Car rental staff were friendly, but the car they rented us was in terrible condition. We rented a Tesla model 3, and received one that is dirty, with the side panels, peeling off inside and major functions such as autopilot and cruise control nonfunctional. What a disappointment! We had a reservation but when we arrived we were told they have no control over what the website does and they don't have any cars...I said we got an email confirmation that we had reserved a car, but you couldn't email us to say no car was available and save us the trouble of getting out here? The staff seemed like nice people but gave NO options for helping us. I asked if we could pick up the next morning, he said "we can't guarantee we'll have a car." I asked where the next closest Hertz location that had cars might be. He said we have no way of knowing who has what. I said this is a flawed business model to just offer excuses with no solution to a problem your company created. They just shrugged. I asked them to cancel the reservation and give me a confirmation number. They could not do that; I needed to call the 800 number (and go through multiple AI options before speaking to a human) and just tell them there are no cars and they will waive the cancel fee (so clearly this happens often). I recently attempted to rent a car from Hertz rental. I went online and found the car I wanted and paid for it. I was promptly sent an email and a text to my cell phone with my confirmation number. I had someone drive me to the location just to find out when I got there that my confirmation had nothing to do with them having any cars. The person at the desk says that's just how they do it. I just returned a rental and wish to thank Cameron, the desk agent, for getting me a nice, clean Toyota Corolla with under 20K on the odometer I used for nearly 2 weeks. It was a loner paid thru State Farm, the At-Fault driver's insurance co, so I had no concern re: Costs. Cameron got me in/out quick and was a pleasure to deal with. Special Shout-Out to their Courtesy Drivers Dwight (inbound) and JoAnne (return) who drove me round trip to the autobody shop, both were prompt, personable and great conversationalists. I believe it is best to approach the critique from a business point of view. As a business owner, reputed surgeon , writer ant poet laureate, I am used to highest standards of business practices and as a seasoned senior citizen I expect, highest courtesy and respect. I lost my car to Helene whereby I was sent to local hertz in CWB for a temporary rental. My experience: 1. The person at the counter sounded condescending when he told me, "your insurance company pays $30.00/day so you will get what they pay for". 2. I felt insulted with the clerks modus operandi - even though I am a very high achiever I am not white and the clerk treated me as a second class citizen; not withstanding that I was commended by President Carter for my orthopedic care of army veterans 3. Finally ge gave me a Hyundai Kona (10/15/24). When reached my home at Clearwater Beached I noticed a warning of left front light not working 4. morning I was to drive the vehicle to Thonotosassa FL to view my S600 AMG MB that was a victim of a Helene. I was not able to enter the car as the transponder was not responding 5. I hired an Uber to take me to my car 6. AAA that arrived at my place entered the car but informed me that the transponder battery was dead! 7. I returned to Hertz CWB on Highway 19 N Clearwater. Where instead of an apology I heard excuses, " we do not check transponder batteries". When asked about the burnt out light I was told, "I did not give you the vehicle so I am not responsible ". So in summary the first clerk was condescending assuming that I was lesser person because of my color. He threw Safety Insurance under the bus by telling me that they were cheap and to add insult he gave me a car that was not inspected for safety. Way to gouge your consumers during Hurricane Ian. You should be happy to have functional vehicles with people fleeing the area not double charging the price of a rental contract bc people cannot return to the local Tampa area. The airlines have all been wonderful. You should do better. Happy to talk if someone cares. Your supervisors have no power to fix it per my telephone conversations. No one at your location answers the phone even during regular operating hours. It is abundantly clear that you do not care about your consumers and are only interested in a buck. Please reach out and prove me wrong. #DoBetter When we checked in at the counter we had rented a full seven passenger vehicle. The vehicle that was allotted to us was an extremely smaller vehicle than what was originally promised. We thought we would have a Volkswagen atlas premium from Hertz his ad and we were stuck with a Kia Sorrento which is very liberally a seven passenger vehicle by comparison of the size of the atlas. We were forced to upgrade in order to