Decided to give Little Willie's a try after reading various positive reviews. It is a small dine in or take out restaurant located in Pearl. I ordered a half slab of ribs, baked beans and fried okra. The ribs were well seasoned,tender but a little salty. The fried okra was delicious; however, the baked beans tasted like they came straight out of a can. We were not expecting much and were pleasantly surprised. My daughter wanted a sausage and cheese plate and they are one of the few places that offers one. The sausage was delicious. It was juicy and full of flavor. We loved the seasoning. My husband got the rib plate with baked beans and slaw. The meat was falling off the bone! The beans were hot and flavorful. My family is picky about coleslaw. But they loved this one! The service was fast and the employees are very nice. The place looks like a locally owned bbq joint and had just the right atmosphere! We had to laugh about going up and down stairs to get in. We lived in the area years ago and know it will flood at the first drop of rain. The retaining wall is a great touch. My son took me here as I am from out of town and wanted some good BBQ. The service was friendly and looks to be family run. The food we got was fabulous! I had brisket and pulled pork and my son had the pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork was the star on taste and great for not having lots of chunks of fat in int. The brisket was sliced and tender - very tasty as well. Mac and Cheese was good - red beans and rice was good. I saw someone else with onion rings that looked really good and same with the deviled eggs and another guy swore by the green beans - guess I will have to fly out and try those next time. The portions were huge compared to so many places that give you just a few slivers of brisket and prices were fair too! They were out of beer, which would have made the meal complete. I went to lunch today Aug. '23 to little willies having heard it was a good place for BBQ. There were a lot of customers in the restaurant, but it wasn't full so that wasn't an excuse. I ordered Pulled Pork, baked beans and potato salad. It too approximately 30 minutes to get my food. The service overall was ok, it wasn't bad service but nothing exceptional. The food..baked beans were hot. Potato salad was room temperature. The pulled pork was also slightly above room temperature. Taste.. Everything was mediocre at the very best. A slight squirt of bbq sauce on the pulled pork other than than it lacked any real flavor. Potato salad and baked beans were nothing to write home to mom about either. Quantity of food was a decent portion, and a styrofoam cup of sweet tea cost $15.97. Will I go back? I'm a solid NO! I ate at Little Willie's in Pearl this past Friday and it was delicious !!! The pulled pork plate, corn on the cob and cole slaw were all some of the best I've had. The employees were very helpful and it was an overall pleasant experience. I would make one suggestion: a wheelbarrow should be available to roll me out to my car. Where do I begin? I have tried all of the barbecue places in Rankin County and this was the best by far. The staff was so friendly and could not have been more accommodating. I like my barbecue sauce extremely hot so they mixed some sauce just for me that was perfect. The meat was cooked to perfection. Ribs were tender with a slight Smokey flavor but the grizzle was terrible. Both the pulled pork and brisket were dry and bland. The smoked sausage was good. The fried pickles were good. The sweet bbq sauce is pretty darn good. But the Carolina is an absolute no go. Myself, and a couple of buddies, stopped by here to eat lunch yesterday. Bad move! It was absolutely the worst BBQ ribs I've ever attempted to eat. Way over cooked! You pick the rib up and the bone would fall out and the meat would shred in your hands. The sad part is, is that they had to have known this when putting it in the containers, and served it anyway! This place is a true BBQ Pit Restaurant. Must be the best in the State. I recommend you try it! They have been doing BBQ now for some 30 years or better. The food is great and so are all the employees. Portions are huge and cooked perfectly. They are family owned with two locations. This one in Pearl and another in Brandon at the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Ok now to the food...... My favorites are the Steak & Sausage Shish Kebabs. They have very tender steak, sausage, bell peppers & onions and best of all they are smoked. Next would have to be their huge smoked bacon cheeseburger. This is the largest best tasting burger I have ever eaten. The meat is ground with their own rub mixed in with it and then smoked on hickory wood and then fully dressed. Folk's I'm telling you if you want to get full get this bacon cheeseburger. Next would have to be the Ribs. They use spare ribs that are huge and packed with meat. They must cook the a long time because the meat just falls