I've come here twice now, and both times have always been consistent. If you don't know what mongolian barbecue is, it's when you get a bowl and put whatever you want in it (noodles, meat, veggies, sauces) and they grill it on a large surface. In a way, it's kind of like hibachi, but not really. There is also an option for an AYCE, but also just a single bowl too. A small one costs around $10.50 and the larger one costs around $11ish (might be wrong). You can also order a side of rice and/or soup which is now extra. In all honesty, I think the bowl itself is enough, but the rice and also help lessen the saltiness. The reason I gave this place a 4 star is because the ingredient bar could be more stocked up. There wasn't a lot of beef, and I was stuck with crumbs, and even though I could've waited I had come with 10 other people and didn't want to hold up the line. Other than that, it's an amazing experience and a nice meal especially for the cold. read more

Watch out or they will overcharge you, first off they tried charging my child for an adult price. She said she fixed it so ran my credit card but then she undercharged me so I ran my credit card again. I tried talking to her asking if both charges were correct and she told me yes 2 adults and one child. After leaving and adding up both tickets she overcharged me 8 dollars. Beware they don't speak much English so I guess they play dumb. Will be reporting to my credit card company. read more

So I've been going to this restaurant for a while now and it's been getting worse with this girl she's a cook and I just got her name last week. Her name is Meta she will not stop cussing in front of customers like that's a normal thing to do, but I let them know, but I don't think it's gained the ears of the big bosses. My son went to the bathroom and right next to it, is where they get the drinks from the pop machine and she was shaking her butt, and this black gentleman was smacking it. That is so inappropriate doing work hours. I now know his name is David. This was a unique experience. The first time I had tried Mongolian cuisine was here. For those of you who do not know, Mongolian cuisine operates in its own unique way. You select all the ingredients that you want in your food in their raw form, and they'll cook it for you on an absolutely huge 6 foot-diameter hot plate while you wait! I went here about five times while I lived in the Quad Cities, and once took my lovely girlfriend on a date there. Hi Ho Mongolian Grill is the neighborhood hotspot for reasonably priced, unique stir fry, in a comfortable casual setting. My recommendation is to always get the "barbarian" sized bowl, its more than enough for that sitting, and you'll find that the leftovers you acquire are actually more delicious reheated the next day. Of the types of Mongolian places like this, I love it. It's one of my favorite places to go, and I've been coming here for almost 10 years. It's a buffet line where you choose your ingredients and then add your sauces, then they cook it down. I've been to create-your-own stir fry places and it's not the same. I am taking off one star because another reviewer commented about being overcharged for take out, because I think I've experienced the same (although... if I get the Barbarian, and it fits into one container, then that's a problem, because it's twice as the small bowl). Also, I think my upcharge was like $1. But still, principle. Here's what I do for the sauces, just as a fwiw - I start with their "recommendation" for the size I'm using, and then add to it. Depending on what I add to it, affects how it tastes, and I've never been unhappy with how my food has come out. Also, an important consideration for me is food that still tastes good reheated - in some cases I think Mongolian Grill tastes better reheated! Because of the nature of the restaurant, it cross-contamination would be a problem due to allergies, or dietary restrictions, then you'd probably want to avoid places like this in general (in my opinion). read more

We used to love this place. We tried to go last night, on a Saturday night, early at 5:15 pm. There were 3 tables sat. We walked in, the server was checking someone out at the register. She saw us, told us she'd be with us in a minute and went to go clear a table. Then went and refilled drinks for another table. My husband and I discussed just leaving, but I really wanted the food. After standing for about 5 minutes, she finally came back over and with a very rude tone in her voice said "we're only doing take out orders for the next half hour". Like I said, only 3 tables were sat in the entire restaurant, and if that was too much for her to handle, why couldn't she have told us that right when we walked in rather than making us stand there for 5 minutes? We love the food here. To us it's tastier than its counterparts in the area. The only issue is they have carpet in the restaurant and it's GROSS! It needs to be removed and tile or laminate installed for ease of cleaning. So, great food, but they need to clean more. read more

