These guys replaced my roof on one of the hottest weeks of the year and they did a great job. Exceeded my expectations

I had Henkel Roofing replace my roof in 2020. At the time they seemed good however I began to have water pooling on the roof creating water damage in the house. I paid to have them come back to fix it but the problem persisted. Recently I contacted them again and they sent a guy over to look at the problem and he said he would recommend to his boss that leveling compound was needed to fix the problem. There was no follow up-no one has contacted me to address the problem. I had Brendan at CE Hopkin Roofing look at it and he disagreed with the leveling compound solution (more weight added to the roof) and outlined a different proposal that was very thorough, professional and fair. I do not recommend Henkel. I hope to be able to write a positive review for CE Hopkin when the work is complete. My experience with them so far has been exceptional and they came highly recommended by someone I trust. read more

one star is generous. this company did work at my apartment building and their workflow is to throw debris off of the roof without care. their carelessness destroyed 2 of the pepper plants on my stoop. i was unable to leave my unit without risking head trauma from the large chunks of wood being thrown from the roof all day. i collected 3 rusty nails from in front of my unit just today while walking my dog. the owner is incredibly crass and refused to address my concerns, and spoke to me in a manner that suggests he is not only sexist, but likely also homophobic. i come from a long line of contractors and know for a fact that laborers do NOT have to conduct themselves like this. read more

After choosing Henkel's bid, they left me waiting for three hours because they decided not to work on that day due to the wind. I'm totally sympathetic to not wanting to climb 36 feet up on a gusty day. However, a phone call would have been nice so I wouldn't have had to burn 2 1/2 hours of leave. This morning, they showed up, and began to set up for work, until the foreman showed up, decided that the bid was too low and that the profit they'd make wasn't worth it. He actually said, "The money your husband gave to the crew for lunch ($120) is about what we'd make today if we did this job." Then he told my wife "The ones I really feel sorry for is my crew, because they're not going to get paid." Who would say something like that to a customer? They then packed up and left. I've never dreamt that any company would do something so disgraceful and unprofessional. When I add up all the time I spent waiting for them, estimate, no show, and this morning, parking passes, lunch, etc. they're into me for $400, but at least they didn't take a job where they wouldn't make enough profit. Henkel Roofing in NW Philadelphia, PA, is A-number 1 in our book! They sent a man out right away to check on a small leak in our roof and it is already now all repaired. Henkel has been our roofing specialists since 2005, when they put a new roof on our flat-roofed house. Take it from us...do not ever buy a house with a flat roof! Had we realized the problems it causes, we would not have bought our house. Anyway, time and weather create small cracks in the coating from time to time and Henkel has always sent someone out right away to put a special coating (called "muck") on the minute cracks. Problem solved (for a few years, at least!). The really neat thing is that they never, ever charge us for this service. I think that is really amazing in this day and age, and is so very much appreciated. If you need a roof put on, you can't go wrong with this company. My rating is 5 star plus! PS... Rob was the technician Henkel sent to our house today. Very nice young man, and he paid attention to small details. I'm very happy with his work and think he deserves recognition on Yelp! read more

I contacted Henkel Roofing after they did work on my neighbor's roof. They made an appointment with me that they promptly kept. The men listened to my concerns and gave me options. When they were done, I took the opportunity to ask if they were available for another estimate for a property near by. They made a phone call and were willing to follow me to a property 2 miles away. They followed me over and took a look up on the 3rd floor roof, the Mansard roof, the area at the base of that roof, downspouts...we knew the roof was in bad condition. Unfortunately I can't remember the man's name, but he gave us an estimate with no promises. It would depend on how much rotted wood would need to be replaced and crunching the numbers with the dimensions they took. The office manager kept in contact with us via e-mail and a formal proposal was sent. The contract was detailed with the process and product to be installed. She answered our questions and if she could not, forwarded our questions/concerns to the owner. He promptly responded too. We selected a shingle color and proceeded with hiring Henkel Roofing to perform the work. They sent an e-mail and left a voice mail to keep us in the loop as to a start date. The date was scheduled. For four consecutive days the crew showed up early and stayed till after sunset to get as much work done as possible. They kept a clean and safe site. They performed the work as the contract outlined. One concern took one phone call to the office and was addressed and resolved in under 10 minutes. The office manager called us back to confirm that the issue was addressed. In the end, the owner came to the property to assess the work, talk to us about two details that we questioned. He resolved both with in hours. We are very pleased with their work. Let it rain! read more

