I was a new patient here in January. I got my teeth cleaned and felt very seen and heard. I had gotten my teeth whitened and a permanent brace out from the back of my teeth. They fitted me for a retainer. I had a great experience at the 4 appointments I've had with them. At my first, I made a six month teeth clean. About a month ago, my number had been changed and I had forgotten to call them and change it. When I arrived for my six month teeth cleaning, they told me I no longer had my appointment as they tried to get into contact with me several times. I told them I had changed my number and they basically said "you can wait to see if the person that had your appointment shows up." They had not contacted me via email. I had blocked out time at work for this and left VERY disappointed. I will not be returning. I work in healthcare and would never do that to one of our patients that don't confirm. It's a wild concept to me. I left livid. I had been excited about the teeth cleaning. Then they had the audacity to text me saying I missed or cancelled my appointment and I should reschedule. I went here once and then moved, since then i've continued to come here. I do live 2 hours away and make the drive. I had to reschedule my appointment yesterday from 2:00pm to 11:30am. I get here at 11:20 and am i told i was late and they cannot see me. The lady yesterday told me 11:30 not 11:00. What a waste of time, and gas. She didn't seem to be understanding at all. BEWARE!! I went in for a standard cleaning and was told they COULD NOT do a standard cleaning I would have to have a deep cleaning over 2000.00. That was a lie! Also I had paid out of pocket for a crown because they could not figure out how to process 2 insurance companies Cigna and Humana. By far the worst experience I have ever had. Had a consult in June and was told I was required to get a deep cleaning. I asked if I could opt for a regular cleaning as that is all I have needed in the past and was told no. I had been waiting for an appointment for several months after already being rescheduled once. I then made sure to ask if my insurance was verified and that it would be covered. I was told it was covered. I got the cleaning done the next day and paid over $200 and was told the rest was covered under insurance. A month later, I am told the procedure was NOT necessary and received a bill for over $600 as my insurance would not cover the unnecessary procedure. I requested for the dentist to appeal, which they stated they did by sending the same document as in the claim, and it was denied again (shocker). I then asked for the doctor to participate in a peer to peer review, as recommended by my insurance, so the doctor could explain why the procedure was necessary. I was told that due to "corporate policy" they would be unable to appeal again and it was up to me to argue with the insurance. After trying to handle this with my insurance for months, I get a letter in the mail that my bill was sent to collections by the dentist office. I called and spoke with the office manager, Chris, who continued to just argue with me about the insurance verification and the procedure being necessary but offered zero assistance or sense of understanding that I am now being required to pay over $800 out of pocket for a procedure my insurance is saying I never needed in the first place. I spoke with my insurance and they told me that the dentist never called to verify my coverage in the first place. They did have a record of the office calling for other patients, just not for me despite me asking directly before having the procedure done. I can not urge others enough to avoid this office like it's the plague. They require people to undergo procedures they don't need simply to make a profit. I wish I would have listened to the other reviews on this page prior to making an appointment. All they care about is money, they do not care about their patients and the effect their actions have. read more

The first time I scheduled an appointment, they called me and left a message saying it's canceled because of the dentist's schedule? Second time, they called 20 minutes before my appointment and canceled because they "didn't have my insurance information". I'd never been there before and expected to bring my card with me to the appointment. My card literally has this office printed on the front as my home dental provider. I tried speaking with the office manager to make a complaint because I had taken off of work and this was very disrespectful to my time. Very ignorant staff and not helpful. It's 2022! Okay first: people don't like the dentist. So duh they're giving low reviews. People also don't review an average/good teeth cleaning (which is what is usually happening at the dentist) Second: I was having horrible tooth pain, tried another dentist in Athens, told me everything was normal and prescribed me some meds. I was relieved after my visit last week that everyone I came in contact with at this dental office was kind and helpful. Luis was my dental hygienist and he was awesome! He explained everything he was doing and educated me on his findings! Tiaysia was his assistant and she was so kind from the minute she called me back until she walked me out. She also did a very good job on my X-rays! Kris was insanely helpful after my insurance made an error and she spent time getting it sorted out with them! I also enjoyed my interaction with Dr. Lee! Total scam!! Would be negative stars if I could. Went back to this place June 2020 because it is the only place around that my insurance covers. I left it 10 years ago because they were always trying to add stuff. Well they still do the same thing today! I have never had a cavity in my life(I'm 41), floss every night, and brush twice a day. I have been to numerous dentists in the decade since I left this place the first time and have NEVER been told anything is wrong. Today the same guy I saw 10 years ago sits down in front of me and