Happened to me a couple weeks ago. I was irritated and frustrated not understanding how this happened. There was also a miscommunication over the phone so i was very upset. However , Henock was very kind and helpful and even gave me $30 off rental due to the miscommunication and because they didn't have my car in stock that i reserved. The other man working was very nice, both have good attitudes and do the very best they can given hertz horrible booking system. I was in the process of buying a new car and I had to rent from here at least 4-6 times. And half of those times there was an issue at pick up. Don't allow the older lady or that guy with the dreads to give you whatever car they want. They tried to up sale me a car because the car (or similar) I booked for wasn't available and they wanted to charge me for an upgrade. That's their problem not mine.. They also lied about cars being available because they figured it should go to a different (other race) customer. They want to discriminate against a particular group of ppl who they feel shouldn't get certain cars. They will park your car scheduled car up front but say it "smells like weed" or " it has a defect" once you arrive, but when I returned the car I seen another older whyte man returning the same car they told me wasn't available because it smelled like weed. Very racist. The Hispanic guy in the morning is very professional and respectful, he's quick and good at making sure your rental was a great experience. During the Raster/Spring break week this 2024 year my car needed repairing and I needed a rental. Unfortunately, the car company that was repairing my car did not have a car to rent me, although they have a car rental agency on their premises. I phoned several places but no car was available for rental, except this Herz rental on El Camino. I needed the car immediately because my daughter was expecting her baby and she was feeling some contraction. Thanks to Enoc and his staff they had a car available that would withstand 680 freeway winds & rain that Easter weekend. Also, Enoc and his staff were friendly, polite and courteous. I was picked up at my house and driven to rental agency. They rented me a clean and economical car. Paper work was easy & fast. Even after I returned the rental they were so helpful and congratulated me on my newborn grand baby. I don't think I would have made to my daughters if it was not for Enoc and his staff. Thank you! I went to this location to rent a car September 1-4th to rent a car, while mine was in the shop being repaired. I normally do not frequent Hertz that often. I found this location and its staff to be stellar. I had Abel help me in my rental, found him to be professional and very patient with customers like me that are not that tech savvy! We had initially made a reservation for an EV because we had to drive 200 miles and wanted to save on gas. Despite the confirmation, they did NOT have the vehicle we booked. We got a lame excuse from the attendant that the website shows cars in stock within a 60 mile radius. Which is deceptive and incredibly inconvenient when we don't have a car to drive to get the car that we booked. The attendant "upgraded" us to a gas vehicle so now we are spending more overall in gas for a worse vehicle. Thanks for nothing Hertz. NEVER renting a vehicle from here again. read more

I have a reservation at this Hertz location. Upon getting here to pick up the car I reserved, I'm told that the car is unavailable but that one could be available if I upgrade and pay $750 more for my reservation. When I commented that I expect the car to be available with a reservation, the associate (Henock) literally said the words "a reservation doesn't mean anything" and that Hertz corporate accepts reservations regardless of vehicle availability because of corporate greed. Next time I'll be going back to Enterprise where I've had much better experience. Very disappointed with Hertz and this Redwood City Hertz location. read more