My family has complicated food allergies that make eating out near impossible. We stopped in and asked a couple of questions of the owner and he was amazing! Cleaned grill off and only allowed our food to be cooked. He had everyone else wait so we would not have cross contamination. This place has severely gone down hill since it opened. The prices have nearly doubled, and the food has gotten worse. On top of that they will up charge you 100% of the time if you get food to go. They claim that you "overstuff" your bowl if it doesn't fit in one to-go container. It has happened to me the last 5 times I've been there even though I make sure to only get the amount designated for the bowl size I'm choosing. The food itself it's not terrible... But the sauces constantly get cross-contaminated and so does the food. This is especially unfortunate when I get home and have food too spicy for me to eat and I put no spicy sauce on mine. Overall, if you haven't eaten here.....I would pass. There is a much better Mongolian Wok style restaurant in Davenport now that I would rate as 5-stars. read more

You get in line, choose your bowl size, and begin crafting yourself a meal that will be freshly cooked right in front of you. What can go wrong? Well, lots of things... It doesn't really compare to other "Mongolian" -type restaurants I've been to. The meat cuts seem really low quality, I mean the beef, chicken, and pork looked exactly the same; they were flat slices, basically shaped and textured like large, frozen, potato chips. The (imitation) crab meat tasted nothing like crab meat and I ended up picking all of it out of my meal since I could feel it making me sick after just a few bites. The vegetable selection was lacking, at best. Your choices came down to nothing more than green peppers, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, onions, and broccoli. There were a couple of other things, but I couldn't even tell what some of that stuff was. But the vegetables I did choose definitely tasted fresh. At the end of the line you must choose sauces to top your creation. Unfortunately your only choices are bland and description-less, you have no way of knowing what you're getting yourself into, unless you've been there before, since there is no way to try the sauces before adding them to your bowl. And that section of the line was just a complete mess, sauces where strewn about everywhere and I could clearly see people cross-contaminating everything in sight since they don't know how to use simple tools such as a ladle. Yeah, it's cool to watch your food being cooked right in front of you, but that novelty of that wears off quickly when you sit down and actually start eating the food. You taste the low-quality of the ingredients involved. The only redeeming qualities of this place were that you get to choose from a few different size bowls and the prices are very cheap for the amount of food you get. The largest size bowl is only like $10 and you'll have enough food to feed you for a few days. I wish my friends would've listened to me and we would've gone to Chuck E. I didn't like this place the first time I went there, but I decided to try it again. So far, I have been there twice and there's a nice selection of foods. You get a lot for the price and everything is delicious! One of the best deals is to get the Barbarian because it's an all you can eat! If you can only eat one, which is likely, then they charge you the same amount as a Mighty Khan, so you don't spend more money if you are hungry for two bowls! read more

This place is delicious, sooooo much better than the Hu-Hot place on 53rd. Little family owned restaurant. We went here when the whole shopping center was getting a face lift. The setting (inside) isn't superb but the seats are comfy and the food is fresh- minus the frozen meats which I think is pretty standard for this type of restaurant. Prices are good, lots of veggie options to choose from. Only thing is I wish the sauce they cooked your food on the grill in wasn't as sugary/ sweet. Next time I'll see if they can cook it without that... it was still really good though! The service was also excellent. Waitress was super nice and didn't bug us too much which is perfect. read more

If you've never tried Mongolian before, you should definitely try it out. Bring the kids - they'll have fun too! It's set up in a buffet style, only you pick up all the ingredients - meats, vegetables, and so on - and then give it to the cooks to prepare before your eyes. They throw your food on a large circular grill and then cook it for two to three minutes, which is all it takes to cook everything through. It's fun, it's delicious, AND it's good for you to boot! The decor leaves a little something to be desired, but there's nothing else like it in the Quad Cities. read more

