First of all, everyone was nice- this has nothing to do with the staff. I actually feel terribly bad for them because they are sitting ducks. How has a car rental business lasted all these years if they have no cars to rent?! Why would the website allow you to make a reservation if there's nothing to reserve? It's just the most ass backwards thing I've ever seen. The staff looks so stressed out and miserable- they JUST hired a second person to help get the cars from other lots. Before that, it was one person all the time and they had to lock up the office to leave and pick up cars. I got so sick of waiting I just left. I felt like I was going to have a panic attack. They knew my husband was in a bind, because the other driver in an accident my husband had hasn't claimed responsibility yet, so we had to pay for the rental out of pocket. My wife booked a rental from here yesterday for today. First, we show up to the location that was in Foxborough just to find out that there was no one there. Second, when we called and spoke a rep, they told us "oh sorry you should have gotten a phone call but we currently don't have any cars available". Did we ever get a phone call, email, or text? Nope. My wife purchased the insurance and they told her that since it's "third party" she will need to call them to get a refund and never offered to help her. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I went to rent from Hertz, and booked online. I got a confirmation number and email. About an hour before pickup time, I called the local agent to confirm how late they were open until. At this point, they told me they had ZERO cars available. Not good. I was then forced to go to a competitor (Enterprise). Now comes the INFURIATING part. I just got BILLED by Hertz for $32.00 (presumably a cancellation fee?). Under no circumstances did I cancel, basically they cancelled on me. What an UNETHICAL company for doing such a thing!! Even worse yet, the 800 number I called to try to rectify this had me on hold for 74 minutes, then the customer service rep couldn't have been more unhelpful and uncaring about the situation! This is the 2nd time I tried to rent a car from them. The first time was for 3 days and was told that online will show there are cars when they don't have cars. I rented another one for this weekend for a week to go to a wedding and a memorial service in Michigan and was told by voicemail today that there's no cars available when we booked it 2 weeks ago. I tried to call back multiple times and was asked to be placed on hold was on hold for 20 minutes then was disconnected I called back 6 more times and was hung up on twice and then the other times there recording told me no one is available place is a joke now have to purchase 5 airline tickets last minute. Wasn't going to write a review despite them screwing me over multiple times, but a recent incident really topped the icing on the cake and I just need to warn you before you choose your rental services to be here. This place is unprofessional, deceitful, and greedy. Lie #1: Got into a car accident Jan 2020 and I chose this location to rent a car thru my car insurance. At the time when I called them ~10am, the Hertz guy told me over the phone "oh yeah, we have plenty of cars here for you to choose from, just come down" - I clarified to him that I won't be able to stop by until the late afternoon - he said "that's fine we will have cars available." When I got there, the only car available was a dodge caravan... the other car on site had issues with the windshield wiper. How nice. I feel most comfortable driving a sedan or a medium sized SUV - but the only option was a large van? No thanks. They eventually had to contact another branch and got me a Toyota Yaris but that took an additional hour of my time. Had to go back to the location once the Yaris actually arrived. Unprofessionalism #1: After driving the Yaris for one day, I felt unsafe driving that car on the highway so I asked if I could switch for a larger sized sedan. They were able to get me a Nissan Sentra with a Michigan license plate. Shortly after leaving the Hertz location, I realized there was no registration with the car. I called at 11:50am to inquire about it on a Saturday - mind you they close at 12pm. The guy picked up the phone, went back and forth with me saying useless info and put me on hold until 12pm and the phone disconnected. Very professional. I work in customer service and I know that a good employee would give customer closure/answers rather than just ditch the phone as soon as closing time rolls around. Lie #2: I travel thru the NH toll every day for work. I have an easy pass transponder with my original car and temporarily set it on the rental for one month. My car repair end up taking over a month to be finished and being busy with work and life, I forgot to extend the duration of my rental easy pass transponder. That was my fault and a hard price to pay. I'll tell you why. My dad had warned me that Hertz rips ppl off when it