Day One Barbershop

Top notch barbershop in San Jose. They're really tapped into SJ culture, with modern artwork on the walls and skilled barbers who understand today's styles and cuts. The music is bumpin', the vibes are right, and everyone is friendly. Overall legit barbershop with solid prices, you won't be disappointed.

Low fade, beard work, line up, short on the sides, and fringe on the top.

Updated Review for Norm @ Day One Barber: Had to come back and bless the page with an updated review -- because some things don't change, and Norm is still that guy! If you're searching for your main go-to barber, look no further. Norm's the type of artist who'll carve such a crisp C-curve into your lineup that it might as well be his signature -- a real Norman Rockwell moment, but instead of paint and canvas, it's clippers and pure finesse. A masterpiece in motion. If you're new to Norm's chair, don't worry -- he's got you. He'll take one look at your head shape, natural hairline, and recommend what actually works for you. I usually go for a low taper when I'm aiming for that classic, polished look without having to do too much upkeep. But on the days when I'm feeling a little more reckless and need that edge? I'll opt for the low fade -- Norm never steers me wrong. His suggestions always hit because he actually listens and takes the time to manage your expectations before a single clipper even touches your head. We've all been there: you walk into a random barbershop, explain your usual cut, then there's some weird miscommunication. Next thing you know, you're awkwardly locked in eye contact post-cut, pretending it's fine when it's definitely not fine. Norm? Nah. He's different. He checks in, clarifies, and makes sure you and him are locked in before he starts. No guesswork, no regret, no "how bad is it really?" bathroom mirror moments later. Norm truly goes out of his way to deliver. Loyalty and community are the cornerstones of his business -- and it's a major reason why Day One has taken off over these last couple of years. It's not just a barbershop; it's a strength-based space where men can show up, chop it up, and just be themselves. Your real-life barbershop experience -- without all the dramatics from Ice Cube's "Barbershop" movie. (Although you'll still catch some hilarious conversations, just minus the chaos.) If you want artistry, consistency, and an environment where you don't have to over-explain yourself -- Norm is your guy. Trust me, your hairline will thank you

Louie never fails. My son has a cowlick in the back of his head, but he knows how to hook him up and line him up real nice. I've gone to so many barbers and I finally found someone that knows and pays attention to detail to how the customer is looking for a certain look and delivers with it. And as for me, Louie always hooks up my beard, super clean and sharp. The price is right too. You won't be disappointed. (My son is a minor so I had to block his face out.)

Gio does an excellent job with beards. It is difficult to find a place that does good beard trims but I trust going here.

Came in with some inspo pics (Hudson Williams, 90s Keanu, Jackie Chan shag vibes). Rich was very patient and knowledgeable, he indulged my questions about everything. We made a game plan on how to trim and layer my hair and what I was going for. I LOVE THE RESULTS. It's literally the kind of style I want to effortlessly have but can rarely achieve bc mi hair soy super Asian (kapow!). I'm so glad I did it (finally) and looking forward to enjoying it. Highly recommend!

This review is long overdue. Almost 8 years in fact. JJ has been taking care of me for as long as I…read morecan remember. It all started with a cold call to the shop / getting an appointment with JJ back in 2018, in which turned into entrusting him with cutting my hair since. This is THE guy, let me tell you. JJ is the most laid-back, coolest, most sincere barber I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I truly look forward to every appointment I have to get freshened up / vent / chat with him. My dude has been with me through thick and thin, life and hair literally. From weekly buzz-cuts to now bi-weekly scissor-cuts, he has always gone above and beyond to make my experience the best it can be. If you are looking for a barber in San Jose, please, look no further and book an appointment with JJ ASAP! You will not be disappointed with the exceptional service you receive. Thank you for everything brother!!!

Raygo Blendz is amazing. I came in for my first haircut in 4+ months (growing it long from a short…read morefade). It was my first haircut at Paradox and it won't be my last. Even better, he is patient and takes the time to explain different methods and all of the fun insights behind different hair looks you can achieve. Also he makes recommendations to point you in the right direction, including other stylists at the salon that specialize in certain things. Highly recommend!

I had an appointment here the other day for a perm with one of barbers (Kevin/K-Luk) here who had a…read morerespectful portfolio on his social media. I showed him my reference pictures (loose flowy perm for middle part) and style (wolfcut) that I was hoping to achieve. He said we could achieve something similar to the pictures that I showed. I mentioned that I had processed hair on the back of my head and questioned how to proceed from that. He told me initially the perm wouldn't look right if he didn't my entire head so I agreed to proceed given the possibility that the perm may fry the back of my head. He also mentioned to me that I needed a haircut to which I asked him if I could add it on as I assumed I would be able like most of the other salons/barbers that I have been to before. He told me he couldn't as he was booked. He begins to perm my hair and talks to another colleague and mentions he going to avoid my processed hair. We finish the perm and he washes the solution out of my hair and shows me my hair. It's significantly curlier and different than what I expected. But didn't look too bad because it was still wet. I didn't want to say anything because I hoped once my hair dried, the perm would look less curly as it has in the past and I didn't want to say anything since I waited over a month to book this appointment. I had paid previously and tipped 20% during the booking of it. As I drive home, I noticed my hair looking more and more poofy on the sides--almost like those kids who grow out their hair/surfer hair. Once I get home, my hair is a lot more dry now and I noticed that the sides were all sticking out horizontally like a fish hook. I showed my girlfriend who told me that this was the worst thing she's ever seen. The sides were totally messed up and the back looked horrible. I ended up going to another salon that evening because I was in shock of how bad the perm turned out. I asked the stylist there if there was any way to layer and fix it, to which they informed they couldn't as the perm rods were not placed appropriately for a middle part and said the only way to fix it was it cut off. Given how bad the perm turned out, I opted to cut it off. I mentioned all of this to my barber the next day on his social and he didn't even seem to care. He told me I should've had my hair layered before the perm and that my hair looked weird because he didn't perm the processed hair. As a customer who showed him the reference picture, if he didn't believe he could achieve the results without layering my hair/didn't believe he could achieve it then why go through with at all. I would've skipped the perm or only done a haircut if that's what he believed was achievable from the reference picture. Even from the picture of the back I sent him, he could tell that the perm looked bad but let me walk out of the shop without even trying to fix it. I already paid/tipped beforehand so there's no incentive to fix a bad service because you're just an invoice at this point. The customer service at this places isn't good. If you gave someone a really bad perm/service and don't care about your mistake or don't care to offer ways to assist your client, it just shows you that you're just a dollar sign to them.