The Manager provided me with the rental and offer me an upgrade. But that upgrade cost me double in two different credit cards. I have been wanting to write a review for months! So, here it is. I had to leave my car at the Towne Ford service center, and needed to rent a car from Hertz. I'm gimping right now, fractured knee, so I was hobbling around trying to find the entrance (more on their general atmosphere later). I walk in, and I notice a short line, and a very nicely dressed young man behind a table (business attire). I also notice, that this place is depressing - there's only one chair, and the room is white, and kind of creepy (think morgue). It's also hot as Hades! This is the saddest location for anything I've ever seen, yet Jeremiah is SUPER sweet, patient, and hard-working. He's helping a very crotchety old man, and then another upset customer, because they have been sent to drop off their cars at this location - and this location is not a drop-off location!! So, whoever is giving customers this information, needs to cut it out or get a different job! These guys not only have to deal with angry customers when they arrive, but it was also a hot day, AND they have no a/c. That's not the saddest part though, they also have no coffee machine, no fridge, no vending machine -- nut'n'honey! I know that's obnoxious, but every service location I go to, has some semblance of care for their workers (and customers), even if it's water!? Given the atmosphere, I think they deserve some coffee (espresso - not that watered-down stuff). Nespresso machines are cheap - come on Hertz. They're not even close to a coffee shop, gas station etc. (I think they are close to a strip joint though - and not a high-end one either - we are taking seedy stuff haha). I really don't know how Jeremiah and Anthony (I believe he's the manager - I might have them switched - sorry guys, it's been a while) keep such composure with an Alcatraz-like venue. I could go on, all I can say is MANAGER, DISTRICT MANAGER, HERTZ... give these sweet guys a break!!! Send customers to an actual drop-off location, and get some AIR CONDITIONING and a NESPRESSO, SODA MACHINE, or VENDING MACHINE?? Better yet, put these hard-working superstars in a non-prison-like business location. So, despite very crabby customers, an inferno atmosphere (it's hot, muggy and unpleasant - only 1 customer chair... in a room that looks like an insane asylum), and a generally DEPRESSING office/parking lot, these guys do an AMAZING job! In fact, if you can swing by and pick up some caramel lattes for these guys, that would be the most humane thing you could do (besides not being an a-hole to them. They were both so nice and accommodating in providing me with a vehicle similar to my own, so professional, and upbeat - bravo to you both! Give these men a new building and double their pay is all I can say! Seriously, pick up some coffee for these two. A car repair place said they would rent a car for me while they fixed my car, and they chose Hertz. They took my information and told me I'd only have to have a $50 deposit on my card and it would be returned to me. they ended up charging me for the whole rental, not the car repair place, and they have not fixed it yet, its been a month. I have called 5-6 times to get my money back, and they claim to have called their head office, but they are liars. Don't let them take your card info if you are not supposed to pay, they will keep it and charge you. Manager said it was an honest mistake, but they are not being honest about getting my money back to me. Rent from Enterprise! read more

I tried to book a car at the Hertz location. Appointment 1. Cancelled because they didn't have my reservation even after I gave them my confirmation code. They didn't have any cars that day so I scheduled an appointment the next day. Appointment 2. They called me at 1:20pm saying they gave my car away because I missed my appointment. My appointment was scheduled for 4pm. After that they said they were booked until the next week so at least 3 days out. I moved on to another rental car company. I dropped off my rental late (actually two days late, because this location is closed all weekend and Hertz no longer does after-hours drop-off) and naturally had some extra charges. I realized the daily rate on the new bill wasn't what I originally agreed to in my reservation (it was double) and called the location back the same day after dropping off. A young man (I think his name is Julian) answered the phone and was able to correct it to my original rate, saving me hundreds of dollars. I found the associates working there to be generally helpful (and the car was new and clean), but I'm not sure I would use Hertz again because the trips I need a rental car for don't generally end during business hours, and that's the only time you can return. read more

This location opened after the one on 99 Beech Street, Redwood City, CA closed. The reviews for the Beech Street location is still up and since the staff is pretty much the same, the customer service experience is similar. If you are used to renting from Hertz at airports, then know that you will not be getting similar service. Be prepared. These people are not there to provide customer service, they are there to sell you the insurance and gas options. The rep that worked with me said, "Keep everything the same as your last rental?" and I said, "Yes." But I guess he took that to mean "Yes, add the insurance option." (which I never select as an option) so the insurance option was added. I did not catch this until the end when I reviewed the charges, and I told him to remove the option. First, confusing the customer didn't work. So next, be aggressive. The aggressive selling started with showing me all the charges that I would have to pay -- "It could add up to thousands of dollars," he said -- if they noticed any damage to their vehicle (which had over 11,000 miles on it already). "If you don't want to worry about paying for damages, just pay for the insurance option." I still declined the option. When we went out to inspect the car I requested, "Point out the damages that is already on the car." "There isn't any," he said. I am not trained to spot damages (and it was overcast) so I thought, "Maybe he's right. Maybe this car does not have any damage." But I continued to walk around it to see for myself. I spotted one damage on the car and pointed it out. Then, I spotted another one. Concerned that he claimed there was no damage to the car I asked him, "So if I did not point out these damages to you, and brought it back in this condition then you would charge me to fix for these damages?" "Yes." Well, at least he was honest. Be aware when renting at off-airport Hertz locations. They are scammy. They will try different ways to get you to pay for the options and if you don't, they can get you at the end when you return the vehicle by making you pay for damages that were already there. read more

