Avoid at all costs!! I didn't plan on leaving a review but we had a bad experience here and then saw other reviews detailing the same thing that happened to us! So beware of this place, their lack of professionalism, and shady practices when you return your car!
First, they couldn't find our reservation, then they couldn't find the keys to the car we were supposed to get. After that, they tried to give us another vehicle calling it "an upgrade", that was smaller and couldn't fit our suitcases (we had specifically rented a larger one to fit our bags). It was completely muddy (they said there was heavy rain in Paris a few days before... the car was parked indoors at the airport. Also... how are you supposed to check for scratches like they ask you to do before you leave if the car is covered in mud?!).
They finally gave us a bigger car. At that point, we were exhausted after a 12-hour trip and from all the back and forth and waiting. All the people in line were getting very frustrated. It was chaos and one of their staff was rolling her eyes at her clients who had questions. The person in charge of us was at least kind but completely lost and clueless, waiting for answers from his manager, who was busy trying hard to convince people to pay extra for more insurance.
They ask you to check the car for yourself but for the car they finally gave us, they didn't show us anything about the state of the car and we could barely see it and check it. The parking was dark and the car was tightly packed between two others with little access. It was almost new and in very good shape and we trusted them to be honest... (And didn't read the reviews about this place!)
We drove it without any problems, no accident, no scratches but the unfriendly guy who "checked" it when we brought it back saw the tiniest scratch on the hubcap. This could easily have been on the car before we rented it. When we didn't agree to sign in agreement that we were responsible for this "damage" and argued with him about it, he became hostile and rude.
We were in shock and had a flight to catch, so we left without signing, and then received an email saying we owed them nearly $400 to replace the wheel. Luckily for us when we complained to Hertz about this they removed the charge, but it looks like other people ended up paying them for exactly the same situation. Honestly it seems like an organized scam. We never had any problems with Hertz in the USA or any other rental places while traveling in France. My advice, find a better place even if it seems more expensive at first. read more
