When I got here, everyone from pick up to return was also very nice. What a great and smooth service. We rented a car to drive around Chicago and more importantly get to the Farnsworth House by Mies. We made it there... and in style. We were able to get an awesome sports car for our little adventure all thanks to the attendant. I will say that the customer service desk was a little meh... the lady that was there didnt want any interaction with humans, just get what you came for and leave. We may have lucked out when using the Alamo at Midway. We looked for the rental shuttle outside baggage claim and it takes all rental customers to a central garage off site 5 mins away. The Alamo line was short and fast. Some others (Budget for example) were extremely long- could be luck of the draw. Friendly service and then we got our rental on the 2nd floor. Easy and the car was fine. Return was quick and painless. An older gentleman welcomed me back and was very nice. My wife left her phone in the car and a younger associate ran after us and returned the phone - so thankful as that would have been a big mess. I would definitely use them again. read more

Customer service said to contact them. I called and emailed. I received ANOTHER email, stating that the tolls weren't on the contract. It's not on the contract because the person at the desk DID NOT ADD IT TO THE CONTRACT, EVEN THOUGH I TOLD HIM WE WANTED THE TOLL PASS. For me, it's always about the customer service. Rented my car from Alamo for a quick visit to Chicago to see my mom. Renting the car was super fast; service agent was very pleasant though I can't recall her name. But the winner was the return. After renting the car, I notice that the brakes were terrible. The car vibrated terribly when I would press the brakes. For a longer stay this would have definitely warranted returning the vehicle. As I was only in town for two days I decided to deal with the faulty vehicle. That was my choice. So when I returned the vehicle I wasn't looking for a discount or a refund. Just wanted to be a Good Samaritan and informed them that they had a bad vehicle. You have to remember, these agents don't drive the rentals. They clean and disinfect and rent them back out. The service agent Mike was very helpful and slightly surprised when I told him about the vehicle and I didn't need a discount or refund. He asked me to come with him to the manager station. There, I met with Hill Love-yes that's his real name-and he apologized for what he felt wasn't their best service and wanted to ensure I leave with full customer satisfaction. Gave me an excellent discount on my rental! They definitely earned my future business! read more

UPDATE: As you all can see, Alamo asked me to tell my whole story AGAIN to their customer service department...after already telling this to them directly on the phone. Fine, I sent them a long email with all the specifics. After their boilerplate niceties, here is the substance of their reply: "If a customer's final/arrival flight is On Time, but arrives after the branch is closed, the location will NOT remain open for that customer. The location will remain open for up to 2 hours after their posted closing time to accommodate delayed customers. The customer's airline and flight information MUST be included on the reservation in order for the 2-hour rule to be honored." Fine, that policy as stated is very easy to understand. They only wait for FLIGHT DELAYS, if you've already included your flight info in your car reservation...which I always do. And if that policy had been stated clearly, it's easy to manage...just don't rent from Alamo for red-eyes. But my criticism stands, and reinforces my review. I was told TWICE by phone CSR that they had a SIGNIFICANTLY different policy, AND I BASED MY TRAVEL PLANS AROUND THAT ASSURANCE. For me, this means not only One Star, but more importantly I need to find another go-to car rental brand. I'll turn to Avis for now, and see how that experience goes over the next several. read more

A pleasant experience! In the past, I've had to write one and two star reviews for a competing rental car company and even address issues with corporate offices. Not the case with Alamo at Midway Airport in Chicago! We had prepaid for our rental ahead of time so, the our time at the counter was minimal. The guy at the counter was good and had a sense of humor. The wait time in line was roughly about 10 minutes. The greeter JT in the lot was so sweet and welcoming. He showed us to where our rental was and gave us his business card. We had a Nissan Sentra for a couple of days and it was fine even on the last day where we had to defrost and remove the ice from the windows. The folks on the receiving return of the vehicle were nice. I think one of them was Angie and I didn't catch the name of the gentleman. Smooth transactions. No attitudes and no hidden fees! My husband says he does not mind choosing Alamo again. read more

NEVER RENTING FROM ALAMO AGAIN. Never drove through a toll booth(if there was a booth, I would have paid the toll), but apparently got a $1.50 toll on I-294. Instead of adding 1.50 to my card, Alamo added $26.50, $1.50 for toll and $25.00 additional fee. Not to the state as a fine, directly to Alamo. Talk about price Gouging. I sure hope that $25.00 makes their year, because they just lost me and everyone one I can reach out to as customers. read more

