Elegant. Enchanting. Timeless. Hengrave Hall will transport you to another world. This exquisitely beautiful Tudor mansion, located just north of Bury St Edmunds and in the heart of the picturesque village of Hengrave, boasts almost fifty acres of sweeping lawns and meadows, a majestic lake, and its own idyllic chapel. Hengrave Hall is where we got married & wouldn't change a thing. David & Mary have taken great pride (and time) in bringing Hengrave back to life. The rooms are beautiful and everything has been well thought out. read more

I came here for a wedding and unfortunately I forgot to let my friends who were getting married know that I was vegetarian. However even though I thought there'd be issues as I didn't mention anything. There wasn't. The catering company was superb and brought my vegetarian meals just as fast as the other meals were pouring in. This venue was beautiful as was the wedding itself. I highly recommend this place for anyone wishing to get married. read more

Enchanting house and location (for the wedding we attended in Q2 2013) for sure, but the venue is a mix of private residences and public venue this is the only explanation I can possibly imagine for the bar shutting at 11.30 and the venue itself being forcibly emptied by security staff by midnight. What I cannot explain is the appalling attitude of the staff every single one of them was rude and unhelpful and everything was too much trouble. We stayed in a barn/house on the grounds with four other couples spending £150 for each room (£750 in total for our house alone). The house itself was well appointed and smart, but the large lounge and kitchen were, in no uncertain terms, off limits. I was told bluntly that we lock the lounges up for weddings and check out was 9.15am on a Sunday morning after a wedding. Given more than 20 of us were unceremoniously dumped out into the grounds at midnight, with nowhere to go except sit on the stairs of our barns (where alcohol is banned by the way) we were at least able to get an early night and get up on time to comply with the demands to check out (including removing our cars!) by 9.15am to attend a cold cooked breakfast delivered by unsmiling staff. We did try to ask to have our lounge opened up, but there is no reception/night staff and the hotel only provides a Vodafone delivered answering service! The bridal breakfast was even disturbed by a member of staff demanding to know where my friends room key was he left it in his room instead of on the appointed hook outside the room! The hall is beautiful, the fittings and set up is top quality but they have no idea who the customer is, and this has to be the most unwelcoming place we have ever stayed. When I read reviews as bad as this, my immediate thought is that the author must have been unruly, demanding and unpleasant to create such responses from the staff none of us were. In the main the bridal party ranges mid-30s to mid-40s so we were certainly not hooligans out to wreck their lovely property, but we were made to feel so unwelcome it was unbelievable. If you want a magical day/night that you and your friends will remember, choose somewhere else. read more

History
Established in 2009.
Hengrave Hall was bought by the current owner in 2006 and the Hall and gardens were lovingly restored over the following 3 years. In 2009 Hengrave Hall was launched as a boutique, exclusive use wedding venue with 31 bedrooms. Hannah Bibby our event director was there on the day that the doors opened and continues to be responsible for the day to day running of the Hall. Since then Hengrave Hall has welcomed thousands of guests to share special memories together in this stunningly beautiful and private setting. Hengrave Hall won the regional "Best wedding venue" award in 2014 and 2013 Wedding Industry Awards having been shortlisted in 2012. This award is voted for only by couples married at the venue in the previous 12 months and recognises those businesses delivering a high quality service to their clients. We are currently shortlisted as a national finalist in the 2014 awards and are eagerly awaiting the judges decision in January 2015!

