I highly recommend Hertz. The guy who helped me, I believe his name was John, was a pleasure to work with. He was very kind, funny and got me into a great rental in time for my daughters first day of school. He made a stressful time (having my catalytic converter stolen for the THIRD time!) that much easier to deal with because, yay! There are still good people in the world. He has worked there for a while and it sounds like it can be a stressful and even dangerous job, to say the least. So can we all try to be nicer to employees? I made a reservation with Hertz for pickup on 04/20/26 at 12:00 PM. Hertz gives customers a two-hour window to pick up reserved vehicles, so I arrived well within that timeframe. When we got there, the front door was locked, and we were told through the window that there were no vehicles available. An employee I have rented from many times asked to see my reservation, which I showed him on my phone. He stated that he had already informed the third-party booking company that there were no vehicles available. However, no one from Hertz contacted me to let me know my reservation could not be honored. I then noticed at least 20 vehicles parked in the back and behind a fence and recorded them on my phone. When I asked about those vehicles, I was told they were all reserved. I explained that this situation was costing me a significant amount of money and creating a major inconvenience. Instead of showing professionalism or empathy, the front office employee laughed at me and said, "That's why you aren't getting a car." He was correct -- I did not get a rental car from Hertz that day, despite having a confirmed reservation. I have been a loyal customer for years, but after this experience and the way I was treated, I will NEVER rent from this location or any Hertz again. read more

Avoid Hertz. This was my first time renting with them and sadly my last. Half our party couldn't make it, so I downsized the vehicle and changed my original reservation. Hertz then called to tell me they didn't have the vehicle I reserved. I was completely understanding and still chose not to cancel. Even though at this point I didn't really need he vehicle any longer. When I called the branch, the employee was incredibly unprofessional and literally yelled at me for changing a reservation their own system allowed me to change and gave me a confirmation. He even asked how I had done that.... After downsizing, I was somehow quoted 1.5 times more than my original reservation. I rented a compact car and they gave me Chevy bolt. I requested a gas vehicle which they said they can't because of the reservation. They stated I can swap with another location. They said I had to call to figure it out and arrange the swap. I called 4 locations in my driving route and they all said they don't anything available. Those locations said this location has to meet my demands even when I said I will pay for an upgrade. Next I just went with the car and as soon as I got in the vehicle I could tell that it was a previous smoker. I said I will accept a car that smells like that. They still said they can't swap. So 45 minutes later after asking for a manager who was there the whole time. He made the swap to another vehicle with ease. I requested to speak to someone else or a manager over 30 minutes ago and the "manager" was just walking around the whole time. My next vehicle was a good one. I will not use this location again. Hertz Car Rental on N. Texas St. in Fairfield, California, provided me with the worst service I have ever experienced from a rental car company. I am 54 years old and have rented cars all over the country and the world, and I have never dealt with such incompetence. Four hours before my scheduled pickup, I received a call from a representative named Nick, who told me they had no vehicle available for my reservation. When I questioned this, he dismissively stated, "A reservation is not a car." My reservation was for a full-size pickup truck classified as "elite," but I told him I was fine with any vehicle as long as I had one by noon. Nick assured me he would follow up to let me know whether I should come to the location--but he never called back. Thirty minutes before my scheduled pickup, I called again, only to be told there were no cars available. The lack of communication and accountability was appalling. If you truly need a rental vehicle at the time and date you reserved, avoid this Hertz location! They do not honor reservations and provide unacceptably poor service. read more

