We had a very bad experience. Our appointment was at 11:15 AM, and we arrived a bit early. I never expected to be called before our appointment time. Minutes went by, and we were still waiting, patiently, until 11:45 AM. I noticed that they were calling other patients who arrived later than us. I started to wonder and asked the staff what was going on, why we weren't being called, and why they called other patients who came later than us. The response I received was that he didn't know. We were finally called at almost 12 noon, and I asked the staff what was happening; she said to ask the doctor. We were in the room, and we prepared our 93-year-old patient to lie on the bed to get ready for changing his SP tubing. The doctor went into the room and was mad that I had approached his staff to ask a question. He brought a paper showing me what he did for other patients, and that was not my business in the first place. Then he decided not to do the SP change, left the patient half-naked, and told me to look for another doctor. This showed how unprofessional he was to us and his attitude. Dr. Hyman had an attitude even before when I first met him. The only thing we were waiting for was at least the courtesy of being told to wait because the doctor was assisting another patient who needed to be seen first. We would understand, but none of them said anything, and the doctor did not say anything nice. Instead, he came in with an attitude. He really had the nerve.

Getting an appointment in the first place means waiting months, and when you try to call, you're met with an automated system that offers little help. When I did need assistance, staff largely seemed indifferent to patient concerns, and I was even directed to the wrong office on one occasion. The medical talent is here -- but talent alone doesn't make a well-run practice. Patients deserve both excellent care and the basic courtesy of being treated as a priority. Nobody on the staff acknowledged me in any way, although they did see me. I stood there with my paperwork for a few minutes, but eventually just sat down. I waited until 20 minutes after my appointment (that would be 8:50). During this time, nobody had acknowledged me (nor the other patient who came in after me), nobody asked for my paperwork, nobody took my insurance card. Nobody spoke to me or acknowledged my existence in any way. At 8:50, I approached the desk and said, "Excuse me. I have an 8:30 appointment and it looks like it's not happening. I need to leave." One of the girls glanced up and said, "Oh the doctor isn't here yet." (Gosh, don't you think that's something you would communicate to the patient?) "He's probably still doing his rounds at the hospital." That's all well and good, and I understand that things happen and doctors are delayed. But usually there is some communication with the patient in these instances. And it still didn't explain why they hadn't gotten started on my paperwork, taken my insurance card or, I don't know, even said hello to me, 20 minutes past my appointment time.