We held our wedding at Hengrave Hall on the 6th June 2013 I am still speechless! I first saw Hengrave on the internet and it was instantly my favourite but, nothing prepares you for seeing it in the flesh! 1. The venue is within easy reach of the main motorways making it simple to reach which was imperative to us as none of our guests were local to Suffolk and came as far afield as Australia to join us. 2. Hengrave itself is a beautiful village to drive through, lined with thatch cottages and you first get an inkling that the grounds of Hengrave Hall will be exquisite by the wrought iron gates and long gravel path which happily escorts guests away from the entrance itself.the impact of seeing the hall is all the more when approached on foot! 3. the venue offered something no other venue we'd viewed had. Aside from exclusive use, the entire day was spent in and around the house and its beautiful unspoilt grounds. Every other venue cost three times the price and only allowed for the ceremony to take place in the house before whisking everyone away to a marquee or similar which completely negates the point of choosing this type of venue in the first place! 4.The brides entrance.other venues we'd seen had such short aisles it almost seemed pointless in spending money on the dress, Ive never enjoyed being in the spotlight but, after you've gone to the trouble of deliberating over song choice you want to at least have the opportunity to hear more than two bars of it before you reach your fiancé! Hengrave was perfect we had the banqueting doors open and walked the full length of the stairs but, the doors can be opened at the last minute if you decided on a shorter walk. 5. We were sure we'd get rain on the day and so Hengrave was also best on offer for bad weather. The hall is SO beautiful even without decoration that no photos would have spoiled by rain and since it was the only venue where they didn't usher you backwards and forwards to a marquee we didn't have to worry about people being wet and uncomfortable but, as it was we were lucky and had blazing sunshineall the better, lawn games were already out and everyone used them infact we'd hired a live band and had a job to get people inside to dance! 6. There is a beautiful old chapel/church on site and we chose to follow our civil ceremony with a blessing. Ceremonies always seem to be over so quickly and Rev Rob Hufton is fantastic! it gave us even more photo ops and something a little different and traditional to our day. 7. The staff at Hengrave are fantastic they appear to vanish until you need help and then they were only too pleased to accommodate people. We had use of all the main house bedrooms and the outside cottages and our friends and family were only too pleased, full up with food, merry with drink and tired from dancing to retire to their roomsin the walled gardens and cottages friends stayed up chatting and drinking tea and coffee in the communal lounges until the early hours 8. the food was without fault! everyone loved the food my only complaint was there was too much of it I wont need to eat for a week!! 9. the fried breakfast the next morning was excellent, it not only tasted good but it was really lovely to get everyone together after the enjoyable day before. 10. my bridesmaid, flowergirl and I spent the night before the wedding at the venue so that we were on site early and stayed in the cottage. the staff were on hand to greet us, offered us dinner, recommended local restaurants and pubs and to the delight of my niece/flower girl picked us up on the morning of the wedding and drove us to the main house on a golf buggyshe never stopped skipping and smiling it was a pleasure to see. I have no grumbles with Hengrave Hall a thoroughly good time was had by all and even our little inperfections on the day will be remembered with perfection because of Hengrave we cant thank you enough! x read more

I had my wedding here in January and I have to say it was amazing! The team at Hengrave do such an marvellous job and their organisation on the day means you don't have to think about or worry about a thing. The Milsom team(food) were also incredible and the food was just fabulous. Hengrave Hall itself was just magical. I don't think any other venue can compare. In summary(I could go on all day about how wonderful a Hengrave wedding is but I'll try to keep this short and sweet) if you are thinking about booking this venue I would suggest you visit the lovely team at Hengrave. The photos don't do it justice. You need to go there to really see and get a feel for how beautiful it is. Take a look at Pinterest at milsom catering. You can tell I think from the photos what standard of food you will receive at your wedding. Food is a big part of a wedding and you pay a lot for it therefore you want the food to depict this. Milsom's certainly do this. If you have guests with food allergies don't worry! We had a lot of guests with allergy requirements. Each of these guest stated how lovely it was to go to a wedding where their allergies were catered for and they didn't end up just getting fruit salad for desert. They also all stated how yummy the food was! We found when looking for a wedding venue most places would only cater for a sit down meal of over 100 guest in a marquee. Hengrave actually has the long hall gallery inside the building which can cater for sit downs of over 100 guests. It is also a beautiful room ( google it to see!). No dark and dingy colours. Hengrave have the most amazing bridal suite to get ready in and not only that there is wonderful boys room too! which has a pool table, chess board, PlayStation. The boys thoroughly enjoyed this at our wedding. Hengrave also has an kids room. This again is beautifully decorated (as every room is at Hengrave) The children at our wedding really enjoyed playing with the toys and watching DVD's here. Hengrave has also a library and drawing room with comfy sofas. The older relatives really enjoyed sitting in these rooms in the evening before they went to bed. Which I thought was lovely as it meant they could enjoy more of the evening than usual! Hengrave has plenty of accommodation which is beautifully decorated( a lot with four poster beds! ). No one had to worry about taxis at the end of the night and it was lovely to all have breakfast together the morning after and get a chance to chat to everyone again! Hengrave hall is not a hotel which means everything is so pristine, beautifully decorated, and not worn! Also no one apart from the guests you have invited will be at your wedding! read more

