I recently had a deeply unsatisfactory experience with Hertz Car Rentals, at 4400 Youngstown Warren Rd., Warren, OH 44484. As someone who pays close attention to details and works with customers, I was taken aback by the utterly questionable and clandestine nature of their fuel-related billing practices.
Upon receiving the final receipt in my email after returning the economy vehicle I had rented, I was shocked to receive a bill for an additional $97 for what they claimed was the cost of adding fuel to the vehicle. Let me break down the absurdity of this charge:
1. **Fuel Efficiency**: The vehicle I rented is known to have an impressive fuel efficiency of around 36 miles per gallon. I carefully tracked my mileage and only drove a total of 70 miles during the rental period, as indicated by the odometer.
2. **Added Fuel**: Prior to returning the vehicle, I filled the tank myself, adding a mere 1.663 gallons of fuel just a few miles from the drop-off location. This should have been more than sufficient to cover the distance I had driven.
It's baffling how a vehicle that gets such excellent gas mileage and was already filled up by me could possibly require an additional $97 worth of fuel & service. This experience left me feeling like I was being taken advantage of, and it reflects poorly on Hertz as a business.
Hertz Customer Care researched my complaint and ultimately apologized and refunded my $97, but I hope my feedback serves as a warning to others who might consider renting from this company. I expect better from any service provider, especially one in the business of customer satisfaction.
I strongly advise fellow travelers to exercise caution when dealing with Hertz. Take plenty of photos, keep your documentation handy, and be prepared to make your case. This experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, and I hope that by sharing my story, others can avoid similar frustrating encounters with this company. read more
