I love this place and am so happy my friend, Jessica introduced me to the kind folks here and their delicious food. It's one of few places in Odessa/Midland where I can grab a low cost, healthy low-carb/keto fresh food option. There's counter service and it's clean inside with nice artwork on the walls. During my most recent visit, I ordered the Iraqi kabab over salad and some baklava. To drink I had an unsweet pineapple ginger tea. In addition to our orders, the chef brought us many off the menu dishes and also sat with us a bit, telling us all about her home country. We haven't tried this place before but it was worth it. We were greeted immediately and the menu was explained to us. Couldn't have had a better host/owner up front. We ended up ordering the fall off the bone lamb shank, and a chicken salad. It was beyond flavorful. The rice was perfectly cooked as well. Also the portions Shame all of these other establishments around here that are reducing the size of there plates. To top it off, we had the freshly baked Baklava (to die for) and a Turkish coffee. Was brought here on a date by a Superfan. I love beef shawarma and basmati rice, so that's what I got with a side of Tzatziki. It's a good portion and I think the going rate for a plate like this in any city-- maybe with naan thrown in though. I would definitely eat here again. I hadn't ordered anything from there in quite a while and today my boyfriend thought he would surprise me as I had mentioned I was thinking about a veggie plate from there soon. so he went up there and asked for a veggie plate. they told him they didn't have any veggies other than salads, and so he got one and brought it over. I told him if I had wanted a salad, I would have said a salad and showed him on their menu the vegetables I would want. he took the unopened salad back to trade and they actually laughed at him and refused to trade the unwanted salad, or even take back the salad, they were very rude to him. they'll never see either of us back, that's for sure! Family oriented restaurant, super clean and the owner was so sweet and vary welcoming. The food was so delicious with so many flavors. It was so hard for me to decide what to eat because everything looked so amazing. I ended up choosing the Iraqi kebab over rice with grape wraps as a side dish and parsley salad. As for dessert I had baklava with Iraqi tea. My son had French fries with chicken nuggets that was Freshly made. Heroes is pretty clever, opening a takeaway, restaurant and meal prep service in one place to offer healthier options for families and bachelor engineers alike. They cater to different dietary needs, so you can specify Halal, Keto, Vegetarian etc which is especially helpful when feeding a mixed group. I've been here a handful of times now and found that the food can be really good but inconsistent. Overall, it's also expensive. *Biryani is tasty and interesting. It's a Fried Rice with focus on spices instead of added meat and vegetables. It's different every time I go, not sure if that's on purpose. *Tzatziki is refreshing. It's yogurt-based with cucumber and dill and you top it on everything. *Hummus - Good. Usually a thin consistency, served with a layer of oil. *Pita Breads - Slightly sweet and delicious, especially dipped in sauces. *Beef and Chicken Shawarmas - These can be so good and flavourful. However, I find these two to be the most inconsistent on the menu. Sometimes they are thinly sliced, sometimes roughly chopped. The spices are all over the place, one time it was spicy, another time it was heavy on a warm ingredient like cinnamon or clove. It overpowered everything. The best thing about them is that service is typically friendly. Also, they really shine at catering. They ask for large orders one day in advance but we've called in with only 30mins notice before. They were still able to whip up what we need. Of course, it's not cheap - for an order for 10 people it came out to about $180 (including tip). The best Mediterranean food I have ever had without exception. In Midland for work, and stumbled across this spot while looking for healthy and vegetarian-friendly restaurants in the area, and so happy I did. I needed to pick up an order for my office early in the morning and asked if I might be able to come pick up the food at opening. Almost immediately I received a call from the owner letting me know that he got the message and that their schedule allowed for me to come an hour before opening to pick up my order. When I got to the restaurant the lady inside was so kind and even let me use the restroom, which was tasteful and very clean. The woman proceeded to help me carry everything to my car and carefully helped fit everything into my car. As soon as I tasted the Chicken Shawarma I knew this place was going above and beyond with their flavors. We got the hummus, baba ganoush, falafels, chicken shawarma, veggie burger wrap, Philly steak over salad, beef shawarma, chicken gyro over rice, and beef gyro over rice with plenty of pita bread and EVERYTHING was DELICIOUS. I'm from California and have tried a lot of different Mediterranean food and who would have thought that the most delicious hummus I've ever had would be in Midland, TX! I would gladly make the drive from Dallas again just