gave me one item to fix for saftey check, brought it back to have them list more items that they didnt list originally and that werent even on the check list the first time around or out kther two vehicles. They will fail you to get you to give them more money for random things and then fail you again. scam and abusing the system. we have 3 vehicles and will not be coming to this mechanic EVER again. read more

Called & got quote from Steve says booked til 9 days later. Trk is towed by Ohana Tow & accepted by Leilani 8 days early, next day. 7 days later Steve calls & says prove you're owner or not only not fix but hold hostage like police officer. Had to call police to call him to tell him he not police or allowed to rifle through console or glove compartments of personal vehicles! Truck belonged to my Dad who gifted me the 2005 Nissan for Xmas that yr. I buried both my folks in mainland in Nov. 2017. Came home Tue night truck is dead. Called & talked to Steve gave description of repairs and trk model. DMV papers in glove compartment. He knew trk was being towed. He said nothing of his INS rule of towed vehicles that you must prove you own old broken truck. Cannot unring a bell. But now police must escort me to pickup and tow my truck to another shop. Proof of previous repairs at Wayne's in Lihue, Safety check at Shell for 11 yrs under my name, and no he requests a death or birth certificate for my beloved Dad only. He is not INS or police. Can't call or perform customer service in any way. Beware. He goes through your personal items and compartments in your vehicle without your permission. Follow up: KPD had to go to his shop and tell him to release vehicle and no right to go through locked glove and console boxes w/o permission. And to question or police any documents relating to a vehicle for repair. Illegal. read more

Nothing but a great experience. Went in for tire repair with big nail sticking out . Saw they did safety checks so called and they set me up within 30 minutes for both. Met Steve the owner who performed my safety inspection and was done passed in no time. Tire repair was no cost as was not deep enough to leak. Wish I knew about this place when I moved here 3 years ago. Very knowledgeable owner and mechanics. Front desk also very nice and friendly. Did not think I could find a place like this on Kauai. Called to have brake work done on my 2002 Mini Cooper S. The person who answered, while very nice, said they don't accept brake jobs on Minis because they have a hard time getting parts. They said the previous Mini they worked in sat in their shop for 4 MONTHS because they couldn't get parts, so I would have to get my own parts for them to do the work, but there would be no warranty. He also said "Minis aren't meant for Hawaii," and they suggested to previous customer that they sell the car. I really don't understand this. FOLLOW-UP: I just called Mini of Hawaii on O'ahu, and they indicated there should be no problem getting brake parts for a Mini. The shop just calls them, and they send the parts by UPS. Perhaps it was a backorder situation in this previous case, but the HI-Tech person didn't say this...they just made it sound as if this is a general Mini problem. Also, the Mini of Hawaii guy said the comment about getting my own parts and the service not being under warranty was a new one to him. I would steer clear of this place. Car needed a new starter. Made an appointment, brought car in the morning with a new starter purchased at NAPA. Hi Tech would have charged me retail price plus 40% for warranty. Got car back that afternoon. Shop is clean and people are professional; mechanic did a very nice job. Labor cost was $307: 2.38 hours at $120/hour. On-line estimates I used for reference quoted one hour labor and most shops quote $90/hour. They do take credit cards but they charge an additional 4%. So I paid in cash. I'm happy with the repair but not with the price. read more
