Cardiologists and support staff were so good at making sure we understood the seriousness and treatment options of the condition. In Feb, the GRS staff and nursing care was again, top notch. Would recommend to anyone seeking trans care. I had a heart transplant at Henry Ford and was in the hospital for six months. The transplant team in the fifth floor cardiac ICU team was amazing. They continue to monitor me and make sure that my heart is not rejecting. Of course, there are irritating things. The hospital is ancient and dated. Parking is horrible right now due to construction, which is a way of life in Michigan at the end of the day, it is a great hospital for advanced heart failure. Highly recommend. read more

Had to blood drawn for surgery this Friday. Last Wednesday I went to 12 Mile/little Mack location and the girl Who drew my blood rude and seemed very rushed, even though there was no one waiting ...anywhere. I told her the best place to get blood (I'm 66 and have had blood drawn many many times and I'm a 45+ year phlebotomist). She went to the opposite arm and this is the result. Was in for minor surgery. Rather than showing the incisions used to get into my chest cavity, I chose to show pictures of food. In my 2 hospital days, I had 5 meals and was satisfied with the quality and would rate the food 4 stars. Nursing care in pre- op, surgery and my room nurse was caring and professional. They explained and kept me updated on procedures and my progress. The surgeon and his staff were using their expertise with the latest technology for cancer. I was impressed. I am Yelping for a one Dr. Nolan Hayden, MD that is a resident at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. I had to have a paracentisis procedure done and he perform the procedure under rhe watchful eye of his Attending Dr, Thomas Keimog, MD. Hadens Attending he did it "no better than I could do it" There is a point in the procedure where you will feel a deep zap feeling. I waited for it and never felt it. He did fantastically! I'm not one to leave reviews but I signed up here just to warn everyone. Horrible hospital. First of all stinks of piss. Came in for heart issue, was sent to an "emergency" bay... No vitals taken for 30 full minutes. Heart issue shaking cold sweat and you don't even want to take my blood pressure and bpm? Followed by 3.5 hours of pure waiting inside near the rest of the patients. Bed "rooms" are just sheets and thin walls, you're like 2 feet from the hallway at all times, makes for a very uncomfortable experience in an emergency. Usually overfilled with beds in the hallways. Practically no contact with nurses for hours despite pain. Curtains shut don't talk to me is the vibe. Second or third time coming here for a heart emergency over the years due to proximity and it is the same every time and worse every time. I can complain about facilities all day but no vitals for half an hour to an hour after entry feels like malpractice. In other hospitals it is your vitals upon entry that determine how long before you are seen. read more

It has bee two days since calling them (three times) and leaving messages,,,ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE has been received, I am currently on hold as I am writing this for the past 90 minutes. My sister is a patient at the hospital in Wyandotte in the ICU. The care team there needs to transfer her to another facility. They would have preferred the main hospital, because it's closer to our home in Southgate. The ICU at Henry Ford in Detroit refused to accept her as a patient! We now have no choice, but for her to be sent to Detroit Receiving, which is further away. We cannot understand why this Hospital is being so unkind to my family at a time like this. Wyandotte ICU has been amazing. We would expect the same from its sister hospital. Their ER is also not recommended. We had taken my sister to Henry Ford Main ER once, and the wait time was so long that we had to take her somewhere else. read more

My daughter's podiatrist gave a referral to the neurology department for autonomic neuropathy. It's been 2 months of repeated phone calls to them to schedule this appointment. They say they never got the referral. The podiatry office says they have called and sent it over and over. I have faxed it myself too. I've always liked this health system and see majority of providers here. Most of the medical staff (doctors/nurses/lab techs) are great and provide excellent care. Office managers in a lot of locations seem to be on a power trip. Have had some bad experiences with newer providers so hesitant to seek out anymore if needed. It was way better before when you could call the direct office a physician worked in. The switch to a generic call center has lead to a LOT of problems while trying to schedule appointments. An employee should know the doctor's they are scheduling for. This helps place a patient with the right person. This entire rebranding thing.... it seems as though the health system is starting to behave the way for profit hospitals work- where a patient is treated like a number vs a patient. Even your physicians are having issues with this. Listen to them and your patients. The old way of doing things worked just fine. read more

