I'm impressed by the young, professional NICE staff at the Mt. Vernon Hertz. I've had a horrible experience getting a rental while my vehicle is being repaired.... dealing with other rental spots. People were either too disinterested in helping, clueless or tired of Life. Not great for business. But the nice employees at this Hertz renewed my faith in young peoples work ethic. From the moment I spoke to 1 staff member I felt someone was really trying to help and it only got better once I was there. I could go on and on.. but you get the idea. This is by far the worst location (new rochelle train station) I have been to and a clear reminder of why I do not rent from Hertz. After walking in, no one bothered to greet us or acknowledge anyone was in the store. After about 15 minutes of watching employees walk by we were finally helped. It was a speedy process. But the car was filthy, there was even children's toys left in the vehicle. And it smelled like smoke. They claimed they didn't have any more cars and I had no choice but to take it. I really think they believed they cleaned the car. I purchased Lysol wipes and after wiping down the steering wheel and door handles the wipes were black......yuk! This staff needs to be trained extensively on customer service and cleaning. read more

This is a decent pick up location. My wife dropped me off, and it was easy to pick up. Yet a guy in the line told me of the crazyness to drop off (hard to find) so be warned. I didn't pay attention to how you get in (enter garage) but . . .you better look that up before you come What I really hate is having a reservation, and then having to wait 20minutes to get a car. Very annoying. That is the 2 star, for not having a process to get us into our cars quickly. Every guy had to leave the counter and either check-out or check-in a car. If I would of dropped off here, I would of wanted to strangle someone. So 2 stars for being slow read more

Actually somewhat conveniently located -- a few minutes walk from the metro north. The customer service is kind of weak, but the rates are lower than the surrounding branches. The gas station closes at 10pm, so you can return your car early. HOWEVER, after returning my car, I was charged an $85 "interior cleaning" fee. I know for a fact I didnt leave any trash in the car, so they basically charged me $85 to vacuum out any dirt. WTF. Ive rented a car almost a dozen times in the past year and never been hit with a cleaning charge. Not happy. Ive cancelled two additional reservations from this branch, and in future Ill stick with enterprise. read more

We rented from this location this weekend for the first and last time. The staff was slow to check us in and the return process took more than 20 minutes. This has never happened at other hertz locations. We rent exclusively from them 3+ times a month and have mostly had good experiences. The worst thing was the condition of the car. The interior smelled like marijuana and was very dirty. It was clearly not cleaned since the previous renter. Also, there were lots of panhandlers in the area where we were picking up the car. The entire process was overall unpleasant, unnecessarily long, and the staff was way more preoccupied with their conversations between each other than taking care of waiting customers. read more

I have rented from this Hertz location since January 2006 and up until recently, it has been a pleasant experience. In the span of two rentals (within less than a one month time period) the following has occurred: 8/2/2010 (a.m.) rental car returned with 5/8th of a tank of gas, as it was when picked up. Left keys behind the counter, with rental contract upon returning the car. 8/6/2010 (a.m.) received email statement of charges, to include a 75.97 fuel charge. 8/6/2010 (a.m.) called Hertz location. Was told their file showed that the car left on a full tank and was returned on half. When I mentioned the discussion about the level of the gas gauge I had with the person that handed the car over, the Hertz employee inquired further and stated I was in fact correct. 8/11/2010 (a.m.) called Hertz location to find out the estimated date the credit would be applied to my CC. Hertz employee took my name and number and said she would get back to me. No returned call was received. 8/12/2010 (a.m.) called again to inquire about estimated date 75.97 credit would be applied. Was told 7-10 days. 8/16/2010 (a.m.) second rental car returned with 8/8 of a tank of gas, picked up with 7/8 of a tank. Left keys behind the counter, with rental contract upon returning the car. 8/17/2010 (a.m.) Credit Card has an additional 70.00 hold, in addition to the initial hold. Called Hertz. Employee didn't show that my rental was closed out. Promised a returned call. None received. 8/20/2010 (a.m.) received email statement of charged, to include 65.18 for a fuel charge. 8/20/2010 (a.m.) called Hertz location. Asked for the manager. Employee said "speaking". Asked if the new standard was to charge people an automatic fuel charge if they just dropped their keys behind the counter for a rental agreement. Was asked for my name, phone number and rental agreement number which was provided and told I would get a phone call back. None was received. 8/21/2010 (a.m.) called Hertz location. Was told by the person who answered the phone he wouldn't be able to help me with a billing question and to call 800 654 4173. The billing department at corporate Hertz is closed on the weekends (8/21/2010 is a Saturday). Called back and asked for the manager. Was told he wouldn't be in until Monday. Asked for the person who told me she was the manager. She was with a customer outside (and obviously lied about being the manager) and she would call me back. I have yet to receive the credit from the first billing error. It is making me rethink which company I should use for my continued rental needs. I really don't have the time or patience to babysit a correction every time I rent a car. It takes away from the reason for renting it (relaxation time to get away with friends). One mistake I can overlook and keep on top of until it is fixed. But two in such a short time span? This is either just plain careless or a way for Hertz to make some extra money on the side, in hopes that the overbilling will be overlooked. read more

here's the thing, these places are in this business to make money. Obviously!!! Just be careful that you're not gullible enough to buy everything and anything they offer you. I reserved my car online and prepaid on Wednesday then went to pick it up Friday afternoon. There was no line and the process took about 20 minutes. Of course they're trying to rent me more expensive cars and other types of insurance but I just politely declined (I don't have my own car insurance so I bought the loss/damage protection). I made sure I looked at their computer screen to see the breakdown. Don't be afraid to ask. It's your money after all. Anyway, I got my car which was clean and in fantastic condition. I had an issue finding a port but one of the agents was very helpful. I returned the car Sunday morning. The agent tried to tell me I owed a certain amount when I knew damn well that I owed much less than that. The agent told me on Friday exactly what was owed upon return and that's exactly what I planned on paying. After about 10 minutes of the run around, all was corrected and I paid my balance. Despite that, it was an easy pick up and easy return. I have no major complaints about this company since I did not have a bad experience (unlike my mother who swears she'll never go back there. Apparently they were dishonest in explaining their pricing). Just make sure you pick the type of car you want ahead of time and research their insurance or protection offers if you don't have your own. Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions. Read the paperwork and contract carefully BEFORE you sign it. Don't be that customer who is easily persuaded into buying things you don't or won't need. Four stars for location, prices, car cleanliness, full tank of gas, company hours and mannerism (a little pushy but they were very friendly and helpful despite the fact that I was not that gullible and easily persuaded customer that companies like to make money off of). Real rating is ZERO STARS! What is the point of reserving a car ahead of time if you're going to have to wait over an hour to get a car that's NOT clean and looks like it has been through hell. There were only two other customers besides myself today. This is the third time using this location (it's the closest to me) and the service is consistently poor. I've visited a lot of hertz locations. NONE as terrible as this place. There are two lines, each are fully packed for returns and pick up yet one person at the counter. People's frustrations are mounting in line and I can understand why. I've been waiting for 30 minutes now and have not moved in line. Picked up a car here in October 2012. The two African American males working the desk did their best to avoid helping us, AND they actually tried to stare us down! They just stood there glaring at us with daggers in their eyes! It was hilarious because these two "tough guys" were about as intimidating as Ernie and Bert from Sesame Street! Anyway, the Latino desk clerk, and the Asian desk clerk, both male, at least made an effort to do their jobs. We had a problem with a seat-belt, and they fixed it for us. They also moved a car that was blocking us in. Overall, the experience was pretty pathetic. read more
