Enrolled my preschool age daughters for 2024-2025 school year. Nightmare experience. Preschool Director is lacking in both competence and integrity. The P5 teacher Jennifer is exactly the same but hides behind the director. Encouraged my family to seek an IEP solely as a means to kick my kindergarten age daughters out. Tried to circumvent the IEP process by trying to reach out to the care team to gain a recommendation that supported their goal of kicking my kid out. When that failed the principal lied about what the care team recommended. Bullied, harassed, and finally attempted to blackmail my family into voluntarily pulling my kid out in the last few months of the school year. This behavior started escalating the day of our IEP assessment and ended in a forced reduction of service before any accommodation request was made. This was after a glowing assessment of my daughter's growth. When I made a complaint about discrimination against the Preschool Director they declined to investigate without so much as a call to discuss my concerns. read more

We have 2 kids attending HCA and are so incredibly happy with the academics and love that is shown to our kids. The staff truly cares about our kids. Our daughter is excited to go to school everyday! I was a previous student here during covid. Besides the fact that they didn't correctly follow the covid precautions and kids were constantly getting covid, it was just a horrible school overall. The school textbooks were racist towards chinese people, and they handed out booklets saying misogynistc and stereotypical things such as "Girls talk more and boys are more hyper." The teachers and students were homophobic, and also said things like "Dress your gender, men shouldn't wear high heels." If your looking for an accepting community, definetly don't choose this school. The students in my class were also lacking compared to the public school kids. The curriculum was very old-fashioned, having you do a lot of memorization and stuff of the like. The teachers never paid attention to the kids at recess. There was a kid who was bullied and chased around and hit with sticks, and called names. The dress code was very strict, especially towards girls. You would get in trouble for small things such as not wearing white tights. The teacher was unkind towards other religions and said rude and disrespectful things about them. She also said threatning things such as "If you don't pray everyday, the devil will open your door and get you." The booklets said things like "God created MAN and WOMAN." The teacher also shouted that at the end of year assembly, being transphobic towards enbys. The bible study book wasn't purely about the religion but also embraced views others might not share such as don't have sex before marriage. read more

Both of my kids attend Heritage, and it has such an amazing family feel. After school, my kids play on the playground with the other kids each day while the parents hang out and watch them. We don't have much family here, so it's nice to have our little village. Reading a couple reviews on here truly shocked me because that's definitely not the school feel here. The principal and the former principal are both fabulous, and the teachers genuinely care about their students. My son would need an IEP in public school, but he has so much support and a smaller class size. When he was having a rough week, his teacher even sent me updates throughout each day to reassure me. She also gave him alternative activities when he was struggling to sit still. I love that he can have his kick band and fidget toys if he needs them, and he gets plenty of recess, which is so important. I should add that I am a teacher and am picky when it comes to curriculum. I'm thrilled with my childrens' progress here. Both of my kids have been attending since the Beginner Preschool class, and my son is about to go into 1st grade, while my daughter is heading to Pre-K. My son is definitely ahead with certain areas of academics, and when he needs more of a challenge or extra support, he can go to the Learning Success Center. Last but not least, although the accommodations and academics are great, I have seen my kids grow so much in their faith. They come home singing worship songs, reciting Scripture, and growing in their knowledge and love for the Lord. This is so important to my husband and me. Hopefully this helped. Due to a couple negative reviews, I should add that our principal changed last year, and although the former principal is fabulous, Mr. Saunders is doing an awesome job. Also- to respond to one of the negative reviews left several years ago, the school has new administration and a fantastic new principal with children who attend the school. To address individual learning needs, the school started the "learning success center" which gives additional support or challenge to students who need it. Our kids have been coming here for seven years now. As the name suggests, the program is about academics within a Christian framework. SAT scores show year after year that our students test several years beyond their grade levels. Living in a neighborhood that feeds into Maywood I can say firsthand that our kids are learning more and stretching their abilities in ways that will prepare them for High School, college, and the real world. We've had our kids at Heritage for 8 years. We have been thrilled with the school in every way. First, the quality of education. Before we enrolled our oldest in HCA, we had him enrolled in a different school. We looked at the curriculum for the other school and reassessed wether it was right for our child. We then looked into Heritage, and it looked as though he'd be challenged there. So we enrolled him in Heritage and haven't looked back. When our younger child was ready for school, we'd been so pleased with Heritage that it was a no-brainer. In their time at Heritage, both of our children have been consistently challenged to work up to a standard. It's difficult at times, but the teachers are great at encouraging, working with, and getting the most out of students. The vast majority of students at Heritage, test above their current grade level, sometimes as much as 4 grade levels above! As far as other reviews are concerned, it's unfortunate that some people have had poor experiences at the school. Everyone's situation is certainly different. I can say this for sure: my oldest has been at Heritage in Kindergarten - 7th grade, and has loved it. The teachers genuinely care for the students. There have been times when my son was frustrated with situations at school (normal issues with other students, even circumstances with a teacher that he did not understand), and he felt the freedom to go to the teacher directly, to get clarity and help. We have seen consistently, that there is respect among the staff for each other and for the students. As far as the Christian part of the school: Besides the school's ability to consistently call their students to a high education standard, the other thing I wanted in a school, was a place that would not attempt to undo the things that I had taught them - their worldview, particularly. That is not to say I didn't want them to be challenged. At their ages, being able to teach something in our home, and have their school reinforce that, is a great thing. I teach them to think for themselves, and I want them to attend a school that allows for that as well. Heritage does that. I can't say enough about how much we love this school. From the quality of education, to the individual care our children have received, it's a great school. read more

