Their appointment and cashiering system was down when I went so they could only process cash. Despite this inconvenience the staff seemed to be doing everything they could to help customers who had appointments. Like other reviews have said they certainly like to turn away walk-ins and give out any reason they can think of to get rid of you and send you to a different location. I only saw them use a max of 3 service windows even though they have 19. There are certainly better DMV's/Service Centers out there, but ultimately it's the government so you can't get your hopes up to high. read more

While the wait was annoying (couldn't get an appointment within the ten day title transfer window), what struck me was the service. Ten employees seated at their respective windows, but only four working with customers. When it was my turn (74 minutes after checking in), the woman who helped me was considerably rude. People are rude. Service can literally take all day. 20 stations only 2 were serving people with about 75 people waiting. Two of the workers were chatting about their weekend for 20 minutes before calling a number. Total incompetence. read more

The Maple Grove Service Center is awful. A buddy of mine passed away and I sold his snowmobile and trailer for his widow. I went to the Maple Grove location to transfer the trailer title and snowmobile registration to the new owners. I was told we needed an appointment and could not complete the transactions. We ended up driving to Monticello!!!. The transactions took 15 minutes tops. What does Hennepin County need a facility with dozens of service windows only to have 3 open and taking appointments? As a Hennepin County tax payer this situation was very embarrassing. The two new owners of the trailer and snowmobile could not believe this Service Center was so poorly managed making appointment only service. I would have selected a rating lower than one, but it was not available. read more

I discovered that my driver's license had expired yesterday. I went early this morning arriving at the Hennepin County Service Center in Maple Grove 10 minutes after they opened. I was scared by the large sign outside that said By Appointment Only. I went in the door anyway and found out that they were also taking walk ins between those with appointments. My number in the "no appointment" line was 13 and it took a total of an hour till I was done. I would highly recommend getting an appointment well ahead of when you need to go in for something. I looked at the appointment schedule and there were none till 1 1/2 months from now. Plan ahead and you will be very glad you did. If you do need to get in sooner, plan to get there very early. The first people today got there at 7:20 AM and the place opened at 8:00 AM. All things considered, getting there at 8:10 AM, I didn't do too bad. One more concern and reason for getting an appointment is that if you don't have one, you stand out in the hall till your number is called and then you get a new number and get to sit ( thankfully) till you are called up. Once called up to the counter, the agent was very pleasant as was the person who was at the registration desk. read more

I can confirm what Tiffany L. said in her review. I had all of the documents needed for RealID according to the state list of documents, including a court order for a name change since I had one done. Only one of my documents had the old name on it but they insisted that it had to be in my new name, unlike what the state list specifies. If that's the case, why do I even need the court order when all of the documentation I have proving my identity is under my legal name? I had also gone in to get tabs and decided it wasn't worth the struggle, so told them to just get me my tabs and I'd leave. He kept unhelpfully saying "I'm just trying to help, do you want to talk to my boss." I had told him about 5 times, "No, just give me my tabs and let me leave". TERRIBLE SERVICE!! Rude front desk person, for some reason these people forget they work for the people but seem to want to work against you as much as possible. They talk down to use as if they aren't working at a DMV, this is their career choice but this lame idea they are the keeper of your license or your future is sad and pathetic. It seems like the check-in staff goes OUT OF THEIR WAY to be less than friendly. It's not like anyone enjoys waiting an hour to comply with government requirements, but the staff here seems to have had the life sucked out of them. They really need double the staff and train in customer service - but I guess if you don't have any competition, you don't have to have to be positive. It's completely disheartening to have an hr wait with the waiting area full, and then see staff go on break with no one replacing them. Everyone needs breaks. But this place NEEDS MORE STAFF. I went to get my drivers license renewed and as the state is flipping to RealID, I had researched what I needed to bring prior to showing up. When I told the check-in attendant what I was there for and showed her my pre-registration, she started going through the checklist of additional documentation I would need. Even though my name was consistent on my documentation, she was adamant I would not able to get a real is without my birth certificate and marriage license. I showed her the state list of documents needed to get the realID and was told even though HCSC did business with the state, they were not employed by the state, thus had different requirements. Since it was going to be a long wait, I told her I'd just get the regular license - then texted my husband to bring the birth certificate and marriage license...which I did NOT need when it came time to actually get my license renewed since my documents all had the same name in them. It would have been better had she said "you may need your birth certificate and marriage license as our office may require more documentation than the state says is required." I'd recommend the drive to Buffalo for the same services - those guys are great - very friendly and always someone available to help. It's worth the hour round trip to avoid the disgruntled staff at HCSC-MG. read more

The staff are very professional, If you have to wait it's because of the funding cuts that were imposed a few years ago. The staff has nothing to do with how many are available to help you, that's a function of how much money is available. You vote for the party who promises lower tax rates, you get lower service so don't complain if you have to wait. read more

I got to the service center at 3:35 and was told I might not get in because they closed at 4:00. I decided to take my chances but did not get my tabs. I understand at some point you have to draw the line but was disgusted to see a number of the employees "decide" they weren't going to take any more customers at about 3:50. One gal in particular was so obvious. Could have taken at least two more customers for tabs. read more

Compared to other hennepin co service centers this location is the best. Its clean, employees are friendly and polite. I especially like that there is natural sunlight. I have always gone first thing in the morning and have never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes, compared to the hour and a half i have had to wait in minneapolis centers. read more

I have never encountered a more rude front desk than this one! Not only were the two women we dealt with outright nasty in responding to us they could not even bother to offer suggestions on what to do to solve a problem they caused by providing erroneous information. Resolved the matter at the Delano DMV office in less than 20 minutes with a clerk who was friendly, helpful and the best part there was no waiting. We will NOT be using the Maple Grove office in the future for ANYTHING! read more

I was here on 4/27/2018, there were a lot of people here and the wait was not to bad ( about 20 minutes)but let me tell you the guy working at counter 6 around 2:30 p.m. could use some lessons on customer service, he was very rude and disrespectful. I went there on a Monday afternoon and experienced about an hour wait time just to get License tabs. I understand the wait but this is the first time I've ever had to pay a fee ($3.41) to use a debit card. If I had known that ahead of time, I would've written a check. This place is a joke! It took 3 visits just to get a vehicle title transferred. The additional two visits were due to the Hennepin County Service Center Staff. I called and spoke with staff to confirm exactly what I needed to bring to them to transfer the title from the trustee of my Aunt's estate to myself. I brought everything. They asked for additional items when I got there. I brought the additional items and AGAIN they asked me for one additional new form (1 month later and through the mail!!) that I needed to have the trustee sign. I did that. It then took them an additional 2 MONTHS to mail me the new title. If it wasn't such a painful experience, it would be laughable. read more
