails, some of which lead you to a community garden, and others that lead you down a nature walk trail that literally put you smack in the middle of the woods. Instead of continuing on, I hopped in my car and followed directions (see photos) that leads to the Lake (or what looks to be the main entrance of the park). After driving through a neighborhood for a few minutes, and entering the park from the left, there's a trail that leads you right down to the lake (just drive all the way to the back of the park). The lake is very nice, quiet, and looks inviting. Before you get to the lake there's a couple of children's play areas, a covered picnic area, , a nice field to play with your dog, and more trails (both paved and natural). A trail map is also located near the lake, which shows all of the trails in colors, but fails to give you the distance or names of each trails. It does seem possible to walk from one side of the park to the other, but I didn't do this today. Maybe next time! Still, this is a very nice find, with a little bit of variety to keep just about everyone happy. If you live near this park or are in the area, take a walk and enjoy. read more

This park was so nice to walk in a month ago I don't know what happened. Now when I go it's empty and creepy, no kids on the playground , no one walking the trails. There no signs up telling you what's going on. But I went one time and this guy was following me through the park it with an axe or something in his hand it was weird so I left. We were the only ones in the park. The trail is is beautiful and I use to loved walking it. I wish they would communicate what's going on. I even looked online to see if there was some update. I don't know why I am reviewing a park, but what the heck. According to yelp, my check-in here made me a tree hugger, so I may as well. This is a cute park. Girlfriend and I came here with her dogs, and they have some pretty trails around the park through the woods. Great for your dogs, and I imagine fun for kids. We enjoyed it, saw a couple other couples as well enjoying the pretty day. As I said, it's wooded, so there is plenty of shade even if its a bit warm. They have a kids playground and I think they have other recreational facilities, but I wasn't paying attention. Nice place to spend a couple of hours if you're in the area. read more

Definitely the best park in Tucker. I love that there's so much to explore at this park, including a waterfall. The newly renovated playground is great for kids of all ages, and if you have a chance to check out the more nature-centered playground near the community garden, it's worth it. Henderson Park has mature, beautiful trees, wildflowers, sun, shade, and a winding, multi-level nature trail. It also has a sad quantity of invasive species--privet and ivy, bullying the native plants. But you can see people have put an excellent effort into making it inviting--it offered a good, though short walk, and a very appealing community garden. I really liked the big trees and the many labels for different trees, shrubs and smaller wildflowers. Bluebird boxes. A poster of protected Georgia plants and of migratory birds. Nicely done, educational, welcoming. It has multiple attractive small gazebos, grills, benches and picnic tables. It had a soccer field above, which it appeared you could not walk all the way around (and I wanted to). Charmingly, the soccer area had a long path beside the steps to the lower nature paths, meant to make the soccer field accessible for a person using a wheelchair or a scooter. They planned it well, and a lot of the paths are paved, also good for a person using wheels. My intuition warned me about parts of the nature paths. I got slightly spooked down there, where one was not visible and the understory growth was high. I almost explored along the creek and wetlands. A man was also walking alone in that part. Graffiti and trash were present, and it felt too isolated. I don't know if I was expecting bobcats or feral bunnies or what: I wanted out. But the soccer part and the upper nature trails are great. I'll be back, it would be an excellent spot for a picnic, too. read more

Basically, a pretty good park. A year or so ago, there was an issue with someone smashing car windows and stealing things. So I'd have to say that it would probably be an improvement if some trees were taken down to create a clear line of site from the playground up to the parking lot. I know that most peopled don't want to cut down trees, but if it helped everyone keep an eye on their cars, it would be a good thing. It's probably best for 2-6 year olds, as the playgrounds are not that exciting, but the kids can feed the ducks, and I just took our 4yo for a nice hike around the lake. The paths could be marked better, but you can't get too lost. There are some soccer fields, so depending on what is going on, you could probably find some open space on a field accessible either from the Henderson Road entrance, or the other entrance (found by winding through some neighborhoods). Note that the Henderson Road entrance does not take you to the playground area. In short, the playground equipment does not compare to Liane Levetan or Shorty Howell, but it's still adequate for most kids and it's kind of like being 'out in the country' without having to go out to the country. Also I've noticed that t-mobile cellphone reception is dead here. read more

This park is about 100 acres. There are the requisite baseball and soccer fields, but tucked around a the bend in a wooded area is a lake, nature trails, 2 playgrounds (including a tot lots for smaller kids) and a pavilion for things like birthday parties. This is a great place if you want to walk on the trails, feed the ducks, hang out by the lake or play on the playground, but not a great place if you want to do anything like throw or kick a ball around because there isn't much open space to do things like that. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because if you don't know where the entrance is to get to the wooded area, there is no signage. The only reason I know where the parking area for the lake is is because a guy I worked with lives near there and told me. Also, when you're walking from the parking area to the playground area, there is a TON of poison ivy. I expect things like that if I'm in the woods, but they should maybe take care of that so kids don't get into it. read more

