Horrible results. blotchy uneven stain application which turned out way darker then I wanted, sanding marks and gouges, milky cloudy puddles and lines of demarcation with polyurethane, crack filler falling out, saw dust was so bad it clogged my furnace filter, I could go on but im afraid my little 1 star review won't get me my floors back. read more

Don't do it! Horrible service, terrible communication and a crappy, unfinished job. We were ghosted by this company, and the owner in particular, before the work was finished. Never got any of our money back. Hired another company, The Wood Guys, to fix the mess Hess's guys made and beautifully refinish our floors. Mr. Hess is a man of excuses and he lies! He strung me along for almost 2 weeks after he said he would refinish my wood floors. In the meantime I had turned down 2 other contractors mostly because he said he had 20 years experience and that he would do the job. I believed him. He finally made a commitment and told me he would bring a sander and refinish my floors Monday morning. Of course my rooms had been cleared and were ready but he is a no show! Dan Hess is a con man,He is a preditor he begs for the job,tells a health sob story also uses in the name of Christainity he is a honest man.All the time setting the bait to take half the money up front for the job he never plans to finish.Dan Hess has a pattern of blaming the customer for him leaving the job half finished.I had to hire a skilled floor refinisher to fix the mess that was left by this company.Dan Hess still owes me $800 the refinisher will be with me free of charge to explain to the judge how he had to redo the floors.Glad there was a lot of pictures and video of repairs.This is why I gave this company 1 star. read more

Hess's Affordable Wood Floors did exactly what we agreed on in the time frame discussed. My floors are 100 times better and they did a great job keeping me informed on the progress and cleaned up after the job. I would definitely recommend them. I love my Red Oak Hardwood floors!!!!!!! read more

Im writing this in hopes no one will make the same mistake we did and use this "company". So we did nearly our whole wood floor project ourselves from installing to sanding and staining, the floors looked great! We did run into a problem when we did the polyurethane ourselves, when it dried it had bubbles in it, so we decided lets just have a professional do it (we want to move in!), so we got ahold of this company, and dan came out and looked at it and said he could fix the bubbles, with a screen sand and another coat of polyurethane. He said it would be done in 1 day! Sounded great! So we paid him half, the other half pending us liking the floors. When we went out to look at the floors there was still bubbles all over, maybe 25% better.... he agreed and said he would come back and resand with a lower grit and recoat. This should of been a red flag right here, but I try and give people the benefit of the doubt. Well we went and looked at it after and it was worse than we started... you can see circular scratch marks throughout the whole thing, and there is now three spots one of them quite large where he went into the stain.....so i called him told him i wasnt happy and i was going to go with someone else and he got defensive said he was going to take me to court, and that he has a daughter to take care of, he then changed his demeanor and insisted on fixing it to make it right and said he would screen sand it again and re coat it with polyurethane, and that he had an "idea" of how to fix the spots the stain is missing....... he said pay him the $200 now and then if we like it give him the rest and if we dont then we're done we call it even. so we gave him the check........... he cashed it...... now he wont anwer my calls, respond to my messages or texts.......im highly disappointed in the outcome of this whole situation and his behavior. Dan Hess is a shyster and as unprofessional as they come. He has left my hardwoods with stain marks, my quarter round gouged out, corners with no stain and an entire floor that feels like no poly was applied. He refuses to respond to my calls or texts and has now blocked me on Facebook. Thankfully the job was not paid in full; however, I'm still out a good chunk of change and now have to hire another company. I was going to give him an opportunity to fix it but obviously he doesn't care to do so! I hope no one else gets screwed over by this sad so called man! read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND HESS' AFFORDABLE WOOD FLOOR SERVICE! Wish I would have seen these reviews before hiring him. As stated by another, he is "affordable" because he does a crappy job. My floors are still unfinished five months later! Half my floor is still bare wood no sealant. He also did not scrape out the corners and marred the baseboards and wall paint in several places. I have since had three other wood floor companies come in and quote finishing the job. All 3 said the sanding job was poorly done with "incorrect grit" and will have to be redone. All three also mentioned that the only coating on half the floor was a water based sealant, which in their opinion, was inappropriate. They also confirmed that my floors definitely did not have the 4 polyurethane coats as promised by Dan Hess' Wood Floor Service. After months of multiple phone calls and text messages "promising to make it right," or going unanswered, and/or scheduling a day to come back, only to "no show" yet again, I have since had to hire someone else to finish the job. read more

Had our dark wood floors refinished throughout the kitchen, office, foyer, and bar areas. Overall, Dan was very responsive and started the work as soon as we had the keys to our new house. We paid half up front and half at completion (actually just before). He told us he was going to be traveling to Las Vegas the next day and that we were welcome to come see the floors in their current state (just been sanded and being prepped for final coat of Poly). We were happy at the time and paid him the second half (in cash, as requested). 2 days later, the painters arrived to start the walls. They had to remove all the tape and protective draping, as Dan had "painted himself right out the door." With the tape removed, we found 2 places were his sander had hit the existing wood floor in the neighboring rooms, which are now chipped and without color. We also felt as though the floor needed another coat of Poly, as there are what appear to be dry spots. Our neighbors all agree that another coat is needed. My wife talked with Dan a few times as he promised to come out and fix the damaged room floor spots and would apply another coat of Poly. Quickly though, Dan stopped responding. She kept texting him with no response. I've called and texted him as well, but no answer. We had the floors done in July 2017 and now it's October 2017. Still no response. Would certainly increase the # of stars, if he would finish the job, or at least, answer a call. read more

So last week I left a 1 star review for this companies facebook page because of work not being completed at the job but it looks like he removed his reviews off his page. He told me he had some medical issues and that he would get it done by Wednesday of last week which was ok with me. Ever since then it has been like pulling teeth trying to get him to answer a call or text. When he does contact me its always a "ill be there tomorrow to fix it for you" Well I do see he showed up to my job Friday and still isnt done. He told me Friday that he needed to get a different piece of trim and that he would have it done by Saturday. I just left my house today (Monday) and the job is still incomplete and he is not returning my calls or texts today. Friday he asked me repeatedly to remove my review of his company on facebook but I told him I would only once my job was done. Since then he removed his reviews from his page. I just want the very minimal touch ups and trim pieces finished up. Is this so much to ask for? All in all the floors came out ok, but just dealing with this kind of issue is enough for me to not use this company again. As a recap of what happened: We hired him to sand and stain our floors. He took half up front and half when finished. I made the mistake of paying him the balance before the floors were dry to see the finished work. When I did see it, edges along the trim did not have stain on them, they got stain on the edge of our brand new carpet. stain dripped into the heat vents, and stain was on some of the trim which we had to touch up. He also was supposed to install a transition piece from the tile to the wood floor that was not done. Based on this experience, I can not recommend this company. read more