tells me that I need to have deep pocket cleaning on all my quadrants and buy an antibiotic kit to take home with me and use. I told him that's why I stopped coming in the first place and could I just sign a waiver saying "I know I need this stuff" but I just wanna regular cleaning. He refused and I walked out. Will self pay from a dentist I trust, who I actually originally met at Hickory flat dental but he left to start his own practice because he said they were scamming everyone and he didn't believe in it! Oh and please don't bother replying to this HFD...because all you're gonna say is some BS about how you "can't find me in the system." Public service announcement. If you choose to go to hickory flat dentist beware! They tried to get me to cap a tooth, have a root canal and would not clean my teeth. They said I had gum disease and needed to have my gums pulled back and cleaned. I left so upset and wondering how this could happen in such a short period of time from my last cleaning. I went to one of my clients office and had him give me a second opinion. My gums are fine and Healthy, I have a cavity that isn't a root canal and my filling is not leaking and doesn't need to be capped. He cleaned my teeth. Removed plaque (which Dr. Lee told me my teeth were eroding in all actuality it was just plaque and is gone now) took another set of x-rays and sent me on my way! After speaking with others in our area and finding out they had the same experience. I wanted to pass the information on!!! PLEASE GET A SECOND OPINION!!! Don't listen to them!! read more

Dr. Soh is nice and Invisalign is the best. However, this practice is extremely disorganized and disrespectful of their patients' time. Their front staff doesn't communicate well, so the waiting room experience is confusing and favors the people they recognize. They overbook ortho patients, which adds to the problem. I really wish I'd gotten Invisalign somewhere else because I have to endure this awful practice for another year. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a total scam. My husband and 22 year old son went for a routine cleaning a year ago. We always stay on top of our cleanings every 6 months but recently moved and had to find a new dentist. I wish I would have done more research. My husband and son were told of this "treatment plan" and paid hundreds of dollars for total BS. A year later I'm now receiving another bill for my son for periodontal care which was not deemed necessary. He's 22 years old with no issues! Every time I call the office the line rings then busy. I had visited this office when they had first opened in the area!I had gone in for a check-up and cleaning and was told that they do not clean teeth and that "most dentists aren't doing routine cleaning anymore" and they also tried to upsell me on the ridiculous root cleaning and another procedure. I wasted my time at this office and ended up never going back and instead went to another office that cleaned my teeth. I can't believe the bad reviews this office has gotten! Dr. Lee was GREAT!! We found out that there was a problem with my insurance and Dr. Lee worked with me and gave me a huge discount for a root canal!! After he got in there he realized he didn't think I needed a root canal after all... he medicated the root, covered it, then filled it. So then the price went WAY down! I feel he was very honest. He could have went ahead with the root canal and I would have paid LOTS more!! As far as pain... he gave me a shot and I never felt it!! EVER!! I was totally shocked! This place is a fraud and should lose its business license and the dentists should not be allowed to practice. Do not go here, they will cause a lifetime of issues. It had been less than 6 months since I had seen my dentist of 15+ years and had one tooth that needed to be watched for deeper cleaning. I have since been to another dentist and without telling him anything at all, he diagnosed the same one tooth that needs to be watched. Not the story told by Hickory Flat Dental. They determined I had periodontal disease in all 4 quadrants and needed oral surgery. The finance woman made it clear the charges would be much less every 3 months once insurance ran out. Charges were $1781, reduced to $857.60 with insurance negotiation and "only" $290 out of pocket. That did not include the oral surgery that was needed. They just happen to have an oral surgeon come in every Wednesday,just FYI. The dentist forced the device so far down to get the "readings" he wanted that it was not only painful at the time, it was super sensitive to everything for at least a couple weeks after the visit. He was trying to cause issues by damaging my gum! He seemed so concerned that I had such horrible periodontal disease, he really pored it on and refused to clean my teeth at all until i agreed to the deep cleanings of all 4 quadrants. He said he would be liable and that it was not professional knowing that was not what was needed, etc. Same stories others have on this site, i just wish i read them first. My husband went here as well and had the older dentist, no issues at all and none of the nonsense above. Too bad that dentist is working with the others. read more

