I just moved to area looking for PCP...I'm a retired nurse. Signing up I was greeted by the most rude, uncaring, and stupid receptionist in the world. Lied to me about my medical records wasn't good enough, wanted a release that I cared not to provide and failed to inform patient's bill of right... actually she did the opposite and denied my right. I was so mad after going home and the next day I called medical records from my previous PCP and told them to shred that release form and Not to send Heywood any records. Do I really want to receive care at a place that has little or no regards to the people trusted in their care? So still looking for quality healthcare in the area if it is at all a thing. read more

We have had several experiences with this hospital. We have been to the emergency room several times for our children. We found the service to be fast and excellent. We have never had a problem. We went to the emergency room this morning for my son. We literally got in with inside of five minutes. They treated him and released him in less than an hour. My father also spent time in this hospital with dementia. They treated him and did a great job. I have zero complaints with this hospital. I would much prefer to go here than some of the larger hospitals in Worcester . read more

This is a review for the emergency room, I have no kind words for these people. Many years with this being the closest option for many of us. For years my family, friends and myself have dreaded having health emergencies and being brought to this nightmare of an E.R. You'll notice when you first arrive every other section is reused rooms or beds in open areas, the floors are covered in trash and used medical items. There is a large amount of filth stains that are on the walls. Staff constantly disregard you and seek to rush you out often without even seeing that you're treated, the entire staff have made it clear they are quiet quitting and to make sure that it's the patients that suffer and not management. What kind of behavior does this quiet quitting cause? it's what all the things we dread and panic over, from being left soaked in urine for hours, to watching people with mental health issues be tormented, mocked and publicly humiliated in front of other patients. To being rushed out of the building while still bleeding from an open wound where an I.V. was just taken out of. Having to return several times to the ER because they claim you're faking, I almost died of low potassium with severe chest pain myself. I had to return to the ER several times in a week until they finally did a blood test and not have me lay in a bed for 6-10 hours clenching my chest in pain. This place should be known for it's history of horror, for it's terrible management, for it's downright cruel and unprofessional behavior. For having an infamy with outside nurses and doctors calling it "a place they wouldn't send their dog to." This place will be in a documentary someday for how it's run. P.S. Heywood was on the news for allowing a patient struggling with mental health issues to wander away with hospital garb and no shoes and police are looking for him worried about his health and safety. read more

Within the past 6 months I have had 2 hip replacement surgeries out of Heywood Hospital. I can honestly say that if I have to be sent for any additional surgeries later on, I will be first going through Heywood Hospital. I honestly have never felt welcomed more by a facility by all of its staff that are helping you to get better. My journey started at Heywood Orthopedics and received nothing but top notch evaluation and care from their entire staff and that carried over to the Hospital where every individual I dealt with was a blessing to their when it was time for my surgical appointments. I was treated as a person and never as a number. The level of care as mine required overnight stays was met with staff that was vigilant and making sure I was comfortable. Everyone in that building gets down to the human level with you. Even when walking around after surgery the facility staff either sweeping/mopping/cleaning even offering to say hello and how are you makes a difference. My experience here is a definite testament that you do not have to go all the way to Boston or even Wor ester to receive adequate and thorough care. It exists here as well in North Central Massachusetts. Thank you to the entire staff for all that you did to help me and to all the help you give others. read more

Absolutely miserable staff and nurses/doctors in the health center for woman as well as the radiology department. Constantly had to deal with unnecessary attitude from these people, talked bad about me in the center of the maternity ward as well after having my daughter, so loudly in fact my visitors heard it an told me about it. Radiology refused to see me due to my infant daughter and upon asking why they said its policy so I again asked why and what the reasoning behind the policy is and she dismissed my question and said because it is. I have never had a good experience here and everyone is miserable all the time. I highly recommend going elsewhere for maternity services. read more