My husband and I were married at Hengrave Hall earlier this month, and as gushing as this review will be, we can't really come close to describing how wonderful the staff were and how much they contributed to us having the best day of our lives! We visited the venue upon a recommendation and after seeing the stunning buildings and meeting the events coordinator, we couldn't imagine choosing anywhere else. Hengrave is not cheap, but unlike many things in life, in this case you get exactly what you pay for a bit of luxury on your special day! Planning was made incredibly easy, as the staff were always available to answer questions and provide information (this service was echoed on the actual day, for guests as well as the bridal party). They have several recommended suppliers, but do not push you into using them, should you prefer to use your own (NB Talbooth Catering is the sole caterer, however, they are superb and as they work so closely with Hengrave on the day, we were extremely happy to use them). Throughout the run up to the wedding, we were made to feel that everything was in place and were able to enjoy the process rather than stress over the organisation (Talbooth and Hengrave make prior contact with your suppliers and organise all on-the-day arrangements). The accommodation is extremely good. We stayed overnight in the estate cottages and barn the night before and the service offered was second to none they can provide supper if required, and breakfast was served to suit our morning plans. On the day of our wedding those guests who were staying overnight were able to check in in plenty if time to get ready, and every single one if them have commented on how beautiful the rooms were. The next day we were able to enjoy breakfast with all of our guests and it was delicious! Our own accommodation in the main house was spectacular. The Bridal Suite is extremely comfortable and luxurious. I was able to get ready in true style. The boys are not left out, as there is a fully equipped Grooms Chamber, with plenty to entertain the nervous groom while they prepare. The grounds, ceremony room and entertaining spaces were also incredibly beautiful. I cannot wait to see our photographs! I cannot recommend this venue enough! read more

My wife and I, (huzzah!) got married here last week. My guests, my wife and I had a fantastic time. The organisation and service was great. This took significant stress off myself and the wedding party. It is a unique, historic venue and anyone booking should remember that it is a grade-I listed building and a private residence. For the money, you get exclusive use of entire venue excluding private areas. Initially I had some niggling doubts as it was one of the more expensive venues and some of the rules that were asked for did seem more restrictive and quirky than other places. These were quickly banished as they are there to ensure that prospective couples get themselves well-organised, that there were no incidents and the level of service that was provided was much better than at any other generic hotel-chain style weddings that I have attended. They only allow one caterer, but considering how good they are it is not really an issue. The early checkout is not as generous as single building hotels, but it is understandable that with such a large estate that a much earlier check out time is required to attend to matters. I would suggest that if you have the time to head up the day/night before if possible and have a walk around as it is very similar to Austen's Pemberley and extra time is needed to fully appreciate the venue and not just the buildings. It is made clear from the outset that alcohol was restricted onsite and to be served via the staff and bar until 11:30pm. If you require a civilised and elegant venue that is well-organised and different then this should be very high on the list. If you want somewhere that allows rockstar tv-throwing-style buffoonery and alcohol vomit-inducing drinking games, I would suggest organising the wedding in a Travelodge next to a brewery or well-stocked pub. For technologically reliant, the mobile signal is not great as there are very few masts nearby; and wi-fi was not offered. This made coordination without the staff and their walkie-talkies a bit harder, but ensured that no annoying phone calls or surfing was happening at inopportune moments. My experience has been that if you want somewhere top-end then this surprising good value for money. read more

We got married at Hengrave on 8th October and it was just outstanding. All throughout the planning the team were very supportive and helpful, answering all sorts of (daft!) questions promptly and efficiently, and making every effort to make sure we knew what was happening and how things could be achieved. On the day itself the Hengrave guys, along with the partnered Milsom catering firm, did an amazing job putting out all our decorations exactly how we wanted them, volunteering things that they had which might make things look even better and just generally being hugely accommodating and helpful. Whenever you needed something or someone to help there was always either someone around, or just a quick call away, even helping carry luggage and my dress and helping hang things up. When you were busy enjoying the day they were always in the background making sure everything was just how you wanted but not intruding at all at any point. The breakfast the following morning was excellent as well, and brilliant to be able to have that time with your bridal party. In summary, from the first visit to Hengrave we knew it was where we wanted to get married. The team there are absolutely faultless, and as a result there simply isn't anything negative I can think to say about the experience. All our guests commented on not only the venue but also the team who were there on the day itself, and we were both blown away at the efforts made to make us feel like the most special couple in the world on our wedding day. The Hengrave team really make you feel like your wedding is their absolute top priority and we have nothing but amazing memories of the whole planning process and wedding itself. Huge thanks to Cat, Shona, Hannah and everyone else involved! read more