Hickory flat dental was recommended by my insurance company so I said I would give it a try for my 15 year old son had a very traumatic experience with his last dentist in Florida needless to say they are shut down thank god! Extremely surprised by the reviews on Yelp I have been going to Hickory Flat Dental for the majority of my life. In 12 years of service, I have only ever had one scheduling issue. Dr. Lee is very friendly and has always done his best for me and my family. He also tries to make sure my dental service is well priced. My routine cleanings go well, they encourage me to make changes in my dental routine as they see fit and I always feel comfortable here. I just came back from my new dentist. I went to Hickory Flat Dental and had x-rays done for a crown I lost about a year ago. The dentist said the crown did not have a root canal done on it and it would cause pain soon if I didn't fix it. The new dentist I went to today did x-rays and told me that there was indeed a root canal done on that tooth. So, the "dentist" at Hickory Flat actually lied about it. I had to pay 100% of my 2 crowns and I DO have BCBS insurance. Hickory Flat Dental performed my 2 crowns and they advised that BCBS would pay most of it. After the procedure, My insurance said they can not pay a dime for the crowns because hickory flat dental does not have a X-Ray that takes "PA" views and that they have done this to others. The PA X-Ray must be used prior to the procedure for BCBS to pay out. Long story shot, Hickory Flat Dental made 0 effort in reducing the amount owed even though they knowingly misled me in order to make their money. It's the first time I have ever had insurance not pay for any procedure,, ever and we had to take out a loan to cover it before it went to collections. Dr.Lee is amazing. I had to get 3 teeth removed and each tooth took seconds!!! The longest part was waiting for the nova caine to work. Furthermore, I had 5 fillings done by Dr.Lee. Had my regular 6-month cleaning on 6/16/2020. Sat in the chair and right off the bat the young girl began informing me of the treatment plan for the visit and told me that all I would owe that day is $10 that day for PPE and wanted me to sign a document. PPE? Whose PPE - mine or yours? She said theirs. I asked more questions. I said no to paying for their PPE. She left and returned at least two more times with instructions from "the office" telling me I had to pay it because we are in a pandemic. I refused and with each time she left and came back I expressed my logic and reasons for not paying for their PPE. I was calm and professional. I see numerous health care providers for some serious medical issues, and not one of them has blatantly told me I had to pay for their PPE. No one pays for MY PPE. It is a cost of doing business. At least 30 minutes was wasted in this back-and-forth before the hygienist finally came in and performed my cleaning. She was very quiet. Did NOT provide eye protection for me as in my last cleaning to prevent spray from the polishing getting into my eyes. What she was wearing looked like the regular PPE from previous visits. Then she was done. Dr. Lee came in afterwards as usual for the exam. He looked into my mouth and asked the hygienist if I was good. She said yes, and as he got up and walked away, said "you're all good SMARTY PANTS". Smarty pants. A softer way of saying smart a**. Not a compliment. I was shocked. How disrespectful and unprofessional. All because I questioned being required to pay for their PPE and refusing. Now, if I had received an email or letter PRIOR to my visit explaining that it was now necessary to begin charging for PPE, or if at the time of arrival they requested a donation or contribution, I would gladly have participated - and possibly in amount greater than $10. But to be told and demanded to sign and pay, then receive a less-than-quality cleaning, and virtually NO exam by the dentist and be called a name by that dentist - NOT ON YOUR LIFE. Dr. Lee spent all of one minute on my exam. I contacted my dental insurance company and filed a complaint. Since my 6/16 visit, I received a blanket email to all their patients from Hickory Flat Dental regarding their need to charge $10 for PPE going forward. And yesterday I received a statement from Hickory Flat Dental showing where on 7/24/2020 - 6 weeks after my cleaning - they filed a claim for the PPE in the amount of $8, which is all my insurance company would allow to be claimed. By the way, the ADA recommends that dental providers build the cost of PPE into their fees. My insurance company paid the $8. It appears that Dr. Lee and Hickory Flat Dental and Imagix Dental need that $8 more than I do. So, good luck with that... As that visit proved, Hickory Flat Dental is all about the money as I have read in numerous reviews about up-selling for unnecessary procedures, which I also experienced in the cleaning appointment prior to the 6/16/2020 appointment. Update 11/15/18: I did have a regional manager call me. He was concerned with my review and genuinely listened to my concerns. He went back to investigate the issue and followed up with me. I did appreciate the fact they are actually reading these reviews and reacting to them. For this I will change my review from 1 star to 3. You can't make this up. I took my daughter for an ortho appointment on 11/6/18. When I got there Kris (a female receptionist) told me that I owe them $212 (they billed my insurance improperly) from a 2013 procedure and could not see the orthodontist until it was paid. I honestly felt a bait and switch. This was the first I had heard of this since Abby's procedure in 2013. Worst part is that it was their own mistake. The procedure was $848. My insurance covers half. In 2013, I paid half of $848 (ie $424). Kris was supposed to submit to insurance the full balance but only submitted the half which left me stuck with an additional $212. Luckily, my insurance was very helpful as they confirmed the mistake. They went out of their way and contacted Hickory Flat Dental to explain the mistake they made and how they can resubmit the bill. I feel that Hickory Flat Dental knew of their mistake because I barely know the process of billing and I was able to immediately see the mistake within Hickory Flat Dentals paperwork. When I spoke to Kris over the phone to confirm everything, she did not even once apologize for the mistake and time I wasted to clean up their mess. In addition, they noted that they sent this $212 to collections. When I asked for a letter to stating that I was not past due and my account did not go to collections, you can see the attached screenshot of the email they sent me in google reviews (like I said you can't make this stuff up).