The Hospital Staff was great. I had to get robotic assisted lung surgery and of course didn't feel very good. They were great, I am so thankful to have found these good people in Detroit of all places. The problem was parking. Where did they find these animals to park cars? let me guess DETROIT ! Didn't mind the $10 Parking but, my A/C went out and wasn't working. It was a nice day about 75 degrees. Had to go back out to the car, was surprised they started the car and left it idling. I shut the car off after they started it since I was on fumes from getting there. I went to roll down the window after my procedure was done and it didnt work. It worked fine when I went back out the 1st time. I am sure it made the person parking cars mad that I shut it off but there was no cool air from A/C. I might not have shut it off if I wasn't so sick and tired from driving for hours. I could just see some animal holding the window up switch intending to ruin it. As I said the Hospital was great but Henry Ford should screen Parking Employees better. Since they don't have any experience doing anything but parking cars you should know who you are dealing with and hiring. read more

I wanted to give an understanding review of an overwhelmed ER whose staff is fighting to give good service while fighting being burned out and too many patients because of the idiots that refuse to be vaccinated or even wear masks. Because of these idiots who either don't care about others or there brains refuse to listen to real science instead of their political side, the rest of us with serious medical problems suffer. I was called by my doctor when I was eating supper in the cafeteria after a doctor appointment with a specialist. She had ordered blood work that afternoon and I did it before the appointment. The lab called her to tell her my sodium level was dangerous low!!! I was ordered to the ER for another test of it and if it was confirmed, to be treated over night. I could die if this was correct and not treated in a hospital. I was quickly seen but since I was stable, I was sent to a hallway to sit in a chair to wait for a doctor to look at me. I was given an EKG in the intake part before that. There was about 15 others with 1 nurse and 1doctor trying to order tests and treat. NO BEDS were available and all of us looked stable enough to sit in chairs. It took them over 2 1/2 hours to have me tested. Another gentleman across from me had been sent to the ER by a specialist since his blood pressure was 80 over 50 ! In normal time, all of us would have been in a bed in ER and quickly treated. When my test came back just out of the dangerous level, I was sent home at 9:30. The EKG wasn't read until the next morning and it came back abnormal. Why the 5 stars after that experience, the staff and the system they set up are trying their best and it is not there fault that too many in America are failing them. While I was there, the ones who could barely sit up got help quickly. That male nurse was caring and tried to give individual service. If you think those who refuse to be vaccinated or wear a mask and fight for their children to not wear them will not effect those of us who are vaccinated and wear mask, you are wrong. If you need emergency care, you won't get it or have to wait hours. My problem is this is the second trip to an ER for this problem in 6 weeks. If I need a hospital bed, will it be there? read more

The absolute worst care possible. My mother has been sitting in the HF Macomb emergency room for ten hours so far and there's 25 more just like her here. Absolutely zero patients have been taken back for care in the last three hours. When I asked the staff if they can give an ETA for her to get looked at, they said no - ER policy prevents that. Total BS. The best care they could give these patients tonight is to tell them we can't help you, do that they can get care somewhere else. Surgery was botched by Dr. Wu and ENT. She did the same to another patient earlier that morning of August 29th 2024. We both had to go to emergency for internal bleeding hours after she discharged us. We were told by Dr. Oslin the on call Ent we would not be on the hook for her incompetence. We then received a bill for 15k extra for the Er visit. Avoid this hospital network and doctors. Zero accountability and a phoney grievance process where they do not even respond to the complaint. It's all profit and no care. Filed a secondary grievance and they claimed it was never received. read more

It took me a month to schedule a colonoscopy and endoscopy. It's a shame that every other service, including payment collection, miraculously happens in HFHS myChart, but scheduling, lord forbid. Got to play phone tag and deal with incorrect phone numbers and every other human error. I'm only back in Detroit for a year or so to help my elderly parents so I've been fortunate not to deal with the poor Detroit metro services in every aspect of daily living for the 25 years I've been gone. HFHS is behind other health systems nationally as well. I schedule my appointments in myChart at other health systems even if they are tentative and require staff to confirm. At least, I can initiate the process and do everything electronically. Scheduling can be automated for almost every service. THIS is ridiculous HF. read more

