I love this "little" piece of green heaven right smack in the middle of the Museum District and Medical Center. I used to take my students there for our lunch break during our field trips when I was still teaching 3rd grade. We also rode the paddle boats for an end-of-the-year party. This park has a lake, running trails, golf area, driving range, Miller Outdoor Theater, train, picnic tables, gardens, etc. It's a nice area to take a break from the hustle-and-bustle of the city life. read more

Now that I live but minutes away from Hermann Park, my boy friend and I felt adventurous this past weekend and took our dog Charlie to the park. We had SO much fun! The trails are so clean and easy to follow because they literally gravitate towards the center of the park, as well as circling around the entire pond! We met so many new friendly faces and Charlie definitely enjoyed chasing after the ducks! When I was in high school I remember coming here on a school trip and riding the paddle boats and having a blast, so Carlos and I can't wait to come back and do just that! Go there early for parking because it gets hectic there, especially during the weekends. The park is located next door to the Houston Zoo. The park is very nice with plenty of places to check out. The have a cute kids play area, although there are tons of homeless people sitting near the play area. They have a splash area for kids. You can buy a ticket to go on their cute train around the park. They allow you to get on and off at other locations. There is an area where you can go to the top to get a nice view of the gardens. They also have a nice man made waterfall section. The place is nice and there are events where you can catch shows or performances at the theater. Nice relaxing place, whether at the reflection pool or on one of the hills. Nice place for a picnic. read more

This is my favorite park in Houston. Fortunately, I live really close that I can run/walk/bike with my dog there everyday. I especially like the Chinese park with the gazebo, since a few of us treat it as a dog park and let our dogs play around in the open field. Miller Outdoor Theatre is also very cool to go to in Hermann Park as well as the Reflection Pool, Houston Zoo, and the Japanese Garden! read more

I spent 5 years in Texas before making it here, wish I had come sooner. This centrally located spot has it all, museums, zoo, Japanese gardens, playgrounds, botanical gardens, and an awesome amphitheater. We will be returning to this area when we come back to Houston. read more

This place is absolutely perfect if you have kids or have a full day of touring the city with your family. Definitely bring your grand kids if you're a grandparent, because this park is an easy place to keep little kids occupied as long as you have help watching them. This park has everything, from green play spaces, a long pond, lake with paddle boats, picnic areas, theater with seating, swings for little ones (and big ones), snack shop, beautiful, tranquil Japanese garden with streams and bridges.... and that's not even all! We spent many hours here enjoying the scenery and the activities. But of course the grandkids LOVED the mini train the absolute most, which you can ride for free and it takes about 15 minutes. They wanted to ride it about ten times. You can hop and off if you like. It's a beautiful place to walk on a nice day. There is even a study section, although those of us herding grand-kids didn't have the luxury of stopping to study or swipe! There is also easy access to the many museums in this area. Lots of people taking wedding photos and using selfie-sticks! The nature feels good and I think we'd come here regularly if we lived here. Don't hold your breath because we may move!! read more

This park is huge in its awesomeness! My kids love the train that goes around the park, and then it's a hop and a skip to the Zoo next door, which always features spectacular animals and exhibits. We went over there today. It was just a perfect weather day, not too warm, not too cold - perfect. It's was just fun to walk and see people, dogs, kids...everyone had a smile on their face. 2 1/2 hours of just a nice day. So rare in Houston, to see outdoor life. Today, Herman Park had it and then some. Just a great/nice day! Go if you haven't been in awhile...the only negative is the musical chairs of parking that takes place before you can enjoy. read more

Usually one of my favorite spots, however today this park was closed for a private party for rich white women. As I tried to enter the park a very round, very very rude female African American officer stepped in front of us and said "can I help you?" In a tone that a salesperson in a Tesla dealership would use to speak to a homeless person that wandered in. Peace and quiet near the medical center. Popular place to jog, stroll or walk the dog. The Garden Center on Hermann Drive is great free attraction with a wide range of roses, interesting specialty gardens and a nice sculpture collection. Zoo requires tickets (get them at a discount at Fiesta) but is also worth a visit. read more

Love this park! It is beautiful and has everything! Me and my boys have a blast every time we come here. You could spend 2-3 hours no problem feeding ducks, riding train, going to see the dinosaurs etc. plus really nice place just to hang out and play ball. Best park in houston! read more

