Sometimes I work with contracting firms where an attentive sales person asks about your project, and then a separate team (plus an annoying game of telephone) comes to actually work on the project. After waiting half the day Friday with no crew showing up, my wife and I officially canceled the project. - Unannounced Arrival: Management called Friday afternoon to discuss the cancellation, agreeing to hold off processing until Monday. However, on Saturday at 10:00 AM, installers showed up at my house unannounced with materials, claiming I had approved the start time. - Personal & Work Conflict: Because the crew showed up unannounced, I had to scramble to find work coverage for my on-call shift and cancel our weekend plans. I chose to let them proceed to avoid wasting time and materials. - Workmanship & Safety Concerns: I had to personally supervise the crew to ensure they followed my installation notes. After completion, I had to hammer down exposed staples, remove dangerous exposed nails, and clean up loose hardware and sawdust left across the backyard where my young daughters play. - Resolution Process: Over the project's duration, I was handed off between **three different project managers**. When I brought up the issues on Monday, the PM initially offered a lowball $100 credit. Stephen arrived right on time -- actually a little earlier than the scheduled window -- and the quoting process was straightforward. I received the estimate later that same day, and their pricing was very fair and significantly better than several other quotes I had received. I approved everything online, and shortly afterward they called to schedule the work within the next couple of weeks. What impressed me just as much as the pricing was their communication and attention to detail. We had literally finished painting the exterior of our house only 4 days before the fence work, so I reached out ahead of time and asked them to take extra care around the freshly painted stucco. They responded immediately, noted it on the job, and when the crew arrived, they already knew about my concern. That kind of communication between the office and field crew gave me a lot of confidence! Gerald from RB Fence came to look at the job and provide an estimate. His quote was very detailed, much more so than any of the others we received, and it was the only quote to include a Split Invoice Addendum form for dividing the cost with our neighbor, enabling us each to pay separately and having the amount of each share clearly documented. (This was particularly important because we agreed on an uneven split.) RB Fence was the only quote that came this way, and it really was a selling point, because it made things easier for us. On the day the work was to be done, the crew arrived on time and immediately got to work. We were surprised by how quickly they got the old fence down and the new one up.
