We stopped by to grab lunch with our infant twins in tow while driving coast to coast. Can't say enough about the great food (Texas Ranger Burger & Cowboy Meal -country fried steak), service, and fellow customers. Everyone was very nice & extremely tolerant of us & our babies. Unassuming little diner off of I-40, the Hickory Inn Cafe serves up delicious sandwiches and burgers with a side of excellent hospitality. Our group had the club sandwich and grilled ham-and-cheese, both on the most delicious sourdough-wheat bread. Come to find out, it was homemade by one of the young ladies who also waited on tables. It was clean and had its "regulars" sitting at their table drinking coffee and socializing. This really gave it a home town feel. The service was good and the food was excellent. We found this place here on yelp after not seeing anywhere easy to stop on our way or of Amarillo where we had stopped for the night. When we pulled up we were the only ones there but the place quickly filed up with locals. A family runs the restaurant which Gave it a friendly feel. The foods was wonderful. Everything was fresh and with a nice presentation. The restaurant is clean and kept up nicely. They are usually open 6-2, We were there for lunch but they also open for dinner at 5:30 on Thursday and Friday. The menu had a nice selection. Should be something here for everyone. On a road trip you don't really want to stop at the same old chains, this is definitely a perfect stop. There is no sign from the interstate, just take the Vega exit and it is right on old rt 66. read more

Stopped here in the booming metropolis of Vega, TX. With only a few options here, we decided on Hickory Inn for breakfast. The food was really good. The kids (son, niece and nephew) said that it was "amazing." I ordered the Cowboy breakfast and it was more than enough. The kids ordered biscuits and gravy, breakfast burrito and pancakes. The service was excellent and I would recommend this place to anyone in the Amarillo area. And they have WiFi! read more

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise while we were looking for a place heading east on I 40 that was different than Midway Café. This is a family owned restaurant and the service was great. The food was excellent. We shared the Texas Ranger Burger, And was pleasantly surprised with fresh fried jalapeños and other fresh ingredients. We also had a house salad that was full of fresh vegetables. Prices were very reasonable for a diner. The dining area was very neat. We saw lots of local customers and could tell this was a local favorite. We were told the dining area had just been remodeled within the last couple years. This will be a much anticipated stop as we travel I-40 or route 66 in the future. read more

I stopped here on my way to Albuquerque. This place is very good. The food is really flavorful and fresh. It's very clean and the people are nice. I got the chicken fried steak and green beans and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes are real and the CFS was perfect and not oily or fried to death.
