As someone who frequented Oasakas, Yamazato and Oishii hibachi restaurants in Lynchburg it's always nice to know I can stop here and get my fix! I absolutely love buffets, especially if they are Asian buffets because they are the best! I was staying nearby at an Airbnb and this buffet was walking distance of me so I went. You have your standard noodle and rice choices but they also have a variety of other things. A lot of chicken choices and some seafood (but not a much). I came during the lunch hour. Stopped in at 11:30, nice and quiet. Food was really great. Server was very nice, polite and attentive. Plenty to choose from and there was a gal replacing empty serving dishes constantly. My friend tried the grill but by then it was 12:30 and it took longer because the lunch crowd had started coming in so there was a line. 15 minutes earlier would have been faster. She said it was worth the wait and they prepared her food the way she likes it. By 12:30 it was starting to get really busy, and more noisy. There was almost a full house. I've been here several times. The food is ok for a Chinese buffet. I checked the website before going for the price and it said $12.99 for Sunday. I should have called to double check but didn't. It was $14.99 per person. We paid the $14.99 but I mentioned to them that they need to update it on the website because it was more than we were planning on spending and the guy got very defensive and argumentative. I was simply trying to bring it to their attention as I understand that inflation has caused everything to go up. I just wish they had been more upfront with their pricing. Also, the waitress stood at the table and waited and demanded a tip. We were planning on leaving a cash tip but she wouldn't leave. My family and I are fans of buffets so if you don't like buffets in general, this is probably not a place you'd like. But if you're into variety and reasonable pricing (comes down to about $10/person and there's a discount for UVa students and those older than 65), you'll enjoy this place. There's your standard selection of Chinese food - some dishes more authentic than others, like Szechuan-style string beans, steamed flounder, alongside more American-style dishes like General Tsao's chicken and hot and sour soup. There's also a nice selection of sushi and a small Hibachi-like grill where you pick your own raw ingredients and they stir fry them for you. There's a chocolate fondue fountain, which sounds from other reviewers like it might have been from the previous restaurant, but it adds a nice touch, and a small selection of desserts and sliced fruits. There was a somewhat strange shortage of soup bowls at one point. There were no bowls near the soup so when I asked one of the employees, he said they were all being washed. I thought that was a little strange but they got the bowls out shortly thereafter. The employees do a decent job wiping down the counters to pick up small spills so that the buffet areas are nice and clean. I'm generalizing a little bit but being Chinese-run and a buffet, don't expect a lot of customer service other than the waitresses picking up your plates when you're done polishing off your food. This isn't gourmet food per se, but it does have a generous selection and good value for about $10 per person. And if you're into buffets but don't like Chinese buffets in particular, Woodgrill Buffet is about one plaza away and also worth a try. read more

I went there yesterday with my boyfriend for a nice dinner. Our time there was anything but nice. To start off with the food tasted good, but the Mac N Cheese was cold. We were working on our 3rd plate that's when the waitress rudely came over and put our check book on the table opened it up and said to us "YOU PAY NOW YOU PAY NOW"! So, my boyfriend and I paid them 41 dollars because it was around 40 dollars, we weren't done paying yet because we were going to add in a tip for 6 dollars . Just as we were about to tip she came back counted the money and said "WHAT ONLY ONE DOLLAR TIP". We were not done tipping yet my boyfriend was about to reach into his wallet to find a five and that's when she came over and did that. She would not leave until we gave her more money. We were embarrassed and I am livid. I would not waste my time coming here ever again. The waiter tried to take my money as a tip after i gave her a $50 bill and she only gave me $5. She tried to keep the change for herself without my consent . The food was good but i recommend not to come to this place. If you decide to go please count your change. Oh my god, my favorite place in the world. That weird lighting that makes everyone look five times bigger. The general smell of cleaner mixed with frying oil mixed with tons and tons of people. The little koi pond in front. I would have my wedding reception here if everyone else didn't unanimously disagree. Okay look, the food is not amazing. It's a buffet. I'm a little scared of the raw salad bar and the deviled eggs and anything else that hasn't been fried a few times. But the hibachi grill is where it's at. I usually get two helpings of my special veggies+pineapple+egg+noodles mix and then three or four plates of fried rice and spring rolls. Hey, my doctor says I'm still growing at the ripe age of 22. The chocolate fountain's pretty sweet. I like to wave the marshmallow around, like it's doing the perfect swan dive into the fudge. Then I get looks from the dad next to me. And his toddler. Now listen, the next time you're here, I want you to look up for a second from stuffing your face senseless and look around. Take in the looks of pure ecstasy on the faces around you, the sounds of loud, really loud chewing, the waitresses' (they're all waitresses; I don't think I've seen a single waiter except for the guy at the front) gabbing. Our family came on a Friday night and I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the interior was and the many food options all for $12/adult. Hubby and I have eaten our way thru many buffets. We are trying to limit those visits for traveling. For $7.95 at lunch, this is a decent place to visit. We don't come for stellar service or decor. The booths/tables probably haven't been replaced in several years. It is sad that I know which booths are uncomfortable or broken. There are lots of nice choices on the salad bar. Each dressing is labeled so if you are paying attention, you won't confuse cocktail sauce for ketchup. There is a hot grill where you can select which items you want cooked. My "staples" for any buffet are: vegetable lo men, fried rice, green beans & egg drop soup. There are lots of veggie and meat choices. The fruit is hit or miss. I have had wonderful and "mushy" watermelon. The dessert bar is larger than it needs to be. You have choices of cake, pastries, ice cream and a chocolate fountain. Fruit and jello are also nice desserts. Avoid the pizza and mac & cheese. It tastes industrial & rushed. The employees are nice enough to take orders and remove plates. Today( July 20,2022) I went to hibachi grill around 1 today and after finishing eating, the lady came up to me with the check in a book and I went to take money out and paid and she left the book there and a few minutes later she came back and opened the book and told me "no tip?" "wheres the tip" and did the "give me money" hand signal and I thought that was incredibly rude knowing that I always leave a tip on the table when I am about to walk out of the door. I did appreciate that everything seemed fresh and hot even though it was Monday lunch (i.e. their least busy day).