Delicious food, nice staff, good prices. Eating in, you are seated at a table, asked for your drink order then immeadiately sent through the line to make your dish. While you are preparing your food, the waitstaff is quick to bring your drink, soup, and bowl of white rice to your table. The soup is eggdrop soup, I believe, but it's a little different than other eggdrop soups I've had, and I personally like it better than others I've tried. Eating in also allows you to go back up to the buffet for a few dessert choices such as pudding and usually some different dessert rolls or cakes. For take out, you just go straight to the line to begin preparing your bowl. When you give your bowl to the cook, be sure to tell them it is to go so they will put your food in a to go container and write you up a ticket to take to the cashier counter. Lunch prices are a little cheaper than dinner, but at dinner, there are several more choices for protein and a few more choices of vegetables in addition to the lunch selection. Lunch has chicken, beef, and pork, and I believe tofu; and dinner also offers shrimp, crab, and sausage. I have tried all the protein selections except the pork, beef, and tofu. I love all the choices I have tried except I was not thrilled with the crab (imitation, I believe) I felt the crab's taste overpowered the rest of the dish. I highly recommend puting egg into your dish. For the medium or large bowl, I use two eggs. You simply pick up the eggs from the buffet line and carry them seperate from your bowl, placing them on a towel provided on the counter at the grill. The cooks will add these to your dish during cooking. In addition to selecting your personal choices of vegetables, protiens, and noodles you also add your own mixture of sauces. They have a guide listed for a common mix of sauces, but you can add to that with other available sauces or completely create your own mix. When you create your bowl, usually you will fill the bowl level to the top with your vegetable and protien selections, and then pile on your noodles on top. Your bowl will likely be overflowing because this will all cook down. Be careful overflowing your bowl too high, however, because they may charge you for the next bowl size up. This has never happened to me though, and I usually have a very full bowl, but I have seen others who really seem to overdo it and I believe this rule applies to those people. On top of the noodles is where you pour on your mix of sauces. At this point, you give your bowl to the waiting cook and you stand there while they cook it in front of you. This usually takes just a couple minutes to complete your dish. It's fun to watch them cook your food and once in awhile the cooks get fancy in how they cook your food and put it all into your bowl. Even if they don't do any fancy tricks, it is still very impressive how they get all of your food off the grill and into your bowl without making a big mess. I often get the biggest bowl, which is a TON of food, eat just a little while at the restaurant (it's very filling), and then have a lot of leftovers to eat on a few times over the next couple of days. The only reason I didn't give all the stars in my rating is because they recently increased the price. The price was always very reasonable, and truthfully for the amount you get it probably still is, but it was a little disappointing to see the price increase (although understandable). read more

Buddy took me to dinner tonight for Mongolian. Been a while and they have updated and remodeled. It needed it big time. New chairs, booths, tables, carpet and paint. The ceiling tiles are painted brown now which is a good idea from all the smoke off the grill. And they have new hanging, interesting lights over the veggie buffet now. The selection of veggies, meats, noodles, etc. are the same. I see they brought back snow peas. YEAH! I usually get baby corn, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, green pepper, green onion, snow peas, shrimp and lots of noodles. They are what hold all the flavor from your sauces. I love to put curry sauce and garlic sauce over my noodles and a bit of Mongolian fire oil. The guys cooking are very good and I still watch in amazement how they scoop it off into a bowl in one fell swoop without making a mess. When we returned to our table, there were cups of very good and hot egg drop soup and bowls of white sticky rice. You need to toss and toss and stir up from the bottom to get your bowl of food to cool off so you can eat it. The top of the grill is 1200 degrees. So in the meantime I ate my soup and blew on my food. I enjoy how I can flavor my dinner how I want and experiment with flavors and ingredients. Only down side is, even though the furnishings are new and carpet is new, doesn't mean the place is really clean. There were straw wrappers, noodles, a carrot, and things on the carpet in our area. The buffet line had all kinds of food that had been dropped on the tile floor and I guess you just try to step around it as you fill your bowl. The grill area needs a cleaning party with everybody getting down on their hands and knees with some grease cutter, soap, scrub brushes and buckets of hot water. It is really nasty back there. There were veggies and noodles all over the buffet area that a man did finally come with a bowl and picked up the food. He was the only one I saw do anything about picking up the mess. Our waitress walked over the straw wrappers and noodles on the floor I bet 6 times and never bothered with picking it up. But the sauce area was really a mess with spilled, dribbled, sauces from people using ladles all over the counter. There was an old man sitting in the rear on the other side from us and just watched everything and stared. Maybe he is an owner. If so, he should get up off his butt and tend to his messy, dirty restaurant. I like the food here so much I just tend to try and ignore the mess.
