Bill telling details of Laura's family in one of the courtyards we visited
    Lorrie C.

This is the 2nd time I've taken this tour. Bill was the guide both times (the 1st was 3 years ago) And it was a great walk and tour to visit again. Bill is such a knowledgeable and enjoyable guide. He makes the world of the French Quarter during the 19th century come alive . He answers questions and involves you in understanding the world it used to be, that this family inhabited.

We found Le Monde Creole via Yelp and it didn't disappoint. What I really liked was that much of the tour took place in quiet, out of the way spots. Our tour organizer did an excellent job presenting an overview of New Orleans, cultural fun facts and the story about the Creole family. It was fun ducking into beautiful courtyards and hearing stories that took me back to another time.

I highly recommend this tour! It was a fantastic way to get introduced to the French Quarter and learn a lot about the history of New Orleans. Bill K was our tour guide. (His last name was Germanic and I have trouble remembering the spelling.) Bill is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge that you won't get bored of. Not only was he great at telling the history of New Orleans, he has a real love of history that really comes through when he speaks. Keep in mind that he is able to do this with a group of people in 90+ degree weather. In fact, he is such a nice guy we had lunch with him right after the tour where we learned even more! The tour takes you through some of the more noted areas of the French Quarter, including courtyards (you can't see these from any of the streets, old homes, the cemetery where a Vodou Priestess lies, and my personal favorite the Pharmacy Museum. All in all, the tour is a fantastic buy and really gives you your money's worth. In fact, Bill mentioned that he could make the tour 5 to 6 hours long, and you know what, if he offered a tour that long, I'd take it.

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to be the only two on the tour which made for a very personable experience. We had an awesome time, just wear comfortable shoes because the walking tour will last a while. The woman leading the tour was very friendly and knowledgable, and guided us through a side of the French quarter we never would have seen if we had not taken this tour. We had the opportunity to go into private courtyards and learn a great deal about the history behind each one, as well as a quick tour through St. Louis cemetery where we saw the grave of Madame Laveau (and Nicholas Cage's future grave, no, I'm not joking). I'm always one to try and avoid the "touristy" stuff on any trip, but I honestly had a really great time, swallow your travelers pride and check out some beautiful courtyards!

Our tour guide, Bill, was a treasure trove of knowledge about the history of Louisiana and New Orleans. He especially provided insights into the rich texture of the life of notable Creole woman, Laura Locoul, the namesake of Laura Plantation near Vacherie, LA. Through her story, Bill wove information about the Civil War, slavery, and other historical events. A well-worth tour about New Orleans and the Old South from which it grew.

We meet up at the Voodoo Lounge, where there is a ticket office in the back room. We didn't live the bar--smelled a little bit like a sewer and the hurricanes were super sweet and kind of weak. But we did have but one get one, so wasn't that upset. The tour was great. We saw some interesting, haunted places and heard the history behind them. We didn't linger too long at any one place. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny, although he may have been a tad bit too heavy on the Catholic Church jokes. The tour ended at the LaLaurie house, and our guide shared a story about a little girl on who was recently on his tour who started crying and asked why there were dead people on the balcony. Spooky! I was so intrigued by what he said that I started looking up stories about Delphine LaLaurie and the haunting of the house. When I got home, I even started watching season 3 of American Horror Story, which has the character Delphine LaLaurie (accurate? No. Fun? Yes!). This was a fun way to spend the evening. There was an obnoxiously drunk guy on our tour, and our guide handled him well.

She came across like an overly dramatic theater kid who couldn't dial it back. Her mannerisms and constant theatrics were cringey, and while maybe one or two stories had potential, the delivery completely ruined them. She would randomly go off on personal tangents (where she lives, her parents, and other irrelevant details) that had absolutely nothing to do with ghosts or vampires and added nothing to the experience. The worst part was her points system, where she'd give out points if people followed instructions or answered questions. For example, when we stayed on the sidewalk instead of walking in the street, she'd shout "10 points!" and point at each person while repeating it. It wasn't quirky or fun, it was just annoying. I wouldn't recommend this tour based on her alone. After our awful experience we tried another company called Nola Ghost Riders and I'd highly recommend them. They are located at the Voodoo Lounge off Decatur St, while French Quarter Phantoms is at Voodoo Lounge off Rampart St.

Date of tour: December 21, 2024…read more After a wonderful food tour in Prague last year, we wanted to replicate the magic stateside while visiting New Orleans, a city with a rich food history and scene. As requested, I will keep the individual location names secret as to not spoil your potential food tour but also because the stops can change and I don't want to have you disappointed if you don't get the same places on your tour. Ty was a great guide, providing us with local history and culture as we ate our way down Magazine Street. The only complaint I have is that they didn't really interact with us during the food portions, standing or sitting off to the side, or running to the next location to make sure we were all set. To me, the guide should be not only the bridge between the locations and food with us, but also a bridge between the different groups on the tour. Ty told us before the tour started that the other folks joining us were from Michigan, but we found out from them later that they were actually from New York. Had these connections been made earlier, it would have enhanced the tour. On to the food, wonderful that it all was! Please note that I may make some errors in the actual names of the food, while I took pictures, I did not write down the names and there wasn't a post-tour recap to assist me! Stop #1: A local sandwich and a seafood side. Both quite good, especially since I don't like olives! Stop #2: An unusual meat that was shockingly good! Stop #3: Seafood options. I've had a different version of one of these items in Asheville, NC. This wasn't quite as good but still tasty. Stop #4: Southern favorites that were so good! I didn't think I would like these but I did. Stop #5: A peppermint fudge cupcake. Sadly, the weakest stop on the tour. Other that tried the gelato came away disappointed and my cupcake was neither overly fudgey or pepperminty. It looked pretty, though!

There is a wonderful narrator letting you know when you pass interesting sites. The Domino Sugar factory that you pass is really something to see, and it's hard to believe it's still in use. They make a stop at the Chalmette Battlefield (you can get off the boat or stay and relax on the boat). There is a tour guide who talks about the battleground, which is pretty interesting. The best thing about the Creole Queen is the narrator. After the battlefield, the second half of the tour focuses on Hurricane Katrina. He wants that it can be disturbing and announced that if you didn't want to hear it, you can go to the dining room, as it isn't broadcasted in there. He is very candid, and I learned so much about the terrible way Hurricane Katrina was handled, as well as just how terrible the hurricane was. It was very, very sad. I highly recommend this tour.