comes to tolls. I had gone for about 3 weeks thru the toll without my easy pass transponder enrolled. The day I returned my rental to Hertz Attleboro location, I spoke to the "manager" or an "employee" - I should've asked for his name. I asked him SPECIFICALLY, to forward me the toll invoice because I will pay it - with NO additional BS fees. I told him the situation with the easy pass transponder and he said yes we will send you the toll invoice and he reassured me no additional costs would come with it - JUST THE TOLL BILL. Early April rolls around, I get an invoice in the mail for it. I owed $33 in tolls for 3 weeks - great I'll pay it in a heartbeat. The lie? Hertz CHARGED ME $71.40 for "administrative fees." So in total? How much did I pay to Rip off Hertz? $104.40 ($33 tolls + $71.40 for their administrative fees). Thanks for the deceitful reassurance, Hertz Attleboro. I paid the bill and learned my lesson. Thought my car issues with this place was done when I paid my bill in early April but I guess not. Unprofessionalism #2: On April 29, 2020 I woke up to a straight up charge on my credit card of $818.27 - it wasn't even a pending charge. It was a 100% processed charge on my account. And the sad part is I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHY THEY WOULD CHARGE ME. That morning driving to work, I had so much anxiety wondering why I was charged so much, no heads up, and in the midst of the coronavirus when times are tough financially. How greedy can you be? And not even tell your customer the reason for the charge? Contacted my auto body shop, they were great and told me that this was a glitch, Hertz going thru new management/teams and that this was an accident. Did Hertz Attleboro contact me to apologize? No. My auto body shop did on Hertz behalf. I don't care if Hertz is undergoing new management or whatever internal issues they're having, learn to communicate with your peers + customers... look at the records before WRONGFULLY charging the customer instead of the insurance. Learn to do your transactions CORRECTLY. The reason why I'm so upset about this $818.27 charge is because the closing date for my credit card is May 6. I'm super afraid this would hurt my credit score if this charge is still present. And to have this additional inconvenience added onto my life is uncalled for. This place needs to close down. Or re-evaluate their work values before they decide to open for business. They fail to do anything right and I will never be renting from this branch again. read more

I placed a reservation nearly 4 weeks before my trip, days before my trip someone called to say whoever placed the reservation made a mistake, they do not have a full-size SUV. They even went on a lie to say, those full-size SUVs are currently on recall until after labor day. I had an issue with getting rental cost reimbursed after a year and long story short, needed a copy of the rental agreement from over a year ago, which is not readily available. The car repair shop (The Pros in Mansfield-big shout out!) reached out to this location for me (Traci went above and beyond considering they actually have nothing to do with the rental) to try and help me get what was needed. Juan from Hertz N. Attleboro worked with Hertz billing directly (was less than pleased with their call center) to try and get me what I need to get my $200 back from the insurance carrier. I am still waiting to find out if he can get it, but at this point, that is irrelevant as he is jumping through hoops to try and help and doing all he can. My parked car got totaled by a front-end loader, and my insurance company hooked me up with Hertz. I wasn't disappointed. The 2013 Kia Optima I rented from them was definitely a chick car, but it did its job. Because of the Holidays and a couple of giant snowstorms, my insurance company was a little slow, so I had the Kia for about 25 days. Throughout that process the manager, Brad, was great to deal with (I had to call him a couple times with questions). There weren't any hidden charges. At a time like COVID and depressing times of not seeing family for a year......HERTZ doesn't give two shits about your life and how their problems impact your rental experience. Finally having family together to drive to Disney I ALWAYS call ahead to my rental place and hotel to confirm what the hold amount is and how much all the costs together at pickup are going to be. This was my first time at hertz. And I called ahead and was told with minor fees(because I'm under 25) and hold it would be $350. I get their and it's $350 + $200 hold. I explained to the manager that I was told I was just paying $350 all together I assumed $200 hold and $150 with all fees and taxes. Turns out the gentlemen I spoke with clearly was confused. My credit card unfortunately didn't have $540 available to hold due to my smaller limit. I work hard for my money and tried to do something special with my family. I asked the manager well u forth ugly I can't put that all on credit cause I don't