Interesting to read these very bifurcated reviews: Folks seem to either have a horrible or incredible experience. Happily, mine was the latter! A certain Adrien Tucker is currently my personal hero. The backstory: My hubby left on a trip with my car keys in his pocket, leaving me stranded with the kiddos and no ride (and earning him many, many, MANY husband demerits). His attempt to mail the keys back via 24-hour FedEx service ended up taking four days. Given the bubons, no other car company in the area was able to deliver a car to my home. Hertz was also reluctant, but Adrien went above and beyond to procure a four-wheel drive vehicle ahead of a regional freeze (crucial for our double diamond-grade driveway), on very short notice. Although I could've done without the Florida license plates, they did give me cover for driving the giant rental vehicle verrrrrryyyyyy slowly on our tortuous country roads. (I'm an old lady from Florida, see?) We were able to get to and from school, buy some sorely needed groceries ahead of yet another snowstorm, pick up pain meds from the veterinarian. This act of kindness was a lifesaver, a game changer. It truly made a difference in a family's life. Thank you, Adrien and team. Total heroes. read more

Very rude worker by the name of abby or ab gave poor information and didn't even let me finish talking and hangs up in my face the manger mat need to fire him. I called back and some lady gave better information than him. Had reservations to pick up a car I put the wrong time so I called to see if I can change it over the phone or cancel and re make a reservation and the rude guy Abby or ab picks up saying call back tomorrow we don't have any cars right now so I said even if I have a reservation already he continues on to say the same thing then hangs up in my face.. read more

If I could offer minus 100, I would. Just DON't Go here!!!! My car broke so I rented a car to get to Logan for an overseas trip. When I picked up the car, the man mentioned bringing it back that day. I told him I'd be on my way out of the country and needed one way so I rented a car for one way with same day drop off at Logan Airport. He said the rate I was quoted was low. That's what I was quoted. Why not then negotiate? There was obviously a problem. BUT, I just said the car wasn't coming back here or today, I needed one way, drop off at Logan on the same day. He printed the paperwork and handed me my keys. The car with full tank was returned that day to Logan--October 14th. On the 18th, I was charged $758.77 for a weekly rental with a failure to return it to the same place. A four hour rental. He knew I thought I was renting one way, same day rental return to Logan. Why not renegotiate my contract before sending me? I have a public presence and will share this as often as I am able. I'll do whatever else I can. There is NO reason to EVER rent a car from this Hertz. The could have made a good amount of money with an ethical rental. I should have read everything. I know that. Do you? We had a very clear five sentence interaction and 4 hour car ride that cost this much. 758.77. Thieves. This was intentional. I was the first customer in the morning with no one waiting. So slick. Been using this location for about 2 yrs. Has always been a good experience and find them professional.

The guys at this location have always taken good care of me. While small and not a good selection, I usually get a decent rental. Matt and Sal are great to work with.. Friendly and knowledgeable , and will go the extra mile to ensure I am pleased. I do think the company should invest a bit in sprucing up this location and of course expanding it for more space, though they are landlocked in current location. Would want it to stay close by, and always near I84 for convenience. Thus the 4 star rating vs 5. read more

DO NOT do business with this company!! I rented a vehicle for 3 days and the employees at Hertz told me how long I could keep the car and what time I had to return it before there would be any additional charges. I brought the car back a DAY EARLIER than the time they told me and they charged me for an extra $74. I called and complained to Hertz stating what the employees told me and they said there is nothing they could do about it. This company is SCAMMING people and I'm sure they're doing this on a regular basis to their customers. I'm not the kind of person to write reviews neither good or bad, but I had to take the time to let people know about this dishonest company that takes advantage of their customers. read more

The Danbury Hertz office was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. The man started off very friendly and glib. When I had an issue with my credit card he quickly became morose. The office was small and dingy and smelled. And the two guys at the front were slovenly. The only reason I went there was because Enterprise ran out of cars. They have smartly dressed professions. Hertz was like going to some creepy joint. I had an issue with my credit card limit because I had enough for the amount on the contract but he said they needed to charge an extra $200--not stated on the contract. Because of budgeting I mostly use my debit card which had plenty of money in it but they would take that. And I had over $1200 in cash--nope. It wasn't so much the policies but how I was treated there. I ended up leaving and walking 3 miles home. I canceled my reservation when I got home and got a Budget car rental. Will never visit a Hertz again. read more

If I could have provide a zero star rating, I would have. I have been a Hertz Gold customer for many years. Never have I experienced such a low level of service as I just did with the Tooley Lane office in Danbury, CT. I returned the car with a full tank of gas, was charged the fuel purchase option and when I called to discuss with the branch manager, I was treated rudely and disrespectfully. No wonder Hertz is in trouble and more people are using Uber and Lyft. Hertz service used to be top notch but that has changed. I will be using other rental car companies in the future. read more

