I've been attempting to use this place since I was eighteen, and every single appointment has been a nightmare. I tried getting an IUD placed to control my periods and endometriosis when I was 18. They canceled by phone call AS I WAS ON MY WAY IN for the procedure because they "forgot" I was allergic to latex, and so could not clean the room. I tried filling my birth control prescription there in my 20s. The doctor gave me attitude, told me I was on the wrong pills, and tried to switch me to another style. When I checked with a different gynecologist at another office, the pills she tried to switch me to would have caused debilitating migraines and not managed my endometriosis! Later in my 20s, I gave up going when they simply would not update my insurance information, swearing up and down that I was on Medi-Cal, despite my providing the brand new valid insurance card from my work AND a letter of cancellation from Medi-Cal. I am now 36 and found a lump. I am already freaked out. I should have known better than to trust them, but they could see me fast and without having to go through my insurance. My appointment was over an hour late, the "doctor" couldn't find the obvious lump until I showed it to her, and they lied about the cost, charging me past double what I had been quoted and assured of. I would not be surprised if this place got shut down for being a scam. I'd expect this level of cruelty and incompetence from one of those fake crisis pregnancy centers. Eighteen years of rudeness and time wasting. Shame on me for ever trying to give them another chance. Shame on them for such all-around failure. read more

Usually when I come here I have no issues but today they were extremely behind. I had a phone appointment to be able to just come in and get the services I need faster than normal. When scheduling my appt they asked to please not be late. My appt was made for 3:30. I get here right at 3:30 and I literally don't get to the window until 4:00 to check in. I don't understand why they scheduled so many people at the same time if they can't handle it. Please don't ask me to not be late and then make me wait 30 mins just to check in. Not including the time it took to actually be see and get my service. read more

Entire staff behind the scenes is made up of the salt of the earth. Whomever is in charge of hiring there is doing a great job. A lot of intra-staff teaching was happening during my appointment, and the teachers were showing those learning a lot of grace all while still being effective. Although the set up behind the scenes seemed to be well organized, the internal waiting area portion of the appointment was a bit brutal because of the state a lot of us were in--experiencing 1000 & 1 emotions all while feeling so tired from early pregnancy, cold, thirsty, hungry, and mostly naked. Fortunately the staff is very aware of how cold it is and frequently offered to bring us warm scratchy blankets. What could help is having a second doctor performing procedures, but we all know PP is up against a lot in regard to having enough funding. They're doing their best. Didn't give 5 stars because the way the front desk communicates needs some work. I'm an incredibly patient person, and I was yesterday, until my driver and I realized that when we was asked to wait before checking in, we were expected to "stand in line" in a waiting area where there was nobody else waiting for a good while except for a few scattered, sitting in chairs. My driver and I sat right in front of the front desk until they were ready for us. As over 30 minutes passed we started seeing everyone getting checked in upon arrival. I started getting anxious and stood in what was an actual line at that time. When it was my turn I asked if I was allowed to check in now, and that is when I was informed that I needed to "stand in line" when I was initially asked to wait to check in. I guess that meant just stand in front of the front desk. No idea why I wasn't asked to approach the window during the extended amount of time that I sat there or simply just asked to wait there at the front desk window. Now this sounds dramatic to me as I type it because I'm not even a person that complains about getting the wrong order at a restaurant. But that kind of appointment is so difficult to attend that this little miscommunication was literally the spilled milk for me. And I wasn't able to continue to contain my 1002 feelings. Upon arrival to clinic, the receptionists were very helpful and understanding. The ambience I felt was warm and pleasant. Transitioning from the waiting room to be assisted I had the pleasure of being assisted by Fatima, one of the nurses. When taken to the room to go over basic questioning and understanding of my purpose of being at the clinic. Fatima was very patient and understanding. She gave me the run down of what certain screenings entailed and what is expected. She made my first time being there a little easier to handle, instead of feeling anxiety. With having a hard time with needles she provided reassurance that I was in good hands and that it would be fast and easy. I asked for the purpose of my well being if she can just ease into the process by talking to me and she did just that. I didn't feel the needle nor realized it was over quickly. She was very helpful and I would definitely recommend having her be my nurse again. read more