This review is specifically for the Alamo at Midway Airport in Chicago. I have rented cars from other companies at Midway with horrible experiences. I went with Alamo to try something different this time and I was extremely pleased. I waited in a short line to check in, and they had my reserved vehicle. It took about 10-15 minutes for the car to arrive to the Alamo pick up point after I my check-in was processed at the downstairs reception. Each employee I interacted with was courteous and treated me with respect. Our mini van only had 5k miles, was totally clean, worked great, and looked brand new. read more

My brother decided to rent a car while we vacationed in Chicago in early April 2021. I forget the reason why he chose Alamo, but that is now irrelevant. While we were both taken aback by the lack of choices especially for full-size vehicles, there were by far more upsides than downsides... We didn't get attitude from any employees. Quite the opposite. Everyone we interacted with - three individuals - was friendly and quick to help us out. There were no issues with the vehicle. The actual facility and set-up for picking up and dropping off the vehicle was simple and safe. I had a really good experience with Alamo a week ago at Midway Airport, especially with the man checking me out (as I drove out of the parking structure) and checking me back in (same man). He was warm and friendly, explained everything well, got to know me a little bit, and overall made it a really positive experience. I also really liked the person who showed me which car was mine, and my economy rental car was very nice and seemed kind of fancy with all sorts of brand new safety features. When you're renting a car, you want it to be uneventful. Like you get the car, return it, and everything checks out. I got almost all of that from Alamo. But there is one reason I'm here and I'm doing this in the hope it saves someone here some time. Alamo & National work together, so, all of their rental cars & staff work together. That means when you go upstairs to pick your car up, you could very well pick it up from National, and my guess based on the signage is that this configuration is the default. That also means when you check in, you could be serviced by someone at the National desk, especially if no one is at Alamo. read more

Never again. Anywhere. I rented a car with no plates nor temporary tag. Just try to park in Chicago. Car is worthless to me now. Valet at the hotel. Lucky I haven't been pulled over. No response from them. Never rent through Priceline. They won't help you at all and the car company won't compensate you. The response below from them is ridiculous since I've already called their central line and their local office. When I returned it nobody had called still. Doug Miller was great and told me he could do more if I hadn't used Priceline so NEVER use them to rent a car. He offered me a deal on my next rental in Chicago. Very good manager. read more

Park the car and somebody comes give you the recepeit and you are all done. Definitely will use it again at this location. St Louis location not recommended. read more

A well oiled and efficient machine. I first made reservations for a mini van via the Alamo website. But, after poking around on my airlines (Southwest) website, I was able to cancel my initial reservation and book through them for $130 less. Plus, I banked some flyer miles in the process. After arriving at the rental car center via their bus, I presented my booking reservation to the clerk who simply checked my drivers license and re-confirmed my credit card then, directed me to the 2nd floor of the parking structure where my car was waiting. Five days later. I retuned to the same parking area where an employee quickly checked the car for damage and a filled tank and printed me a receipt. That's it! Total time getting into and out of my rental car took less than five minutes total time. I'll be back in the Chicago area soon and when I return, Alamo IS getting my business again. read more

We needed to extend the rental due to the emergency and Alamo price gouged us, no longer honored the daily rate, raised it to a more expensive weekly rate and then over charged us adding an extra day. I'm actually surprised... but I had a pleasant experience picking up my car rental at Alamo. Friendly woman behind the counter who went out of her way to assist with directions and giving advice on what kind of car to get when driving out in Chicago's blustery wintry weather. On top of that, the prices were one of the best around Chicago (but of course, you'll have to reserve at least a week ahead of time for the deals). And with the cars being clean, under the roof, and in a giant facility shared with other rental companies, it was a breeze coming in and out with a car that looked vastly better than the cars out in the street that are covered in frozen sludge. :) Thank you Alamo. read more