Since Henry Ford took over my doctor's practice from Ascension there has been a clear negative change in the treatment of patients as customers. The takeover was more than a year ago and staff still complains that "the new system" is the cause of long waits, dropped phone calls, messages not getting to doctors, and slowdowns in service that are requiring appointments being rescheduled by more than a month. It took me a week to get a referral (or rather "referral order", as I was corrected) to a local ENT, instead of one affiliated with Henry Ford. When I complained to the office's practice manager that the nearest Henry Ford ENT was 200 miles away and that I couldn't drive due to dizziness, she said she "didn't care", that all the other health systems made it hard to use outside doctors because they "had to make a profit"! Complaints to Herry Ford fall on deaf ears, with them blaming the doctor's office and vice-versa. Henry Ford, please listen to and treat patients as customers, and not profit sources. read more

BEWARE- unsafe place for Elderly. I'm completely disgusted with this hospital. You literally should be ashamed of yourselves. My 79 year old father comes in to have a FN biopsy and after the procedure as he is about to return home, he texted his children to say he was out of surgery and that he would call us after he was home and rested. However, he was unable to call or get that rest because his phone was stolen. He set it down while getting into the wheelchair and forgot to grab it. Duhhh, I'm quite sure he was still groggy from anesthesia. When he called to the hospital he was told they had it, but then given the run around on when to pick it up. Then all of a sudden it's mysteriously gone. I HATE THE WAY YOU DUMB ASS HOSPITALS TREAT VUNERABLE POPULATIONS OF PEOPLE. SHAME ON YOU!!!! I HOPE TO GOD YOU GET EVERYTHING COMING TO YOU FOR BEING DISGUSTING. To start off, my review does not reflect the care of the patient in question. The patient was my cousin, who was more like a much older sister than a cousin. We had also became very close friends. Her illness was very fast progressing, and she was under the care of Henry Ford Hospital, first at the Wyandotte, MI location, then at main campus on W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit. The nurses and Drs. were great. The problem is that my cousin passed away this morning, April 28, 2025, and NO ONE called to let me know. I called the Hospice Dept. around 3:00pm to check in to see how my cousin was doing today, because no one had called, as they usually did. I was put on hold, only to be told she died around 5:30 am; almost ten hours before my phone call!!!!! I am sooo angry, I can't even cry right now!! read more

My boyfriend had an accident many years ago and was finally able to get back surgery here yesterday. He is Deaf. HF provided an interpreter from 6am-4p yesterday and another interpreter was provided this morning at 6am. That's the only good thing that has happened since arriving here. My boyfriend woke up from surgery and was sent to recovery around 1:30p yesterday. He finally got a room at 8:40p. The beds in recovery are not equipped for someone, especially with back surgery, to be laid upon for that many hours. One person from the surgical team came to talk to him soon after arriving in recovery, but my boyfriend was still groggy and not quite awake to have a good conversation. We asked someone to come buy later so he could properly ask about the surgery and what was actually done. The recovery nurse tried to contact the Neuro Doctor on staff for 5 to 6 hours to have him explain the surgery, and he only finally came by right before he was transported to B5. He would not give my bf anything for pain other that a very small dose of Norco (which he has a high tolerance of due to living with back pain for many years). My boyfriends pain had gotten out of control soon after arriving to recovery and was never taken care of til even now. His bp has been very high (which he normally doesn't have) due to the pain? He has not rested at all...he sat in a chair all night because he couldn't get up and down from the bed without excruciating pain. The 3rd shift nurse didn't seem to know how to help or what to do. She did call the doctor to get some pain meds, but they did not help. At all. I basically took care of him because we couldn't get anyone to help us. I was his interpreter as well (until 6am this morning). He was brought to a CT scan this morning and the transporter was rude and hit every bump on the way there and back, without care. Many people on staff here look miserable and they seem overworked and under staffed. We couldn't even get anyone to bring us water until several hours after arriving to B5. I used to work at a large Michigan hospital and I can clearly see that this HF location is a place we will never go again. The surgeon did a good job with my boyfriends mom and uncle in the past...they had no problems. We are shocked at how bad my bf has been treated here. It's shameful. He's treated like he is a burden. We would have left late last night, but that would jeopardize insurance paying, so we were forced to stay. I called for a patient advocate and the message said they would get in touch in 1 business day, so I'm assuming we will be gone by then (hopefully). Update-OT came in this morning and helped so much. The new RN is great too. Finally getting some much needed help. read more

