I was a definite bait and switch. I reserved an SUV online and received a sedan.It was still a decent value compared to what was available. You pay like a small estimate online in advance. When you arrive they hit you with several fees $15.00 per day for using your own insurance and a $30 miscellaneous fee. Mine averaged out to about $40 a day. There is a separate $500 hold placed on your credit card but that was released pretty quickly in my case when I returned the vehicle. If it seems too good to be true it probably is. read more

cheap rental too good to be true. hidden daily fees , $19.99 a day, needed too much personal info with insurance policy. Shuttle is trash , but driver was nice. one other person left for same reasons we did, and a customer who just finished their trip was pissed they had to pay $400 for a slow tire leak they called about during trip because they didn't purchase "their" insurance but used their own. Our car wasn't available we had to downgrade because the one we supposedly reserved came in with window smashed from break in. not sure if that was a legit story or not all seemed scammy. Do not buy a car from here they will screw you. It is the name of their game. I took my car in a month ago for a tuneup and I paid $1200 for the tuneup transmission flushed whatever they changed. It had the car back in the shop a day later because it was running rough. They told us that the mechanic put one of the plugs in the engine. Took it home two weeks later take it back again because it's running in properly and now they say I need a new transmission for $3500 mind you this car only has just over 100,000 miles on it and I never had an issue until I take it to Taylor Chevrolet. This was a good vehicle until Taylor Chevrolet fucked it up. The name throws you off. I had to rent a vehicle for 2 weeks while mine was in the shop for a timming chain repair. I got put into a nice Dodge minivan the suburban mom vehicle. Loaded to the gills. The only issue, had a bad smell in it. But nothing airfreshner couldn't solve. And it was a gas guzzeler. Dude at front desk very professional and friendly, had me out and driving home within 1/2 hr. I would never rent anything from them. For their over booking, they cancelled my reservation as car was not available on promised time. I was promised that they will take care of my refund and won't charged me any penalties. One week after no refund so on my 1ST call to the office - I was told to call the corporate office. I did that, and without any indication the lady transferred me to Canton, MI branch.... again the branch office is no help and told me call the corporate office as they can't do anything... why was I transferred to branch office he has no clue. I ended up disputing the charges and told my cc company what happened. Ridiculous customer service and awful reps. Will never recommend anyone. read more

Sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do. I ended up renting from these guys for a few weeks, and it worked out for me but only because I got a car that looked ridiculous on the outside (severe hail damage ALL over the car so the white Buick Regal looked like, and was called by the staff, "the golf ball"), but ran great and was very comfortable on the inside. It didn't start out like that. The first week I was there I was given this awful little Dodge of some sort (Aveo?). The whole deal: no air conditioning (it was July), stinky, ugly, manual windows, rattly, etc.,... but sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do. When I went in to renew it for another week I think they took pity on me AND I think I was johnny-on-the-spot because the "golf ball" had just come back, and I asked if I could exchange. They agreed, and for the same money (even though it was a bigger car), I was off. I sometimes could see people looking at me funny when I drove it around, and even saw a couple of college boys laughing at my ride, but I didn't care: she drove like a champ and all the power windows, seats, air conditioning, sounds, etc., worked. The people at Rent-A-Wreck in Canton were really great, and I got to know them a little bit coming in once a week for a few weeks. I figure I probably saved about 50% by going with these guys, and for the time period I had it that was a significant savings. The moral of the story: if you can get the "wreck" that looks bad but runs good you'll probably have a good trip. Otherwise, it's hit or miss. Ask for the "golf ball"... read more

Pros: - They had a rental available when ALL of the other car rental places were sold out... and I checked a week in advance! (Does anyone else think that's weird? That the car capital of the country does not have rental cars available??) - The friendliest people I've ever dealt with at a car rental agency - super accommodating, and just good people - They picked me up from the airport 6 (or was it 10?) miles away - $50 round trip - only $25 per day for the rental! Cons - The rental I was given should've been retired oh, 10 years ago (it had over 120,000 miles on it, and it definitely showed) - I think the only thing keeping the car together was the rust - I was scared driving the car - Air conditioning didn't work (it blew hot air at me!) so during a torrential downpour I had to figure out if I should drown or suffocate - Manual windows (so trying to roll up the window on the passenger side while driving through a monsoon could've been deadly) - Trunk didn't open - The car didn't have automatic ignition (????) so you had to go through a weird progression of steps to turn on the car - EVERY time (which would be bad if I was ever in the middle of a car jacking or a potential attack?) - The car was neat, but was by no means clean. I kept wishing I had worn pants as I wanted no part of my exposed skin to touch the inside of this car - I returned the rental as fast as humanly possible as I wanted it out of my life forever - They don't take AMEX So yeah... They really do rent "wrecks" - I think next time I'll just take a cab to the Enterprise 10 miles away and just charge my company the extra $50. It would've been worth it! But I did escape relatively unscathed. So... yeah. Just be aware. They do have "nicer" cars as part of their fleet, but by the time I got there I received the better of the 2 cars available. read more

I recently rented a car there and I gotta say they had good customer service. Its a clean building. Got a Impala at first, The air didn't work and the passenger window didn't roll down. Called them the next day they swaped it out for a Taurus with no problems at all. It works great ( I still have it) John took care of us and I will follow up with a review when I turn it back in if there's any problems or hidden fees that I wasnt expecting. read more

I rented a truck to move some furniture. I was really surprised they still had a truck available to rent a couple of days before I needed it. My husband arrived at Rent-A-Wreck to find there was no truck available. Also, the clerk didn't care. There was "nothing he could do about it" and moved on to the next customer. - Added a phony charge to the rental at the last minute ($15/day "insurance" fee), although my insurance company covers my rental. - Added an unreasonable mileage restriction, which was not disclosed prior to me coming to get the car. - Car was full of dog hair, which got onto my clothing - Company DOUBLE CHARGED my credit card - had to threaten to file a report with the prosecutor's office to get them to reverse the charge - Male employee was rude and surly while I was trying to fix their mistake (female later called to apologize) I rent often, and I found a clean, newer car for the same price with a reputable company (Enterprise), with unlimited miles, and went with them instead. Had a great experience with Rent-A- Wreck at this location. Tina was very helpful in renting us a car at the last minute. Our other rental fell through, called Tina when they opened that morning and had a car when we flew in that afternoon. When we returned car, they even drove us to the airport at no cost!!!