Worst rental experience using Hertz Fairfield. I booked the rental at this location two months prior to my departure date upon showing up to the office. There was a note on the sign saying they were closed and sending us to Vallejo. We received no prior communication that they were going to be closed and was not able to speak to anybody at this location. Upon calling Hertz Vallejo that did not have the vehicle we had rented and instead offered a ram 2500 to drive to LA. Additionally, they did nothing to help us find another vehicle that would match our rented one. We were forced to drive to SFO to get a van and play double our price Hertz has done nothing to make this situation right. Usually only 1 person working the counter, so expect to wait if there are people ahead of you or if the attendant was on the phone. The attendant that helped me when I picked up the car was pleasant and so was the one that helped me when I returned the car. There is someone else working, but they may be running around getting the cars ready or processing returns, etc. I booked the manager's special and was only offered an electric car, no option for a gas powered car. Options were a Kia Niro electric or for an up charge, a Tesla. I chose the Kia since I didn't want to pay extra for a Tesla. The attendant that helped me when I picked up the car was pleasant and so was the one that helped me when I returned the car. I booked the car on Priceline and the price I was quoted on Priceline was $472.89, but when I got there, the price I was told was $488.15 which is $15.26 more than what was quoted on Priceline. I was in a hurry when picking up the car, so I did not have time to argue about the price. The other thing I was not happy about is that the "electric" car did not come with a charging cable! How do you expect to rent out an electric car and not provide a charging cable?! I was told to just search for charging stations nearby on the car's GPS and I can charge at the charging station of my choice. If I was a tourist staying in a hotel, then I guess a charging cable would not be necessary, I but I live in town and got the car due to my car is in the shop, so it would have been nice to be able to charge the car at home without having to wait for the car to charge at the charging station. The plus is that I was told I could bring the car back at 80% charge (94% when I picked it up). I don't appreciate the discrepancy in price and the fact that they only allowed me to choose an electric car, but not provide a cable to charge it with! read more

I called Thursday night to make sure a vehicle would be available in the morning, I informed the representative I did not want an electric vehicle because of my last rental experience. When I arrived during my appointment time the representative advised that they only had 1 electric vehicle and it cost $51 and my insurance was only covering $22 a day , no one called me and told me that there wasn't any vehicle in stock. The manger John was very rude and unprofessional. I was stranded and had to catch an Uber . I was late to work . Al is the gentleman I worked with and he is super! Al is very helpful, very patient and made me feel at ease after a stressful trip from Upstate New York to California. Met John whom is funny and helpful also. We were given a ride by Robert to pick up our vehicle. Robert is a quiet gentleman with a relaxed approach. I needed a rental quick due to a mechanical situation with my daily driver. Used their app to reserve the vehicle. Hertz confirmed the reservation at this location. I usually rent through Hertz across the US for work trips, so I expected this experience to be the same. Took a Lyft to this office. I walked in and the room smelled like weed. Ok, I can ignore that. The guy at the counter at first said there was no reservation for me. Then found it but said he had no cars. I said that I had reserved through the Hertz app and they confirmed it. He said I should have called them directly. (???) I've never, in the 14 years I've rented through Hertz, had to call a site directly, and even if you do- you are routed to the national call line. So used the Enterprise app and they got me a car in 5 minutes. Walked down the street to enterprise and picked up my vehicle. No fuss. No problems. Moral of the story- don't rent from here. I believe that this Hertz location should be relocated and re-staffed with a focus on customer service and quality assurance. This is my second time receiving a Hertz rental due to AAA reserving while my vehicle is being repaired. The Fairfield office is filthy, with poor lighting and personnel that seem to be incredibly unmotivated. Today I received a rental car that could not have been cleaned in the recent past. There was some type of dried up juice material on the inside of the drivers side. The windows were smeared, it smelled of funk and smoke (like someone had been living in it. I called the office and the person that answered showed complete disinterest in seemed to be on auto pilot with monotone replies. I'm not sure if AAA has a long term contract with these guys or are limited to what is available locally. But rest assure, I will not be doing any business (direct or indirect) with this Hertz location in the future and advise to steer clear of it. read more

