Terrible service. The barber was extremely rude to me and my partner. Made many misogynistic comments and made us so comfortable that we left before the haircut. I think the conversation made it more than obvious that he holds very, very conservative views that include telling women "you will leave him once you find a man that will put you in your right place". I have never had such a terrible experience that it inspired me to leave a Yelp review but here it is, I am visiting Cupertino to see my gf and decided it was time for a haircut. She wanted me to try something new and wanted to tag along with me to see. We arrive at this barber shop that is in a tiny cubicle and the barber asked what I wanted. I had my gf show him the picture of the cut and he said alright. He then proceeds to make disrespectful comments such as " you need to grow a pair and make decisions for yourself", and "you are a beta"... not going to explicitly type out the sheer profanity he used to hunker down on his claims (but you get the idea). I'm not the type of person to sit there and be disrespected so I stood up and left. If you are deciding if you want to go here I would highly recommend going anywhere else for a $50 haircut. Rod's been doing my hair for at least a year now and I'm pleased with his work. Communication in setting up appointments and reliability are big for me and he's been good at both. My cut has evolved a little bit based on some feedback I've given and corresponding adjustments on his end; having input that is visible in the outcome is great. He does have some rules that I consider to be reasonable expectations and as long as you're respectful of those he's easy going. Absolutely would recommend him to a friend. read more

I'd been to a few barbers, showed them pictures of a previous cut and described what I wanted (1.5 straight up with some changes), but Rod was the first to do it right. He's skilled and super easy to get along with-- we've talked the whole time, sat in comfortable silence, or just watched TV during cuts. And it's safe: he works in a one room setup with an air purifier. I often get cuts right before trips so it's great to not worry about getting sick at a haircut and spending days in bed while in a different country. Finding a consistently good barber is difficult, and Rod is the only one I'll go to in the Bay. As long as you're even mildly descriptive he'll nail it, and I bet he could help you find a new style too if you wanted. read more

I'm normally a pretty cheap guy (for better or worse), and for quite a few years, I was very content with taking a clipper to my head with a #1 guard and buzzing everything down. However, somewhere along the line I decided to get a proper haircut, and ended up making a few bad choices, due to said cheapness. Rod's HI-TECH Barber Shop is a little on the higher end of pricing, but is it worth it? Hell yeah. I've been going with him for the past year or so, and it is always a pleasure getting a cut from him. He's a straight-up guy, who definitely knows what he's doing. Professional and clean equipment and facility, with a great easygoing personality to match. Once my girlfriend (now wife) saw my first haircut from him, I knew my search for a good barber was over. Numerous compliments from friends and coworkers sealed the deal. He cut my hair for my wedding, and I just got a cut from him to present a proper look to my unborn son, who is due within a few weeks. I'm not the kind of guy that pays a lot of attention to my hair. When it starts to annoy me, I get it chopped. Thus, I haven't put a lot of effort into finding someone *good* at cutting hair, and I just go wherever's cheap and close and open. That all changed when I went here. Rod is an amazing barber and a heck of a nice guy. He's careful, detail-oriented, and consistent. Rod is a great Barber. He is very meticulous the way he shapes your hair and beard. He has a tv in his shop and will always have some sort of sports on. I think it's important to be an excellent conversationalist as a barber. Probably won't be returning here. Rod's haircut was very good; he takes his time and does really good work. A 5-star haircut with 2-star service. We had bought a groupon that he wouldn't honor. He didn't really offer an explanation, just said he "wasn't doing those," whatever that means. He told us after the haircut had been completed, so we didn't really have a choice but to pay out of pocket. (He said he only accepts cash but didn't have that listed anywhere and had no sign indicating this.) So not only did we pay for a groupon but we had to pay out of pocket additionally. I actually thought he was joking when he said he wouldn't accept the groupon because it didn't expire for another 5 months. I thought that was totally unprofessional. Also, a previous customer came in just as he was finishing up the haircut and he told him, "I charge double for walk-ins," despite the fact that this guy was a loyal customer AND he didn't have any other customers waiting. I don't know if he was joking about it either. It just seemed really shady to me, like he was trying to take advantage of his customers. I have never had an experience like this in my life, and I'm astonished by his behavior. I can't believe this is how he treats his customers, new and old. It makes me sad because his haircut was so good! :-( read more

TL;DR - Rod is an excellent barber and always puts his customers first. A real pleasure to have my hair cut by this guy who has earned his customers' loyalty Price - decent for the area, not over priced Cut - always gets it right, no matter how picky I am. Girlfriend always loves how he cleans up the sides and back, and the top is always nicely layered. For my weird head shape and hair growth, he's the best. I can't imagine going to another barber unless Rod closes up shop or moves Atmosphere - one on one. One man shop, I'm not sure if this was emphasized by other reviews but you will get Rod and only Rod. You might pay a premium with scheduling issues or price, but the consistency is bar none. This dude knows when I'm in the mood to chat and when I'm not. Im a moody person that sometimes welcomes conversation, other times not. So this is really appreciated, obviously. Rod is the man. This little (hidden) barbershop is awesome, no fuss, no frills, nothing you don't need that jacks the price up. What you get when you come here is a guy who knows what he is doing and has been doing that for a long time. Rod's a genuinely chill dude who cuts great hair and will take the time to personally listen to what you want and work his best to provide it. It is a bit expensive for each cut ($25ish) so I had to stop coming but if I could afford it I'd come here every time. The location's also a bit weird, it's in this building with ~10 other salons/barber shops/massage parlors, and the room you go in is small and just you and Rod. Called him up to see if he was free and even though he was done for the day, he dropped what he was doing and opened up his shop to cut my hair. Rod's cuts are always good, always clean. Guy's got real talent, knows what looks good. I usually come in with a different idea every time - "I want something short all over for summer", "give me the longest combover possible", "1 on the sides, don't touch the top".
