This is one of my and my family's favorite places to eat while in DC. We are from the West Coast and stumbled upon Henry's on our last visit, which happened to be last month. Erin remembered me from last month and welcomed me by making me feel like a part of the family. Her kindness, smile, and patience are second to none. The first time I went to Henry's, I had what seemed to me like so many questions, but she answered all of them. She even recommended selections that did not disappoint. We had the smothered turkey wings and pork chops last time in addition to the fish and chicken. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos, but I made sure to take photos this time. We only ordered fish and chicken this time, along with banana pudding. I also want to give a shout-out to our server Renata for always getting our order perfect. Greens good but too salty. Turkey wings were good. Pork chops were ok. I prefer pork loin chops than pork loin sirloin chops (little bone) . That gravy from chops very good. I found Henry's while in the area after I did a quick search for soul food. I arrived inside and was greeted by the staff. I was adamant about trying the fried chicken but after asking about the meatloaf she said it was their number one seller so I went for that with my 2 sides being mashed potatoes and gravy and collard greens. They had sample sweet potato pies and a shelf of other desserts to purchase so I purchased a slice of sweet potato pie. The meal also came with a cornbread and was ready in under 5 minutes. The portion was very reasonable and matched the price ($13 for everything including dessert). The food was very good and flavorful. Being from the south I'm used to the gravy being tomato-based and red but I wasn't mad at the brown gravy of choice. The potatoes and greens were also very good! The sweet potato pie was a bit too sweet and I ended up not being able to eat much of it. The restaurant isn't very big but was very clean. I'd definitely recommend and would return to try something new when in the area. read more

The food is pretty ok, but this location continues to have a major customer service issues. (See my review on their other Yelp page. ) I came in a placed an order for fried catfish, collard greens and potato salad. I paid for it with a credit card and went to sit in my car as I waited. I returned 15 minutes later, and there was a long line of people in there - all impatiently waiting like me. So after another 10 minutes, they started to roll out orders (no apologies, no complimentary snacks for the wait, no discounts, etc) At about the point that I had been waiting 30 minutes, they started calling orders placed after mine with similar food items. So I asked the cashier about my food. She had a slight attitude but came back an essentially told me that the order is missing. Ok, after being "hangry" for about 40 minutes, I requested a refund. An older lady from the back came out to process the refund, but the credit card machine had a glitch so I had to wait about 10 more minutes for her to call someone else, and another and another. In the end, I just demanded that they refund me cash, and handle the business baphoonery on their own watch. They did, and I'll never go back. read more

We decided to come here for this barbecue Sunday because Oohs & Ah's was closed. We typed in barbecue and this was like four blocks away. There isn't much of a storefront but inside there's a super extensive soul food menu. They have some serious desserts but we decided to go overboard on entrées for our first time. The sweet tea is the best sweet tea I've ever had in my entire life, hands-down. We got four platters and all the servings were ginormous. You get to pick a meat and two sides for each meal and we ended up choosing mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, collard greens, corn stuffing, candied yams, and potato salad. All of the sides impressed, but the candied yams stood out as the best I've ever had. The Mac n cheese was a little on the dry side for my taste, but still delicious. I always pass by this place and have wanted to give it a try, after all, I love some good ol' soul food. I will also consider giving this place another star the next time I go there and try something new. My friend really liked his meal (Smothered 1/2 Chicken with Fried Okra & Mashed Potatoes) he gave this place 4 stars. This place has large portions! This is a hole in the wall location; however, you will be shocked at how many items are on their menu! They have options for a main entree, two sides, and a choice of dinner rolls or cornbread for a mad decent price. There are also so many different selections for sides that all looked very tasty and eventually, I will have tried all of them. I ordered a Country Fried Steak, with Mac & Cheese and Mashed Potatoes. Clearly, I'm a fan of carbs. I also got 5 wings with their special hot sauce as another "side" (I was famished). I'll start by reviewing their wings. I really enjoyed these buffalo wings with special hot sauce! The sauce had a major kick & the wings were seasoned just perfectly. At first I was bummed because they didn't have Bleu Cheese (they only serve Ranch), but honestly I didn't even end up dipping my wings into any sauce ~ they were that good! The entree - I should've known better than to get Country Fried Steak! I'm very picky when it comes to that food item because I only like it with white gravy & I get slightly disappointed when places use brown gravy. The mashed potatoes with gravy were just fine. I wasn't a big fan of the Mac & Cheese - it was too try for my taste, so i'll steer clear of that next time. Everything was packaged nicely though so perfect for walking down a couple blocks with, without worrying about the condition of your food by the time you get back. Me and hubby stopped in after an appointment in DC and Henry's did not disappoint. We ordered fried Whiting, rice and Gravy, string beans ( for me) and cabbage (for the hubs). Finally a soul food joint that KNOWS how to cook cabbage properly. It was still green and had just the right bite, seasoned lightly with a little salt and butter. It was dated so good that I went back for a vegetable plate of 2 orders of cabbage and a Mac and Cheese to take back home. The rice and gravy wasn't the worst but it was not to my liking. The rice tasted parboiled and the gravy needed more flavor. We both ordered a Peach Cobbler after the lady at the counter (who was very friendly and personable) showed us that it had real crust in it. I could also tell that the peaches were spiced nicely (before I tasted it) based on the color of them. (cinnamon, nutmeg, maybe a little vanilla). It was the "real deal" just like she told us. Quality remains the same. So glad Henry's is back. The new space design is welcomed. Clean and new. Great experience ordering and eating. Meatloaf was minimal and certainly not the best but completely edible nevertheless. Gravy could use more seasoning. Sides were out of this world. Cornbread Muffin is great. Very disappointing beef ribs - huge bones and very little meat (fatty prices around the ends of the ribs but not enough to make a small burger). Sides were great(collard greens and stuffing) and banana pudding off the chart but lack of meat means probably not going back. read more

In the past they often seemed to be closed at weird hours or they weren't serving breakfast when I wanted to get some eggs, though since they've renovated it's much brighter inside and stands out on the street more. I wish I came here sooner. I ordered the salmon cakes with rice plus fried okra and mac and cheese on the side, plus corn bread. Everything tasted great, not too greasy or heavy. Super cheap too considering the quality and portions. It took a few minutes to get my food even though there weren't may people coming in, but that's a small complaint. I've tried the rib dinner from Ohhs & Ahhs but it was super disappointing so i didn't know what to expect when going to Henry's. So glad I went because the food is absolutely delicious. This was the absolute worst experience I've had at a eating establishment. I ordered food for myself and office online because no one was available to answer the phone. When I got to the restaurant I was excited because I was not only hungry but my food was already done! I got back to the office and it went downhill from there. No ones order was correct. Meal #1. Rice to gravy ratio was about 10:1. Meal #2. Had so many bones in it, that it was almost difficult to eat, also the order was greens and coleslaw. She received two coleslaws. When I called to complain I was told that was the order. However you cannot select 2 of the same sides online, you have to put it in notations. Meal #3 the corn looked as if it was made weeks ago and reheated that morning. As if the food was not disappointing enough when I called to let someone know, the woman who said she was the manager "Renata" was absolutely nasty. At the end of it all I told her I would just return my food. All but one out of the 4 meals were thrown away because we were so turned off by the quality of service the appetite was gone. I will never be eating at this location again! read more