I was shocked when I saw the low rating on yelp for this Hertz location. There are always rules in the car rental biz which must be maintained and I suspect that pisses some people off but I have to say the staff at this outlet has always been friendly capable and as accommodating as they could be at all times. The service here FAR exceeds that at major airports from LaGuardia to LAX and I consider them friends. I DO rent a ton of cars and I'm sure that has something to do with how I'm treated so well, but over the years--and wholesale changes in staff and leadership--these guys and gals are still the best in my book. HERTZ screwed up my rental in that they somehow switched my information with another car, so that I was billed for going through tolls when I wasn't even in the same state. This location was completely unable and unwilling to help me out with this and frankly at this point it seems intentional. I rent a car for a week, and during that week the ezpass that is billing to my car is used in a state that I wasn't even in? Hmmmm. read more

This danbury location sucks Adrian was nice at first to cover for his other employees rude attitude, after keeping in communication with returning the vehicle I let him know we would be there 2 minutes after the 6pm returnbox becuase of traffic. I call to let them know and they said okay drop it in the drop box and still charged me an extra day for the rental that I already returned. They were rude when I called about it then Adrian said he was a district manager (which he probably just a manager) and that I dropped it off 2 minutes past 6 and thats not his problem. Oh and the other employee Tyler is rude to most customers who call the store. The funny part is their commission is based from customer satisfaction LOL. I am very unsatisfied and they will be hearing from their corporate soon read more

When my car broke down late in the day, Hertz Rent A Car saved me. They stayed open late, came and picked me up at the auto repair shop and when we got back to the office, they even upgraded my car. When I wanted to pick up my car and return the rental, it was also very late in the day. (My work hours ya' know.) Once again they stayed open late for me. They didn't have a driver this time, so they call a Lyft car for me and paid for it as well. I would highly recommend Hertz Rent A Car in Danbury. read more

After multiple calls to Hertz over the last month trying to get the over charge issues resolved, I was told that there was no record in their system of the extra charge and to dispute it with my bank, even though the charge on the statement says Hertz Rental Cars. So that is what I am in the process of doing now. Once again this will definitely be my final go around with hertz. read more

Picked up a car from the airport, returned here. The guy at the airport sold me the full tank of fuel prepay option, the guy at this location noticed it would be cheaper to charge it a different way with the fuel level I returned it, and took off the extra charges. Huge disappointment. As soon as I opened the door the man behind the counter said it's going to be at least 30-45 minutes before I can assist you. I had a reservation for 11:00am and arrived on time. It reminded me of the classic Seinfeld "anyone can take a reservation, but the key is holding the reservation." He explained he needed to wash cars before he could help me...seriously? I could see if I was a walk-in, but I made this reservation 3 weeks ago for a business trip. I didn't end up leaving the location until 45 minutes later and the vehicle he provided only had a quarter tank of gas..the long wait time and need to stop for gas caused me to reschedule my meeting and arrive late. Easy and fast car rental. Picked up the car at the Rental site. Easy access to Route I-84. Car was ready as promised. Clean and had a full tank of gas as promised. Used AAA to reserve the car. Easy return and no issues with bill. read more

I rented a car from them. first of all they charged my car a 50.00 deposit twice. When I returned the car I paid my full bill, now I see that my account has been charged another 50.00 and 127.00 charge and a 429.00 charge. I called to speak to Stephen( the representative who took care of me) wand the branch Manager Alex answered the phone and did not put him on the phone. so when I stated about the charges he states " I am sorry I cant help you" or even look at your account you need to call out billing department. Like really I went to rent a car at Hertz location 1 Tooley Lane Danbury CT. and Stephen was the one who take of me and now I cant talk to him about my account. Never ever use #Hertz Rental Cars in Danbury. I rented a car from them in June for 3 days. I made an online reservation that included insurance. When I went to pick up the car, the agent behind the desk saw no record of the insurance as part of my reservation and quoted me the price without insurance. When I stated that I wanted the insurance he stated he added on a policy for $20+ dollars. Lo and behold, despite the receipt I received from the agent, later that day I checked my credit card receipt to find out that I was charged for both insurances...the one bought online and the one the agent tacked on. When I attempted to call Hertz Danbury, they were closed for the day, so I called the corporate office who told me they couldn't fix it and I would have to call the insurance company directly...The insurance company then told me they couldn't change or cancel the policy as my trip had already started. What??? And now...a month later in July...I just had a Hertz #PlatePass toll charge for $22 show up on my credit card statement! The problem? I returned the car in June and NEVER incurred any tolls during my 3 day rental period, as I used the car for local driving only, to get to and from work...from 84 in Danbury to Carmel. Poor service! Unwilling to accommodate. Didn't have a car at time of pick up. Told me I could pick up at one pm then said they didn't have any vehicles on the lot and may have to wait until five pm they weren't sure when their cars would be available. I got there when they called and could not rent me a car. I got a ride to Enterprise and had a car in ten minutes. Hats off to Enterprise!! Do not rent from hertz! Rental went very easy. Only one minor complaint and that may have just been the car. I couldn't push the headrests down for a clear line of sight to the back window so I ended up putting the seat down. Otherwise, it went very well for me. Reservation was ready.