find a similar fit for our family as we have an atlas at home and it fits just fine with the Sorrento is much smaller. As a corollary when we went down to the vehicle the car that they tried to stuff us into for $55 more per day had been smoked in and had 60,000 miles on the odometer. The front Chevy emblem on the vehicle was also missing in the car reeked of cigarette smoke. This was obviously not OK and so we went back and were able to select a different vehicle at 1 AM with three small children. Not having an appropriate vehicle ready during that time was extremely frustrating. We wanted to cancel and go to a different rental car counter at that time but given the fact that we had been tired and weary from traveling we just decided to suck it up and get stuck with whatever was available irrespective of the fact that it was significantly more than any other rental car carrier. Then came hurricane N. We had to leave the area so as not to get the vehicle destroyed but also to get ourselves out of harms way. When we had to deal with corporate after moving to a new location they threaten to charge us to the tune of almost $1000 for moving vehicles. I thought Hertz would've been grateful for the fact that their vehicle was OK because I'm sure many of them were destroyed instead corporate told us they could do nothing about the vehicle charge. Not only do we have to stress out about making sure that our family was safe but we had to worry about a rental car company sticking it to us because they are more motivated by profit then by the safety of their consumers. They overcharged my son and his girlfriend who were 21 and rented a car. They were fine with paying the underage fee but were charged more than double for the car, it was half empty when they got it, and upon return of the car they were treated like crap. The initial rental experience was good but when I misplaced the key i had to Uber to there location as NO ONE answers the phone. I was then told they have no extra keys. I was then told the car would have to be towed back to the dealership and I would be given another vehicle. Then the lady said they do not cut keys. But I could have the key cut myself. This place scams you beyond a reasonable doubt. They asked if I wanted to upgrade, and not only was their idea of an upgrade a Chrysler 300, but they gave me one that was full of dents and scratches and wasn't even clean. Then, to add insult to injury, when I returned after only driving a total of 7 miles, they still charged me $445. I would never EVER suggest this company to ANYONE and I will avidly protest anyone I know against renting from them. This company let me down so deeply and there are not enough words to describe the disappointment I feel to have wasted my money with them. Never again, choose another company. The employee who helped us was very friendly and helpful. However I Rented a minivan and I was told the car was just cleaned. They also told me no smoking and no pets. I got in and immediately knew someone had a dog in the minivan. The car smelled. Van had not been cleaned, dirty dash, stains on the carpet, drink spills on the door. I will say I had to go back to show there was a broken running light and fender that we missed on our inspection. The employee was very helpful and accommodating in writing the problem. She was apologetic and credited us a few dollars back on the rental. I usually rent from Enterprise because the quality of the cars are much better (newer). read more

I ordered a cab to get to the store, and when I arrived they refused to let me take the rental car because I did not have a major credit card. I assured them I had money in the bank and that they could run a credit check but the lady was very rude and dismissive. I will never return to a Hertz. Always enterprise from now on. Horrible experience with Hertz ,whom we have been customers for years. This location is so unprofessional. After traveling from Massachusetts, we arrived and were the only customers, they made us wait 30 minutes then informed us they did not have a mid size SUV available that we reserved weeks ahead of time and tried to upgrade us to a minivan. We refused the minivan and had to call a taxi for transportation. We then reserved a vehicle from Enterprise. The next day we went to Enterprise, when we arrived they did not have the mid size SUV we reserved so they upgraded us to an Acadia and called us the next day to confirm we were happy with the service and vehicle...to date we have not received a call for Hertz! read more

Branch manager Costa was very helpful and friendly...I'm all about customer service and I really look out for it...the cars are always clean and if there is ever an issue they will address it...the building is always fresh and clean...there is nothing bad I can say about this Hertz location, so for that they have earned 5 stars from me and believe me that is very hard to come by :) read more