This school has helped our children excel scholastically and remain grounded socially. Their education is built on a strong Christian foundation. One of our children has been at Heritage four years and the other one year. Both started in the 3 year old program and have each been under different teachers. All the teachers have been incredible. Our first grader is reading at 5th grade levels and loves learning. This is largely due to the strong educators at HCA, from preschool up. My children get customized learning plans which keeps them challenged and always learning. They've participated in the after school activities including chime choir, chess club, and cheerleading camp along with the many field trips, concerts, and science fairs. Heritage is a gem and we look forward to enrolling our third child in a couple years. Our children have been under the tutelage of a teacher called out by an earlier reviewer. My wife even helped out in her class. We would never have stood for the kind of accusations that gentlemen made. Nor would we have specifically requested that teacher for our second child next year. Very disappointed in the time my children were at Heritage Christian Academy. The principal is not trained to properly lead the school. When being tested for admission and it was clear that one of my twins needed some assistance in reading (they were in kindergarten) the principal's suggestion was to hold her back a year but if she attended HCA she would receive no assistance, would be on probation and if my child couldn't keep up she would be dismissed from the school. My other twin was praised over and over in front of his sister for his high testing results. Not one word of praise was given to the other twin. When my 3rd grader was out with his teacher waiting for pickup she was always very loving, hugging the students and talking highly of them to their parents. When in the classroom (I heard from volunteers and my son agreed) she was known to be very strict (ok, no problem) but raised her voice to the children to an uncomfortable level. Yelling at children is never ok. When my 4th grader was in class just a couple of weeks we were pulled aside by his teacher and asked if we'd considered having him tested for ADD. She suggested we look into medication to help him stay on task. Two other parents were asked to look into medication for their boys as well that same week. When we finally decided to transfer back to our previous outstanding private school my 1st grader said HIS teacher was being nice and not being mean to him anymore. The lack of any kind of individualized education support was disappointing. It appeared they were looking for a certain standard and less willing to individualize teaching plans. Something I would expect from a private institution with low class sizes. They do have a beautiful state of the art science lab. I wasn't fond of them not having a cafeteria and the extended care was "ok" but could be so so much better. read more

This is our 2nd year attending heritage Christian and has been a disaster. The communication between families and administration has been horrible. One teacher has suggested ear plugs due to her not controlling the class. Their 504 plan is a joke don't expect them to follow it (you will be required to pay for it as well). The head of school expected me to reach out to her teachers instead of them following the weekly contact which is part of her 504 plan. They switched teachers for another child without talking to their parent.... I really could go on & on and have the emails to prove what I'm saying. There was one day that was so bad when I got emailed information I almost pulled my daughter out immediately (the trauma they caused instead of calling me was horrendous) I have had the principal include me in on emails where he said thx so & so I know this is an inconvenience... their classrooms in middle school are so crowded that the kids cannot even use their backpacks and are carrying things from building to building. And yet they are attempting to expand and create a high school hmmmm If you have attended this school since preschool it feels like a family but otherwise prepare to be an outsider.. it feels very jr high ish. read more

