My visiting friends rave about the place and took me here. They ate here twice while they were in town for dinner I think it's good if you're not sure where to go and you want something safe and easy, but it's quite mediocre and salty. Also a strange smell when you walk in from the burners they use for the fondue. I would have felt better about the visit if they greeted us less pretentiously when walking in. We had reservations and my friends event called to tell them we are 10 minutes behind, but when we arrived to a mostly empty restaurant, they didn't have the reservation and acted like we were at the Beverly Hills Hotel. They eventually seated us upstairs. After waiting about 10 minutes for a waiter they finally arrived to take the order. It's one of those vibes when you know that you should order the drinks and main meal all at once. My chicken sate was okay. The cheese fondue was nothing to be excited about. The wine was okay. The location is great but there are also many other great places right down the street. Plus side is we got a table and I didn't smell like fondue all night. My friends loved their steak and soup. The front door was propped open which I loved, since the fresh air was nice.

Upon arrival we did not have a reservation but fortunately the host was able to accommodate us and we were able to get a table. The entire experience far exceeded our expectations from every aspect, food, service, and atmosphere! Noted for its selection of fondue we opted for the Swiss and bread as a simple appetizer and split it between us. It was the perfect way to do it. For our entree's I ordered the skewers of chicken in peanut sauce and Ron ordered the chicken in mushroom sauce. Both were delicious and well presented with a side of fries. Service was excellent, attentive in every aspect and the entire staff we encountered were so delightful! When you are in Amsterdam I strongly recommend this restaurant. They have been in business for more than 40 years and you should expect to be delighted too!

The service was great! The Swiss fondue was as well, and they give you a lot fondue! I had asked them if they have anything for my son's birthday, and they came out with this. It's no wonder they are still in business after 40 some years.

I needed a good hearty breakfast that wasn't super duper busy. I found this off the beaten track. I got seated as soon as I walked in. Service was quick. Ordered an orange and a Dutch pancake with bacon, apple and cinnamon. The cool thing about this dish was that the bacon was cooked with/inside the pancake. Not separate. Very unique. Loved it. Not as touristy as other places, which made this place even more relaxing and not as stressful. I didn't feel like the employees wanted me to pay and leave (it happens)

Wonderful restaurant! Would highly recommend this spot. We ate breakfast and dinner here while on vacation in Amsterdam. We had the short ribs, cheese fondue, and baked veggies. For breakfast had the ham and cheese croissant. The service was great and the staff was very friendly.

Expectations fizzled when my dutch pancake arrived. Slightly burnt, lukewarm along with my scrambled eggs. Establishement is short staffed. The older waiter was grumpy, not polite. The younger waiter attentive and considerate of my wants. Business itself is nice, traditional setting.

The Dutch pancake with ham and cheese is delicious. Their signature fondue is fantastic. Cute and cozy inside. This restaurant is great anytime of day- breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Oh. My. Goodness. This meal was absolutely decadent and delicious!!! We got three different fondues to split between four of us. The Karbeel (blend of three cheeses with a tapenade on top), one with parmesan and sun-dried tomatoes, and one with gruyere and mustard. All were served over heating elements. The karbeel was definitely the favorite, followed by the parmesan one. The mustard one was too overpowering but still yummy. They're served with unlimited baskets of bread cubes. We paid extra for some veggies. The menu said roasted veggies but they were raw, and there was also fruit? Misleading, but I actually enjoyed dipping apples in the cheese. I wish there were more options like meat or other veggies for dipping. We had delicious house Chardonnay and were stuffed to the brim. Would love to come back and try the French onion soup. Bonus: adorable bar cat named Simba!

Small cafe with lots of character. Service is slow and pretty inattentive but friendly at least. The cat napping on the table at the front door was adorable. Food is mediocre. Omelette was WAY overcooked, English breakfast wasn't bad but it wasn't anything impressive (sausages were overcooked), toast was hard as a rock. Pancake w/ham & cheese was okay, but wasn't something I would rave about. Lattes were great though, and it looked as though their orange juice was freshly squeezed.

And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

We had a reservation for 9 p.m. The server told us about a three-course menu where you can choose an appetizer, main course, and dessert for €35 per person. It sounded perfect, so we went with that. The fondue was amazing--generous servings and truly delicious. We couldn't even finish the main course because we wanted to save room for dessert. When dessert came, it was around 10 p.m, when the restaurant closes. No other guests had arrived after us, and the tables that were occupied before us were leaving, so we ended up being the last table. The server started cleaning up and resetting the tables, bringing in the outdoor signs, etc. It started to feel like we were being rushed out, which made us uncomfortable. When we asked for the bill, we noticed that "Tip not included" was circled at the bottom. I thought this was odd for Europe, as tipping isn't generally expected unless the service is exceptional. I ignored it, but when the server brought the card machine, he directly asked how much I wanted to pay. I immediately felt pressured to leave a tip, even though I didn't want to due to the rushed experience. I ended up tipping regretfully. The restaurant closes at 10 p.m., and our reservation was at 9 p.m. You are able to make reservations online until 9:45 p.m., so it doesn't seem fair to expect a table to leave in just an hour, especially when ordering a three-course meal and a bottle of wine. We were practically chugging the wine at the end. It was not a great dining experience, and I still feel uneasy about it. Just really not an experience you want to have when trying to have an enjoyable dinner. Quite a shame since the food was very good.

In the front part of the store is a take-out counter where they sell hot items, like sandwiches and baked pastries and desserts, like cheesecakes and cookies the size of your face! It all looked appealing and would've totally purchased a food item, had we not had lunch beforehand. Throughout the store were the cheese samples of the many different various kinds. It goes beyond what you thought gouda could be. There are sheep's and goat's cheeses for many of the different types. There are pesto cheeses that come in different colors like a bright blue and pink. There are cheeses that pair well with the dips that had me thinking about my next dinner party. There's Dutch chocolate here for sale. There's different knives for cutting cheese. There's truly everything here you could imagine for your gouda-filled meal. Staff was super friendly and asked if we needed any help or wanted to know more about any of the different cheeses. For sale, a lot of the goudas are pre-packaged for a pound and meets airline security measures for taking it home with you. I'm glad we stumbled upon Dutch Delicacy. We were able to try so many different cheeses, which I found a few for home. I recommend for anyone visiting Amsterdam to make a stop here; there's a lot of items you'll want to take home with you.
