I will NEVER rent from Hertz as a whole. The blame is only partially on the location. The entire customer service aspect of the company is horrible. First, they lost my reservation!! overall a shit company. made a reservation weeks in advance and on the website the age for renting is 18-19+ called to confirm multiple times and never got put through to an employee. day of pick up location was closed so had to go 40 minutes to a different location. they told me when i got there i needed to have someone older. I was booked over the phone for a SUV. Unfortunately, after taking two buses to get to this business there was no SUV's available. I was told by the person who tried to help me that they can book any car over the phone but that your over the car model phone booking does correlate with reality. It's hard to remember that sometimes the folks who work in these establishments are part of a bigger entity and are sometimes limited on what they can and can not do. With that being said, I was met with a gentleman, Kimayne Gentile who was giving it his all when I came in this past weekend to rent a car (which was previously purchased through Priceline). Because I had made my purchase through Priceline (and used a Debit Card), there were countless hoops that had to be jumped through before heading out. Kimane jumped on the phone with Hertz customer service and worked hard to make sure I would be able to leave without any additional fees. While I could've been irate and taken it out on him and his team, I understood he was doing everything in his power to make this work. If you're in need of a rental, I would first say 'use a credit card' but secondly use Kimane! read more

Lady at the counter was nice to me, as she could smell I had no idea what I was doing. She offered me a variety of different types of insurance, and when I said no, she questioned my choice. I wonder if they get commission for selling insurance. It took like 10 minutes to bring the car out, as I think they were in the process of cleaning it.... I dunno. I rented a car from them while mine was in the shop. I dropped the rental car off and picked mine up on a Friday, here we are on a Monday and I AM STILL GETTING CHARGED PER DAY for the rental. Upon calling Hertz they seemed genuinely confused about even having that rental car in their fleet and finally figured out that they had not picked it up from the repair shop yet. So until then I GET CHARGED?!! They also could not answer me as to who would be liable if there was damage once they picked it up if it occurred while it was at the shop but my "contract is still open" with them. Such poor communication and management of resources is terrifying considering hundreds of dollars missing out of someone's bank account might matter to them. Steer clear of this place. read more

The car was absolutely disgusting. I asked the staff that was scurrying me out the door if the car had been cleaned and sanitized as we are in the middle of a pandemic. He not only told me that it was clean, but that they used bleach. Complete and total lie! I wish I could post the pictures of the interior that I have on my phone. Not only did the vehicle appear to not have been cleaned in a decade, there were several items found in the back that must have belonged to the previous renters. Car spray to cover up marijuana stench, phone charger, etc...The staff was hurrying me out the door the second that I walked in and juked me into paying an extra $175 worth of insurance and damage waivers that he told me was absolutely necessary, which I found out later was not. Lies. I booked through Kayak and my total was $279. Received a bill for $481. I booked the car reservation on Kayak for a 9pm drop off on a Saturday. While at the Hertz, he entered a drop off time on Saturday by noon. I looked at him and specifically stated that I have a reservation through Kayak stating a 9 pm drop off, not noon. He looked at me and said "Don't worry, I will be here all day and night Saturday. I don't want to have to go in and change it in my system. Don't worry, I'll honor your 9pm drop off." Guess what? No one was there when I dropped the car off at 4:30pm. I was charged an additional late fee. I cannot believe this place is still in business. I will never rent from this company again. I will pay any extra amount that I have to for a decent car and experience. Be very warned. They are not honest at this Hertz in Ann Arbor MI. Total crooks. read more

I have had a horrible expenince with them, firstly they messed up my rental car by saying that my change in car hadnt gone theu the system so they try to give me the original car I had rented. Than 15 miles out of Ann Arbor i get a flat tire due to a hole in the side of the tire. Its horrible service never recommending them to anyone read more

Walked in to reserve a car for this coming week. I went in cuz I was next door and thought what the heck I'm right here. So to make a long story short, my reservation for the week was quoted for almost $450!!!!! I asked her if it would be cheaper to do it online, she said no the difference was only $7. So I made the reservation and she told me rates were high because it was during spring break. So.... I went home checked online for the same branch and got a quote for $190 same "economy" style and everything. Really glad I checked online and ended up going to the one at the Sheridan. I've been to that one before the people are good. Really don't appreciate being lied to so they can get a better commission. Very dissatisfied and will never use them again!!!! read more

Very bad service. Made reservations online. Then checked in online. Then when I got there the man told me he could not help me. I stayed there for 5 or 10 minutes while he tried to tell me why I could not rent a car and essentially the location can't accept debit cards but he would not tell me that. I went all over town looking for a car last minute and decided to check the other hertz location in Ann Arbor. The woman there transferred my reservation and helped me get on my way. I've rented dozens of cars in recent years and never had as smooth an experience as here. Could've booked the car online just fine, but called to verify some scheduling/worked out different scenarios for types of cars and return date and they were very helpful. It's Michigan winter with schools closed and a car in the shop for who-knows-how-long, but the conversations were easy, helpful, and quick. Was riding away in a car just a few minutes after arrival. No pushy up-sells like at airports. Drop-off was also the fastest I've had save a key drop. All very professional. Happy to bring my business here in the future if I need it. read more