We enrolled our first grade daughter and preschool aged son at Heritage Christian Academy this year. It was a long decision making process. I emailed with the principal, went on a tour and met staff members at Heritage as well as Cedar Park. After my tours, meetings and speaking with parents at each school, we chose Heritage. This school has a family atmosphere, dedicated staff, and a high academic standard. Some ways Heritage stood out from our other eduction options, including the public school: Our family was looking for a Christian education, where values, character and a love for God and others is just as important as academics. At Heritage I trust that my young students will be taught well academically, but through the voice of truth. I know they will grow in character as well as knowledge. I think Heritage saves themselves a lot of strife through a school uniform. There aren't any dress code issues about what's on your t shirt or if your daughter's pants count as leggings because everyone just wears the uniform. There is a high academic standard. They review the curriculum on a rotating basis so that everything comes into review every five years. Each subject curriculum is what they find to be the best, not merely a bulk purchase of everything that a Christian publisher cranked out that year. That was refreshing to hear, and it boosted my confidence in the education my kids are receiving. I know that when they transfer into a high school they will be successful anywhere, and ready for college when that time comes. My first grader gets plenty of recess. That may seem silly, but I have active children. I know that if they are to succeed in the classroom, they need to run around and get some fresh air. Finally, I met several disgruntled parents from other schools. I didn't meet anyone who was unhappy at Heritage. That spoke volumes. read more

For our family, HCA was a great experience. My daughters attended from pre-school through eighth grade. They are now both highly successful in college with one pursuing Physical Therapy and the other studying Engineering. I believe that HCA was one of the key elements in their disciplined study habits that are paying off now in college and will serve them well as successful adults. This is our second year at Heritage. My son began in Pre K last year and is about to graduate Kindergarten. My daughter is three and has been in the full day "3's Room" since September. We have reenrolled next year for 1st grade and the "4s room". My son is reading at the first grade level (and in Kindergarten) which is what the Heritage curriculum strives for. My daughter has grown tremendously this year as well. I have been nothing but impressed with not only the academics but also the kindness of each student and the safety and love that HCA puts into each of the children. I went to Heritage Academy when it was Heritage Christian School. Since then, they've tried for a facelift to improve morale, without a whole lot of change to go along with the name. So says my mother who used to work there. I was intellectually challenged up to grade 6. Nevertheless, in fifth grade I watched my friend get called, by the teacher, "a tool of Satan" for distracting her neighbor. The other fifth grade teacher frequently made my friend cry and didn't console her or apologize. There were other encounters of similar magnitude, especially during the junior high years (i.e., you show your butt crack to the boys, helping Satan weave a web of temptation...). Plain and simple, this school is too small, lets its teachers run rampant, is too incestuous, and too poor quality to pay out-of-pocket school fees. Go across the street to Maywood where your child will be just as cared for. If you pay taxes, don't pay more for this school. read more

This school "cherry picks" the students, my son, very high functioning autism currently in public preschool "tested" into this Kindergarden program, they "failed him" on things I know without a shadow of a doubt he can do and has done, the principal herself called me and told me we don't take Austic kids is IEP, we can't handle them, but they sure as heck took the $250 fee to test him ( they gave back after I demanded it), knowing upfront he has Autism, after touring the school 2 times, talking to them many times and getting his IEP. Then the chicken of a principal HID in her office at the time she knew I was coming in to get my refund, wrote a BS letter about why he failed the test and did not have the good morals or Christian Attitude to see me or apologize to my face! My children have been attending Heritage since preschool and are now going into 5th grade and 3rd grade respectively. Heritage has given them the opportunity to grow educationally and socially while being in a wonderful Christian environment. The principal is amazing as well as all the staff. Also 2 years ago they added a cognitive program called Arrowsmith that helps children with learning disabilities. My son started the program in it's first year and we're amazed by all his positive changes. My kids go to school every day with a smile because they know they are loved by their teachers and can't wait to learn. HCA is really like family to us! read more

Our son started attending Heritage Christian this year as a first grader. We've watched him grow in almost every subject, reading, math and writing. His teacher Mrs. Brooks is great at communication and loves her students. We've gotten to know some of the other teaching staff as well with PE, science, extended care, music and the administrative team. My wife and I both feel like we made the right choice with Heritage and are giving our son the advantage of a loving, bible based curriculum that he can flourish in.