We had our wedding at Hengrave Hall on Friday 22 April 2016. The service from the moment we asked to view the venue back in 2014 right up until we left the morning after our wedding was fantastic. The warm and friendly staff manner makes you feel relaxed about all of your wedding planning. They are certainly experts in what they do and make sure everything is perfect for you on your big day. Hannah and the team provide expert care and attention to every element of their job. They are passionate and creative - often helping me to think of ideas i didn't even know i wanted before they showed me! The food was incredible, with so many options to chose from, we are still getting comments from guests about how great their meal was - one of my bridesmaids has even asked me to find out the recipe for her! The venue itself is simply beautiful. I do not know of any other venue like this - the impact the hall makes as you enter the drive will be special each and every time. Every tiny detail of the house, from the bedrooms to the windowsills in the main house and the unique courtyard grade is perfect. The bridal suite provided an amazing setting to get ready with my bridesmaids whilst my husband and his ushers played pool in the dedicated boys room! The chapel is stunning and provided the perfect setting for our wedding ceremony. The grounds and gardens allowed us to have some photographs. I would certainly recommend not only this venue, but the staff that are tasked with managing it and the catering providers that are included - they gave us the best day we could have wished for. read more

I was married at hengrave hall on Saturday 25th may and for anyone who can remember the day before was torrential rain but luckily the day dawned a beautiful sunny day and I knew it was going to be the best day of my life and it was. hengrave hall is the best venue in the world, in my opinion, if you want a beautiful setting and faultless service. I totally disagree with the review that complains about their treatment here, myself, husband and guests were treated like royalty and I say to any brides thinking about hengrave, Go for It! You wil not regret it. Hannah and her team at Hengrave and the Talbooth team worked together to make sure I felt like a princess at all times and nothing was too much trouble for my guests and I. When I wanted to see the long gallery all decorated whilst still in my robe, they shut all entrances off to be sure that no one got a peek at the bride before my big entrance, I felt like a film star! the church is amazing, the food sublime and the setting out of this world. I feel honoured to have had such an amazing wedding day, the memories of which will last a life time. All my guests, bar none, gushed from start to finish and without the fantastic team in the background, it would not have been the same. The following morning we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and stroll so our guests, which was fabulous and left the venue with a heavy heart that we might never return again. So thank you Hengrave and talbooth so much for everything you did for us.you really did make it the most special day of my life!x read more

Dear the team at Hengrave, We wanted to say a huge, huge thank you for making our wedding on the 18th September the day of our dreams! From the moment we arrived the night before the wedding we were treated as if there had never been another wedding at Hengrave. The bridal party enjoyed a beautiful home-cooked meal in the perfectly suited Barn and we had the most relaxing evening. Then to the morning of the wedding we cannot thank Shona, Catriona and Hannah (apologies if we missed anyone) for their absolute professionalism and kindness. From making sure the morning ran to time and helping me to get my shoes on in time, we don't know what we would have done without you! The wedding day was exactly what we had hoped and dreamed of and we just want to do it all over again - we miss the beautiful visits to the stunning Hengrave already! A special thanks to the team for making sure our Grandparents were looked after and that our Grandad was able to access all the special moments in his wheelchair. We heard that the team even ensured that they had drinks and wedding cake when they took some time in one of the beautiful quiet rooms with friends. We can't thank you enough for going the extra mile to look after our guests, it meant the world to us that they were looked after. We honestly could not rate the team and Hengrave Hall any higher - it really is the most perfect wedding venue. We were sold from the moment we drove down that amazing driveway! My wife and I had the most amazing day at Hengrave Hall and could not have asked for a better experience! The staff were absolutely fantastic both during the build up to our wedding and on the wedding day itself. There were incredibly helpful and were prepared to do anything required to help my wife and I out which allowed us to enjoy our wedding day so much more. Hannah, Catriona and Shona certainly contributed to what was a perfect day. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and whilst we were lucky enough to have great weather, many of our guests still enjoyed the fantastic rooms of the house as well as the West Terrace. Everyone was complimentary of the aesthetics and service provided and all guest rooms were maintained to an incredibly high level. The affiliation with Milsoms Hotels also meant that the food served was 5 stars with many guests declaring it the best food they have ever had at a wedding, something I would have to agree with even if I am a little bias. I cannot recommend this venue enough to anyone looking to get married. All aspects of the service are 5 star and I really could not have asked for anything more from the team and the venue itself. read more