Returned a car here last month and they charged me for every optional coverage in the book. I had not selected them but they said it was my word against theirs. I accidentally brought my business back here this month and they declined my credit card, so I left flummoxed and without a car. An hour later their charge went through, but when I called they said it wasn't their problem and hung up on me twice. Bank put a stop on payment. These guys should be in jail. read more

Rented from this location based on need. So glad I did. I needed a Yukon XL to fit all our luggage. I called earlier in week to request an XL. They said call the day before to confirm. I stopped by the before and they had two ready for me. Staff was great and friendly making sure I was getting the best deal. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS FOR RENTAL SERVICES, I WOULD. This was the worst experience I have ever had with an employee anywhere. His name was Mike F, from what I understand he is the rental manager at the Hwy 19 location in Clearwater Florida. When I brought these issues to light, he literally laughed about it. He failed to display my charges before charging me, did not follow Hertz "Smiles" policy, and they did not give me a vehicle inspection form. Not to mention the misogynistic, and disrespect he showed us before our husbands showed up to resolve the situation. He claimed he couldn't use my card due to "policy" yet broke MULTIPLE. When I returned to the location, I explained what he did wrong, aside from the absolute disrespect he showed me as a customer. He then refused to fix his mistakes and insisted on giving a refund. He didn't even offer an apology. Not only did I experience the worst customer service in my LIFE by this man, but I expected more from hertz for being a hertz family member. Whether I am or not shouldn't matter, you DO NOT treat customers that way. With COVID being as bad as it is the interior of the car was not sufficiently cleaned either. I could literally wipe the "solution" they used on the car. There was sand everywhere and damages weren't marked on the car ahead of time. I had to take pictures of it in case they tried to pin damages on me before I realized they added over $100 in charges I did not approve. This is an issue period and I am still left without a vehicle. I asked for his supervisors information which he didn't want to give me so that Is why I am complaining here. Don't go here. I reserved a Pacifica van for a move from FL to MD in Sept. Although there was a Pacifica in the lot, Hertz have me a 2019 Caravan that was defective, dangerous, & odious. I picked it up two days in advance, set the GPS & loaded the van. The morning I was leaving, the GPS quit working, the radio & CD player didn't work, and the control screen went black. I returned to Hertz and was repeatedly told there was no GPS system on the van even though I had set it and used it for 2 days: basically I was called a liar. The manager went out and checked it and identified there was a GPS system and that indeed, it was not working. Additionally, the TV screen in the backseat was extended and would not close, but the manager closed it (temporarily). When I expressed my displeasure, he gave me a 15% discount and told me if I needed GPS to go to Best Buy across the street and buy one. My 2 day trip started 2+ hours late, I drove 980 miles with no music & the back TV screen randomly popping up & down and impeding my view. When I got to my final destination and unloaded the van, everything smelled like petroleum from whatever had been carried in it previously. Obviously, Hertz Clearwater did not properly clean or service the van before putting it back on the road. I have complained to corporate, the MD branch where I dropped it off, and the Clearwater branch to no avail. The 15% discount didn't cover the cost off the GPS or cleaning the smell from all of my possessions. It's no wonder Hertz was in bankruptcy. You have a lot of choices for rental cars. I had researched this place and called Hertz corporate so my daughter could rent a car on vacation. She is 20 years old. I literally triple checked this. She got there and they told her that they didn't accept debit cards and just stared at us. No basic customer service what so ever. I got rather upset because we were stranded and again, nothing but staring. I went outside and said a prayer and collected myself. I then called Hertz Corporate. They said no problem, go to Tampa airport. We did and it all worked out, thank God. Why the staff didn't know this mystifies me, or why couldn't they call corporate and look into this. A $20 Uber ride and 3 hour delay later, it all got worked out. Not impressed with this location. A small amount of basic customer service would have went a long way to help this very stressful experience. I have a suspicion that they could have accepted a bank issued debit card, but the attendant didn't know what they were doing. read more