I'm on some medication to slow my heart down. It was prescribed by a doctor from anteconology. It's been a couple years being on it. I started feeling like it's going a little to fast again. So I called to make an appointment with anteconology, I talked to a woman on the phone, she came across snotty and it seem like I had wasted her time. In a snotty way she say you're not a patient of ours. The doctor I had moved to Nashua New Hampshire, you'll have to call there. I said Really! You do realize that you work at a hospital right, not a clinic. And once upon a time, nobody were your patients. So reject someone who's heart's racing to fast. It's been over a year now and I'm still living with it. Back in July in my work parking lot my heart was racing pretty good, I don't know if it had anything to do with it, but passed out Someone found me on the ground I broke 3 ribs my left eye was closed shut my head was laying in a pool of blood. I have been trying to amend my medical record since a nurse falsified a report asserting that I had "discontinued my medications" under the direction of a doctor Floyd. I explained to the "patient advocate," Karla Sund, that I have never been treated by a doctor named Floyd, I have never discontinued my medications and both my pharmacy and my Primary Care Physician can verify that I've been filling all my scripts without any break in continuity. These are the facts. I just received notice from Heywood Medical Group that my request to have my medical record amended has been denied. Translation: A cover- up culture exists at Heywood and they protect their own at any cost. My word as the patient means nothing. The pharmacy record means nothing. The facts mean nothing. Heywood has gone downhill significantly, it used to be a good hospital and typically the level of care I've received met/exceeded expectations in the past. An ER should have a water bubbler, but this one didn't have one for some reason. Good luck asking for a simple cup of water, you will get ignored. In fact, you better bring water and other neccessities from home, because you will be waiting there for a very long time hoping to hear back from somebody on what's going on. The environment was so dry, uncomfortable, and the ER room my mother was assigned to was not only small and confining, but it had some of the worst chairs I've ever had to sit in. Not optimal conditions for those suffering with chronic back/hip pain. The IVs my mother was hooked up to were depleted and alarms were going off left and right, but nobody was responding to them at all. Do better, Heywood Hospital. read more

I will start with my stop at the ER which is always invasive. It used to be a much more caring atmosphere until COVID hit. Now it's like a camp for prisoners. The staff for the most part is friendly with the exception of this one 50 ish short haired resting bitch face blonde doctor who has a nasty bedside manner. If you are there for mental health, buckle up buttercup you are in for a nasty ride. They have a contract with a certain community health center which shall remain nameless because I don't want to be sued but they will try to send you anywhere else they can. I don't know why. The MHU at Heywood Hospital is amazing. The staff is caring, professional, kind, friendly, helpful, and want to help you get back on track. Not to mention the aftercare partial program they offer which you can either zoom unless you have Medicare then you must go in person l, but I will say I enjoyed the in person experience far more than being seen on a screen which felt a bit impersonal. The staff is amazing, the groups are helpful, the tools they offer for self help are endless, and the staff Psychiatrist isn't interested in shoving pills down your throat to cover the problem but in working with you to figure out what really works for you. It is a personalized experience that helped me tremendously. I have been hospitalized many times since I was 23 and I have never experienced the level of compassion and care that I did with this small unit. Also you are allowed your cell phone which all other units I have ever been on in every other state including this one do NOT allow. There are rules but it's concerning pics and vids and using it in groups. The food is pretty good too! My MRI there today was perfect. Glad I ignored the bad reviews on here which made me anxious last night. Everything was good from start to finish. Reception was friendly. MRI tech Amy was awesome. Took me right away, were very friendly and patient and explained everything they'd be doing. I had contrast requiring an injection and this too was done well. I took my wife to Heywood Hospital Emergency Room as she was experiencing extreme shortness of breath. It was an after hours visit. As she was being treated and evaluated, I found myself starting to experience symptoms of dehydration, i.e. extreme thirst and slightly dizzy and requested a glass of water. No staff was willing to accomodate my request. After a while, I started feeling weakness and faint. Still no willingness to provide water. I reached a point where I started to stumble, that's when I had to have my daughter drive me home (a half hour drive) so I could get water. After arriving home, I downed a bottle and a half of Poland Springs and started feeling better. If you read Heywood Hospital self-promotion, they like to say, "putting patient care first". If you check out Leapfrog ratings, a banner pops up which says, "Heywood Hospital has declined to repond - ask them why not." Yelp rates them at 2 stars based on 36 reviews, which I feel is very generous. I rate them at one star and suggest seeking an alternate hospital if possible. read more