We had a few roof leaks at our house, and we ended up getting 5 quotes. All roofers, including henkel stated that the roof was at the end of its useful life. 2 most expensive roofers in area gave high quotes, and wouldn't repair the roof. Henkel and the other roofers in the area agreed that the roof was at the end of its life, however, it was not in terrible condition and they quoted to both repair and replace the roof. The other 3 quotes were within 5% to both repair the roof and replace the roof, so I would conclude that Henkel's prices are perfectly reasonable. In comparing the 3 similar quotes, Paul answered several of my questions both through email and through a phone call. I ended up picking Henkel Roofing to repair our main flat roof, and a smaller shared porch flat roof at our house. They emailed me the following Wednesday, stating that if the weather was clear, they would perform the work Thursday. They informed me on thursday and friday, that due to weather they would have to postpone. Not hearing otherwise, we went away on Saturday, and they performed the repairs on Saturday, which was the first clear weather day, which would have been great had I been home. They talked to our neighbor, who told them about our leaks, and they performed the repairs. When we got home Saturday night, we noticed that on the small flat roof that some repairs were made, but not over where one of the leaks was. On Monday, I emailed Henkel that they missed a trouble area, and that had we been informed, we would have been home to direct the roofers. On Tuesday morning, a roof crew was at our house, and repaired the trouble areas, even a trouble area on our neighbors portion of the shared roof (with permission) no questions asked. After all the repairs, after 2 days of rain, I can say we are leak free. So overall, although their communication could have been better, they repaired our roof, for the reasonable price quoted, and when I asked them to come back, they did it no questions asked. They answered all my questions, and for a small job ($900) they didn't require payment until the work was performed. I would definitely call them again. (4.5 stars if I could, happy, just wish they would have communicated better) read more

I would prefer to give them ZERO stars. Henkels Roofing is working on a neighbors roof for the past 3 days. Their 2 trucks, a silver van and black dump truck have blocked my street completely for 3 days. When asked to move for passing traffic, they use obscene language and gestures. Their foreman is nowhere to be found and the laborers do not speak English. Yesterday, when I politely asked if they could move their trucks, after 20 minutes the foreman cursed and ignored me. They have severely damaged other neighbors properties. And ignored requests to clean up the mess they made. They start their job at ridiculously early hours and work at an extremely high decibel levels, without any courtesies for the neighbors. Ironically, I need to get some work done for my roof....I WILL NEVER EVEN CONSIDER HENKELS ROOFING !!! Not even for an estimate. I am counting down the hours until these inconsiderate, rude, irresponsible, and illegal laborers are done. read more

Had Henkel roofing do thousands of dollars worth of new roofs/downspouts. Critical downspout has come loose for the 2nd time, and they refuse to return my calls for 5 days. I've never had this poor service in the 35 years I've owned property. I wonder whether they're still there in business. read more

Overpriced, unskilled, sexist, and unreliable. The men are incredibly sexist, called me babe and treated me like an inferior idiot due to my gender. They will never take responsibility for leaks in their guaranteed work, so do not expect them to hold up their guarantee. They take a long time to do the work and it is not done well. THIS PLACE IS A TOTAL SCAM DO NOT CALL THEM. My husband and I bought our house in manayunk two years ago. Our roof is three years old but seemed to develop a small leak where the chimney was. We had one guy come out before Henkel who stated that our roof looked great but did have a small crack where the chimney was. He quoted us $350 to fix it. We got another estimate from Henkel. The Henkel employees said the same thing As the first guy- roof was in good condition but there was some leaks around the chimney. We also did not tell Henkel employees what the first company said and quoted us. Henkel Gave us an estimate a day later for $5800- stating that we needed a whole new roof. Please remember that when we bought our house two years ago our inspector confirmed our roof was new and in good condition, the first guy who came Our said the same thing, as did henkels own employees! But for some reason the owner decided to take advantage of the situation and lied saying we needed a new roof and asked for thousands of dollars. We decided to get one more estimate from another company- the leak cost us $150 to fix and guess what??!! He also confirmed we didn't need a new roof! COMPANY IS A SCAM AND LIERS PLEASE DO NOT CALL THEM AND GET ANOTHER ESTIMATE. read more

I called Henkel Roofing on 2 occasions to have them come out and give me an estimate on my leaky roof. A woman answered, ask what the issue was, took my name and address and said she would have the roofer call me back by the next day and each time no one called me back I don't know why she did this twice, but after the second time, I started to get the feeling that they are "screening" people in some type of way. Henkel roofing just completed our main roof and gazebo. They were very polite, unobtrusive and got everything done in a timely manner. Joe Henkel and Danielle from the main office were very communicative and even though we had to keep rescheduling because of needing at least a three day window they were great. No mess left and they moved/ covered two plants so they wouldn't get damaged. They started early (7.30 a.m.) and left each day by about 3.30/4.00. They advised us of options for rotted wood etc and we were left with an amazingly well done roof in both cases. I looked at the reviews others wrote. It took us about a week to schedule the original visit and then a further five days for an emailed estimate. All the people on our crews spoke English so not sure about that either. read more