Found this unexpected hidden gem a few weeks ago. Drove past a soccer field, tennis courts, a few empty parking lots all the way to the back where a handful of cars were parked. There was a paved trail going past a playground, gazebo & some picnic tables. Then a small area of sand & a pretty lake. One person was fishing but no one was walking, everyone stayed inside their cars - it was around lunchtime on a weekday - the lack of people gave me a creepy vibe. Really wanted to check out the trails & will definitely go back on a weekend or afternoon when more people are there. read more

This is a great place to walk. You have a short paved option and several longer yet less maintained dirt trails that go around the back. Dog friendly and sometimes very busy. I'm sure during soccer season this place is packed. The only thing wrong with this park is the absence of recycling bins. As a result their are water bottles and cans littered all over. I feel the county should provide and promote keeping their parks clean. Great place to see birds and squirrels read more

Best park in Tucker if you ask me. Sometimes I feel like taking a hike that is not along a perfectly level and paved manicured lawn. There are several parks that offer that and they are nice but what I like about this one is that you can feel like you're escaping suburbia and find peace in the woods on one of the several trails there. The paths are nicely wooded but you feel safe knowing you're actually surrounded by high end residences nestled behind the trees. Downside: This is not a good park for runners unless you like off road running bc there is no paved path or lighting at sunset. Also, there are several great trails but they are poorly marked so it is easy to get lost. The highlights include a quaint man made lake and a gentle flowing mini waterfall. My dogs love this park. This is a good park for dogs or kids. They have a shaded picnic area next to a kids play area. There is also a largo soccer field, a tennis court and a baseball field. Plenty of parking and no fee! read more

The trails are my favorite part of this park, I'll tell you why. I've done a lot of hiking and camping in national parks and forests, when you get deep into wilderness areas, there are no paved or gravel trails. Trails that are just a small foot path cut through the woods allow you to feel like you're immersed in nature. There are moments on the Henderson Park trails when you can't see or hear any parts of the adjacent neighborhoods. You're in the city, but you're in the forest. This is a powerful, tranquil, healing, meditative experience for some of us. There's a little waterfall, and a little lake, some wetlands, and a little creek. You can hike here for an hours and get some good exercise. Sun, breeze, bird song and trees. I'm not saying this is the equivalent of a national park- Zion, Great Basin, nothing like that at all. It's a cool spot of green in close proximity (if this is your neighborhood) in the city. It is often less crowded than "cooler" Atlanta area trails- some of the Chattahoochee Recreation area spots, for instance. Free parking here. read more

Yesterday, my son and I went to an event sponsered by his schoiol at Henderson park and let me tell you; the place is beautiful! We were at the lake part. It really felt like we were in the south; I loved it. My son and I looked at the people fishing and at the ducks with their families coasting on the water. We also saw people with their families on row boats. I Love Henderson Park. There were covered places to have parties and eat; many trash cans to dispose of unneeded things and space to walk but still be connected to your friends and family. read more

My son and I enjoyed the children's play ground very much. He is a week shy of being 2 years old so the lowered equipment was right up his alley. The park itself is very peaceful, but I must point out that finding the play ground can be a bit of finding a needle in a haystack. Use the address of Livsey Elementary School (4137 Livsey Rd, Tucker, GA 30084) as the entrance that says Henderson Park, right near the school's sign, takes you there. You have to drive through one or two parking lots and then around a winding road, but sure enough you'll get to it. I happened to be driving through Tucker and needed someone to take my son to kill some time so it worked for us! The ducks were out and they were nice to see too! It is a bit secluded, that is the only downside to it, but that may be my city side speaking. read more

No complaints here. Used to run the trails regularly and discovered at least 3-4 different routes. There is a big pond in the middle that creates some picture-esque scenery, and a magnificent little waterfall there as well. Lots of nice hills. Quiet getaway to visit next time you're in Dekalb County. read more

This is my neighborhood park. I have enjoyed this park for a very long time now. This park is a part of my weekly routine which leads me to the next question: DOES anyone know why there are these strange "park boundary" and "no tresspassing" signs popping up? I have walked around the lake for over 15 YEARS now and these signs are very unpeaceful in relationship to the rest of the natural environment. Does anyone know what is going on with these passive aggressive signs everywhere? :( read more

It has been about a year, since the last review, so I wanted to put in a few words. The west side of the park is soccer-field central, but also has a small garden with labeled native plants. The hidden gem is the east-side of the park with tennis courts, a large soccer field (home of Triumph soccer) that many use for dog play (PLEASE, clean up after your dogs!), then further along the road, a playground, picnic pavilion, many paved and unpaved hiking trails (map on the way down to the playground), and also a pretty lake (Lake Erin!) that does have (very shy) fish (catfish, bream, crappie, and even large-mouth bass), but also has some locals who utilize it for a doggie swimming pool. read more

I have seen the Dekalb county parks don't allow pets to swim in the lakes or be unleashed.