I had a nightmare experience at Heywood Hospital ER. I firse went to the Urgent Care wanting to see a doctor as I was feeling depressed and troyble sleeping. Well, they listened and then all of a sudden a police man came and they forced me to go into an ambulance and not to worry ,He is not taking you to the ER as I had another horrid experience there before. Well, sure enough , they took me to HEYWOOD HELL hospital and for some reason they put me in a room and strapped me in so tight they left marks on my arms and legs and just left me for hours and I never saw a doctor . After several hours they said, OH, you can go now. I said my car was at Urgent Care and they said they cant help with that! I was treated like a prisoner and did not get and help only bruises.. Literally the worst hospital I've ever been to. Crawled on the waiting room floor in excruciating pain while my wife was yelling for help, and instead the nurse and security guard asked us to quiet down. We were the only two people in the ER. Pain was so intense from a large kidney stone ripping through my ureter that my eyes went completely red from burst blood vessels. Heywood ER wouldn't help with meds, insinuating that I'm a junkie looking for a fix. Never did illegal drugs in my life. I laid half-naked with my head inside a used biohazard barrel moaning and vomiting for 3+ hours until the ambulance arrived to transport me to another hospital. The nurses kept closing the ER room door aggressively so they didn't have to listen to me writhe in pain. The Paramedic had to argue with the nurses to get them to provide me with medicine to comfort me enough to consent, say my own name and other info before the ride to Boston.. the lead Paramedic had to raise his voice to get the meds, as the nurses argued with him about supplies. Sent to Boston hospital for surgery to remove the stone and repair my ruptured ureter. They said the pain from this is typically worse than child birth, and that I was at risk of going into cardiac arrest due to the high blood pressure. Was admitted for 4 days. Also.. just last week my friend was sent there for what was thought to be a bacterial infection. She was held for 3 days, just to be sent home... instead she went to Fitchburg UMass to be re-evaluated, then was flown by helicopter to Boston. Both of her kidneys failed, and she needed a full blood transfusion. On arrival she was told she had less than 24 hours to live unless she had emergency surgery.. good thing she came in as soon as she did. She told me the story as she sobbed along with her kids... that's what spurred my review today. Stay away at all costs. Wrote a letter to management, filled out survey questionnaire's, but no call back or apology whatsoever. This place is far below 1 star,.. it's deadly! read more

Prior to this free physical according to all I filled out the survey in their online portal and did everything but pay cuz the screen said I could prepay but I decided to wait & I was glad I did cuz all said it was no charge! - but they wanted me to come back for a blood draw so I could fast and prescribe something for a rash but I hate going to any hospital so I never go back- any way the next day I got a bill! Because I have a rash that they've not done anything for-not even a prescription but now they say treatment of a rash-which they have not treated- is out side of a physical and now worthy of a $20 copay. I had a appt. today for a CT, I am handicap, I arrived at the front door hoping someone would come out and help me. I had to walk from the parking lot and almost fell. When I arrived where the W/C are I could not open the chair a stranger offered to help me when I was settled in the chair I proceeded towards CT when a bunch of people started yelling at me well they did not notice before when I needed help but now they were aware they pushed my W/C up to the desk asked me the covid questions and then slapped a sticker on me and push me into the CT. Prior to this when they had the tent outside and no valet I would ask them to bring a W/C down to handicap parking and would bring me into the building. But now their is no help well when my MD tries to send me to the hospital for care I will refuse because I can not walk that far and refuse to go to the medical building. Gail Lyons read more

I recently had to be seen in the Emergency Department for severe abdominal pain. The receptionist was kind and professional and I was seen immediately in triage then brought right to a room where I was again attended to right away. Everyone I saw (nurses, doctor, techs) was very professional, polite and compassionate and did their jobs flawlessly from drawing blood, inserting an IV, x-rays and CT scans. As soon as the nurse left the room, the doctor came right in. As soon as the tests were ordered, I was taken for them. The only wait was for blood work, but that, as well, was surprisingly quick. The necessary medications were called into my pharmacy and were waiting when I went there on my way home. I have never been there as an in-patient, but I would highly recommend the emergency department. Very often these small community hospitals cannot treat more complicated conditions but can certainly treat and/or transfer. I would go back without a second thought if I ever have another medical emergency. read more

