I was in Atlanta for 3 days and I wanted to get a solid start on emptying my blind elderly uncle's very VERY full 2-bedroom, 2-story townhouse. Upon walking through the townhouse and opening all the packed closets, I realized that I was in way over my head. Hicks and Sons to the rescue. Frank quickly returned my call on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, I will never use them. I live in a gated community and their driver tailgated another car and damaged the gate arm. The driver acknowledged it, we have it on video and despite the owner promising on multiple occasions to be mailing a check or CashApp-ing the money, he still hasn't over a month later. We will now have to involve an attorney for a minuscule amount of money. If he can't keep his word on something like this, why would I do business with them. read more

The day they showed, they hit our mailbox and damaged it badly enough that it needs to be replaced. We've been in contact with them at least 7+ times over the last three months and they still have not made good on their promise to pay the the replacement of our mailbox. Do not use them!!! We should have read the reviews. They damaged property, Frank said he was going to fix it, then came with some guy after 3 weeks and left it in worse shape and never came back again. No return calls and texts. His " sons" (drivers) didn't even care, you could tell when I called Frank it wasn't his first rodeo, he automatically said "I have a guy". I scheduled these guys to come out and remove some junk from a house I'm about to sell. They were supposed to be out at 2pm, and would call 30 minutes out. 3:45 rolls around, no call, no show. I called them, and they told me that they would not be out there for another 45 minutes. I said "we're you guys going to call me and let me know?!", to which he said "I don't know. My thing is this. If you are going to be late, call and let me know. I took the afternoon off of work to be there for them, and it was a wasted day. I finally called to cancel. Their prices were cheaper than anybody else. I called them, and they said they'd be out in about an hour, and they were. Two friendly men hauled the stuff out my townhouse in no time flat. I paid them on the spot with my credit card. So easy! My only problem with them is that they tracked dirt all over my carpet. Upstairs and downstairs. I didn't notice until after they'd left. Everywhere they'd stepped was a black footprint. The workers should be told to thoroughly wipe their shoes before entering a nice home. I will definitely use Hicks and Sons again, however. But I'll make sure MYSELF that they have clean shoes before coming in. read more

I have no qualms with this company at all. Around two weeks before I used their services, I sent a request from their website for a free quote. Within minutes (on a Sunday morning), I received a call for the quote. I was doing price comparisons, so I didn't book an appointment for them to remove my 2-piece sectional. They quoted me $80 for removal. I contacted three other companies and Hicks and Sons was the lowest quote. When it was finally time to remove the furniture, I contacted three additional companies. Only two responded and their quotes were still higher than the original Hicks and Sons quote. I contacted them again, just to make sure that quote was the same. It was. I scheduled them for the next day at 11 am. Unfortunately, my sister changed her move date (I was getting rid of my furniture to get her furniture), so I had to reschedule the movers. I called early that morning to change the date and it was no problem. I don't think the office called the movers to tell them that I rescheduled, but I talked to them because they were running early and wanted to see if they could come by. I told them that I had to reschedule and everything was fine. Finally, when it was time for them to pick up my furniture, it went off without a hitch and my apartment building is difficult to maneuver through. The two movers arrived on time and they were in and out in mere minutes. I did not move a finger except to hold the door open. Also, they take credit cards. This is a huge plus for me as I don't usually keep cash around. They call the credit card number into the office. So, if that's an issue for you, I suggest that you have cash. Their rates were fair and the workers did a decent job, but the most recent experience left me wanting to find a new company. They scheduled for a 3pm pickup today and the guy was a no call no show. Scheduled an appointment for 11:00 am. I actually placed all of the items for removal aside from the couch outside of the house to make it easier on the crew. My appointment time came and went...called for an ETA was told they would be there in 20 min. 3 hours and 45 minutes later they showed up. Never updated me -the only way I knew when they were coming is because I had to call every hour to ask for an ETA (working from home so needed to have updated time of arrival due to work meetings etc. Had they been courteous and sent me updates about delays I could understand). Also, scheduled online and did not get the 20% discount they claim and verified the apt time by phone. When the crew did get here the driver acted EXTEMELY put out because I had called him 3x for an eta...well you were almost 4 hrs late without informing me. additionally in light of covid-19 I had asked about ppe. Initially the driver (apparently?)lied to me and said they dont wear masks and that I need to provide them if I was so concerned..when I called the office to verify, whom I assume is the owner of the business, told me they are all outfitted with masks at the start of each day in their glove boxes of the trucks. 