have that anyway we could waive the minor fees this one? He said no. Then I asked if I could put the hold on my car and pay the rest on debit. He said no. So I followed up with asking if I could put it on my debit but I am not allowed to because I'm under 25. This is ridiculous because of this I lost thousands of dollars on Disney trip and had to cancel and stay home because we had no other means to getting there flights were getting expensive again for 5 of us. The manager couldn't give two shits..... the other employees are very friendly and I know they can only do so much......my biggest annoyance about this experience was that they were clearly busy and had no cars left for people to rent so was waiving the $200 really gonna kill y'all since most of ur renters are over 25 anyways ? I reserved a car online on Monday to pick up 9am Tuesday morning because my car needed repairs and I needed to get to work and run errands after work. I received a call at 8:30am Tuesday telling me that hey don't have any cars available when they open so don't come before 9. So I said ok. Absolutely horrible service. Hertz gave me an unsafe car to drive down the east coast from Massachusetts to Florida. The compact that I reserved was unavailable so they gave me a free upgrade which wasn't wanted because I selected compact for mileage reasons. The car was not cleaned on the inside, had electrical issues, continuously locked and unlocked the doors while driving, missing tire caps, and the tire pressure lights were on. With the doors unable to lock, and being a 25 year old female traveling alone, I was unable to stop at a rest stop safely to rest. I was forced to drive 24 hrs straight through. The vehicle was in need of an oil change and by the time I made it to my destination the vehicle was shaking and the transmission was slipping. I called hertz road side service and they wanted me to drive this vehicle 2 hrs away to the Orlando airport even after they told me it wasn't okay to drive once it was 500 miles over the oil change. I told them I didn't feel safe doing so and I was then told they would tow it but I needed to find my own ride to get an exchange!!! I told them this is unacceptable seeing how the unsafe car was provided by them and they were responsible. I took a cab to Orlando airport only to find out that there were no cars available, even though roadside promised me an exchange. After an hr of waiting I was put inside a midsize vehicle, when I reserved a compact car to start. I needed to take what I could get at this point because I have already wasted two days trying to settle this car issue and had more traveling to do. This vehicle was too large for me and terrible on gas. I called back and told them that I could not successfully drive this vehicle back to Massachusetts and needed a vehicle in the class of which I reserved. I was then directed by road side to the Daytona beach airport and was promised a Nissan Versa or a Toyota Yaris, which are both compact vehicles. After a 2 hr drive from Jacksonville to Daytona I was told again that they did not have a car for me and didn't even know I was coming!!! After waiting again I was put into a Chevy sonic, compact car, and I was finally feeling okay even though my entire family was without me enjoying their vacation. Once I turned on the Chevy I noticed that the vehicle needed an oil change in 100 miles!!! Why would I be given this car when hertz knew I had a 1300 mile drive ahead of me?!? After waiting about another half hour with still another three hour drive back to my original destination I was put into a Hyundai Accent that was pulling to the right and needed an alignment. Within a 7 day period I had been put into 4 different vehicles. I was told my original location of rental would have to compensate. I spoke to the manager of the north Attleboro location in Massachusetts about this and I was offered a $100 credit toward my next rental. This offer is offensive! As if I would ever do business here again!?!After hertz wasted my entire trip, sending me on a wild goose chase for vehicles all over the state of Florida just to be inconvenienced more! I was in the state to celebrate my grandmothers 88th birthday who has fallen ill with dementia and isn't presumed to have many birthdays left. My entire family had traveled to be together from all over the country for the first time in ten years to celebrate this day and I was unable to be a part of this. My entire trip was wasted. Hertz took away time I will never get back. I spoke to the manager again of the north Attleboro location and he told me he would be there when I dropped my car off to speak to me. He was not there. What a surprise, NOT! I can not believe that this company runs their business this way. I have told my story on Facebook and next will be yelp and after that maybe channel 12 news or the better business bureau!!! All they suggested was (Mind you we're on vacation) to take our time to go find a Hertz Place and switch the car to another. I rented