I rented a car in June 2017 to travel to Idaho from Michigan with family. I rented via Priceline. When I arrived to pickup the car (4 hours behind schedule), I was immediately unhappy with the condition of the interior & exterior of the car. I alerted the customer service representative. The rep offered to place me in a downsized vehicle, but that wasn't going to work for us since we were a family of 4 traveling. I took the dirty car and cleaned it myself. When I turned the car in, I alerted the rep that was handling my checkout paperwork. She offered at that time to mail me a voucher for my next rental. I was happy with her doing this, however, I tried to anticipate what might happen if the voucher was sent. I immediately asked if this would work on a Priceline reservation. She confirmed that it would work with Priceline. Taking her at her word because she's the employee, I considered my issue handled. I booked another car reservation in May 2018 for June 2018. During the reservation process, I placed a note w/in my reservation indicating that I had a $50 voucher. I even called Priceline to make sure the note had been received. They instructed me to follow up with Hertz on the day of check in. So I did. The representative I dealt with at the Canton, MI location was of absolutely no help. He instructed me to call Worldwide Reservations. So I did. I spoke with an agent named Stephanie who informed me that vouchers weren't allowed to be used with Priceline reservations. She explained to me why. And while I understand the why behind that policy, the policy wasn't communicated appropriately. Also - no where does it say on the voucher that it can't be used with a third party supplier. I tried to explain to her that it wasn't my fault that the agents are uninformed. The only solution she offered to me was to call the Ypsilanti office and ask them to extend the voucher for another year. I said that after all of this back and forth, I didn't plan to use Hertz again. read more

I have rented from this location about 6-8 times over the last year and a half. My experiences have usually been okay. Not great, but okay. The cars are almost always dirty, but the people have generally been friendly and their prices are usually cheaper by a dollar or two per day. My experience today was the last straw. I will never rent from them again. In all of the times that I have rented from them, they have always picked me up (this is an option on their website when you book online). There has never once been any mention of this being a problem. Today, an hour before they were supposed to pick me up for my rental, I called to make sure that the driver had the correct directions (my apartment building is not easy to find within the complex). I spoke to Kristen (who I later found out was the manager). From the time she answered the phone, before she even knew what I was calling about, Kristen was rude and condescending. She informed me that I lived outside of their pickup radius, and that they were short handed, so I would have to take a taxi to come and get my rental car. When I pointed out that they have always come to get me, and there has NEVER been a mention of a pickup radius, she rudely cut me off and told me that FINE, someone would come and get me, but she didn't know when it would be. I got a call back about 10 minutes later from someone else in the office. He informed me that Kristen told him to call me back to tell me that they were NOT going to come and pick me up, and that I needed to take a taxi. After a few minutes of conversation where he was relaying things back and forth between Kristen and I, I asked to speak directly to Kristen, he said "just a minute", then came back and said "she just walked out the door, but she told me to tell you to take a taxi". I asked to speak to Kristen's boss and was told that she was the overall manager for the office and had no boss. I canceled my reservation, called up Enterprise, who was happy to pick me up and I was in a nice new CLEAN car less than an hour later. I will still rent from Hertz (if they are cheaper), but never again from THIS office. I will pay extra before I will put up with being treated like this. read more

This location is extremely slow and understaffed. I returned the car and waited 15 minutes just for the receipt because the only employee was redoing the paperwork for another couple. No acknowledgement of my time wasted or apology for the wait. I was renting the car for my wedding weekend. I won't use Hertz at this location again. read more

Hi Hertz, I just wanted you to know that I will not be using your services anymore. I tried calling into the customer service number but it doesn't give you the option to talk to someone at the corporate office. So here I am on facebook to try to talk to you directly. The Hertz office in Ann Arbor Mi (4663 Washtenaw Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48108) is terrible. When I set up my appointment through my car insurance (State Farm) I thought it was all set. When I called them, they had no idea that I would need picked up. When I was able to set that up in the morning that I called. They were still 15 min late picking me up that afternoon. I was supposed to get a Full size rental because of the discount that is offered because I used my insurance to set it up. But nope. I was given this tiny Jetta to drive around. I called today to try and get a different car, but all they had were vans and compact cars. This is the worse rental car location I have ever been too. If the location isn't going to have any vehicles to rent they why are they open? read more

Didn't manage to give us the pick-up service we requested (lost about an hour of time, no excuses however). Staff was neither competent (didn't know the details about insurance deals -simply wanted to sell them) nor friendly. Extremely high insurance costs (LDW twice as high as with Enterprise). Will never again choose Hertz for car rental and you shouldn't either. read more