I would also prefer to give them 0 stars. They came to my house last year and put a coating on my roof. I started to see a leak in my ceiling, called them to come back and take a look. They never called to say that they were coming to look at my house and all they left was a voicemail saying I needed a new roof and the estimate was $3200. Basically, they ripped me off. They knew I needed a roof last year but they thought they get more money out of me by coating and I'd come back this year for a new roof. I wanted basic maintenance on my roof - seal the seams, check the flashing, etc. I contacted several other roofing companies - each wanted to do something different, and the prices varied wildly, but none of them addressed my suggestion of just sealing the seams. Henkel roofing showed up promptly once I called, gave by far the lowest quote, did exactly what I asked them to do, and left the property in great condition. Further they gave me good advice regarding future maintenance: I was considering adding a reflective coating to the roof, they quoted on it and could have easily talked me into it, but instead suggested I wait a few years to get the maximum value out of it. My neighbor had his roof replaced by Henkel. They started by waking up the neighborhood yelling (often including obscenities) ,banging materials , and blocking traffic on the street for the entire day so the trash could not be picked up. When they woke me up, I immediately smelled cigarette smoke and saw that the woman roofer was smoking right below my window. As I opened the door to ask her to move, she was putting her cigarette out in my flower pot. After two days of unacceptable noise and chaos with the street blocked and a huge mess all over the area, they finally left. I immediately noticed that they had disconnected my cable wireand left it hanging over the sidewalk with the end wrapped around my electric box. I also noticed that my drainpipe (between my neighbor's pipe and my cable wire) was dented in many places from the materials they were hauling up on pulleys. I called and the secretary told me they would come and fix the damage that day. They did not.. The next day I called two more times, as did the neighbor who had hired them. Late in the day, I received a phone call from a 'Mr. Henkel.' He was literally screaming into the phone that I was not to call their number again. After screaming at me for several minutes, he slammed down the phone without allowing me to speak. They came the next day (two days after leaving my wire dangling) and rehung it, but refuse to do anytthing about the drainpipe. This company's negatives outweigh the positives. Besides everything the post above me stated, they were doing work on my parents neighbors roof, where the houses all run down hill. So one of the roofers knockecd on my mothers door and told her she needed a new roof, from what they could see where they were working. Funny thing is the house they were working on is about 15 to 20 ft lower than my parents.How could they possibly see my parents roof at the height they were at. It's almost like someone standing on the ground looking up at the top of your house and saying, "Hey, u really need a new roof!! ' Best part is then they go into the truck and pull out a bunch polaroid pics of damaged roofs and say, this is what it looks like. My parents have lived in that house since 1972 and never once had a problem with the roof, my father always maintained it. Since Henkel replaced the roof 3 1/2 yrs ago it has leaked a total of 6 times, same spot every time. They do send their guys out right away, but each time they do nothing but patch around the area where it leaks inside. Not only did they pay a good amount of money for this poor job, but have to continually get the interior work done as well. Maybe at one time this company and its employees took pride in their work and customer satisfaction. Basicialy just another company looking to take advantage of older people who have worked their whole life and going in for the kill.Don't let their homepage fool ya! I had a very bad experience with this company and I wasn't even a customer. They got dirt and tar on 2 vehicles, 1 being my white SUV which had black dirt, tar spots and smudges, and wouldn't own up to it. I wanted to be responsible and tried cleaning the vehicle myself. The black dirt came off but the black spots and smudges didn't, so I called the same day (sunday) and left a message stating that they got debris and tar on 2 vehicles (both parked in my rear driveway) and was trying to clean it off with no success and that I was heading to the auto parts store the next day to buy some cleaning products to rectify the situation. No one called me back, so on Tuesday I called again. Danielle answerd, I informed her of my situation and asked to speak to the owner or a manager. She said none are available and states she received my message and asked the workers if they covered both vehicle and they said yes. I asked so because they said yes you decided not to call me back? She gave the same answer. I told her they didn't cover the cars because if they did I wouldn't have this problem. She just said "send me pictures and I will talk to Mr henkel. I send the pics wednesday morning and Danielle calls me back within minutes. She stated that they didn't cause the problem because they don't use that product...... what product, Tar? Here is why that statement doesn't make sense.... 1) how can you tell what product it is from a picture? 2) You are prepping a preinstalled roof for work and are disturbing whatever is up there, including dirt and old tar. 3) a roofing company that doesn't use tar? Or is it that they use blue or red or maybe some other fancy rainbow colored sealer/ coating?... I asked to speak to the owner or a manager again. Danielle states she is in charge of the workers and is also the company treasurer (and the secretary as well I guess ). She said "although we didn't cause the problem we can send someone over to clean the car because it's not a big deal or I can call my homeowners insurance and have them contact henkel roofing. Didn't cause the problem? The pictures clearly shows the tar and debris and one picture even has an extension ladder setup right next to both vehicles with their work van parked in the rear of the property and both cars not covered. she wouldn't acknowledge this pic or the alleged false statement that the workers made and focused on the other pics stating they didn't cause the problem and that one picture shown something that looks like bird poop. So after a few more minutes of trying to explain to her that all I had was a complaint, and now a concern about their company practices and customer service approach and that I had bought my own product and took time out of my day to clean the car and Danielle constantly cutting me off I realized I wasn't getting anywhere and stated that. She replied with a sarcastic "yeah you aren't going to get anywhere...... wow!!!! She states again so you want me to send someone to wash your car and the bird poop so i can close this case or what. I told her no, as I already stated, I bought some product and cleaned it myself. This company is one of the worse. Not only did they disregard me as a possible future client but also lacks the intelectuality to grasp the concept that I was raising a point of concern not seeking some sort of compensation. Maybe I should of gotten both cars professionally detailed and hired a lawyer, maybe then they won't do the same to someone else. read more