Came here on 12/2/2022 for an all day living organ donor evaluation. Literally ALL DAY- from 7:30am- 4:30pm. The hospital is super easy to find, conveniently located right off the Lodge 10 freeway on West Grand Blvd. They have garage parking, which can be validated or free parking in front of the main entrance. Tons of parking in free area, as that's where I parked. While here for my 9 hour day I had the pleasure of meeting the entire living organ donor team, a total of 9 people. They consisted of the surgeons, social worked, psychologists, nurses, medical doctors and a handful of others on the team. Each and every single one of them was welcoming, professional and patient, as I sent approximately an hour with each person. They listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions throughly. It was a LONG day, I'm glad I was able to have a support person with me which was my 13 year old daughter. She was super awesome keeping me company. Plus, all the entire donor team was very engaging with her- I appreciated that the most. I've been communicating with my donor advocate Emily since June, when this process began. She's amazing! She's been so supportive this entire process, which has been a half a year in the works. I cannot thank her enough for everything she has done for me, not only my advocate- but along the way became a friend. My gratitude for her has no words. While here the entire day, my daughter and I got a 30 minute lunch break. I truly wanted to just take a nap, but both of us were starving. We were both given $5 vouchers to eat in the cafeteria, which was awesome. The cafeteria had tons of items to choose from including gran and go items, cooks making hot food and a grill with burgers, fries and chicken. Their was hot soups, salads and tons of snacks and beverages. Daughter was happy with her sandwich and fries and I got 2 super fresh garden salads. Our vouchers paid for everything we got, so the prices were super cheap for a good lunch. At the end of my meetings with the entire donor team, I was sent to X-Ray for pictures of my chest and abdomen. From there I was send to get a complete cat scan. Both the technicians where very welcoming and friendly. I was exhausted by then, and I appreciated their compassion. I couldn't have had a better experience for something that wasn't/isn't required. My intent was to donate my kidney anonymously. Fast forward Tuesday 12/6/2022. My cat scan revealed that my right kidney has 3 arteries, they one they wanted to take. My left kidney has 2 arteries. Most people only have 1 artery to each kidney. 10% of people have 2 arteries, and only 1% of people have 3 arteries. This coupled with the fact that I have sepsis just less than 2 years ago, ruled me out for donation. It's unfortunate because all my test these last 6 months have proved that I'm one of the healthiest people alive. But my risk factor with so many arteries makes the doctors worry for my health. I don't regret all the time and effort put into this experience. If it would have worked out, it would/could have been life changing for someone. read more

I live less than a mile away from HF Main Campus in Detroit. They used to be the best. Then they became a hedge fund about 5 years ago. Now they overbook appointments, the parking is a nightmare, they are understaffed, and they try to turn patients around as fast as possible. It is not the fault of the medical staff. So, now I drive all the way to Dearborn to go to small Corwell facilities, to be treated like a human. I needed a cardiologist back in December, I couldn't get an appointment until mid February with Henry Ford. Within 2 days, I was able to change my PCP to someone in Dearborn, and he got me into a cardiologist in early January. I wore a heart monitor for 2 weeks and already had my followup, diagnosis and medication by the time I would have seen the HF cardiologist. I even forgot that I had an appointment with a HF cardiologist in mid February, so they charged me $100 for a no-show. They suck. read more