a car for 2 day with a coupon for $20 a day & was hit with $156 of charges on my credit card & a $40 fuel charge when I returned it full.someone forgot to check the car in & they billed me extra days. The local office saw the mistake & knew it was their fault but said the only way they can refund is from corporate office . Guess what It took a day to take the $ out of my account but it will take 10 days to get my $ back . The check I write bounced & now I have bank fees. I called the local office and explained that my credit card only has a 300 limit. so they instructed me to prepay for the rental online and that I could pay the remainder with my debit card when I picked up the rentacar. so I paid $261.63 on line and went to the office to pick up my car and Brad the manager told me they didnt except debit cards.No solutions and he wants me to pay a $50.00 fee for cancelling. Called to ask about a $200 hold on my credit card and was told they couldn't help me without a receipt number, even after I told them I have a license number they can reference. I was told the computer can't look you up by name or license. Really???! Then they said, "Oh, its for security reasons." I was told I was charged a three day fee because they were closed on Sundays (rented on Friday afternoon). However, after returning it early Sunday, they still charged a late fee! This office is staffed by the laziest most incompetent crew I've ever seen. I prepaid for a rental online and went to the store a couple of days ahead of time to make sure the car would be there. I went inside and was ignored by the woman at the desk until I approached her. She said that I would have to wait for the manager who was helping someone else. While waiting I noticed that she was just web surfing while ignoring the multiple phone calls coming in. My rental was a total fiasco, the luxury car that I reserved was not there so I was offered a minivan instead or I could sit around and maybe they could get the car that I reserved form another location, 1-2 hours wait time for that. The manager Keith offered me a new pickup that would be at no charge because of the foul up. He also said that the gas would be comped and just bring it back empty. After I returned the vehicle I got charged again for the rental and then another $194 for a fuel charge. After days of trying to contact Keith he said he would take care of it. One month later and he had not reversed the charges. He told me that I would have to contact billing and straighten it out. I got some of the charge reduced but not cleared. I rented a full size car. Upon arrival I was told they did not have one so I was being upgraded. The gave me a KIA soul which I later learned was a midsize. They charged me for a full size. It took over 30 minutes with customer service to get a credit for the difference in cost between full and midsize. They clearly lied to us. read more

When I rented the car I was told to bring it back empty as long as I agreed to pay the $19. in advance which I did. We have done business at this location several times before, but this last experience was terrible. My son had a three day reservation through AAA for an economy car because there was a very important family event he had to get to that morning.. He and his girl were dropped off, in their dress clothes, and their ride left. Somehow, his economy car wasn't available, and all they had available on this day were an upgrade to a Cadillac car, or Lincoln SUV. The lesser of the two evils was the Cadillac for the hefty sum of 95 dollars a day plus taxes, etc, as opposed to the 25 dollar a day he had already pre-paid for. My son informed the manager there that the Hertz AAA Customer Satisfaction Guarantee that guarantees a car available for him, even if they have to upgrade it, yet the manager held firm. When we bought the car back, he again explained this, since we had already talked to Hertz Corporate AND AAA who said he was wrong and would make it right when we returned the car. The manager STILL refused. I called him again later on return day to reason with him, and he STILL would not refund us the extra charges, so we were forced to file our complaint through AAA. Now, almost a month later, I have finally been reimbursed for all of the extra charges they put on our card for what was originally a simple 76 dollar, prepaid 3 day rental. The manager of this Hertz location was wrong in what he did, as told to us by both Hertz Corporate and AAA. It is too bad we had this experience and a month's worth of aggravation, as we would have used them again, but because of these shady tactics and crappy management, and a refusal to honor their Hertz AAA Customer Guarantee (which is clearly written... it's not rocket science) I would be nervous to do business here, unless there was a change in their management. When any person goes to pick up a car, it is obvious they need it to get somewhere.... whether to an event, because their car is out of commission, or because they are leaving on a trip.
