I really wish I could write a negative stars review of this location. Some Hertz people are excellent, and they took them all away and assigned them elsewhere. So here we are, I WILL NEVER RENT AGAIN (and I did ALOT of repeat business). The last straw was, at reservation time, the office was closed. Another person was already swearing up a blue streak with the national number, but she asked my name and my car was ready and in the 24/7 spot. GREAT.... the keys were in it for god knows how long and anyone could have taken it, maybe I should work that scam! The car was absolutely filthy... I routinely take photos with my phone of any issues, so the EXIF data has time, lat and lon.... It was never an issue till this time. I returned the car early, and, with no notice, no warning, was charged $50 for "interior cleaning" of the already filthy car. I called the 800 number but they were unimpressed and simply told me to "contest it with your credit card company". I recommend you shame these companies on social media, Twitter in this case. In about 5 minutes I had 1/2 of the charges reversed, and after posting the photos to my blog, the other half and a healthy discount. The social media people have the real power! Completely disorganized. They were really confused about the reservation and couldn't find it for a while. They have conflicting information on their website versus what they tell you in person. They tried to tell is we'd have to have the car for an extra day because they're not open on sundays. The insurance was supposed to be $11.00 a day when I booked online but when I arrived it was $33.00 per day. The site had allowed me to purchase the rental for another driver but then wouldn't allow that when I arrived. Only one person was working. Never again. read more

Horrible experience with Hertz Location in New Britian (Plainville) I was authorized by my insurance company for a rental car (they would pay $25.00 per day). My body shop was located in New Britian and the closest location I coudl pick was in Plainville. I called and asked for a pick up from body shop location at 5:30pm. I provided the exact address and was reassured that they will pick me up and give me a ride to their rental location. At 6pm (half an hour later), the car pulled over and I was told that this is the car. When I questioned how come they didnt' left me any choices, I was told that this is the only car they have in that location (Ford Focus). I had to call Corporate to complain and the next day my car was changed to Toyota Prius. A week later, I called the same location and asked to be picked up from the body shop as my car was fixed and I wanted to return their car. I was reassured again that they will pick me up at 5:30pm. I called again at 6pm and was reassured again that they are on their way to pick me up. NOBODY SHOWED UP. I had to leave their car at the Body Shop location with the Mechanic. Hertz of Plainville should get 0 stars! They have caused me nothing but anxiety and stress since I returned the vehicle. They are liars and con artists. It started with the day I came in to get my rental after being in a car accident. They had offered me additional coverage to which I asked "How much?" They said $50. Then I asked if it would be ONE TIME FEE, to which they replied yes. Awesome right? NO! I signed for the car and everything was going fine until I returned it. I see on my bank statement a charge on my account for $800. I call them and then they tell me I signed a contract for the additional coverage and it was $50 PER DAY. It angers me bc I specifically asked if it was a one time fee. So I write the manager an email bc of course every time I call she is not in. Very convenient! After writing the email, the next day I see it is no longer on my statement and had been reversed. I called the office to confirm, and they said everything was current and there were no charges to be paid. Fast forward 3-4 weeks after the car had been returned and I go to use my debit card and it is saying my account is overdrawn. I log in to see my account (because this also had to happen the same week as my wedding and right after I paid $10,000 to my venue) and see that Hertz had put a $1,500 charge on my card! I call to ask what is going on and they said the charge was because of the additional coverage I had signed up for. So not only did they charge me for something I did not sign up for, the amount now went up over $600 from the initial $800 they were going to charge me!!!! They refused to refund me my money because I "signed a contract" when all I did was sign a credit card machine to actually get the car. I had to call my bank and issue an unauthorized transaction because they told me the only reason they needed my debit card info was for a $400 refundable deposit, NOT to charge all this money for additional coverage they failed to properly explain to me. They automatically assumed that I was the idiot, and told me that their employee did not tell me it was a one time fee because they are specifically trained to say "per day". I also had someone with me to verify that yes, in fact they did tell me it was a one time fee. They didn't want to hear any of that! I cannot say enough bad things about this place. It has been a nightmare dealing with them, they are rude, and lie right to your face. They con people into signing up for things they did not agree to. DO NOT USE THEM. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!! We had the worst experience with them. We rented a car on a friday our weekend to Vermont, only asking for front wheel drive and being told "we get what we get". Needless to say this car sucked so bad, we couldn't get it up a slightly snowy small hill to our bed and breakfast, we had to park at the bottom and carry our luggage up the hill. And we couldn't get to any of the restaurants we wanted to go to cause the car wouldn't drive on a road where we could still see the pavement but it was snowing on. This situation ruined our vacation and we will never use them again and i will make sure i let everyone i know not to use them including alot of car repair places who im friendly with and use them for customers who need cars during repairs.