Words won't ever be able to thank you enough for giving Marcus and I the wedding of our dreams. I cried the day we first looked around Hengrave Hall and knew instantly that we would have the most magical day there and I wasn't wrong. You were all brilliant, from the moment we booked we knew our wedding day was in the very best hands. The whole day was perfect from start to finish, and Cat and Shona who were on hand all day couldn't have been more helpful. I would like to say an extra special thank you to Cat for really making me feel at ease in the morning and for taking my shoes outside to scuff them up a little so I didn't slip over! - you really did look after me so well! Our guests all commented on how beautiful Hengrave is and how smoothly and professionally the day was run, we have even had guests tell us it's the best wedding they've ever been to. Everyone commented on how wonderful the food from Milsoms was, so a huge thank you to them too, especially Emma who did an amazing job all day. Thank you Catriona, Shona and Hannah for making our fairy tale a reality. Mr and Mrs Day xxx read more

My friend got married there in December 2012 and the house itself is beautiful, a really fantastic setting. However, there were a couple of things that I was dissatified with firstly, we stayed in one of the cottages and it wasn't particularly clean to say the least, not sure when the floors were last given a good sweep! Check out was 9:15am which I also found very bizarre. I also echo one of the previous reviews that any alcohol was to be confiscated which again, is quite strange! Personally, I felt that some of the more senior staff had an air of arrogance about them and during the evening reception it quite apparent that they were looking to clear us all out by 11:30pm! The cost to stay there was not cheap so for the money I would expect a much better service. On a last note, there are no TV's in the cottages and broadband signal is weak, not so much of an issue for us but if you have children or prefer to leave the partying to the young ones then there really isn't much in the way of entertainment if you decide to call it a night earlier than others. read more

We were married at Hengrave Hall on 19th May. I can honestly say it was the most amazing day of our lives. The venue is just stunning, people are still telling us how much they loved everything about it months on. We had many friends and family travelling from abroad and to have the extra first class accommodation on site in the shape of the walled gardens, barn and cottages made life so much easier. The venue staff could not have been more helpful both on the day and for the months before when we sent an outrageous amount of emails! Our guests we treated to first class service from the very moment they arrived on site. The transitions were seamless and we were made to feel so comfortable by both the venue staff and Milsoms that we could just relax and enjoy our day. Even the weather was sunny and warm, which in May of this year was a rarity..as I said to the staff, someone has to take the credit for it so thanks again! We could not rate Hengrave Hall highly enough. It gave us our perfect wedding and a day we and our guests will never forget. read more

We got married at Hengrave Hall in May 2017 and the team at Hengrave are quite simply amazing. Both being local to the area, when we booked Hengrave Hall for our wedding, we knew from its reputation that we would receive a very high standard of service, however, everything was even better than we could have ever expected or wished for. The church, the Hall and the grounds are all stunning, and we couldn't have wished to get married in a more beautiful venue. The team at Hengrave are fantastic. From day one, throughout the planning stage they were all so helpful, polite and prompt to respond to even the most trivial questions. The planning process was made so much easier by having a team like them to assist. On the day we couldn't have asked or wished for a better team to co-ordinate the day. Throughout the wedding process and the day, they treated our wedding day like it was just as important to them as it was to us. Hengrave Hall and their team are quite simply the best. read more

