This place is a hidden gem (tips for locating the entrance down below)! Great spot for a lunch, especially if you are just driving through town. The inside is nice, clean and has a cute 70s vibe to it. The service was quick even though we walked in 40 minutes before they close (which I try to avoid) and they were nice and told us not to rush! We got the pimento sandwich and Philly, both sandwiches were good, fresh and came with some good house chips. I will note that it's a little hard to find, but if you enter the main doors on Taylor st, there is set of stairs that takes you down to their entrance. Super worth it! read more

Can't say enough good things about the food & service at this cafe! They are located in the basement of a bank so they have no visibility on the street. They are open until 2 so go early for a good salad bar selection! I arrived at 1:15 and snagged the last of the honey roasted beets. Their home made potato chips are to die for as was their turkey reuben. Although I skipped desert, I was told by the baker (she called herself the sugar pusher ) that they have an amazing selection to choose from. Excellent service! Anyone who's been to Amarillo knows it is not known as a vegetarian/vegan friendly town. I was looking hard on Yelp to find any place with the word "vegetarian" in the description. Then I found Pan-Handlers Cafe. Bookmark! Since it's in the basement of a bank building, you'd never know it was there unless someone told you or you researched like I did. I got down to the basement and was so pleasantly surprised at what I found. There were two (I think) vegetarian sandwiches on the menu and I thought about one of them. But the salad bar was calling my name. So I just got the unlimited salad bar for $9. I started looking around and reading the labels and saw words like "organic" and "kale." Kale in Amarillo?! Who would have thought?! Not me. I loaded up my first plate with kale, organic greens, tomatoes, and that wonderful "Green Goddess" house dressing. My second plate was full of hummus, pita, more tomatoes, and cucumber salad. So much high quality, healthy food. This really is the best kept secret in Amarillo. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

I placed a large lunch order for work here and wanted something different. So we got a few trays of different casseroles, lasagnas and kale salad. Also got dessert shots....very well packaged for our pick up and wonderful variety of food that wasn't your average bbq or chicken fried steak options. The price is right for catering as well and everyone loved the variety and flavor of everything. It is somewhat hard to find this place -- but once you do, you'll be a regular guest in no time. The restaurant is located in the basement of a bank building in downtown Amarillo. They have daily soup specials, along with an excellent (and fresh) salad bar. I opted for the Reuben sandwich and it was excellent. The fresh sweet potato chips on the side were just as good. Pushy waitress doesn't let you look at the menu in peace. Where's the fire??!! Can't share your salad with your significant other. Waitress didn't share that information with us before we ordered. Hands down the best lunch choice downtown. Great salad bar with a variety of healthy menu options. They support local farmers and ranchers by using fresh and local ingredients whenever they can and it really makes a difference. Friday's special is usually fish and chips....and they're awesome. Enjoyed the food. My husband got the fried cod and hush puppies, and I ate from the salad bar and had the Professor, a veggie sandwich. The food was delicious! A nice surprise found in the basement of the Amarillo National Bank building. A chic cafe with sandwiches and a salad bar. I had the prickly pear lemonade, which was a festive pink, but nothing too special, and The Professor sandwich -- hummus, guacamole, alfalfa sprouts, spinach. I love their fries!
