Unreliable scheduling system and barbers. Unskilled barbers. My first experience here and won't be coming back. Made an appointment for Harold to come in after work. I get a text shortly asking to come in on a different day or even earlier. I explained i had work which is why i took the last appointment. We compromised on a day earlier, same last block. I get a call the afternoon of my appointment. Harold explains he had to leave for the day and passed me off to a different barber. I was hesitant but i gave it a chance. Came in 10 minutes earlier. Was helped right away by the secondary barber. Showed him multiple pictures of my usual haircut. It's very simple, fade on the side and trim on top, even out the front. I felt like he didn't really look or ask for clarification. Instead he template matched me to cuts he probably regularly does. Guys who get haircuts regularly know when it feels wrong. And I could tell he went too high on the sides just by feeling. And when i saw it in the mirror my heart sank. Just ruined my head in 10 minutes. I could tell he wasn't comfortable with scissors. He actually lost grip on his shaver and knicked me on the neck with it. I do not recommend this place. And I get a haircut literally every single week where I'm from and they lost a potential regular. I don't think I'll come back here after going thru the stress of working with Harold trying to reschedule around HIM with my own personal schedule already. Very unprofessional. On top of that, you pre pay and get charged BEFORE coming in and as I was about to leave the guy who did my haircut asked me to pay AGAIN. So now I got double charged in the meantime while I wait for them to refund my original booking. These guys need to get it together and make the customer experience and journey have less friction and back and forth. Very disappointed. Don't book with Harold he likes to leave early. Adrian tried his best, but he's got a lot of work to do. 8/19: Edit cuz the owner or barber wants to back track. But Harold cornered me the afternoon of my appointment while I was at work to tell me he would be leaving at 3 that day and said he was gonna leave me to another barber. So NO NORMAN, he did not specify that I would get passed off up until a few hours before my rescheduled appointment and at that point I had enough of this back and forth and was trying to trust in the staff to take care of me but I did not get a skilled enough barber to do a simple mid high fade. read more

I've been to so many barbers in my life. Started off with $7 haircuts back in HS, did that for years, then made some more money and jumped up to $20 haircuts and saw the difference from a $7 fade and a $20 fade. But then i tried other $20-$30 cuts with different shops and each fade was different. Some were good at cutting the top, some were good with the fade, some were patient, some rush me out the door, some knew how to line me up, some good ones had 1-2 hour waits, some good ones were appointment only but not on the days when I really wanted a cut. Some places the vibe great, some had the old school barbershop feel, some places felt like a nail salon with chatter in my ear. I've gotten a $75 cut and that was no better than some of my lower cut costs. The price point for a good fade I've seen so far is $30-$60 (with tip). I've probably been to 30 barbershops. I called in for a haircut and got booked with Adrian, I tell him I want a mid taper and a little bit of a trim. Nothing crazy. This dude says "so you want an 'Edgar'?" I told him no cause what the hell is that. Then he proceeds to give me the most lousy and f****d up hair cut ever. Nothing was blended correctly, my hairline was crooked af looking like a mountain range. Felt like this dude chopped my hair with his eyes closed. This review is for my barber Louis C. When I first came into Day One, I was new into the area and the shop was recommended to me by a co-worker. I found Louis while booking online and I am sooooo lucky I did. Walking into the shop for the first time, I immediately felt at home. It was a mix of barber trade culture, tattoo culture (the owner Orly is a famous local tattooer), and clean/ professional. Louis was basically my ambassador to the shop though, and he represented very well. He was super attentive when I told him a general idea what I wanted ( a comb-over that I can also slick back, medium/high fade to compliment my hairline, a hard part, and a little something extra to give a cool asymmetrical look). I like to sit back & give a lot of creative control to the tradesman after that, and DAYUM am I glad I did with Louis. He basically helped me design what I feel is "my look" now. Going back to him, he always asks before trying something new and will always seek to clarify with me in what I want. I like to spread good vibes, so for me I really click with Louis conversationally as well because we go deep on all kinds of things while he's working. He makes cutting look easy the way he can just flow in convo! But if you're not into that and just like to sit quiet, he'll totally make you feel comfortable with that too.
