Overcooked Mac and cheese, salad with 4 tomatoes and burnt ribs.

I was looking for a good spot for dinner today and the Hickory Pit commercial came on so I decided to go there. It was the wrong decision. The Mac and cheese was scraped from around the pot, I got a pile of lettuce with 4 chopped tomatoes for the salad and a half of slab of ribs that only 3 were edible because 2 on the end were burned. What a waste of $22.00

Grew up eating here, just moved back after 10 years and this burger is a POS. It is 100% frozen patty. They used to smoke them along with the meats, but now they have the audacity to say it's $8.50 for literally a Bubba Burger patty. What once was a staple in Jackson has fallen severely

I was sent to Hickory Pit for the Ham and Cheese sammich while I was looking for the best non-burger sammiches in Jackson. This is not anything I would normally order at a BBQ place. I like the pulled pork, but my lead came from a good friend so I bit the bullet and grabbed the Ham and Cheese...described as the "Hickory Pit's Signature Sandwich" The bread is HP's awesome buttered thick white bread that comes with BBQ plates and a monster flat-top grilled piece of ham and with American cheese dripping out. Yep. It's good. Damn good. Makes me look at Hickory Pit in a different light. I am not a huge fan of MS BBQ so this gives me a reason to go in there again. I recommend it. Highly.

Great BBQ, but the BEST hamburger in the city! Order takeout, dine in accommodations are not great.

Always some of the best BBQ in the Metro. Seems like their portions are larger than others and prices are still great.

The food is awesome really!! The beef & pork is very tender & has lots of flavor. Ms. Ginger is one of the kindest people you'll ever meet.

The ribs were cold, which took away any chance of enjoying them the way they should be: tender and piping hot with that kiss of smoke. Without that, it was just tough meat on a bone. I will say the rub was flavorful, but it couldn't help the toughness. Also got a beef sausage with onions and while the snap of the casing was pronounced, the insides were cold and bland as well. Barbecue sauce is usually the soul of a place like this, something that tells you the story of the pitmaster and their craft. Here, there was no story, just packets of Kraft BBQ sauce. It felt impersonal, like the heart of the place was missing. The sides didn't step in to rescue things either. The potato salad and baked beans tasted like they came straight from a grocery store container, unseasoned and uninspired. When the main event falls flat, the sides should at least give you a reason to come back, but they didn't. I wanted this spot to be a hidden gem, the kind of place you recommend to friends when they ask for local flavor. Instead, it was the kind of meal you forget as soon as you walk out the door, and that's the real disappointment.

I wanted to go Tuesday but coworkers didn't want to go out. Tried to go Wednesday but they were closed for dinner. My flight was leaving later in the day on Thursday and I had to try to go. Online it said they were open at 10 am. I checked out of the hotel and headed to the restaurant. There were already a lot of people waiting for them to open. To my surprise they opened at 10:30. When the doors opened people were "fighting" to get inside. This is a buffet setting. You pay before eating. To go plates are available for purchase. There is an upstairs eating area. I think there were 3 hot stations, a cold station, and a desert station and an ice cream machine. All the food looked so good. I had to get a little taste of everything. The fried chicken and fried chicken livers were Hands down my favorite things. I like greens that are tangy with a little spicy - these were not that. The cornbread was hard couldn't eat it. Everything else was ok. Nothing that I had that "gotta go back for more" feeling (except the chicken). There were so many offerings, and they have Pepsi products. They have a drink station but The servers bring you drinks. I definitely would go back again if I'm in the area.