We went to Hengrave Hall for a friend's wedding and the location, wedding, rooms etc were all wonderful. My only criticism is it felt like they were treating us as children. We stayed in the barn yet they locked the kitchen so we couldn't even use it when we first arrived. They also locked the lounge room at 10pm so we couldn't use that either. When they went in to lock the doors, they also confiscated our bottles of alcohol!!!! They said they had a bad experience the previous night. This was such an important wedding for us and many people had travelled from Australia. I hadn't seen some of these people in about 10 years and when the wedding finished at 11.30pm, we couldn't even relax with a few drinks and chat. They even went as far as turning off the power to the lights, so when I woke at 4am I had to go to the toilet in the dark. I would expect this kind of attitute from a hostel but we were paying £150 per room!!! read more

I can't speak highly enough about Hengrave Hall and all their amazing staff. My husband & I got married here at the end of August and it was by far the best decision we could have made! Right from when we first signed up over 18 months ago through to now the care and attention we have been given has been second to none. No question asked has been too silly and no request has been too much to achieve. The house is beautiful and the events team that co-ordinate everything are impeccable. They really were on hand all of the day to make sure everything ran smoothly and took care of us and our guests immaculately. Only downside is that I feel as if my husband & I have made some wonderful friends in everyone at Hengrave Hall and we are not going to have the excuse to contact them so regularly now! If you are considering this venue, you will not regret it. We have some wonderful memories now to last us a lifetime. read more

Magical, a Fairytale, simply perfect. A few words that my husband and I ( and our guests) would you use to describe our special day. It is such a unique venue. From the beautiful stone chapel where we could have a catholic wedding service (where the church bells chimed as we left the church) to the stunning gardens surrounding the venue; the 1st class, professional, personalised and caring service we received from the moment we showed an interest in the venue to the moment we left the day after the wedding. The list goes on... Milsoms catering were superb. The food, exceptional. The canapés, the wedding breakfast the evening buffet. We could not fault any of it. We knew Hengrave was special when we first looked around but nothing could have prepared us for the actual day. We would do it all over again in a heart beat. The perfect start to our married life. The team at Hengrave (consisting of Hengrave and Milsoms staff) were absolutely brilliant and helped to make our wedding day perfect. From pre-wedding to the actual wedding day they were very attentive and organised to ensure the day went well! The venue is breathtakingly stunning, the various rooms, the landscape and the overnight rooms upstairs and the staff only added to make the whole experience wonderful. Many of our guests commented on how helpful and accommodating Hengrave/Milsoms staff were. Hannah in particular was a star on the day, helping with everything from putting on buttonholes and herding cats when it came to the group photos and just making sure everything went on time! Thanks to everyone at Hengrave and Milsoms for an unforgettable day! It was perfect. John and Reema #johnwedsreema read more

We had our wedding day here in February. The venue is exceptionally beautiful and we instantly fell in love. It was the first and only venue we looked at and was an extremely easy decision to make! We first met with Melissa, who ended up being our wedding coordinator throughout the planning. She was friendly and kind, and incredibly helpful at answering any questions we had. She couldn't have done enough for us and was just amazing! All of the other staff our amazing to, and on the day everybody is on hand to make sure it runs perfectly! I would definitely recommend this venue to anybody who is dreaming of a fairy tale wedding! The accommodation on site is stunning and all of our guests complimented their stay. My husband and I recently got married at Hengrave Hall, the venue itself is absolutely stunning. A guest commented that every room you entered was even more beautiful than the last. The accommodation was beautiful and well appointed. I stayed the night before in a barn on site and the bridal suite the night of the wedding and both were beautiful. And the staff I couldn't fault on the day, they were helpful, attentive and always there to help with all problems. I'll be honest I was concerned before the day about the running of the day. But those worries were wasted as the staff made sure our guests knew exactly what and when things were going on. The day ran smoothly from start to finish. Thank-you to Hannah, Shona and Cat for helping us have the perfect day. read more

On Friday 6th July 2018 we were very happily married at Hengrave Hall. This happy day was, in part, down to the extraordinary venue and its exceptional staff. Hengrave Hall is a stunning venue with everything we could have asked for, the grounds and house are so well kept and you feel like a million miles away from the real world, which is exactly what you want on your wedding day. Aside from the absolutely stunning venue steeped in history, what really made our day, was the highly attentive and superb staff. We were so fortunate to have such spectacular service where nothing was too much trouble. The team are so organised, kind and experienced it made our day a dream come true. Huge thank you. read more
