Traveling through we stopped at Lucy's Kitchen for lunch. Fantastic food! Excellent service! We will definitely stop again whenever we're in the area.

If you see this sign from the street in Vega, STOP HERE FOR SOME GREAT FOOD AND WARM HOSPITALITY at Lucy's Kitchen!

Lucy's Kitchen was a completely pleasant surprise due to great food and the fantastic customer service! We stopped at Lucy's Kitchen about 6 weeks ago for breakfast after R found it in Yelp during our long road trip. Lucy's is in the tiny town of Vega. There is a small parking lot on the side of the restaurant for Lucy's customers only, and there is street parking at the curb in front of the restaurant. We parked in the side lot and walked in through the front door. Lucy greeted us with an enthusiastic and welcoming "Good Morning!" as soon as we entered her restaurant. She was preparing orders that were called in for take out, and told us that she'd be right back to the counter to take our orders, and pointed to the menu on the counter. When Lucy came back, she asked us, "What would you like to order, honey?" I ordered the breakfast plate named Lucy's Favorite, which is two eggs (I got scrambled), refried beans, potatoes (hash browns), and my choice of ham, bacon or sausage (I got the sausage patties). R also ordered Lucy's Favorite, ordering two over easy eggs, refried beans, hash browns and bacon. Lucy told us to have a seat and she'd bring the food to us when our meals were cooked. Within 15 minutes, Lucy brought our meals and plasticware. Within a couple of minutes, Lucy came back to our table and asked how the food was. It was all delicious and flavorful! Lucy chatted with us, and found out where were were from and where we were going. She asked us if we wanted some salsa, asking if we liked hot homemade salsa. R pointed at me and said, "He loves hot salsa." After Lucy brought the salsa, I tried it on my eggs, and R later tried it. Man, that was some nice hot and great tasting salsa! R told her that this salsa would taste really great with tortillas. Lucy agreed, and asked if we wanted some. YES!!!! So she asked us what kind, and I love corn tortillas and R prefers flour, so we had both, which Lucy brought to us. Lucy then asked us if we'd like to take some salsa, and that we could put it in a cooler. I told Lucy that I'd love to accept her offer of salsa, but we didn't have a cooler or any other way to keep the salsa cold. All this time, Lucy was not only talking to us, but she also was walking back to the counter so that she could take orders from people coming into the restaurant and getting the food to go. We enjoyed her hospitality, her food and her nice looking restaurant. Before we left, while R was in the restroom, Lucy and I got into a discussion, and she's such a proud woman about her restaurant. Lucy told me a little about her life and how, even though her grown children told her to retire and take it easy, she wanted to build out the "original window," where she served up her food, into a full restaurant and run it. So that's exactly what she did! Great inspirational story that I seriously needed to hear ... another message from God! Thank you so much, Lucy!

This place is a treasure in Texas. My food was delicious, and my service was excellent! The owner is a total sweetheart. You know it's good when it was full of locals!

    Cutest decor!

We found Lucy's on Yelp and decided to give it a try! Lucy did not disappoint! She greeted us when we walked in. She Made our breakfast herself from scratch. It was fast and delicious and her salsa was bomb! I had the Chorizo A La Mexicana burrito and my husband had the breakfast sandwich! We were passing through with a trailer. Easy on and off the 40 and a place to park! Thank you Lucy! We will be back on the way home!

My cousin, my partner and I stopped by this morning to grab breakfast before hitting the road for ten hours. This place is cozy and very clean! Coffee is good and the service was excellent. I hope anyone driving through this small town gets the chance to grab a breakfast burrito here.

We were brought individual flights of salsa to go with the chips. My michelada hit the spot. Was it the best? No. But it scratched the itch. I couldn't decide on what to eat. Until I saw green chili stew and asado. I moved away from Midland in 2015. You don't really find asado away from West Texas. The music wasn't too loud and the lighting wasn't too bright or too dim. Overall, we enjoyed our meals. I'll likely stop back in the next time I'm in town.

The staff was friendly but did not provide the best service throughout our meal. We shared the combo beef and chicken fajitas for one. The chicken was cooked perfectly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The beef was a little overdone, but the fresh, homemade corn and flour tortillas were absolutely fantastic and made the meal even better. We also ordered the Tacos de Birria (goat) with consommé, and they were delicious! The meat was incredibly flavorful, and they came with a small cup of sauce that added even more flavor just be prepared because it packs some serious heat! The chips and queso were just okay, but overall we really enjoyed it being a convenient stop on our road trip home. Not sure if we will stop again when in town.

My girlfriend's mom was especially excited to take me to El Tejaven while I was visiting. This dinner was a celebration of my girlfriend's sister playing in the top All-Region orchestra. It has nothing to do with the food itself, but I want to mention it because she did a great job performing and I think it deserves to be remembered here. It is the reason we went in the first place. It was a busy night at El Tejaven before we arrived. A group of 32 was just wrapping up dinner. Thirty two people. At that point, just cater, dawg. It took about 20 minutes after arrival to get seated, but it likely would have been much quicker if it were not for a group that size. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicier than I was prepared for, but it was good. The chips were excellent as well. Most people at the table ordered margaritas on the rocks, while I got a dressed Dos Equis on draft. From what I tasted, the margaritas were solid. For appetizers, we ordered the small queso and the small ceviche. The queso was standard but good. The ceviche, on the other hand, was exceptional. I could have eaten a large bowl by myself. I was pretty hungry, so I ordered the Orden de Tacos, which comes with four tacos on corn tortillas. I got all of them with al pastor. I also added a side of rice and beans, which normally comes with the three taco order but can be added on for the four tacos. The tacos were very good and exactly what you want from street style al pastor, especially with the cilantro and onions. It comes out to roughly four dollars per taco if you do the math. The rice and beans were both great and I ate all of it easily. The plate also came with a side of guacamole that had a nice kick, which I enjoyed. Living in Austin with family in San Antonio, it is easy to find good and authentic Mexican food. That does not always seem to be the case in Amarillo, so it is nice to know there is at least one spot in the city that feels authentic and not overly gringoified. My girlfriend's family knows ball.