To anyone needing a rental car, DO NOT & i repeat DO NOT go to Hertz on North Texas. We had a reserved a vehicle to pick up at 12 and we werent able to get there until 1, at which they had already given our vehicle away. They told us we were late, and when we told them we came as soon as we were able to get here and that nowhere in our confirmation email did it state that there was an allotted window before your car would be given away, they continued to speak over us and tell us we were late and there's nothing they'll do. I understand there are no shows and they need to rent out the vehicles, but an hour later...for a reserved vehicle? Even though it guarantees the car you reserve ...and then no attempt to help us but just straight attitude right off the bat? So I decided to check out some reviews and wasn't surprised to see multiple other people had similar complaints of not being able to pick up their car that they RESERVED IN ADVANCE due to them giving them out to other people. But they're were ALSO many other complaints about the Manager John! Similar complaints to what we experienced which shows that's just the type of manager he is. Very unprofessional and rude with a bad attitude. He had no intentions of solving the situation and instead just kept up the bad attitude and snarky comments with his "I don't care" attitude. He then tried to tell us that upper management came and took most of their cars. But didn't feel the need to let any of the customers who had reservations for that day know in advance. There was even another customer inside dealing with the exact same situation when we came in. (He reserved a car, even received a phone call this morning confirming, and they gave his car away and dismissed everything the man said.) he even looked at us when John walked off and said he had a bad attitude. This place is a damn mess. Boyfriend put in a reservation about 2 months ago to get a compact for a rental. Checked in with them a week prior to make sure things were still looking good. Shows up on the day of pickup and they screwed up because there werent any compact cars so he was given a standard for no additional cost. Fine by us but of course this causes problems later. We get a Hyundai Elantra with scratches on the sides and it has 3/4 full of gas. We had a place with this car because we went to several beaches. The day we turned it in it had about 26 miles left before gas was empty which seemed perfect because there's gas stations nearby and Hertz wouldn't drive too far to fill up the tank again. They tell my boyfriend he has to clean up the sand or he'd get charged the cleaning fee. You guys are already gonna clean it so why do we need to clean the sand?? Maybe if you had removable mats we wouldve been able to clean the sand off but the car didnt have that so we didnt think there was a need to go through the trouble of vacuuming it. Whatever. They tell my boyfriend he can drop it off the next day for no additional cost. The next morning my boyfriend takes the clean car back and they tell him he needs to return it with the same amount of gas that it came with. What?? Why would he add gas to a rental car?? They almost didn't let him take it to a gas station and wanted to upcharge the gas from their end which would've amounted to $9 a gallon versus the $3 a gallon at the nearby gas stations. They eneded up letting him take the car to the gas stations himself. He comes back and they try to charge him for the additional day it took him to bring the car and for having a standard rental car instead of the compact! Are you guys idiots? YOU screwed up not having the compact car and let us have a standard for no extra cost and you told us we can return it the next day because you're too lazy to clean a rental car that is pretty much already clean except for a little sand. They ended up not charging for the standard car and for the additional day but cmon get it together. Be more organized and customer oriented. Who wants to spend money on gas for a car they wont use again? Who wants to clean sand out of a car they had fun in after theyre done with it? You guys suck and dont know what youre doing. read more

I drove to the location and demanded for a different car due I'm on schedule going to Los Angeles for a wedding. Don't even know where to start with this place! Absolute garbage!!! My wife and I were sent here by our insurance company to get a car while ours is being fixed. We arrived at hertz at 8:30 there's already five people in line. It then took another hour and a half to get rental. There was only one person working and five other staff members walking around. I don't what they were doing and why all the staff 100 years old working with an even older and slower computer system? It took 15 minutes for the contract to print. This rental car company rented me a car with grinding brakes on Friday Dec 16th 2023. I did freeway driving and came home and called them to come pick it up because of the dangerous brake situation and they picked it up right away. I was told I would be reimbursed for part of the rental and my $250 deposit would be returned. Then 2 months later I was charged another $250 on my credit card and when I called the fairfield office they knew nothing about it and told me to call the billing number which was never answered after more than an hour in the recording loop. It's hard to reach anyone in this business as hold times are super long. I disputed with my credit card but they said I signed for this back in December. It was my first time renting a car from Hertz of Fairfield. My car insurance actually was paying for it after my car was hit by another car and the auto body shop had reserved a car. I dropped off my car at the auto body shop on a weekday and I was told it was best to pick up my reserved car (only 2 doors down) while the paperwork was being processed. The gentleman at Hertz was courteous and respectful. Luckily I arrived the time I did because there were only 2 or 3 cars left (a Friday) and the one that was handed to me was compact which is fine because I'm short. The white car was clean on the inside and outside for the most part except for a few smudges on the exterior. The interior had an odor but it was nothing a car freshener couldn't fix. I only drove it around Solano County so obviously didn't go over the mileage they had set aside before I would get charged more. I filled it to half tank since it was given to me with a 1/2 tank, took it to a touchless car wash and brought it back the following Tuesday without a problem. The young lady that was working at the desk was professional and respectful. Their lot was pretty full on a Tuesday. They might consider moving to a larger lot as it seems there is a large demand for rental cars. read more