There are a lot of things to write.Zoo, Miller outdoor theater and Rail.I am going to focus on Japanese garden on this review.The garden is located near some monument.You can see a big stone and gate.It was supposed to charge admission fees.Now, it is free. 1.Flowers and plants. You can enjoy Japanese flowers and plants.Matsu is some pine tree in Japan.You can see some Matsu at the gate.Take is some bamboo tree.It is Panda's favorite. Ume is Japanese apricot. Ume is a beautiful pink flower in January and February. Of course, you can see sakura, cherry-blossomsyou can see beautiful blossoms in the end of February and the first week of March. 2.Building i like a tea house.You cannot go inside.There are some special occasions which we can go to the inside of the house like Japan Festival.Please walk around the tea house.You will sea a lot of beautiful things.Japanese strongly believe "The devils in the details .The gardeners and designers are taking care of small things such as stones.There are a couple of benches. You can read a book here. 3.Water Water is important.There are a pond and small rivers.I like a view of small falls.It looks like some shower.It seems to me that the falls clean everything.There are a lot of rivers and small falls around the garden.You can see koi, Japanese beautiful fish.Sadly, you cannot eat koi. I attended Cherry blossoms planting ceremony on October 19th 2012.Japanese government sent this nice gift to the garden. We will see more Sakura Cherry blossoms in the last week of February. I love Hermann Park. Seriously. It is a little brown for my taste (to be fair, I haven't been in Houston long enough to see it in Spring, so maybe it will green-up a bit by then!), but otherwise, it's gorgeous. I love the spaciousness, the trees, and the pretty water displays. I love the Japanese Gardens--especially that you are allowed to take your dog in there! I also like that the zoo is in the park, and that there is that adorable little train that goes around it--super family friendly! I also love the free parking... hello, awesome! However, I will say that on nice days, this park gets insanely crowded. I couldn't find parking within a mile radius of the park one weekend, which was really disappointing! But, can I blame others for wanting to take advantage of a great spot on a great day? Nah, I guess I cant. read more

One of my earliest memories of Houston was riding the railroad here as a child. A small sanctuary in the middle of an otherwise unwieldy city with its well kept park grounds and gardens, a great outdoor (free) venue, the museum of natural science and the zoo. Best family park hands down! You can spend the whole day here or in this area rather-- give it that the zoo is right next door. The 15-20 minute train ride was a perfect way to end the day with my son and and his father(my boyfriend). They also have little boats that you rent for i believe 9 dollars/person that you can ride around the pond in(so cool). The park is in a perfect area. Not only is the zoo right next door, you can go for a little walk and you will be walking right into the museum district. I love this park/area! read more

It's a great park and it has lots of interresting stuff. It's inbetween the science museum, the zoo, and Rice University. There are paddle boats, a few great fountains, the Miller Outdoor Theatre, a few nice sculptures, a good walkway, a mini train for kids with a long track, ducks, geese, and of course pigeons so watch your picknick basket closely. There is a metro rail station next to the edge of the park between Main and Fannin, so public transportation is easily accesible. The next stop on the line is the museum district, so it's a short hop to some great museums. There are always wedding and quince photoshoots going on in the park because they have some great spots for that type of photoshoot. read more

This place was beautiful! I wish the walkways were a little bit more paved, because it was difficult dragging my suitcase through the gravel. But there are beautiful fountains, and this huge hill you can climb, and there's so much beautiful green space it's ridiculous and makes me wish Dallas had something like this. read more

I walk here almost everyday. I love this place. It's within walking distance of my apt. And I couldn't be happier. It's clean. It's always maintained well. They are doing construction now, so I assume they are making it even better. It so pretty, and so relaxing. Plenty if space to run around in, walk in, explore. Kids love it here, old folks walk hand in hand here, and then there's the athletes with the headphones out pacing me. Basically, you get your fresh air, your vitamin d, and you feel great! Beautiful landscape, peace and tranquility. This park is the gem of Houston and one of the most scenic landscapes near the medical center. The location is definitely a destination visit as it is located next to several museums and restaurants with plenty of sight seeing. To just list some of the amenities and attractions this place has to offer or is nearby is extensive. Located within the park itself is the reflection pool, fountains, ponds, several sculptures, Japanese gardens, play grounds, picnic areas, and Miller Outdoor Theater. Located near and around the park is the Natural Science Museum, Children's Museum, Houston Zoo, golfing, Rice University, Museum of Fine Arts, are so much more! This park has enough activities and sites see to last at least a few days if you were so inclined to visit each place. But what's most important is that this park is peaceful especially in a large city such as Houston. Overall, this park is a must visit for anyone who hasn't explored Houston, and those who need some time to themselves and focus on their inner peace. Prices for various activities such as museums and zoo varies; Thursdays are free days at the museums. Side note: like many other urban parks there will be less reputable individuals touring or soliciting in public spaces. Be smart and don't walk alone after dark. read more

Hermann park has so much to offer: multiple playgrounds, kiddie water park, train, gardens and more. Unfortunately, it's intolerably filthy. We are new to Houston and have visited the park at least 8 times in the last month. Every time I have been disgusted by the trash overflowing in trash cans and lying everywhere. We really want to come here more but are going to explore other options in the area. The park loses three stars for me having to pick up other people's trash before my son plays on the playground. read more