15 min of work (most of which I moved at least to the front lawn in the first place)cost me 200$ for not even a truly full pick up truck worth of removal and no large items aside from the couch. And this was a couch I moved I to my house myself so not a big item I will say one member of the crew was friendly, helpful and delightful. Wish I got their names so I could differentiate. I really wanted to love this company. I was excited to read such excellent reviews but....after waiting 2 hours past our scheduled appointment time my husband called to inform me the company still had not showed. I called Hick's and was told they forgot to put us on the schedule but we're working to accommodate us. Fast forward another hour and they finally arrived. The drivers were extremely pleasant however we were told there would be an additional charge for paint. On the phone, I was told there would not be an additional charge. So, after waiting 3 hours past the scheduled appointment time with less items than I initially requested to be moved and asking for a discount that I was finally told ok to, I was still charged a higher fee. UPDATE: After posting the note below, I heard from Bryan (Operations Manager) within a few minutes and he listened as I explained the problem. I chose to work with Hicks and Sons because I prefer to work with local companies over the big national franchises whenever possible. I was pleased with how quickly the company addressed my complaint and made things right. Outside of the issue I had with the two specific guys that handled my job, I was satisfied with this company. The company answered my initial call promptly, provided an accurate estimate up front, offered an appointment time for the very next day and were even early for the appointment. The pickup was completed in less than 20 minutes -- the guys were very efficient. Had my interaction over one specific aspect of the service not been problematic enough to require a formal complaint, I would have given 5 stars. I would highly recommend this company. I set up a mattress removal with the SA Truck and they refused to take it due to a small stain on the mattress. I needed it to be removed that day so I called Hicks and Sons to get an estimate, thinking that they would be able to remove it within the next day or so. Everyone was telling me the same thing that the land fields were closed & the trucks were filled. Frank said the same but worked it out anyway. I contacted Hicks and Sons Junk Removal (HSJR), via telephone, to remove my old furniture, books, CDs, equipment, etc. I called the company, at approximately 11:30 AM, and around 3:00 PM a "two-man" crew arrived, at my residence, ready to work. Despite the rain, the crew was very efficient and effective in loading my "junk" unto their truck. The gentlemen were professional, polite, courteous, and responsive. And, they projected a "can do, must attitude" in response to a couple of my special requests. I sent an email to this business for a free quote to have some stuff removed from my basement. I was surprised to receive a call back within an hour from these folks. They wanted to get a better idea of what I needed to have hauled away and when I would need the service. Very friendly and helpful during the call and they gave me a quote that was below what I thought it would be. On the day of our appointment, they arrived early (after calling to make sure I would be home) and they (a team of 3 guys) quickly removed everything that I wanted to have hauled away. I picked something up and they quickly let me know that I didn't need to lift a finger except to point at what I wanted to have removed. A few of the boards that were being hauled away were actually too long for their truck. I thought they would tell me that they couldn't take them. Instead, one of the guys asked to borrow a handsaw and he quickly worked through the boards to make them fit in the truck. Talk about customer service!!! They even swept up my driveway after they finished loading some yard debris that went into their truck. When they were sure that they had removed everything that I wanted to remove from my home, we took care of the paperwork (paid with credit card) and they were off. The driver damaged my awning with his truck and I am having difficulty getting their insurance information although they promised several times to, "send it within the hour." We recently purchased some new furniture, and had a need to get rid of the old furniture (in addition to some very large items cluttering up our basement.) I called around and emailed for some quotes, and the price quoted was in-line with other removal services. They responded faster than everyone, and were extremely courteous on the phone. I like the fact that they mentioned their name several times when we were discussing prices on the phone - I'm guessing they get alot of people shopping around for this type of service and they really need to make sure they were memorable. When they arrived, the price was slightly higher than they quoted over the phone, but this was still reasonable considering the size and weight of the items in the basement (two of the TVs they got took were made in the year I graduated high school, weigh more than my son and have been sitting around for years taking up space.) They didn't call ahead to make sure we were home, but they arrived slightly before the time they said they would arrive the day before, so that was fine. They were very courteous and friendly (especially around my son, which I appreciate) and got the items loaded up in a very timely fashion. 4 less things to worry about! read more