Id assume so if they are okay with the bait and switch they used on me of allowing me to book a car and PAY for that car downstairs and then upstairs...viola no we don't have that car but here's a downgrade, despite you paying for the car that we do not have! I sent out an even longer more informative email to Alamo, not only did they not respond to it they didn't even acknowledge it. I wish I could take back my 1 star and give them negative 6. Lesson learned go with SIXT.com They have better cars, rates and actually respond to any issues, as well as providing the car booked and paid for. This review is specifically pertaining to renting Alamo when you arrive into MDW late. I called the day prior, asking them since my flight arrives at 12:50am, would they be open to assist since they close 1am. The associate on the phone ASSURED me that they WILL be open, since they took down my flight info. Even up to TWO hours past time, they will be open. I was glad to hear that and went ahead to book with Alamo MDW. My flight from OAK arrived late due to a bird being caught into the engine so they switched our plans. That caused our plane to take off 1 hour later, which meant I landed into MDW 45 minutes late. However, I trusted Alamo would be open. I went to Alamo counter off-site, and no one was there. Their sister agency National was also closed. I proceeded to call, and they said to look at the car area to see if a worker was there. I thought I saw someone earlier. So I went upstairs and there was a worker driving what I assumed would be my minivan. I said, can you help me get my minivan (knowing it was 45 minute past closing). She said, "We're open again at 5am." So I said, I was told that you would be open past my late flight. "We're open again at 5am." "The associate said you would be open up to two hours." "We're open again at 5am." So I left frustrated, calling Alamo once again ready to complain. They were about the work out some possible arrangement where me and my friends would be reimbursed taking a taxi 40 minutes to my destination, and then to get back to MDW to get the minivan. While I was about to keep waiting on the line, I had to take the elevator down to see what was happening with my friends at the counter area. I saw them in line at the Hertz counter, which was surprising since I knew Hertz closed at 1:30am, and NOT remaining open for late flights. Yet the employee Alexis remained open so that we were able to rent TWO minivans, at LOWER cost than Alamo. Two wins there! So we profusely thanked her for remaining open, for which I wasn't sure how she was allowed to do that. As for Alamo, he worker never called me back though I asked, please call me back if we get disconnected. Another fail. Best of luck to everyone else with your Alamo rentals late at night. read more

Paid for a midsize car rental at this location and paid 7 days at a time on a 2 month rental reservation. The first charge was $619.00 for July 3 - July 10. July 10 I called to extend the rental and was charged 594 until the 17. The 17th I extend to the 24th and was charged 1791 dollars. The 24th i extend until July 31st and was told it would be 594 dollars and was charged 2537 dollars!!!!!!! This place will rob you blind and give you a complete bag of lies when confronted. I don't know why Yelp stubbornly refuses to correct the address, but Alamo definitely shares a facility with National (same corporate parent) near Midway Airport at 4625 W 55th Street. Alamo is my top choice for car rental at Midway, and I have shopped around. They frequently have double points deals with Southwest, which is my beloved airline, and which I recommend booking through for those points. Even without these points, Alamo is almost always the cheapest national brand car rental at Midway. One important thing you must understand is that Alamo and National are the only off-site national brands at Midway. This means you must leave the airport building and take a very short shuttle for your car. I think this is actually a good thing. I shall explain. Like most airports, Midway does not have a secured facility for their rental cars on-site. The rentals are in the same structure as short-term parking. "So what?" Well, that means you cannot pick your own car, because they cannot leave keys in the ignition. At the non-Alamo/National rentals, they give you keys, they tell you where the car is theoretically parked, and you hope it's there (and from my experience, it's not always there). At the Alamo/National lot, you just pick your car from the right class. Even better, this means you can check in on their website, print out their rental agreement, and go straight from the airport shuttle to the driver's side of your car, get in, and drive off. Therefore, even though Alamo is off-site (by like 400 yards), they are usually faster and cheaper than the other national brands at Midway. read more

Grrr! That's grrr like a growling dog, not grrr like "hey grrr, hey." Some of my angst might be toward Midway and not Alamo. The lot here is dumpy and it's not located in a logical place (pay close attention to the signs when you're returning your vehicle). Picking up was fine. Lucky me, I picked a car that was missing its antenna. I was only in town for 3 days, so I didn't complain or bring it back. I mentioned it when I returned it. No apology. They were totally indifferent, except that I had an extra $60 charge for having the car 2 additional hours. Blah. Oh, and I held up an entire busload full of people. It wasn't entirely my fault. I pulled my car in and unloaded it. No one came out to help me and when I had everything out of the trunk they motioned for me to pull down into another aisle. GRRR! read more

Picked up my rental from this location and everything was okay. Except for the 1hr wait time in line when i still had a 2.5hr drive ahead of me at 8pm. I also thought it was weird that i was responsible for doing a walk-through of the car to document any existing damage. I expected that Alamo would take care of this and i could just confirm and leave with my rental. I cant imagine what would have happened if i missed an existing damage and then returned the car only to be blamed for it. Thankfully, this didn't happen to me. I made a reservation online for August 3rd. Plane was to arrive at 1205 am. Alamo closes at 1 am. Plane was an hour late leaving so I call Alamo and they take my flight info and assure me someone will be there when I arrive and they'll stay up to two hours after close for me. I get there and there is no one there. I call the number again. They tell me to check National. No one there. Then the lady on the phone calls the office - no one there. I luckily spotted a body at Avis and was able to rent a car from there cheaper! I canceled Alamo; the lady on the phone noticed they did get the memo about the late flight but apparently didn't care. I'd be sleeping at the rental car center if it wasn't for Avis. Nice job Alamo. read more