Professionally run facility by people who care. Arrive early before your appointment time, like another reviewer mentioned, the line can take a while before you get your paperwork, also they will turn away people and reschedule if they are late as spots fill up. Please respect your appointment time and do your best to show up either fifteen minutes early or right on time. Also news flash this location is in a pretty busy area and if your appointment is before 10am I can almost promise your commute is going to take at least 20 to 30 minutes longer than you think, so leave plenty early. There's a bunch of parking in the shared parking lot, it's the commuting time that's going to delay you on a weekday, don't underestimate traffic even if you are only 15 minutes away. They are pretty accurate with their wait estimates or how long to expect the window to be from start to finish. They provide all sorts of different services and care options for all walks of life. This is a reliable quality company for all. Expert tips: - Wear crocs or slides (something on the looser side without laces), comfortable loose broken in clothing nothing fancy. Maybe it's that super comfortable cotton oversized T shirt that's been washed 50 times, or a size larger of a waffle jogger pant. A pair of clean underwear to change into later if you're extra hygienic (optional). Bralette, broken in sports bra, something comfortable that does not hinder your body from relaxing. I know most bras are inherently uncomfortable, so go braless if need be. But all I'm saying is it might help to leave that ill fitted bra that cuts in and hurts at home and opt for the one that makes it easier to relax in. Thank me later on the fit recommendations. In conclusion, this isn't the place to come looking cute in restrictive or skimpy clothing, I mean you do you but I'm just making some suggestions to help make the visit more enjoyable. - Bring a book to read as there can be waits otherwise be at the mercy of more mind numbing screen time on the phone or tv as entertainment while you wait (trust me, this gets old real fast, books are nice for doctors offices imo). - Write down a list of questions to ask your provider (be it the nurse, physician, doctor, etc everyone there is helpful and knowledgeable), they are happy to help answer and discuss as many questions and concerns, but I think it's important to write down questions because with how busy life gets, it can be easy to forget a simple important personal question(s). - Makeup- I love makeup, wear it daily no matter if I'm wfh and no one sees me or out in public. I will say on doctor visit / clinic days I personally opt to just focus on skincare and maybe a touch of concealer, sweep on some powder and curl a lash, but that's it. It's kind of like being on a plane full of makeup, it can get uncomfortable and crusty (this is all my personal experience) and so I've learned to just do minimal makeup and more skincare and it is more comfortable for these situations. Again, queen you do you, but I'm just sharing my creature comforts in case anyone is seeking out some guidance for comfort. Like anything in life you don't have to take my advice or anyone's advice for that matter. - Lastly, prep your home as best as you can a day or so before your visit. Aftercare is important, it could be emotionally or physically exhausting after having a personal moment no matter how big or small. Coming home to a comfortable, tidy, clean environment with your favorite water bottle all cleaned and ready to be filled, ice tray full of freshly frozen ice cubes, your favorite veggies (cucumber, cabbage, carrots, etc) and dips homemade hummus, peanut butter, and other nutrient rich tasty foods can be a great way to jump start your self love recovery at home. Wiping down a few countertops and vacuuming can do wonders for our health and happiness. Hope all of that helps, everyone deserves proper care and treatment and our world should not be full of have and have nots. Everyone should have access to programs like planned parenthood. Planned parenthood provides a whole range of services not only abortions, so don't get all judgy and ignorant about abortions as it truly isn't anyone's business to tell any person what they can or cannot do with their body. Came in on a Tuesday. It feels like this place works like a walk-in regardless of whether you have an appointment or not. The whole process from check in to the time I left took 2.2 hours and I would say I spent 1.8 hours waiting to be called in, and I had an appointment. Maybe they're understaffed? The girls were so kind! I had gone to get a contraceptive removal and they had notified me it was okay (I had mentioned to them that I had a specific brand) and for that brand it was good for eight years. A few minutes after I left I had realized I got the brand mixed up and I was due for removal. I went back right away and told them that I just had an appointment but had a question. They let me back in and after I explained everything they still serviced me almost immediately. I had told them that I get anxious about physical pain, and they eased my nerves and reassured me. Let's face it ladies.. we all have vay jay-jays and we have to take care of them. Plain and simple. I'm not shy to talk about it. It's a dirty, dirty world and someone has to keep it clean. And be honest.. some of us don't necessarily have health insurance and are blessed to have non-profit organizations help them out. It's not a fun trip.. hey, we aren't throwing a party here... and in fact, can be a bit awkward with protesters outside and females awaiting possible doom in the waiting room, but again: it has to be done. And men, you aren't left out because Planned Parenthood gives men health care as well; so get those wee wees checked for STDs. The Van Nuys location may cause you to be weary due to it's "ghetto" location but it is clean, modern, and bright inside. Schedule an appointment because you will surely have a wait and try to get it as close to 7-8am as possible to be done quicker. Bring a book although there are magazines and a TV plastered to E! so you can watch news about the Olsen Twins and Lindsay Lohan before your checkup. The employees are super polite here and make you feel very comfortable. I haven't met ONE female that enjoys putting their legs into stir-ups and having a stranger lube them up but the staff here makes sure you are comfortable, relaxed, and let you know "it's just a body part". Honestly, as awkward as is it; it's quick and painless. Plus, they hook you up! Free condoms, birth control, pills for any STD you may have, pills for other illnesses (they discovered I was anemic from my blood work and gave me the required iron pills), and Plan B pills. Work it, girl! Plus, not to be controversial; but I am pro-choice and they perform both pill and surgical abortions here. I saw a room full of scared girls attached to IVs which their clothes locked in lockers not knowing their fates. Yet, the procedure is done quickly, FDA-approved and they don't remember a thing if they choose to be knocked out from those funny gases. All women should have this choice. Again, it can be a wait but isn't your reproductive organ worth that much? Great location and organization. PS. The Christian-endorsed pamphlets the protesters outside give you are recyclable.
