I've been meaning to visit Portobello for some time, so when I was invited for dinner one warm summers night, I read a few shining reviews on Yelp and committed myself to a 30 minute drive to New Port. Port Adelaide has a cool mix of modern and historic elements that I find very intriguing, Portebello is situated at the New Port area with new modern apartments and townhouses. It's been a long time since I've visited, and as your driving along there are helpful little signs on the road that points out where Portobello is with a recommended parking area. A short but picturesque walk along the marina and there it is! Nice and easy. My first impressions were wow - what a cool hidden gem! We were seated out the front where we overlooked the beautiful views out the marina. Despite the cool location, it was quiet - very quiet. I imagine this being a great precinct one day if there was more people to add to the vibe but for us it was nice and intimate. Service gets the thumbs up for me too, as soon as I sat down a friendly attentive staff asked if I wanted a drink. They had decent drinks prices at $6 for a crown lager and $5 for base spirits - great views and cold beer in hand what more could you want? The menu was all very tempting, between our group we ordered the vegetarian pizza, crab linguine and haloumi and prawn salad. According to everyone, the food was delicious and they cater to a friend who was on a gluten free diet. And if your lucky like we were, you can see dolphins frolicking in the water in front of you! An end to a very beautiful night!

A great all round experience. My favourite part was the…read morepresentation and creativity of their dishes. Interesting, pretty, inviting and you can see that actual thought was given rather than just plopping it on the plate. I was in a group of 7. The service was fast, efficient and friendly. Staff took the time to chat and smile, share their story of where they were from over taking your order or cracking your pepper! Everyone's food looked delicious. I order the chicken Mediterranean. The saltiness of the mash overpowered the delicate flavours of the apricot and stuffing, but it was still a good meal. Chicken was tender and I had the happy feeling at the end. All that counts right? Lol Save room for desserts and coffee. They have a nice selection. The tiramisu is a good size to share with a friend. Go on....get your romance on. Hope you find time to drop in.

And what a delight... quickly seated without reservation, we outset a Bruschetta for entree and Scaloppine Funghi and Vegetarian Stack. My partner and I went halves and we were in for a surprise! Treat yourselves to a delight, The Mediterranean Delight!

My husband grew up in Detroit, Michigan, USA which has The largest Middle Eastern population,…read morespecifically Lebanese, outside of the Middle East. It was with him that I went to lunch a few days ago. We arrived just after noon on a Saturday and we're surprised to be the only patrons! We are seated, quickly given menus, water, and allowed adequate time to review the menu. Our server was the son of the proprietor and he was such a delight! You could tell how proud he is of his Lebanese heritage and regaled up with a few stories of Houda, his grandmother and the restaurant's namesake. In addition he helped guide some of our dining choices and we were not disappointed! Houda's serves up tasty, flavourful, and generous portions. We had so much food left over that we had another meal the next day!

Amazingly authentic Lebanese food, friendly staff and really nice restaurant. The only thing that…read morelet the place down was the speed of the service... The food wasn't too warm when it arrived at our table... Was really yummy though. The zaartar bread was to die for and the lahm (lamb on a stick) was yummmmm! Would have been a 5/5 if the food was hot! Great food tho would come back (hopefully next time the food comes out hot!) The atmosphere was nice too, they had Lebanese music playing in the background and it seemed like an environment that would be child friendly. Nice and quiet too so you can have a conversation without having to yell.

Picture neighborhood elders solving the world's problems across a table of Greek coffee and sweets…read more- arms being thrown up in the air with much flailing of the hands in animated exchange. Smile-worthy stuff. It sets the scene for this modest eatery in the very un-Greek suburb of Hawthorn, in the very un-restaurant-like location of being attached to a Caltex. "Oils ain't oils" as they say, so if you want the good oil on this joint look toward it's picture board - a wall of photos capturing characters who have wined and dined and wined here before. It gives further insight into the humble and fun nature of the place. Smiling Chef Sam Antoniou is found in the kitchen with parents Toula and Peter. They all wield cheeky senses of humour, upping the enjoyment ante of your visit. Ultimately you've come for their food. The best way to tackle it in these family-type digs is to hoard some friends around an Astros banquet. The "Apollo" includes chicken yiros and calamari; adventure into the "Poseidon" and tiropites (cheese triangles), lamb yiros and whitebait await; or brace yourself for the "Zeus" and be further fortified with Greek sausages and prawns. There's a takeaway menu, outdoor tables and car parks at that Caltex. Plonk wise it's licensed but the corkage too is a little cheeky so perhaps play "when in Rome" or Greece as it were with the wine list and try some vino tipples from the homeland.

The setting is suburban to the max and. as Roz said it's very un-glamorously attached to a servo. In true Australian-Greek style, all the mains are served with chips and Pita which are delicious, but they very obligingly leave either, or both off for me if I ask . I suffer from the eat-everything-on-your-plate disease so I sometimes do this to save myself from mostrous serves. This means I'm left to tackle the chicken breast as big as my head and generous salad, which to be honest is probably more than I can handle in itself! They do a bunch of my Greek faves... whitebait, saganaki, meatballs, kalamari and a bunch of others as entrees or mezze. The mains boast every type of souvlaki or yiros, along with moussaka, mix grill, selection of fish, prawns, or even quail.
