Emails, phone calls, etc. I asked for another deferment and they couldn't even work with me. They call you and say they notice you didn't make a payment and if you want to make it today. Umm sir, are there not any notes from the previous call? We've lost our jobs and they claim on their website they're working with customers affected by the pandemic...Yeah right. This company charges 20 dollars if your credit card declines. 20 dollars!! On a 75 dollar declined charge. It's daylight robbery. All they customer service says is 'well you signed the agreement'doesn't make it right. This has been the worse experience in my life!!! I was referred to this company to finance my eye surgery with Lasik. First I made a payment to lower my monthly payments, No, we can do that, this payment will be applied to the end of your bill, which is crazy and I never heard anything like that in my life, I didn't even have an option to request how I wanted it applied. Then they don't note it as of the date you made the payment. Then I ask for an itemized invoice to submit to my insurance company, they can't provide that to me, I need to go back to the place that did my surgery, but HFD is the one collecting my money. So now I'm in danger of my FHA benefits being suspended because they can't provide me with an itemized invoice. Horrible, I've been trying to get an itemized invoice for a year. this is crazy. If anyone every offer inhouse financing with them, DON'T DO IT!! A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. read more

This company is a scam and makes money off of "late fees" from payments made on your due date. Every month they charge me a late fee, even though, I pay my payment the day it's due. Every month they take $25 extra from me claiming my account is behind, even though I literally get paid the day my payment is due to go through. When you talk to them, they tell you there's nothing they can do. Worst company, avoid them at all costs. read more

They don't tell you that a transaction didnt go through until its already too late and until after they've already charged you a late fee. The late fee is 25% of the amount that I am supposed to pay for the month. I paid within a day and was still charged the late fee. I hate these people. read more

I've had multiple issues with them including double charges, charging bank accounts that I have requested to be removed from their saved information, and now they are doing absolutely nothing to assist with payment options during COVID-19 except to tell me that I have to get smile direct to cancel my account whatever that means. I have now received 2 emails and 1 text message that my account is delinquent, even after calling the yesterday and having them assure me that my account is up to date. This company has one job, to manage payment of this account, and they can't even keep their tracking systems straight. Service was also pretty bad, as their call center merely gave me the email of their support team rather than handle these problems directly. Avoid if possible. read more

Will not remove late fees even when the website will not let you change the payment method properly.

This company doesn't deserve a star. Their billing practices are terrible. If you provide the option to make a "one-time payment," you should not have the ability to make unauthorized payments or set up automatic payments without the account holders' permission. It should explicitly explain this on your website, despite what the contract says. That's just good business practices and it seems like you all want to trick people into making payments. I started my treatment in 2018 and during this time, when a lot of people have lost income, making unauthorized payments and constantly harassing people about a past balance is insensitive and bad business. I would have been more than happy to make payment arrangements WITH MY PERMISSION. I will never do business with a company that uses HFD as the financial service. read more

If you do Smile Club, find another way to pay. Before I even get my retainers, I get an email saying "Your account is past due." from some company I have never heard of. When I sent my order, I provided a credit card to bill for the down payment and future installments. This of course, immediately looks like a scam. I wrote them back and told them as much, and they suggested I call. Umm... see scam... About a week later I get my retainers and when I register them, I see that I have an account number with this company. So I proceed to the linked website and try to set up an account - I have to go into chat because it can't even find my information with my "account number." The chat assistant was able to enter the info and I was able to set up an account - where I see my credit card number on file and set up to bill. WHAT? So I make the 6-day "past due" payment and contact customer service stating that I never received any bill, that I don't understand why they didn't bill the credit card they had on file to bill, and want to know if I have to go on the site to make a payment every month even though it looks set up to autopay. The response I get back: Your bill is due regardless of your treatment plan. What? I'm dealing with a product I haven't received and no possible way to know who I owe money to or even that I owe money for a product I don't have. I write back pointing out that they have answered none of my questions. They write back, "we do not send out bills." Okay... and apparently you do not have the basic ability to read and comprehend either. Having had enough, I just used Amex to pay them off... I can Plan It if I don't want to pony up at the end of the month and have Amex as my ally if these aligners turn out to be crap. I pay off what it shows as my principal balance. The minute my card goes through... it shows I owe 47 cents on principal. Really? was the ten seconds for authorization enough to eat up 47 cents worth of interest. Seriously... DO NOT choose the payment plan at Smile Direct if it's these clowns. Demand another billing company that has customer service. read more

Horrible company to work with! I have tried to make one time repayments that wouldn't process because of something on their end. I sent them an email asking them to fix it and they replied asking if it was the one time payment that was giving me issues. After that they took an AUTO payment from my account without notifying me beforehand or even sending me a receipt afterwards! I would never recommend working with them. They cannot be trusted! If you absolutely MUST work with them, do NOT let them take auto payments from you. read more

If I could give HFD negative stars, I would! I signed up for Smile Direct Club (SDC) in June, which was financed through HFD. SDC sent my aligners ONLY for my top teeth stating that they were unable to make aligners for my bottom teeth. If they told me that, I would have simply cancelled then and there. But I was under the impression that I would get a FULL smile makeover because after all, my 3D photo images showed me the before and after of BOTH. NOT JUST THE TOP. Oh any by the way, I was gonna pay the same as someone else who got a top and bottom. I cancelled the account, sent back the aligners and received a refund of $250 from SDC. They said that they would cancel my account with HFD. I sent emails to HFD with attachments of my correspondence with SDC asking them to ensure my account with them was cancelled too. They emailed me back saying that my "account would be placed on hold until they could confirm my cancellation within a couple of weeks". Needlesstosay that HFD drafted my account and I had to file a dispute with my bank. Now more than a month after my cancellation, I got a NOTICE OF PAYMENT DUE in the mail! Is this a joke?!? I have all the correspondence and evidence I need if HFD wants to take a legal route. I've never had such poor customer service in my life! I will never do business with HFD. This is the most unprofessional, inefficient company I've ever had to deal with! EVER! I do not recommend doing business with either company. read more

I got Smile Direct Club aligners. I had the account set up, and everything was fine... until the second payment was due. They tried to tell me I hadn't paid my payment yet. However, my account was set up on automatic payments. I fought with them through email. Then, most recently in December 2018, they did not process my payment on the due date, and stated that it was a payment process failure. They added a $25 fee to my account for a failed payment. So I called to get it removed, and they demanded bank statements as proof that I had money in my account on the day the payment was due to be processed. The rep (Gloria Valladolid) accused me of not having enough funds in my bank account on the day the payment was due, and said it must have been declined for insufficient funds. So I scrolled back through my bank account, and took screen shots to prove that there was money in my account on the payment date. On the date that the payment was supposed to be withdrawn, I had $1,013.40 in my account, for a payment that was only $79.88. How could it have possibly been declined for insufficient funds? I have yet to hear back from this rep, but I will be looking into filing a conplaint with the BBB if the $25 fee is not removed from my account. I will never do business with this company again, and I'd give them 0 stars if I could. read more
