Each cemetery is unique in its own way and has special history. Of them all, I have always wanted to tour this form a race track turn cemetery because I've passed it as a child over the years. What's rather interesting is, very few companies offer tours of the Metairie cemetery. Most are focused on Lafayette or St. Louis. Lucky for us, New Orleans tours offers tours of the cemetery on a daily basis. Shelia went out of her way to accommodate our schedule, and even was nice enough to bring us cold bottles of water which was just what we needed on a rather hot day. We spent some time reviewing several tombstones including the one of the former owner of the cemetery. It should come as no surprise that former N.O. Saints owner Tom Benson is buried there along with the likes of Al Copeland, Anne Rice's husband, WCC Claiborne and heirs of Dowman, Dwyer and Kiefer. I also have the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful fallen angel sculptures and some pretty amazing stained glass. I highly recommend New Orleans tours and will most definitely take another with Shelia during another visit.

We were able to walk down every street and she could not only tell us about the building design, she was also able to tell us a story of every house we asked about. She could answer any question we had about anything on every street we walked down. She has a background as a former architect. This really showed as she could point out small details I feel most tour guides would not be able to do. We had a absolutely wonderful time with Sheila. I hear she also gives tours of some of the local cemeteries so we will be looking and requesting for specifically her.

So when we were planning a family trip recently, I remembered that and I was amazed to see that she was still in business and offering the same tour. I immediately signed all seven of us up. We were fortunate enough to go on the tour on a gorgeous spring day when it was warm enough for many bayou alligators to come out. We were also fortunate that Isabelle herself happened to be our tour guide/driver. So it's not surprising that we had a wonderful experience. But to me, the most impressive thing is that Isabelle has managed to keep her company going for 46 years through very tough times like Katrina in 2005 and then the disastrous Covid era. Now that I've finally met her, I think I see how she has survived. First, she has SO much in-depth knowledge of the area based on her experience, intellect, and personal connections. Second, she's warm and approachable (see attached photo), even posting her phone number on her toursbyisabelle.com website. Finally, there's a core of inner strength and decency - so all in all, I believe that this remarkable woman represents the best in American entrepreneurship.

Seems like there are several options for swamp tours but THIS is the one I highly recommend, and so happy I ended up with. As a solo traveler, I booked this one mainly because I was seeking hotel pick-up and a help with securing a small group airboat booking. Glad I did it- I received texts prior and day-of to ensure I was clear on pick-up and logistics. Driver was Dexter who was efficient with pick-up of all those in our group. Upon arrival, everything went smoothly with check-in (getting waivers signed, assigning you to specific airboats via kitschy-sounding "boarding pass" names). These guys are pros for sure, and "family-owned" you can tell throughout the establishment and workings (including their house cat who roams the premises, ha!) We were able to survey the shop/merch, decor, and had fangirl moment when we encountered the founder, Randy, who was so kind and happily took photos with us. The tour itself was so fun/exciting. You get it all- history of the swamp (including flora/fauna), Q&A re: alligators, alligator sightings, high-speed airboat treks, list goes on. Our operator was Dalton who was AMAZING. SO engaging, sweet, funny, and just so great with our eclectic group from all over the country. Highly recommended. More details/photos with the specific operator here: https://yelp.to/ce1lfFCbUo

She came across like an overly dramatic theater kid who couldn't dial it back. Her mannerisms and constant theatrics were cringey, and while maybe one or two stories had potential, the delivery completely ruined them. She would randomly go off on personal tangents (where she lives, her parents, and other irrelevant details) that had absolutely nothing to do with ghosts or vampires and added nothing to the experience. The worst part was her points system, where she'd give out points if people followed instructions or answered questions. For example, when we stayed on the sidewalk instead of walking in the street, she'd shout "10 points!" and point at each person while repeating it. It wasn't quirky or fun, it was just annoying. I wouldn't recommend this tour based on her alone. After our awful experience we tried another company called Nola Ghost Riders and I'd highly recommend them. They are located at the Voodoo Lounge off Decatur St, while French Quarter Phantoms is at Voodoo Lounge off Rampart St.

His top priority is safety and courtesy to other tour groups. We were a small group, about 10. Compared to 30-40 people that we saw that were doing walking tours. His insights and knowledge was very informative but also he sounded scripted. If you were to interrupt him for a questions, and he doesnt know... he might just tell you that not all tour guides know everything instead of telling you, "I don't know." The passion that this man has for his tours is intense. He talks alot. Talks a bit fast, but has a lot of good information. Just be prepared to listen. Walk for 2 hrs. Bring comfortable walking shoes. And enjoy the tour. Definitely a must do in New Orleans, walking tour!
