So why was I here? I was involved in a traffic crash and needed a rental while my vehicle was getting repaired. Dealing with these people via telephone was ridiculous. I kept getting the runaround. [This car isn't available - We're waiting on a car to be returned - This car isn't the right size - This car hasn't been cleaned] Finally I had to contact the insurance company which contracts with these people and magically a car became available. Now let's address picking the vehicle up. The "office" is located at 126th and Western. It shares a lot with an auto body repair shop. The office smells of patchouli oil - absolutely disgusting. Calling the office dirty is an understatement. Anyway it took about 30 minutes to secure a vehicle. The desk guy was friendly. I almost felt bad that he has to work there. While waiting there was a band rehearsing upstairs. I smelled weed and heard some pretty decent music. I guess I'll call that ambiance. Anyway my car was ready and it had a solid 40,000 miles (hard miles). The vehicle also smelled of patchouli oil or some really, really, bad auto freshener. Car had a break in the windshield, a bad gash on the trunk (gunshot?), and obvious signs of parking lot damage. These local rentals get put through hell and it shows. I don't know if Hertz runs these bootleg operations elsewhere but if you can avoid this place then do so. read more

Initially, I contacted the Oak Lawn Hertz rental facility and was less than impressed, the rep that answered the phone was not helpful and made me feel like I was bothering him:( I actually said I was going to call some other rental companies and he didn't seem to care, I gave Hertz another shot and called the Blue Island Location because my insurance company recommended Hertz , Sherri is the sole reason I didn't go to the agency down the street , She is pleasant efficient and handled an office full of customers at the end of the day with a smile, I was shocked to see one person working in such a busy location But kudos to her she handled it! read more

I can't give -5 star so they get one!!! This place is a joke. I walked in there with my girlfriend and two kids and was not even greeted. The person behind the counter was having a ghetto trash conversation with the person she was helping. They did not even acknowledge that there was two kids present they just went about their conversation as if they were in a bar. I told my girlfriend to call State Farm and see if we can go to the enterprise down the street. We walked out of there without any question from the people working luckily State Farm made us a reservation at the enterprise and we didn't have to deal with this disgusting place!!!! read more

The WORST experience ever! - 1 person working, had to wait a long time as this person is the one handling reservations, checking cars, washing cars - The car was not clean. In fact it was disgusting both inside and outside - When I first came in they told me they didnt have the car I reserved so they gave me the dirty car that needed an oil change - If you prepaid, bring you receipt as they wanted to overcharge me - The car didnt have any gas - I ordered the car for 9 am. From the time I got there and had to go and get this car cleaned and fueled, i was on the road 2 hours later - I normally rent with Budget, will NEVER rent with Hertz. read more

This was thee worst experience that I have ever had in life.. Back in Dec I rented a car from the blue island location because of a accident. While my car was being fixed my insurance recommended I go with them because they have rental agreements with hertz .So I decided to use them hey why not the insurance is covering it no big deal . Yea right I should have stuck with enterprise. Long story short of course I took out the extra coverage in case anything happens etc which was $111 but to my surprise 2 wks later my account is hit with a $206 withdrawal making my account go neg because of overdraft fees of insufficient funds . Wait where did these extra fees come in @ I had my bank reverse the extra charge 2 months later I get a letter from hertz stating I owe them $81 . Why ?? I spoke with a corporate representative , the manager @ that location & no one calls back in a timely manner to even let me know what's going on . I still haven't gotten it resolved & because of the overdue of payment its now on its way to collection. The guy from there corporate office called finally last week to say I need to pay the bill because I owe the money its no fault on there end . Excuse me is that how you address a customer I'm so disgusted with this whole situation. My next step is to get in touch with the better business bureau. They need to let you know up front how much fees will be no hidden charges. They will never have to worry about me EVER RENTING a car from them & anyone I know as well.....!!!!! read more

I chose Hertz in Blue Island because it was next to ABRA, where my car was being repaired. there was only one staff member available with several customers. I had an appt there but it ran late because she had to answer calls check the cars go over things with the customers. She was very polite pleasant, but I did not find this acceptable as a functioning service system when people have other scheduled things to do. it made me late for my checkin at Abra. what cause my anxiety the most was that the new cars don't use keys anymore LOL and when I saw this fob she gave me, I was clueless. so she had to come out with me to at least show me how to get the car started but I was very apprehensive because we didn't go over everything... Just enough to get me going. I was not pleased with the scratches on the outside of the car. she looked around the exterior with me and I showed her every scratch and small areas of paint missing, front license plate was bent I didn't like that. we peeped in so she could show me the button to start the car. at that point I was very afraid to use the car. she told me not to worry about the little dings and scratches that that's usual wear and tear but I did not want to be held responsible for that. The young lady at Abra could see how distraught I was. she actually came out and went over everything in the car with me the things that I would need to know she then backed it out of the stall for me because I never used a backup camera. later in the afternoon I noticed smudge marks on the mirror visors fingerprints like dirt or food or something and looking at the upper part of the car there were dark marks on a light gray. later, I found empty pop cans under the back seat. I called Hertz and spoke to a different staff member to add these marks on the report. she said they only use sanitation wipes on the visors, fabric, etc. I haven't had a rental in over 10 Yrs and it was pristinely clean. Also, it was the only car they had so there were no choices. I think it was bad timing and l am overly sensitive about things like this. I didn't want to return the car and be blamed for all the dings,etc. if you couldn't take the time to straighten out the bent front license plate....come on. The tank was bit under half full. Two days later I filled it up, forgetting it was half full so that's my loss. The car had an odd odor maybe from food. I honestly believe this car was just returned there and they just did a quick wipe down. tire rims, fuel tank dirty. I would only return if I had to, but I insist on better preparation of the car. also the moldings around the rear windows were loose. I drove the car as little as possible. I plan to reach mgr. to discuss. the 3 stars are for the two staff members. read more

The car shop I used to have my vehicle repaired after getting rear-ended sourced a rental vehicle for me from Hertz, and I can say I've never been more disappointed by a business. The car had no gas in the tank (only 18 miles on the range screen), and was filthy, smelling of mildew inside and having random items in the backseat (a child's sippy cup and a booster seat whose safety features were questionable). When I addressed these concerns with a staff member I was brushed off, told to give my contact information, and then never contacted. WILL NOT BE USING THIS BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE -- EVER! read more