off the bones. I always get with the rib plate their baked beans & potato salad. All of their sides are good and they are all homemade. Next would have to be the brisket. Brisket is a hard one to cook but they do it right. Melts in your mouth! They told me they smoke it for 13 hours to a achieve the proper tenderness and taste. Next are the smoked pork chops. Man these are unreal. They give you two hand cut chops with two homemade sides and a roll on a plate. Their rub really makes the pork chops a must try while you are there. They will also do you a pork chop sandwich which is awesome as well. They also carry unique sauces to sell along with their famous rub. You can also get the hard to find Hoover Sauce at both of their locations. Oh I forgot to mention their smoked sausage. Wow some of the leanest best tasting sausage you will ever find. They will do this as a plate, sandwich or Po-boy. They also cater any size party or event and will cook for you on site. I'm even talking a whole hog! Now for their homemade sides. I mean homemade nothing dipped out of a can. They offer baked beans, green beans, potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw, fried okra, French fries, baked potato, baked sweet potato (which by the way are smoked!) mac-n-cheese, red beans & rice and I'm sure I probably forgetting something. Folks to sum up this is some of the best barbecue I have ever eaten from some of the nicest people I have ever met in a nice clean well kept and run restaurant. Not the best BBQ joint I've ever been too. Personally, I thought the meat was a little dry and my pulled pork was served cold. Also, a little expensive for the amount you get. What should people do when visiting the south? Have Southern bbq, if course Atmosphere: A stand alone building with a private parking lot, easy access from the road. The dining room is large, may be able to seat 30 people. It has a comfortable and casual feel, tables and chairs around the room, a large TV at the front, and blue and white checked flooring. The room itself is quite bright. There is no hostess station, just walk in, walk through the dining room, straight to the back to the register. There is a menu on the wall to your left, and plenty of signage of specials and offerings all around the register. A drink station is set up to the right of the register. There is a small bench right by the wall menu, it's ideal for anyone who has a takeout order. Next to the bench is a door, which may lead to a patio (I'll investigate the next time I'm here). Food: The portions are huge. I had ordered a rib plate, including four ribs, two sides, a roll, and a large (30oz, maybe?) drink. The ribs were very tender, and not dry at all. I did not need much of the bbq sauce that was provided with my meal. One side, red beans and rice, was not my ideal. Both the beans and rice were a little hard, not a creamy dish. However, the red and green peppers, along with spices, made this side dish very tasty. The other side item I had ordered was the coleslaw. It was a standard coleslaw, but it was a good accompaniment with the ribs. We noticed something that was offered that we had never encountered before. We ordered three crawfish etouffée empanadas (or meat pies). Those were advertised to be produced in Nachitoches (Nah-Kih-Dish?). The empanadas were very flavourful, it really did taste like crawfish etouffée that is encased in a flaky crust. Excellent, unpretentious food. Service: The gentleman at the register was patient, and quickly let you know what the special of the day is. He was friendly, and courteous. Instead of just taking our order, he did warn us about a small wait time on the empanadas, in case we were in rush, thanks for letting us know! There was a woman who was running our orders from the kitchen. Although she looked flustered from being so busy, she smiled at each patron she was facing, and was very courteous as well. Ordered the gizzards for lunch from the Flowood store. They were terrible. Too big, not cooked thoroughly, couldn't chew them. What a waste of money!!! Ordered the chicken livers for supper with small order of onion rings. The total was over $14. Livers overcooked, and not very many of them. Onion rings were good, but not worth the $6.99 price. I was in the vicinity of their Pearl location last month due to conducting some shopping on Hwy 80. The number and size of the ribs in the Rib Plate is impressive. I was COMPLETELY stuffed after eating the entire order of ribs, 2 sides, and roll. Love the flavor of the ribs, and the BBQ sauce in the squirt bottle at the table was also quite tasty. Finally tried the Red Beans & Rice side on the last visit; it was a nice alternative to the traditional BBQ beans or potato salad. So, worthy selection of different Sides available. One rib was overly dry but I really enjoyed the meal. Already returned for a 2nd lunch in August. This place and Pig & Pint are my favorite two BBQ places in the Jackson area. read more