Staffs are great at this location, but needs to be more efficient. 1. Their cars are disgusting A) not vacuumed B) broken glass still inside the truck 2. The car they had given me had a service light 3. Lack a lot more vehicles for rental when they are busier than usual. 4. Tire pressure was out of place, I ended up doing that myself 5. Rims are completely an eyesore that needs a lot of repair 6. Car wobbles on the freeway probably due to the rims are deformed on all right side of the rims (front and back) My mistake was, I should've checked the car inside including the trunk before I left their property. I didn't have time to bring it back to them right away as I have other appointments during the day and I live far from this location Beware of the conditions of the their car before you drive out of the lot! Would have given 0. Want to voice up what most people said here. I was picked by a lady from this place taken to Hertz Redwood City to meet Henock in RWC. After reaching there will all my luggage from my car that went for repair, he said he has my confirmation but doesn't have a mid size car for me. He could have called me in advance to let me know but he chose not to. Instead when I reached there he scanned my credit card, took my license details and then said he could give me a suv for a higher price. After I told him its other party's insurance thats taking care of my rental, he said I could try to turn in the receipts! We all know how that goes with insurance. He also said $50 is to be deposited but given all the people who were charged here and shared their experience on yelp, I decided to leave without a car. He also said taxes and other fees aren't covered by the insurance and I will be responsible for it. Worst service ever! Never ever go here! Finally I had to call insurance and cancel this reservation. He had a civic sport but he wasn't ready to give me that for the mid size car. He asked more for it. my 1 star is for the pleasant lady who picked me up, but could hve given 0 for Henock. Avoid this place at all costs. Also, the office smelt like sweat! Showed up on time for my pick up, I had a reservation. They did not have a "mid-size" SUV available, but they had a Ford Explorer, ready and I said I'd just take that, but the associate Henock told me that "technically" that's a 7 seater so it's not "technically" a mid-size and that he needs that car for someone who has a reservation...I explained but I have a reservation and I am here and I need a car. Then Henock tried to up-sell me on another mid-size because it was a hybrid, or another larger SUV, and offered me a EV even though I told him I don't want an EV...every time I logically spoke with him about fulfilling my reservation, he quoted "corporate greed" as the reason why he couldn't simply provide me a vehicle to honor my reservation at the same price...2 people ahead of me also walked away for the same reasons. I've rented many cars over the years from Hertz and other companies and if they don't have the specific car available, they provide the next best thing at the same price with no additional charges. read more

Let's begin with the fact the the lady that worked with me Erika was excessively polite and professional, I'm unsure how she can work in an environment where she has a manger (Victoria) continuously talking down and belittling her. AAA sent me over to pick up a vehicle, which I had an agreement number ready to go. Come to find out that Victoria is "saving" all the cars for her customers. I wasn't going to argue because I just need to get me a car from point A-B and I was running short on time to get to work. I ended up getting a Dodge Grand Caravan because that's the only car "Available". When I came to drop off the car only person there was Victoria, didn't give me the time of day and Literally said," I have the keys now, you can leave!" With the rudest tone. There was smaller Latino man who works there that is super friendly, even offered to drive me to go pick up my vehicle from the dealership. Two weeks go by, now I have a charge on my Amex for $41.80 for tolls crossing the Bay Bridge 4x's which I never did! Now I'm arguing with Plate pass and hertz customer service for this bogus charge! This company is so corrupt! I recommend anyone going to rent a vehicle to stay away, but if you don't have a choice because of insurance make sure you take photos of the Mileage from when you pick up and drop off the vehicle. I've submitted an escalation with plate pass for documented photos of the vehicle crossing times and am working on a clash action lawsuit against hertz. read more