I have an infection, and cannot afford urgent care. She offered no sympathy and remained firm that there was no other option for me besides to come in. I WOULDN'T GO EVER AGAIN EVEN IF I WAS DYING I WROTE THIS TO THE CEO I will have you know I am calling the board of health, I was absolutely treated horribly at the athol hospital in April 16th with chest pain and a possible uti --- said nurse on my case told me that the plan for me was to give me medicine and "kick me to the curb" after I had gone to the bathroom I need to be hooked up to the monitor again but she stated that "I was not dying today and it was less wires anyway!" Then a different nurse came in and told me I had to be hooked up! So she did it, I was in severe pain and through the portal I read my ECG report that reported a possible atrial enlargement ! Which was absolutely never mentioned to me. I was told that I had a uti and to go home on antibiotics, when I read the report on my PORTAL of my ECG results I contacted my pcp and they said that my ECG finding definitely needed to be further investigated! The provider that took on my case asked me if I was just " HYPERVENTILATING" and that MUST be the cause of my chest pain AS HE COULD CLEARLY SEE ON MY MONITOR I was in no way hyperventilating! I WILL BE MAKING SURE THIS GOES ON ALL PLATFORMS and I HOPE THERE IS NOTHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH MY HEART because I will certainly seek out other legal matters!!! And I know you probably DON'TCARE BECAUSE YOU SIT ON MORE THAN A MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR! read more

Went there by ambulance because my walker fell over two days in a row the nurses are rude they said they were going to x-ray my wrist because it was three times the size of my other wrist but instead they called an ambulance to take me home while I was talking to the doctor some big fat hairy nurse came up and said you don't talk to my staff like that and the only other nurse I talk to asked me what my weight was and I was trying to explain to her that I have a severe heart condition so they took me off of both of my Lasix and potassium and she goes I didn't ask you that question I asked you what your weight was so I asked her to leave the room then they accused me of being rude to the staff so when the doctor came in I tried to explain to him what happened and I didn't want to see those nurses again next thing I know I'm not getting a wrist x-ray and an ambulance is coming to pick me up and bring me back home so on my way out I told them I was going to another hospital to get an x-ray on my wrist and if it was broken I was going to sue them and they gave them all the finger I highly recommend you never go to that hospital and previously I went there for a second opinion on my heart and the cardiologist told me you are capable of doing anything you want I collapsed for three days on the floor unconscious my son climb through the window they transferred me to Wister hospital where they found that I had a genetic hereditary heart condition in a left bundle branch blockage and now I have congestive heart failure that hospital is worse than Leominster hospital and I didn't think anybody could be worse than Leominster hospital read more

1/27/2020 I just received a bill for $335.00 from the Hospital for 3 procedures I never had done. On 10/22/1919 I had a routine office visit, nothing special just a talk with my specialist. I called the Doctors office and they said the only thing I should pay for is the $45.00 co-pay. I then called the Hospital and they said the tests look like they were performed. I explained to them what happened and the person I talked to said she would send it up stairs to be looked at and they would call me back. No call back! I re-called the person said this could take weeks! It depends on were I am on the list. I asked how many complaints do you get? She didn't reply. I would have to wait! read more

I was admitted thru an emergency room with internal bleeding around 2PM Thursday with the expectation being that I would be evaluated by a GI and probably have a full diagnostic work up via endoscopy and colonoscopy that same afternoon. I had not been seen by Friday at 3PM. The floor physician made it clear that I would not have any procedure until at least Monday and that the GI might determine that I wasn't in serious enough condition to warrant an evaluation, I.e., I might spend another three nights in the hospital and discharged to pursue my options as an outpatient. This was pretty outrageous since the ER docs thought that I was in serious condition. I released myself against doctors advice and traveled to my home about 100 miles away where I'm hoping to get some treatment. The nursing staff at Heywood were very kind and the floor physicians I met seemed competent. read more

My mother went to Heywood Hospital on Monday to have her coumadin levels checked, as she does every week. Since the Covid-19 outbreak she has been staying home to avoid contracting and had called her Dr. regarding the upcoming test and how she should proceed with getting blood drawn and where would be best, because she has underlying health issues. She dis not hear back from her Dr. so she decided she would go and if the lab was to busy she would leave. The hospital had a tent in front of the main entrance and there were people basically guiding visitors to the right area with stickers with where that person was going. My mother said they were very kind and helpful. She got to the lab and there was one other person waiting, she got called and the two women drawing blood were going back and forth about the scheduling and the fact that she (my mother) and others shouldn't be in here. They should be doing this outside, complaining about the staffing. So let me say this, my 74 year old mothe did NOT WANT TO BE THERE, she did not want to risk her health being there! She didn't not need attitude from from angry phlebotomists , DO YOUR JOB! Don't like your job?? Quit! The last thing she needed during this was to be treated so badly by those who claim to be caring.... read more