to have Heroes Meals again. This was the most wonderful experience I've ever had with a restaurant coupled with the best food I've had in a minute. It provided a nice break from the monotony of burgers and Mexican food that is the typical cuisine in Midland. We tried several different entrees as well as split hummus and falafel as a table and everything was delicious. The lamb gyro in a wrap with fries was what I had and it was delicious! We also ended our meal with Iraqi tea and baclava which was the perfect way to end dinner, the tea sweetened was too much for some of my fellow diners, but I loved it! TLDR: Over rated Mediterranean cuisine with decent portion sizes and very average food. Come here for a healthy meal, but don't expect much else. I came here expecting to be blown away. Coming from Houston, I've tried my fair share of authentic Mediterranean food and experienced many different renditions of chicken shawarma. The version at Heroes is probably one of the worst, if I'm being honest. I ordered the chicken shawarma over biryani rice and hummus as a side. The dish looked promising, coming as a large portion with a decent amount of chicken and a heaping amount of rice. However I soon noticed the "shawarma" came as unusual large chunks of meat, instead of the typical thinner slices or pieces that would usually result from a vertical rotisserie. Though quantity here makes up for quality a little, the chicken was dry and lacked the aromatic spices characteristic of chicken shawarma. Though the biryani looked promising, it was over cooked, though seasoned nicely and seemed to be prepared well with some potatoes mixed in as a nice touch. The hummus was the last hope for this place, but that, too, was lackluster. It desperately needed seasoning of any sort, and at the very least accompaniment by some sort of pita or chip. The last surprise here was finding out that the biryani rice cost an extra dollar, something not disclosed when they asked if I wanted my chicken over white or biryani rice. However, If this dry chicken had been served over plain white rice, I might have lowered my rating to 2 stars. If there's one redeeming quality, it's that the service here is impeccable. I came at the beginning of dinner service on a Friday and the servers are incredibly friendly and willing to answer any questions you might have. The shawarma was bursting with saffron and spice, the hummus was just like the stuff I had in Saudi Arabia, and baklava is second to none in flakiness, texture and flavor. Having moved to Midland from Houston a year ago, my husband and I have missed the diversity in food and flavor of a big and culturally-diverse city. We love Mediterranean food, and were sad that Midland didn't really have a restaurant that offered that authentic flavor. When we heard about Heroes we knew we had to try it! Tonight, we had the Beef Shawarma plate and the Chicken Biryani plate - both of which we polished off. Seriously, the staff probably thought we licked our plates, they were so clean! I opted for hummus and pita with my Beef Shawarma plate, and didn't regret it. The pita was fresh, hot and soft, and the hummus was clearly homemade and so tasty! My husband opted for the tzatziki with his Chicken Biryani, which reminded us of cucumber raita in Indian food. Yum! His rice was so flavorful, I had to force myself to take only one bite so that I wouldn't eat all of my food AND most of his We had the house-made baklava for dessert, hot Iraqi tea for him, and iced ginger lemon tea for me. Again, delicious! And the Iraqi tea service is so lavish! The gentleman who welcomed and waited on us was also one of the owners, and possibly the chef as well. He was so kind and patient, and took time to tell us about their catering business, which I will certainly use at the office! He even took another couple who came in right at closing time, and didn't rush them or make them feel unwelcome. The young lady who was helping clean and serve was also very friendly, and had a smile on her face during each interaction. Truly exceptional service! Simply the best in Midland! My friends and I initially started going here due to it serving halal meals. We figured, how good can a Mediterranean restaurant in west Texas be? Well, to say the least, we don't go here anymore out of desperation of it being halal, but because this food is INCREDIBLE. Upon entry, you will see the counter where you will place your order. There's always a friendly face there who will help you out! I suggest their Combo Platter, but honestly, you can't go wrong, everything is delicious. We've ranged from the steak and eggs all the way to the minced meat kebabs, and to say the least, we are never disappointed. This place is terrible. They give the smallest portions at $13-$15! The food is covered in seasoning and the food is not good all the way. The basmati rice they had was crunchy in some areas on my tray. Oh yea, they give you portion trays if you also dine in. You figure you are dining in you can get a decent plate of food cooked fresh but not here. I got the chicken shawarma FYI. They charged me 30 cents for water!!!! Like really, and it tasted unfiltered! But who charges for water!? Find other place if you can, hopefully they open one here in Midland. read more
